Members of the Muslim community were attacked in two separate incidents on allegations of cow smuggling and beef consumption in Haryana and Bihar respectively.
Haryana
Two Muslim youths – Saleem and Mujahid – had gone to Manpur village to buy cattle. Saleem and Mujahid sell cattle to zamindars for a living.

On seeing the mob, Mujahid said that he started his motorbike but was attacked. “My bike fell to the ground. I ran away to save my life,” Mujahid alleged. Saleem however could not escape. “They tried to aim my head but I raised my hand and got cut. I also got hit on my legs,” he alleged.
According to Saleem, he heard one of them shouting, “Take him to the room and electrocute him.”
“I remember one of my attackers is the nephew of the sarpanch,” Saleem said adding, “They took away my watch and Rs 50,000.”
Fortunately, a man, who was also a Hindu, went to save Saleem. He asked the attackers to stop and told Saleem to run. “He was also a Hindu. He told the attackers that he knows me and asked me to leave the place,” Saleem said.
Later Saleem lodged an FIR at the Mundkani police station.

However, Siasat.com spoke to Mundkani police who although agreed there was an FIR lodged by Saleem but denied any such incident took place.
“There was a small fight between Saleem and the accused – Manish. An FIR was registered and Manish was arrested yesterday,” the police said.
Manish is currently on bail, police added.
Saleem and Mujahid are residents of Roopraka village in Haryana. Saleem has six children, the oldest being nine years old.
Bihar
On February 20, police arrested a 58-year-old Muslim man – Ansarul Sheikh – on charges of allegedly carrying beef. A video has emerged on social media from Raxaul, Bihar, where a distraught Sheikh can be seen begging a mob that it is not cow’s meat, but buffalo’s.
A case was registered against Sheikh and he was produced before the court that sentenced him to jail. Sheikh is currently lodged in Motihari jail.
Siasat.com spoke to Raxaul police station when officials said that the investigation is still on. “We have sent the meat sample to the veterinary doctor who is yet to confirm if it is cow’s or buffalo’s meat,” police said.

BJP, Grand Alliance to demonstrate political strength in Bihar today

New Delhi: The Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP) and the Grand Alliance are all set to demonstrate their political strength in Bihar on Saturday.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah is arriving in Bihar today on a day-long visit.
During his visit, Shah will address a public meeting in Lauria under Valmiki Nagar Lok Sabha Constituency in Bihar to strengthen the party activities.
On the other hand, the Grand Alliance is preparing to answer Union Home Minister Amit Shah through a mega rally in Purnia where Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, Deputy Chief Minister Tejashwi Yadav, Congress State President Akhilesh Prasad Singh, and other leaders of Grand Alliance are likely to be present.
Shah will address a public rally in the Valmiki Nagar Lok Sabha seat. He will then chair the Core Committee meeting of Valmiki Nagar Lok Sabha seat. State BJP President Sanjay Jaiswal, Union Minister for State Home Affairs Nityanand Rai, senior BJP leaders of Valmiki Nagar Lok Sabha, local MP, MLAs, and district BJP president to be present in the meeting.
Home Minister Amit Shah will then go to Lauria Nandangarh, where Prince Siddhartha (Mahatma Buddha) shed his royal robes and went out searching for knowledge.
After that Union Home Minister will head towards the capital Patna to address a Kisan Mazdoor Samagam at Bapu Sabhagar in honour of Swami Sahjanand Saraswati, who was one of the top farmer leaders in the country.
While talking to ANI, Minister of State for Home Affairs Nityanand Rai who is at Lauria for Shah’s program said, “There is tremendous enthusiasm among people for today’s public meeting of Home Minister Amit Shah ji. A large number of people want to listen to the Home Minister. The welfare work that is being done in the entire country under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the people of Valmiki Nagar are enthusiastic about it and want to listen to Home Minister Amit Shah.”

On the Grand Alliance Rally in Purnia on the same day when Union Home Minister Amit Shah is visiting Bihar for Public Meeting, Rai said, “It is not right to compare BJP’s public meeting with Grand Alliance’s rally. The public meeting of the BJP will be held with the resolution of Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas, Sabka Vishwas, and Sabka Prayas. The rally of the Grand Alliance is a rally of appeasement. Grand Alliance is holding a rally in Purnia today to give the message of appeasement politics. There is no comparison between that rally and this BJP public meeting. BJP’s program is just a program for one Lok Sabha seat.”
“There is no answer to the name and work of PM Modi. The result of his work is visible in every house, and every village in the Country. The public meeting of Valmiki Nagar will be massive. The Home Minister will speak about development. He will talk about peace and security while the Grand Alliance rally is a rally of appeasement,” Rai added.
On being asked if the Grand Alliance is holding a rally in Bihar on the same day to give a political message to Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) MP Manoj Kumar Jha said, “You have to first find out whose rally was first decided. Our rally was already fixed. The Home Minister is going to participate in a small rally, ours is a mega rally. This is a big difference. Amit Shah ji is the Home Minister of the country, he is free to go anywhere, but he is coming to Bihar. He has to answer two questions and one is special. After the Prime Minister spoke about the special state status of Bihar we will expect the Home Minister to speak on this issue and Bihar should get its right.”
“My second question is that the Home Minister is the Home Minister of the country so he should make efforts so that his statement increases the social harmony of the country and not decrease it. I am sure that he will accept my request,” the RJD MP added.
Meanwhile, Rashtriya Lok Janta Dal chief spokesperson Madhaw Anand, while speaking to ANI about the Grand Alliance rally at Purnia, said, “The rally is to divert the attention of the people from the infighting going on between RJD and JDU. Through this rally, there will be neither progress of the public nor any welfare of the people. Just the fight going on inside RJD and JDU for CM’s chair will intensify in the coming days.”
“Through this rally, both RJD and JDU are trying to test their strength internally. It will be interesting to see how long Nitish Kumar can retain his chair and how long Tejashwi Yadav can distance himself from the magic chair,” Anand added.
Notably, this would be Amit Shah’s fourth trip to Bihar since the BJP and Janata Dal (U) ended their partnership and the JD(U) formed the Grand Alliance in the state last year in the month of August.

Centre to spend Rs 44,950 crore in Bihar under Bharatmala road project: BJP leader

Patna: Senior BJP leader Ravi Shankar Prasad on Wednesday said the Centre will spend Rs 44,950 crore in 2023-24 in Bihar under Bharatmala, a centrally funded project which aims to build a network of roads, highways and expressways across India.
Prasad, a former union minister, told a press conference that the Centre has also allocated huge funds for the development of roads and highways in Bihar, besides Bharatmala.
The Bharatmala project will connect over 550 districts headquarters of India through six-lane highways. In addition to the development of the highways and roads, a key objective of the project is to improve freight efficiency through highways.
“Besides, the National Highways Authority of India’s ambitious six-lane Greenfield Varanasi-Ranchi-Kolkata expressway will pass through Kaimur, Rohtash, Aurangabad and Gaya districts of Bihar. Of the 610-km-long Varanasi-Kolkata corridor, 162 km will be in Bihar,” Prasad said.
The central government has also decided to construct a Rs 1,000 crore 15-km-long elevated road from Anisabad to Gurudwara Mode on NH-30 in Patna, he said.
“Currently 13 bridges are being constructed in several districts in Bihar and the central government has allocated Rs 23,175 crore for these works. Besides, works for the development of the first multi-modal logistic park on 100 acres of land at Fatuha (in Patna) are already on. The Centre has also made provisions for Rs 1,000 crore for the project,” Prasad said.
The government has also sanctioned funds for several other sectors, including agriculture, tourism, fisheries, science and technology and rural development, the BJP leader said.
He described the Union Budget presented by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman as all-inclusive and far-sighted.

SC seeks Centre’s reply on PIL alleging ‘unnecessary’ hysterectomies in Bihar, Raj, Chhattisgarh

New Delhi: The Supreme Court sought the Centre’s response on Monday on a PIL alleging that doctors in Bihar, Rajasthan and Chhattisgarh have been performing “unnecessary hysterectomies”, a surgical procedure to remove the uterus, on poor women just to reap high insurance fees from governments under the Rashtriya Swasthya Bima Yojana (RSBY).
A bench headed by Chief Justice DY Chandrachud also sought the assistance of Additional Solicitor General Aishwarya Bhati to deal with the public interest litigation (PIL) matter filed by Narendra Gupta, himself a medical practitioner.
The bench, also comprising Justices PS Narasimha and JB Pardiwala, granted four weeks’ time to the Centre for filing its response to the PIL.
A hysterectomy is a surgical procedure to remove the uterus after which a woman can neither conceive nor can have menstrual periods regardless of her age.
The PIL, based on media reports and researched facts, alleged a “widespread pattern of doctors performing medically unnecessary hysterectomies to reap high insurance fees from the government” in states such as Bihar, Rajasthan and Chhattisgarh.
It sought compensation for the victim women and meaningful policy changes to deal with the problem.
The women, aided by heavily-subsidised state-funded health insurance schemes, usually go to private hospitals for medical care for symptoms such as “abdominal pain and general weakness” and doctors resort to “unnecessary hysterectomy operations after cursory, or in some cases, no medical examinations”, the petition alleged.
“The present petition has been filed in the nature of public interest litigation…and arises from an influx of news stories and Right to Information (RTI) results in the states of Bihar, Chhattisgarh and Rajasthan regarding unlawful hysterectomies and related insurance scams,” it said.

The petition sought directions to the state governments “to implement monitoring, inspection and accountability mechanisms for the private healthcare industry”, which are empanelled to serve the poor covered under the government’s Rashtriya Swasthya Bima Yojana (RSBY).
The RSBY has been launched by the Union Ministry of Labour and Employment to provide a health insurance coverage to Below Poverty Line (BPL) families.
The objective of the scheme is to provide protection to BPL households from financial liabilities arising out of health shocks that involve hospitalisation.

Bihar jail inmate swallows mobile phone during checking

Gopalganj: An inmate of Bihar’s Gopalganj district jail reportedly swallowed a mobile phone during checking out of fear being caught by prison officers, an official said on Monday.
Qaishar Ali, the prisoner, swallowed the phone on Saturday during inspection.
The matter, however, came to light on Sunday after Ali developed extreme pain in his stomach.
“The prisoner informed the jail authorities and narrated the sequence of events. He was immediately rushed to Gopalganj district hospital where the x-ray of the inmate revealed the presence of a foreign particle in his abdomen,” Manoj Kumar, Gopalganj jail superintendent told PTI on Monday.
Salam Siddiqui, the doctor at the hospital’s emergency ward said, “The prisoner was admitted in the hospital due to stomach pain. The x-ray of his stomach was taken and the presence of foreign particles was visible during the examination. There is a need to investigate it thoroughly”.
A medical board was constituted by the hospital and the man was referred the prisoner to Patna Medical College and Hospital for further treatment.
Ali was arrested by Gopalganj police on January 17, 2020 under provisions of Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act (NDPS Act). He has been in jail for the last three years.
Use of mobile phone by inmates inside Bihar prisons has raised eyebrows over security officers’ credentials. Around 35 cellphones, seven sim cards and 17 cellphone chargers were seized during raids conducted in jails across the state in March 2021.
The raids were conducted on Katihar, Buxar, Gopalganj, Nalanda, Hajipur, Ara, Jehanabad and some other jails in the state

Patna: Acclaimed author Arundhati Roy said on Friday that she has great expectations from Bihar in the run-up to the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, as the exercise of opposition unity is starting from the state which will prove successful.
Roy was in Patna to participate in the 11th national meeting of CPI(ML) held at the Sri Krishna Memorial hall.
“We have great expectations that Bihar will play a crucial role in opposition unity ahead of next year’s Lok Sabha polls. Recently, the BJP received a big jolt in Bihar. People of the country are looking at Bihar to remove the BJP from the Centre,” Roy said.
“At present, the country is run by only four people — Narendra Modi, Amit Shah, Mukesh Ambani and Gautam Adani. The country has 21 people whose wealth is more than the collective wealth of 30 crore people. Look at Adani, he is operating in almost all sectors,” Roy said.
“We need a sensible alliance to remove the BJP from the Centre. The Left parties have taken the initiative and have also invited the two alliance leaders, Nitish Kumar and Tejashwi Yadav. We are hopeful that they will participate in the CPI(ML) event on the second day,” Roy said.

ChatGPT Fails Bihar Board Exam

ChatGPT scored 99.97 and 98 %ile in IIM Ahmedabad and Harvard exams respectively.

However, ChatGPT failed the Bihar Board exam. With a high average IQ, the chatbot does lack cheating skill, one of the most desirable skill to clear the Bihar Board exams. ChatGPT ability to understand context is limited. Hence, the model fails to answer questions that need humanly aspect like cheating, paper leak etc

Founder of Open AI chatbot, ChatGPT Sam Altman told The Fauxy “ChaptGPT lakes the human touch and doesn’t have cheating skill since there’s no competitor of it. However, after the release of Google’s chatbot ‘Bard’ ChatGPT will have cheating skills”.

Politics starts over Saran violence, BJP says Jungle Raj is back in Bihar

Patna: After the violence in Mubarakpur village in Saran, the BJP targeted the Mahagathbandhan government of Nitish Kumar for the return of Jungle Raj.
BJP leader Neeraj Kumar Bablu went to Rubal hospital in Patna and met the injured persons.
“The way three persons were brutally assaulted in Chapra, it indicates that Jungle Raj has returned to Bihar and Chief Minister Nitish Kumar is responsible for it. People of one particular caste are showing aggression. The local police failed to arrest the accused. All these things are being done by the people protected by the ruling parties,” Bablu said.
“Lalu Prasad Yadav had given the slogan of “Bhura Baal Saaf Karo” to target the Bhumihar caste. Now, it looks like the RJD has started the implementation of the slogan of Lalu Ji in Bihar. We condemn the brutal incident and demand from CM Nitish Kumar to ensure justice for the family members of the victims,” Bablu said.
Neeraj Kumar, JD-U MLC and chief spokesperson said: “The incident that happened in Chapra was extremely brutal and painful. It has challenged law and order. Some of the accused have been arrested and the police are carrying out raids to nab the other accused. The way the victims were held hostage in one room and brutally assaulted by the husband of the village head (Mukhiya), it looks like they want to spread poison in the society.”
“We will strongly act against the accused whoever they are. The local police have registered three FIRs so far and the statements of the injured persons have been recorded,” said Sunil Khopre, ADG (Law and Order) of the Bihar police.
“We have arrested 6 persons so far. Some people are trying to disturb peace in the region. Hence, we have imposed a ban on Twitter, WhatsApp, Facebook and other social media till 11 p.m. on February 8. If anyone uploads provocative posts on social media, they will face action,” said Jitendra Singh Gangwar, ADG (Headquarter).
The incident happenned after three youths were held captive in a room on February 2 and assaulted by the men of Vijay Yadav, husband of the village head of Mubarakpur. One of the victims named Amitesh Kumar succumbed to his injuries on Monday.

Following his death, the relatives and a section of the villagers attacked the houses of Vijay Yadav and his supporters and set them on fire. They went on the rampage and set ablaze every vehicle including bikes, tractors, cars and others.
Following the violence and arson, the district police blocked off a four km radius area around Mubarakpur and deployed a large number of police personnel to bring the situation under control.

Bihar: Activist files complaint against Ramdev for controversial anti-Muslim remarks

Muzaffarpur: A Bihar-based rights activist on Saturday filed a complaint against yoga guru Ramdev for allegedly hurting the religious sentiments of Muslims with his remarks at a recent meeting of seers.
Tamanna Hashmi lodged the complaint against Ramdev before a local court here and demanded the registration of an FIR against him.
At a meeting of seers in Rajasthan’s Barmer on Friday, the yoga guru had accused Muslims of resorting to terror and abducting Hindu women, while comparing Hinduism to Islam and Christianity.
“Ramdev’s statement against Muslims and Islam is objectionable and it has hurt their sentiments,” Hashmi told reporters, after filing the complaint before the court of the Chief Judicial Magistrate in Muzaffarpur.
