The Kerala Story: Giriraj Singh urges Nitish Kumar to declare film tax-free in Bihar

Patna: Union Minister Giriraj Singh Tuesday urged Chief Minister Nitish Kumar to declare the film ‘The Kerala Story’ tax-free in Bihar.

The film, directed by Sudipto Sen, has been declared tax-free in BJP-ruled Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh among other states.

The union minister on Tuesday wrote to the Bihar CM urging to make the movie tax-free in the state.

“The recently released movie ‘The Kerala Story’ is very important and based on contemporary social issues. The movie has already been declared tax-free in several states including Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh etc. So I request you to give necessary instructions to the authorities concerned to make it tax-free in Bihar as well,” Singh said in his letter.

He also shared the letter on his Twitter handle.

The film ‘The Kerala Story’ has been at the center of a controversy since it was released last week. BJP leaders have supported the film and urged other states to follow suit. The West Bengal government announced a ban on the film on Monday to “maintain peace” and avoid any incident of hate crime and violence.

‘The Kerala Story’, which stars Adah Sharma, highlights the issue of alleged forced conversion and radicalisation of women in Kerala, which sparked controversy as soon as its trailer was released. Sen and producer, Vipul Amrutlal have said that the film is based on true events.

    [ad_1]

Patna: The Bihar government will highlight the rise of rural women entrepreneurs breaking all barriers and the success of the World Bank-backed village livelihood programme Jeevika’ among several other socio-economic programmes during G-20 events to be held here in June, an official said on Saturday.

The G20 meetings in Patna are expected to be held on themes such as women and future of work and upskilling of the women workforce in the tech-intensive work environment.

“During two-day G-20 programmes on June 22 and 23, the Bihar government will showcase women’s upliftment and development in the rural sector, besides the state’s rich cultural heritage.

    MS Education Academy

“How rural women are defying odds to become entrepreneurs in Bihar through different initiatives taken by the state government, how Jeevika’ has become a revolution and changed the lives of rural women and their families will be presented before G20 delegates,” Art and Culture department secretary Bandana Preyashi said.

She also said how women in Bihar are interested in joining the police, and their success stories in different fields, the state’s soft power and its varied history will also be showcased through cultural programmes and exhibitions during the G-20 events.

“At least five success stories of Bihar’s women, their struggle in a patriarchal society and how they have helped transform the lives of other women with the support of several initiatives by the state government, including Jeevika, will be highlighted through cultural events and displays during the visit of the G20 engagement groups,” Preyashi said.

Delegates will also be able to learn about Bihar’s “one-district-one-product” scheme to boost local entrepreneurs, she said.

The state government has also planned several cultural events to give delegates a glimpse of the amazing history of Bihar.

“We have listed some iconic monuments from the state so that delegates can learn about the history of Bihar through cultural events and exhibitions. They will also be able to know about Vaishali, an archaeological site located around 45 km away from the state capital, at the exhibitions”,” the official said.

The cultural events will elaborate the history and heritage of Bihar through musical gigs, display of archival photographs, live performances by traditional artists and also through displays of work by state artisans, she said.

Bihar Museum, Patna Sahib Gurudwara, and two world heritage sites in Gaya and Rajgir are on the list for sightseeing for G20 delegates.

Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on several occasions in the past praised the work being done by rural women associated with JEEVIKA, a part of his government’s rural livelihoods project, to improve the economic status of their families.

“The number of ‘Jeevika’ didis, the self-help group women, has increased to 1.30 crore in the state. They are doing splendid jobs, and this model (Bihar Rural Livelihoods Project) has ensured women’s empowerment in a big way. Their work is earning appreciation from different parts of the world,” the CM had told media persons in Katihar in February.

The two-day events in June are part of India’s G20 Presidency.

The G20 is an intergovernmental forum comprising 19 countries – Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Canada, China, France, Germany, India, Indonesia, Italy, Japan, the Republic of Korea, Mexico, Russia, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, Turkey, United Kingdom and the US and the European Union.

  • Bihar govt directs all DMs to implement Patna HC decision on caste-based survey

Bihar govt directs all DMs to implement Patna HC decision on caste-based survey

    [ad_1]

Patna: In wake of Patna High Court’s interim stay on the caste-based survey on Thursday, the Bihar government has asked District Magistrates of all 38 districts to stop the exercise with immediate effect.

The letter, issued by the office of Deputy Secretary, General Administration Department, Rajnish Kumar, directed the District Magistrates to follow the decision of the high court and direct officials and employees to take necessary steps and not release any data to anyone.

As per the order, the division bench of Chief Justice Vinod Chandran and Justice Madhuresh Kumar said: “We are of the considered opinion that the petitioners have made out a prima facie case against the continuation process of the proposed caste-based survey as attempted by the state of Bihar. There is a question raised on data integrity and security which has to be more elaborately addressed by the state.”

    MS Education Academy

“We also have the opinion that the state has no power to carry out caste-based surveys in a manner it is fashioned now. It would amount to a census thus impinging upon the legislative power of the Parliament,” the HC said.

“We also see the notification that the government intends to share data with the leaders of different political parties of the state assembly. The bigger question arises here is the right of privacy which the Supreme Court has held to be a facet of right to life.

“In such circumstances, we have directed the state government to immediately stop the caste-based survey and ensure that the data already collected are secured and not shared with anybody till final orders on this writ petition,” the bench said.

  • Committed to conduct caste-based survey in Bihar, says Tejashwi

Committed to conduct caste-based survey in Bihar, says Tejashwi

    [ad_1]

Patna: Bihar Deputy Chief Minister Tejashwi Yadav on Thursday said that he is committed to the caste-based census in Bihar and despite the Patna High Court’s interim stay, asserted that it will be conducted in future.

“Our fight for the caste-based survey will continue in the state. The people of Bihar are in favour of caste-based survey. It is in the interest of common people.

“The decision of caste based survey was taken unanimously by all political parties of the state. It is not for any particular caste. It is for all,” he said.

    MS Education Academy

“Bihar government was conducting a caste-based survey at its own expense as the Centre had declined to make a financial contribution to it. The BJP did not want the caste- based survey being conducted in the state. They are frightened that once the actual data would come out, they would know how many people are staying below the poverty line and how many of them are landless. Who is in good financial condition and who has not. It is in the interest of all caste and community people,” Tejashwi Yadav said.

“As the interim order has come, the state government will analyse it and take the decision accordingly,” he said.

“After the court order, the BJP is celebrating the decision and spreading lies that they are in favour of caste-based survey. If it was the case, then why have they not conducted in any BJP-ruled states or by the Centre,” he added.

  • Bihar law minister says ‘if you want UP style of governance, shut courts’

Bihar law minister says ‘if you want UP style of governance, shut courts’

    [ad_1]

Patna: While the BJP leaders are advocating a Yogi Adityanath style of governance in Bihar, state Law Minister Shamim Ahmed has said that first it needs to close all the courts and then think of governance like Uttar Pradesh has at present.

“When BJP is in power, Bihar is having Mangal Raj and when it goes out of power, Jungle Raj comes in Bihar. Go to Uttar Pradesh and experience the governance there. If you want Uttar Pradesh like governance in Bihar, first it needs to close all the courts,” Ahmed said while interacting with media persons in Motihari.

“If all the decisions have to be taken by the chief minister, what is the need for courts,” he said.

    MS Education Academy

“We have Nitish Kumar style of governance in Bihar. I admit that the crime graph has increased in Bihar but that is only due to population growth. Our DGP has taken an initiative to deploy two SHOs in one police station to check the crime graph in Bihar,” Ahmed said.

Shamim Ahmed went to Motihari to console the family members of the person who lost his life during indiscriminate firing on May 1. During the firing, four persons were also injured and are currently admitted in a hospital in Motihari.

The deceased was identified as Prince Kumar who came to Motihari to his sister’s house to attend a marriage on May 1. He was having a soft drink when three assailants opened fire on the Deva gang members who were also present at that tea stall. Prince was caught in the firing and died on the spot while Deva Kumar, Raja Kumar alias Virat, Meraj and Yash Prakash were injured in the attack.

Congress leader in Bihar lodges case against Amit Shah

    [ad_1]

Patna: Pratibha Singh, a Congress leader in Bihar’s Darbhanga district, has lodged a case against Union Home Minister Amit Shah saying that he was provoking communal tensions in the poll-bound Karnataka through his remarks.

The case refers to comments made by Shah at a rally in Belagavi, Karnataka, on April 25 during which he said that if the Congress came to power, riots would take place in the state.

“Through his speech, Amit Shah was trying to spread hatred and communal tension in Karnataka. He said that if Congress would come into power, riots would take place in the state. It is a provocative speech. Hence we have lodged a case (Number 490/23) under IPC sections of 153, 505(2) and 506 of IPC against him,” Singh said.

    MS Education Academy

“Amit Shah is deliberately making such statements in Karnataka to disturb communal harmony in the state,” the Congress leader added.

Singh’s move could be seen as a response to the BJP in the wake of the separate criminal defamation cases against senior Congress leader Rahul Gandhi in Surat and Patna district courts.

Bihar: Hindutva group supports Dhirendra Shastri

    [ad_1]

Patna: At a time when RJD is objecting to Dhirendra Shastri’s proposed visit to Patna, Akhil Bhartiya Hindu Mahasabha (ABHM) on Tuesday came out in support of the self-styled godman.

ABHM national president Swami Chakrapani slammed Bihar environment minister Tej Pratap Yadav for making statements against Dhirendra Shastri.

Tej Pratap Yadav is enjoying the backing of the state government and hence is giving statements against a Hindu saint. If he wants to stop anyone, he should team up with Owaisi who is responsible for spreading poison in society,” Chakrapani said.

    MS Education Academy

“When Lalu Prasad’s family was deprived of power in Bihar, Tej Pratap Yadav was hopping from one temple to another. He sometimes dons the look of Lord Shiva and at times that of Lord Krishna. Now, he is enjoying power in Bihar and hence boycotting the visit of a saint. The statement of Tej Pratap Yadav is extremely unfortunate,” Chakrapani said.

Dhirendra Shastri plans to visit Patna on May 13 and will stay till May 17 for a religious programme in Naubatpur locality.

A number of RJD leaders, including Tej Pratap Yadav, Jagadanand Singh, Vrisan Patel and others, objected to his visit.

They alleged that Shastri is visiting the state to create differences in society and is advocating for making India a Hindu nation.

‘Am still alive’: Bihar man ‘killed’ 6 months ago tells CM, DGP

    [ad_1]

Patna: A Bihar man, declared dead in a police record nearly six months ago, wrote to Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, the DGP, SP, Gopalganj and SHO, Deoria police station, claiming that he is alive and living with his newly-wedded wife in Uttar Pradesh’s Ghaziabad district.

Sonu Kumar Srivastava, 30, son of Manibhuson Srivastava, disappeared 5 months and 25 days ago from Deoria village. His family members claimed that he went to Patna to buy some goods but never returned home. After two days, a dead body with its throat slit was found in a area coming under the Deoria police station.

His father and other family members identified his body and had lodged an FIR of kidnapping cum murder.

    MS Education Academy

As per the letter written by Srivastava to police, he was carrying Rs 50,000 to buy some goods from Patna and took a bus. After reaching Deoria Chowk, he de-boarded from the bus after receiving a call from someone.

“After de-boarding from the bus, he walked for a few metres and then disappeared. We have received a missing complaint from his father and initiated a search operation on the basis of the last phone call location. We had searched the entire area but did not find anything. After a couple of days, a dead body with a slit throat appeared on social media and the family members of Srivastava recognised him as their son. Accordingly, they have registered an FIR under relevant IPC section of kidnapping and murder in our police station,” said Uday Kumar Singh, SHO of Deoria police station.

The youth’s “letter” said that he eloped with a girl named Neelam Kumari of his adjoining village and went to Ghaziabad and are staying there happily. He has also sent the proof of marriage. He further said that the FIR of kidnapping cum murder registered in the police station is wrong.

“Following his confession, we have conveyed the message to his family members. Further investigation is on,” Singh said.

Giriraj Singh dares Bihar govt to stop Dhirendra Shastri’s Patna visit

    [ad_1]

Patna: Politics over the visit of self-styled godman Dhirendra Shastri continues in Bihar with Union minister Giriraj Singh on Monday challenging the leaders of the Mahagathbandhan to stop him from coming to Patna.

Shastri, the chief of Bageshwar Dham, a pilgrimage site in Madhya Pradesh’s Chhatarpur district, is scheduled to be in Patna from May 13-17 for a religious programme in the Naubatpur locality.

“The organisers of the event had applied for space in Gandhi Maidan, which the district administration refused. The state government led by Nitish Kumar gave space to the Muslim community for prayers during EID, but it has denied space to a Hindu saint in Gandhi Maidan,” Singh said.

    MS Education Academy

“The Bihar government may have denied Shastri space in Gandhi Maidan, but no one can dare to stop from him landing in Patna for a religious programme,” Singh said.

Earlier, RJD leaders Tej Pratap Yadav, Jagadanand Singh, Vrisan Patel and Surendra Ram had objected to Shastri’s visit to Patna.
