Narco-Terror Second Biggest Challenge After Militancy: DGP Dilbagh Singh

    [ad_1]

SRINAGAR: Jammu and Kashmir Director General of Police (DGP) Dilbagh Singh Thursday said that police have launched a major war against the narco-terror in JK as more and more youth are falling prey to the drug menace.

“Police have busted several drug modules and recovered not just drugs but weapons as well,” Singh told reporters on the sidelines of a function at Kathua. He said police is taking help and probing the narco-terror cases jointly with State Investigative Agency (SIA), National Investigating Agency (NIA), and also National Crime Bureau (NCB).

“Drug abuse especially the narco-terror is the second biggest challenge after militancy,” he said, adding that strict action is being taken against those found involved in the drug abuse. “It has been seen that more and more youth are falling prey to the drugs. “We are committed to root out this menace once for all and a collective approach has been launched by the police in this regard,” the DGP said.

About query on infiltration, the DGP said that infiltration is on decline even though attempts were made from Rajouri, Baramulla and Kupwara areas. “Last year, 56 foreign militants were killed. Some foreign militants are still active who are being tracked down. Some foreign militants were involved the dastardly act in Dhangri area of Rajouri,” he said. “Pakistan’s internal situation is very bad at this juncture and the country should focus on their situation rather than pushing in terrorists into this side.”

Maintaining  that in the society, law is for one and all DGP said “Some journalists were found involved in terror related activities and law has taken its own course. Law is same for all,” the DGP said, adding that “nobody will be spared”. (KNO)

Silicon Valley Bank collapses, in biggest failure since financial crisis

Silicon Valley Bank collapsed on Friday after a run on deposits drove the Northern California institution into insolvency, marking the largest bank failure since the financial crisis.

The Federal Deposit Insurance Corp. has transferred the bank’s deposits to a new entity in order to protect consumers. Policymakers including Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen had grown increasingly alarmed over the past 24 hours at the prospect of the bank’s failure.

That’s because nearly half of all Silicon Valley-backed startups and biotechs bank with the institution, which had roughly $175 billion of deposits as of the end of 2022. With $209 billion in assets, SVB’s failure is the biggest since Washington Mutual went under at the height of the 2008 crisis.

  • Islam, not Christianity biggest in the world

Islam, not Christianity biggest in the world

    [ad_1]

    By Dr. Javed Jamil

If you ask anybody or google which are the largest religions in the world, the answer will be Christianity followed by Islam. But the truth is that the population of Muslims believing in the fundamentals of Islam is much larger than the population of Christians believing in the basic tenets of Christianity.

Pew Centre shows 2.2 billion Christians (32% of the world’s population), 1.6 billion Muslims (23%), 1 billion Hindus (15%), nearly 500 million Buddhists (7%) and 14 million Jews (0.2%) around the world as of 2010. Obviously, these are little older figures. Wikipedia gives the following percentage of the main religions:

    ReligionAdherentsPercentage
    Christianity2.382 billion31.11
    Islam1.907 billion24.9
    Secular/Nonreligious/Agnostic/Atheist1.193 billion15.58
    Hinduism1.161 billion1

But while the number of Muslims who are firmly committed to the fundamentals of their religion (One God, Muhammad the Last Prophet, Quran the Book of God, Hereafter) has been continuously growing, the number of Christians believing in the basic tenets of Christianity (Jesus as God or Son of God, Gospel the Divine book) continues to go down with every passing day. Interestingly, while Muslims firmly believe that Jesus was born as a divine miracle from a virgin mother Mary, a large number of Christians will be found rejecting or doubting this.

According to an article, titled “ A Majority Of Americans Think Jesus Is A Great Teacher Yet” (PRNewswire), “A new survey reveals that 52 percent of American adults believe that Jesus was a great teacher and nothing more.” This is despite the fact that the Christianity in America is stronger than in Europe and Australian continents.

An article, titled ‘Christianity as default is gone’: the rise of a non-Christian Europe” by Harriet Sherwood published in Guardian says:

“Europe’s march towards a post-Christian society has been starkly illustrated by research showing a majority of young people in a dozen countries do not follow a religion. The survey of 16- to 29-year-olds found the Czech Republic is the least religious country in Europe, with 91% of that age group saying they have no religious affiliation. Between 70% and 80% of young adults in Estonia, Sweden and the Netherlands also categories themselves as non-religious.”

An article on the situation in Australia titled “Most Australian young people open to change their religious views”says:

“Australian research company McCrindle recently released a study called The Changing Faith Landscape in Australia, which shows that 46% of Australians “identify with Christianity”. Furthermore, 13% defined themselves as unaffiliated believers; 33% of respondents said they were atheists or agnostic; and 6% practiced other religions.

Regarding the age, “younger Australians are less likely to identify with Christianity than their older counterparts”. Nearly three-quarters (73%) of the oldest generation still consider themselves Christian while just 38% of the Generation Z respondents said that.”

In contrast, Muslims are showing greater commitment to their religion, and this has continued to increase. An article about Muslims in America, “Non-Belief: An Islamic Perspective – Secularism and Nonreligion” by K Sevinç · (2018) says, “The rate of those who believe in God is 94.5% and those who self identify themselves as Muslim is 97%”.

The same is true of the whole Muslim world where the overwhelming majority of Muslims (95-99%) can be easily found as having firm belief in God, Muhammad and Quran.

If only 40-50 % (even less in many parts including Europe) of the so-called Christian world does not even believe in Jesus as prescribed in Christianity, why should their numbers be still counted as above 2.3 billion. The truth is that the number of Christians by faith is not more than 1.3 billion. There is absolutely no reason to doubt that Islam is the biggest religion of the world, and its percentage is expected to continue to increase at least in the next decade.

According to The New York Times, an estimated 25% of American Muslims are converts. In Britain, around 6,000 people convert to Islam per year and, according to a June 2000 article in the British Muslims Monthly Survey, the majority of new Muslim converts in Britain were women. According to The Huffington Post, “observers estimate that as many as 20,000 Americans convert to Islam annually.”

When it comes to the reasons why Islam is growing, the Western experts try to paint it mainly the effect of their having more children. First, the conversion to Islam is definitely much more than that to any other religion. Second, if Muslim fertility rate is slightly higher, the reasons are simple. First, the family system is still strong in Muslim societies whereas it has totally disintegrated in the so-called Christian or Western world. Second, Muslims are much less likely to abort than others, as they consider it a sin. On the other hand, in America and Europe, an overwhelming majority of pregnancies end up in induced abortions. Human Rights organizations do not care of the daily genocide which is going around the world without a break, resulting in the murders of more than 70 million unborn children every year. In India, female foeticide is very common in Hindu community with the Male/Female ration dropping to less than 100/80 in many states.

Muslims need to tell the world that support to promiscuity, homosexuality and abortions in the name of “Freedom of Choice” is nothing but a support to dismantling and destroying humanity on the earth, in terms of its physical as well as moral and social meanings. If the current trend continues, a time can come sooner than later when the very survival of mankind will be in danger. Those who support and practice these practices can hardly claim to be civilized. But what else can be expected in a world, which is dominated by what I call “Economic Fundamentalism” and where the interests of life, health and peace are only secondary to the interests of the market.

But the West-dominated media will continue to give the misplaced figures because this suits them. If they are showing this it does not mean that they have any love for Christianity. It is only because they think that Christianity in name rather than in its spiritual and moral forms is no threat to their system which commercializes all those practices that are considered immoral y most religions. They fear Islam more because they feel that the concept of fundamental prohibition is more emphatic in Islam

I need to emphasize here that if Christianity is losing sheen it makes me worried. Christianity needs to be serious about why it is losing to atheist ideologies of the world.

I have been arguing for decades that the challenge for religious in today’s world does not come from one another but from the ant-religion forces that dominate the world; and the religions need to unite to face this threat rather than fighting each other.

Dr Javed Jamil is India based thinker and writer and Chair in Islamic Studies & research, Yenepoya University, Mangalore, with over twenty books including his latest, “A Systematic Study of the Holy Qur’an”, “Economics First or Health First?”, “Justice Imprisoned”, Muslim Vision of Secular India: Destination & Road-map”, “Muslims Most Civilised, Yet Not Enough” and Other works include “The Devil of Economic Fundamentalism”,”, “The Killer Sex”, “Islam means Peace” and “Rediscovering the Universe”.

  • AAP faces biggest crisis since inception

AAP faces biggest crisis since inception

    [ad_1]

The BJP has struck such a blow to AAP that it has become a life and death situation.

No wonder Kejriwal wants to cut all losses and save the party and his image. The first action has been to order immediate resignation from the two Ministers embroiled in corruption on charges of a serious nature.

Secondly, he plans to put in two other Ministers quickly in charge of the large number of portfolios being held by Satyendra Jain and Manish Sisodia, who have now resigned, so that it is business as usual and administrative work of the capital does not suffer particularly the forthcoming Budget.

Clearly, AAP has suffered a body blow from which it may be extremely difficult for Kejriwal to come out unscathed.

The opposition in Delhi particularly the BJP is out for the kill and unforgivingly has already started high pitched demand for the resignation of Kejriwal.

With two Ministers of his cabinet including one of them Deputy Prime Minister being arrested on graft, the moral high ground of AAP has definitely caved in.

Can Kejriwal in all honesty say today that he was completely unaware of what his Ministers were up to?

Will the CBI arrest senior Ministers just on the whim of Narendra Modi? Does not seem likely, whatever the Opposition parties may allege.

Courts too have not granted bail to Satyendra Jain even after several months. Why did the Supreme Court ask Manish Sisodia to knock on the doors of the High Court and not give him any relief? These are the kind of questions that can definitely agitate the minds of the public.

Just playing the victim card and accusing the central government of misusing the official machinery for targeting opposition leaders may not cut much ice with the public.

The evidence collected by CBI may not be in the public domain but to say that they have not got any “money” or “money trail” to nail Sisodia and therefore he must be given a clean chit is not right because whatever evidence they found, they felt it was sufficient to take him for interrogation and later arrest him.

AAP has been put in an extremely tight spot which must be galling to its members particularly because the whole party had been formed out of an anti-corruption movement of Anna Hazare.

Manish Sisodia’s innovative education policies in Delhi were becoming very popular and considered a model in Delhi and abroad.

With its clean image and innovative policies AAP had been able to add another state like Punjab to its party fold and started having national ambitions, so far so that Kejriwal was being considered by some as an aspirant of the PM’s chair the next time round.

The Kejriwal model which AAP wanted to be replicated elsewhere in the country has got a severe setback with the present happenings.

The party’s national ambitions have to be clipped now because it just cannot take the high moral ground of being a party with a difference with an absolutely clean image.

The resignations by the Ministers are a two-way sword because if on the one hand, it demonstrates that AAP has zero tolerance for corruption and anyone facing any charge has to give up his job, then Satyendra Jain’s resignation is too late.

Secondly, the Opposition would be well within its right to point out the resignation itself as some kind of an admission of guilt, even though Manish Sisodia has said that he would like his name to be cleared before he holds any official post.

The present crisis could not have come at a worse possible time when the AAP party must have been looking forward to contest in the forthcoming elections in several states. Now it has first to answer all questions regarding the liquor scam, arrests, and resignations. Clearly, a very difficult position from which to contest elections unless you are able to put the entire blame on Modi’s party at center.

The problem is these cases take a long time to come to a conclusion.

Mere charges being framed put the party leaders under a cloud. As far as public perception is concerned once someone is tarnished it takes a very long time to wipe it clear. People in the public continue to have lingering doubts even after the authorities give a clean chit.

The BJP being pushed to a corner on the “Adani issue” has now got sufficient fodder to smear AAP and cut it to size before it could develop into a serious contender come 2024.

  • Gioventù Ribelle, one of the biggest Italian video game scandals reconstructed on Kotaku

    [ad_1]

Today in the world of video games we also talk about Italy, unfortunately not in a very positive way. The historian Damiano Gerli, who also collaborates with Multiplayer.it, has in fact reconstructed the case Rebel Youth For Kotakua case that went down in history as one of the most big scandals of the local video game industry, which has caused considerable damage to it.

The article gives a complete account of the facts of the time, starting from the political matrix of the project, endorsed by Giorgia Meloniat the time Minister for Youth Policies and today the Italian Prime Minister, and recounting how it was entrusted to a group of students of the IED by the manager Raul Carbone, at the time also a teacher in the private institute (who admitted it in an official press release, reported in the piece), before being presented to the then President of the Republic Giorgio Napolitano on the occasion of the celebrations for the 150th anniversary of the Unification of Italy.

Unfortunately the boys, who had very little experience, were given very little time to finish the work, which turned out to be incomplete and generally badly done, as you can verify from the video above, one of the few survivors that shows Rebel Youth in its entirety.

Gerli, who has done an excellent research job, has also reconstructed the phases following the launch, at least as far as he was able to do so, also reporting veiled threats received from no one knows who not to continue with his work.

  • The biggest election of 2023 reaches final sprint

The biggest election of 2023 reaches final sprint

    [ad_1]

“This election is off the charts,” said Ben Wikler, chair of the state Democratic Party. “It’s off the charts in terms of the stakes, it’s off the charts in terms of how much money is likely to be invested on both sides, it’s off the charts in terms of the number of people who are voting.”

The election, he added, “is the hinge on which Wisconsin’s political future will swing. And Wisconsin is the hinge on which national politics swings.”

The race is a full-on sprint between Janet Protasiewicz, a liberal judge from Milwaukee County, and conservative former state Supreme Court Justice Daniel Kelly. The two were, respectively, the first- and second-place finishers in a four-way primary on Tuesday. Protasiewicz and another liberal-leaning judge in the race combined for nearly 54 percent of the vote, while Kelly and another conservative-leaning judge were at 46 percent.

The contest has significant implications for the future of abortion access in Wisconsin. State Attorney General Josh Kaul, a Democrat, has sued to overturn the state’s 1849 abortion law, which prohibits the procedure in almost all circumstances. Providers have stopped performing abortions as the legal challenge winds its way through the court system, where it is expected to eventually come before the Wisconsin Supreme Court.

And the state Supreme Court could also wade into the battle over political boundaries — and ultimately political control — in the state. Republicans have a basically unbreakable control over the Statehouse despite statewide races being close to 50-50.

Turnout was also high for this year’s primary — 960,000, crushing the previous record from the 2020 February primary — and those in the state expect April’s election to follow suit, despite it being an off year.

“I think we are going to see high turnout from both sides, and why wouldn’t we?” said Mark Jefferson, executive director of the state Republican Party. “Everything is on the line.”

Jefferson dismissed reading too much into the numbers from Tuesday, arguing that Republican strongholds that didn’t turn out as much as the rest of the state in the primary will do so in the general. Wikler, for his part, said he didn’t think the vote share total was particularly predictive, but was encouraged by the high turnout in Democratic-leaning areas in an off-year primary.

Protasiewicz and her supporters have signaled they would target Kelly on the issue of abortion and his past as a defense attorney. Her first two general election TV ads, which were released on Wednesday, call him an “extremist” on abortion and say he “won’t keep our communities safe” for defending “child sex predators who posed as ministers.” And a Better Wisconsin Together, a liberal group that spent millions in the primary attacking Jennifer Dorow — the conservative judge eliminated in the primary who some Democrats saw as a tougher opponent over Kelly — has already booked TV time for the general election.

And in an interview, Protasiewicz raised Kelly advising the state Republican Party on a “fake electors” scheme in 2020. The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reported earlier this month that the former state GOP chair told the Jan. 6 U.S. House select committee that he and Kelly had “pretty extensive conversations” about the fake electors. Kelly has also served as a paid consultant to both the Republican National Committee and the state party.

“Look at what happened in the 2020 presidential election, and how the results of the Wisconsin election landed in the Supreme Court chamber,” she said. “I think it’s more likely than not that the results of the 2024 presidential election could also end up in the Supreme Court chamber.”

Kelly’s campaign did not make him available for an interview. But in a recent, pre-primary interview with The New York Times, Kelly declined to say how he would have ruled on a Dec. 2020 state court case in which Donald Trump tried to overturn the state’s election results.

He did, however, tell the Times he had “no reason to believe” the state’s 2020 election wasn’t decided properly, and a spokesperson previously told the Journal Sentinel that Kelly believed “Joe Biden is the duly elected president of the United States.”

Ben Voelkel, a senior adviser to Kelly’s campaign, said he thought it was “incredibly shortsighted” that Democrats were trying to turn the race into a “single-issue” contest on abortion. He said conservatives would rally against Protasiewicz because of the threat she posed on issues like charter schools and gun rights, and signaled they would lean into hitting her judicial record. Conservative-leaning groups had attacked her during the primary as soft on crime, highlighting a case in which she gave “probation for a child rapist.”

“She had very, very lenient sentences for some people who committed very heinous crimes,” he said. “There’s going to be more that comes out about what exactly her judicial track record is.”

Kelly’s campaign has yet to unveil any general election TV ads. But Fair Courts America, a conservative group backed by GOP megadonor Richard Uihlein, spent millions on TV boosting Kelly in the primary, and those in the state are anticipating it will continue its spending barrage.

And those on both sides of the abortion rights debate are already gearing up for an intense general election fight. On the pro-abortion rights side, Planned Parenthood is planning to spend seven-figures on the race in conjunction with its local affiliate, which has already hired staff in several cities to support its get-out-the-vote effort.

Steven Webb, executive director for Planned Parenthood Advocates of Wisconsin, said that in addition to fieldwork, it is spending on digital advertising, radio and direct mail campaigns as well — its largest investment in any judicial race.

Students for Life is also planning to engage in the race with digital media and outreach to activists on the ground in Wisconsin, while Susan B. Anthony Pro-Life America, which made a six-figure investment into the primary election, is planning to make another six-figure investment into the general election focusing on mail, texts, live calls and potentially digital.

“This is Wisconsin’s Roe moment. This is the most impactful election from a pro-life perspective that we have had since pre-1973,” said Gracie Skogman, legislative and PAC director of Wisconsin Right to Life, a third anti-abortion group. “That’s our case to voters: If they are pro-life, lives are on the line, we have a law saving lives, but that law’s effectiveness will be determined by this court.”

McKinsey to slash 2,000 jobs in one of biggest layoffs

    [ad_1]

San Francisco: Global consulting firm McKinsey & Co is reportedly planning to slash about 2,000 jobs in one of the largest layoffs, the media reported.

The job cut is likely to focus on support staff who do not have direct contact with clients, reports Bloomberg.

The layoffs are reportedly part of ‘Project Magnolia’, which the consulting firm hopes will help preserve the compensation pool of its partners.

“We are redesigning the way our non-client-serving teams operate for the first time in more than a decade, so that these teams can effectively support and scale with our firm,” a company spokesperson was quoted as saying.

Last week, reports surfaced that global consulting firm KPMG is laying off 2 per cent of its workforce that will impact about 700 employees in the US, owing to a “sharp slowdown in its consulting business”.

According to The Financial Times, KPMG became the first of the Big Four accountancy firms (EY, Deloitte, and PwC) to reduce jobs amid global macroeconomic conditions.

According to the report, KPMG has also been struggling with the collapse in merger and acquisition activity, which has hit its deal advisory business.

The Big Four financial accounting firms went on a hiring spree in the wake of the pandemic, as demand for IT consulting and deal advisory work had surged.

Last month, global investment firm Goldman Sachs fired more than 3,000 employees.

  • One-stop destination: Hazrat Nizamuddin to become NCR’s biggest station

One-stop destination: Hazrat Nizamuddin to become NCR’s biggest station

    [ad_1]

New Delhi: Hazrat Nizamuddin Railway Station of Northern Railway is going to be a one-stop destination for the NCR passengers as the station will now be connected with Rapid Rail after Delhi Metro.

The Hazrat Nizamuddin Railway Station, named after the Sufi saint Nizamuddin Auliya, located in the south of the national capital, is one of the three main railway stations in Delhi. It was also developed for the purpose of controlling and diverting congestion from New Delhi Railway Station. This station is connected to all the main and big cities of the country.

Hazrat Nizamuddin railway station has nine platforms and 13 tracks. About 250 trains pass through this station daily. Rajdhani Express trains for Bangalore, Chennai, Secunderabad, Madgaon, Mumbai, Bhopal and Thiruvananthapuram start and end here.

Compared to the other two major railway stations of Delhi, the journey to Hazrat Nizamuddin Railway Station is quite convenient as the station is very close to Sarai Kale Khan Bus Depot and Sarai Kale Khan-Nizamuddin Metro Station on Pink Line of Delhi Metro.

Another highlight is that it is equally easy for commuters to reach the station by private transport as Hazrat Nizamuddin Railway Station is adjacent to two important routes of Delhi – Ring Road and Mathura Road.

Reaching Hazrat Nizamuddin Railway Station is going to be more convenient for the commuters of Meerut and Ghaziabad as well in the coming few years. After the start of Delhi-Meerut Regional Rapid Transit System (Delhi-Meerut RRTS), this station will also witness uninterrupted travel by the passengers of NCR.

The distance between Sarai Kale Khan RRTS Station and Hazrat Nizamuddin Railway Station is approximately 300 metres. To ease the movement of passengers between Sarai Kale Khan RRTS Station and Hazrat Nizamuddin Railway Station, NCRTC is constructing a 280-meter long Foot Over Bridge (FOB) with a travelator.

According to information, approval has been given by Haryana and Delhi governments for the 106 km route from Sarai Kale Khan to Shahjahanpur-Neemrana-Behrod (SNB) for the rapid rail to be built from Sarai Kale Khan to Alwar. Once the construction work will be completed, it will become a one-stop destination.

Although the Indian Railways has recently upgraded the Nizamuddin railway station. Several passenger-friendly facilities have been added to the station over the years, from benches and improved waiting rooms to elevators and escalators for easy movement of passengers carrying bulky items.

Several passenger-friendly upgrades like security guards to control crowd on platforms, helpline numbers for cleanliness, RO for drinking water on every platform, large digital screens, facilities for disabled have been made.

Yet, Nizamuddin is far behind Delhi’s Anand Vihar railway station in terms of cleanliness ranking. Nizamuddin is ranked 241st across the country while Anand Vihar railway station is ranked 26th.

According to the Indian Railways, once again in view of the General Budget 2023-24, 13 railway stations in Delhi will be rejuvenated under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme. Hazrat Nizamuddin station has also been included in this. Railways will prepare a master plan to improve facilities at stations.
