Mumbai: The makers of ‘Project K’ chose the auspicious occasion of Maha Shivratri to announce the film’s release date.
‘Project K’, which stars Amitabh Bachchan, Deepika Padukone and Prabhas, will hit the theatres on January 12,2024. Sharing the update, Deepika took to Instagram and dropped the film’s poster.
“12.1.2024 #ProjectK..Happy Mahashivratri,” she captioned the post.
In the poster, we can see a big hand-like structure with one finger pointing ahead. We can also see three men with their guns aiming at that hand amidst a war background.
Prabhas and Big B also shared the posters on their social media feeds. “12-1-24 it is! #ProjectK Happy Mahashivratri,” Big B wrote.
Helmed by Nag Ashwin, Project K is a bilingual film shot simultaneously in two languages i.e Hindi and Telugu across various locations. The film will also mark Deepika’s debut in the Telugu film market.
In January, the makers also revealed the first look of Deepika Padukone from the film, on her birthday. In the poster, we can see a silhouette of a woman. The face of the woman is not visible but she looks like the Gehraiyaan star. With short hair and dress like a warrior, the poster looks quite intriguing.

Srinagar, Feb 17 (KNO): Amid confusion among the teachers of the School Education Department regarding reporting back to their respective institutions after the winter vacations, officials Friday said only teachers of Secondary and Secondary Schools will have to report on February-20.
The official said that as per the instructions, the teaching staff of High and Higher Secondary Schools will have to report back to their respective schools on February-20.
According to the news agency Kashmir News Observer (KNO), the official said, “There is no mention of resumption of duties for primary school teaching staff. So it is clear that they would not have to report on February-20.”
“However, such teaching staff may be ordered to report back to their respective institutions a few days earlier for streamlining the things,” the official said.
Earlier in November-2022, the School Education Department had said, “The Teaching staff of High and Higher Secondary Schools shall report back to their respective schools on February-20-2023, so that they remain available for making arrangements regarding preparation of ensuing examinations.”
”All teachers shall remain available on demand for any online guidance of students during vacation period. Any default on part of the Head of the Schools or Teaching staff in observance of the above schedule shall attract strict action under Rules,” it reads—(KNO)

Along with this, many other steps are being considered including banning the opening of new bank accounts of the Cheque issuer in such cases.

The head of UNAids, Winnie Byanyima, has strongly criticised pharmaceutical giants for prioritising profits over saving lives, and warned that “racist” inequalities are undermining progress towards ending Aids, especially in Africa.
Sub-Saharan Africa accounts for more than half of all new infections, with women and marginalised groups facing higher new infection rates. Aids-related illnesses were the leading cause of mortality among African women, and adolescent girls and young women were three times more likely than men to get HIV.
“Many times, they don’t come forward for fear of society’s sanctions against them,” said Byanyima, stressing that girls and women should be able to access sexual and reproductive services privately.
She knows well about the impact of the stigma of HIV. At a recent speech at the University of Nairobi Byanyima told a personal story about how her brother, who had HIV, stopped using antiretroviral (ARV) drugs when they returned home to Uganda, while he would use them with few issues when he lived in Europe. “He didn’t die of HIV. He was killed by stigma,” she told the conference.
Marginalised groups on the continent, including sex workers, gay men and transgender people, accounted for a large proportion of new infections in 2021. Thirty-two African countries have laws criminalising same-sex relations, and this often stops LGBTQ+ people accessing sexual and reproductive health services.
“Where there are various factors of inequality, that’s where you see the highest [HIV] cases,” said Byanyima. “They combine to crush people”.
Africa suffers disproportionately from Aids, and its response is still largely dependent on international funding, with most countries on the continent in debt distress or at risk of it. The debt crisis is fuelling mass cuts in health and development spending, and UN leaders have warned that the “vicious debt cycle” is pushing countries in the global south into making “impossible-trade offs” – a situation Byanyima says is playing out “across the continent”.
Kenya spends up to five times more on debt servicing than it does on health, and Ghana and Zambia have defaulted on their external debt in the last few years, prompting concerns that the debt crisis may spiral further, with devastating impacts for health and education spending. Studies cited by UNAids suggest that girls who completed secondary school were 50% less likely to become infected with HIV as they were less vulnerable to patriarchal power dynamics and poverty than their counterparts.

Barriers to health technology access the global south have also worsened health inequalities. The injectable drug cabotegravir, for instance – administered every two months and considered the most effective form of prevention – is only available in high-income countries like the UK and the US, and even there remains largely unaffordable. Last year, Zimbabwe became the first African country to approve the drug for use, but with the country in economic crisis the drug remains effectively unavailable.
Last year, after months of pressure from UNAids and other health organisations, UK pharmaceutical company ViiV – which owns a patent for the drug – approved certain manufacturers in 90 low and middle-income countries to develop generic versions.
“The injectable [treatment] would be a gamechanger,” said Byanyima, “particularly for people in countries where there’s stigma and where there are criminal laws against certain groups.”
Gay men in countries with the most severe anti-LGBTQ+ laws were more than three times less likely to know their HIV status than their counterparts in countries with the least restrictive laws, according to the UNAids 2022 report.

Incentives are lacking for innovation, said Byanyima, and the profits companies can make from lifesaving medications need to be regulated. She pointed to the pharmaceutical entrepreneur Martin Shkreli, who became a symbol of “pharma greed” after his controversial decision to hike the price of lifesaving drug Daraprim, used in the treatment of Aids patients, by 5,000% in 2015.
“The World Trade Organization rules allow lifesaving medications to be traded in the same way we could trade luxury goods. They allow pharmaceutical companies to set the price wherever they want, hoard their technologies and reap billions at the cost of lives,” she said.
Such policies expose racial inequalities and discrimination in health, she said. “To me, that’s racism, even though people don’t want to call it out: valuing the profit of a few people, who happen to be white, over the lives of black and brown people around the world.”
She pointed to the disproportionate impacts of the Covid pandemic on racial groups across the globe, and added: “For Africa, the lesson was: you must have the capacity to produce yourself.”
Byanyima urged African governments to set aside funds for research and development and explore equitable south-south partnerships.

DC Srinagar Issues Big Statement Regarding Anti-Encroachment Drive In Srinagar: Deputy Commissioner Srinagar on Wednesday said the administration will not touch the poor and landless people during the anti-encroachment drive as directed by the Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha.
Talking to reporters, Deputy Commissioner Srinagar, Muhammad Aijaz Asad, as per the news agency Kashmir News Observer (KNO), said they are following the directions of LG and it is clear that the administration will not touch the poor and landless people.
He also said the ongoing development works in Lal Chowk and other areas will take pace as work will continue during night shift in view of the improvement in weather conditions.
“The ongoing works will be completed on set deadline. Work is going on and with the improvement in weather conditions it will be done in night shifts as well,” he said.
Asked about the fake list of encroachers, he said two such episodes have been reported so far with an aim to create panic among masses. “The Cyber Police has also taken cognizance in this regard and those involved in the act will face the law,” he said.
He also said that the G-20 meeting is going to take place in Srinagar, which is a proud moment for Jammu and Kashmir, especially for the people of Srinagar.
On being asked about fencing of bridges in view of suicide incidents, he said fencing cannot reduce the number of suicides, but there is a need to ensure proper counselling.

In Massachusetts, which has a nearly $5 billion surplus, Democratic Gov. Maura Healey is looking to establish free community college for people 25 years old and older. Hawaii Gov. While Republican governors are prioritizing tax cuts, some can’t resist the opportunity by asking their legislatures to approve plans to boost certain public programs funding. Gov. Joe Lombardo, for instance, is seeking to increase annual spending per public school student in Nevada — which lags more than 40 states — by more than $2,000.
McCrory, who inherited billions of dollars in debt to the federal government for unemployment loans and a $500 million Medicaid deficit when he was elected in 2013, recommended that governors put the money toward one-time infrastructure and capital needs instead of long-running operating expenses.
When McCrory ran for reelection, he resisted calls from his Democratic challenger, now-Gov. Roy Cooper, to use the bulk of a newfound surplus toward giving teachers even bigger raises than he proposed and instead prioritized saving it.
“Politically, that was stupid. But fiscally and responsibly, I did the right thing,” he said. “I was pleased that I left the money in reserves. I’m damn proud of it. I never got a thank you note.”
There are some indications that fiscal conservatives’ trepidation may be justified. The financial good times could be coming to an end as recent research shows annual revenue growth rates slowed during fiscal year 2022 and state revenues are on track for negative growth by the end of the current budget year, according to a new analysis from Pew Charitable Trusts.
“Although higher-than-expected tax revenue growth, abundant federal aid, and record financial reserves have improved budget conditions recently, states must navigate several looming challenges,” Pew states, “including slowing revenue growth as the economy weakens and monetary policy tightens, historically high inflation, and a tapering of federal COVID-19 aid.”
And to realize their dreams, governors also have to face down their state lawmakers, who hold the real purse strings. Some, like Healey, will negotiate with a Democratic legislature eager for programs that Republican Gov. Charlie Baker might’ve rejected. But nowhere is the political gap between a new governor and their legislators wider than in Arizona — one of only two states where a new governor is faced with a legislature squarely controlled by the other party.
Arizona has an anticipated $1.8 billion surplus. But just weeks into her first term, Gov. Katie Hobbs, a Democrat, who was narrowly elected in a race that attracted national attention, unveiled a budget in January that immediately drew the ire of the Republicans who control the state legislature.
“House Republicans are reviewing Governor Hobbs’ budget proposal,” Arizona House Speaker Ben Toma tweeted, “but based on the left-wing wish list of spending details disclosed so far, I’m confident to say that it will be dead on arrival.”
Hobbs made her own flex a few days later, brandishing a veto stamp used by former Democratic Gov. Janet Napolitano, who was in office the last time Arizona had split government.
