Indian concept of `Seva’ is older than Corporate Social Responsibility: Bhagwat

    [ad_1]

Mumbai: Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) chief Mohan Bhagwat on Saturday said the concept of “Seva” or service in Indian culture is much older than the idea of Corporate Social Responsibility.

He was speaking after the inauguration of Seva Bhavan, an institute set up to offer health services at subsidised rates by an organization affiliated to the RSS.

“What we call `Seva’ (service) is deeply rooted in our society, compared to the recent concept of Corporate Social Responsibility. Our outlook towards Seva is that we do not expect anything in return for it,” Bhagwat said.

“Seva is sometimes defined as service, but there (in case of service) you expect something in return. In our tradition of Seva, people not only face appreciation but (sometimes face) criticism and opposition as well,” he said.

Bhagwat also said that Dharma' as per Indian tradition is not rituals but duty. "The duty of humans isSeva’,” he added.

Awakening feeling of nationalism will make India powerful: Bhagwat

    [ad_1]

Bareilly: Hailing the Indian family system, RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat on Sunday said the country will become powerful when the feeling of nationalism is awakened in every family and urged Sangh members to work towards ending “casteism, inequality and untouchability” in society.

He said the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) will take up the cause of environmental protection and called for encouraging people to join the campaign of planting “One tree in the name of the nation”.

“Till now, the Sangh has been mainly doing the task of nation-building through individual development. The effect of Sangh’s efforts is now visible in various fields,” he said.

Addressing RSS members and their families, Bhagwat said it is the responsibility of the ‘Sangh Pracharak’ to remove discrimination and create a social environment free from all evils.

“Casteism, inequality and untouchability have to be removed from society. Social arrogance and inferiority complex both should end. We have to do the work of connecting the society,” he said.

Bhagwat also stressed the need for adopting native languages, attires, music and food to stay connected to the country’s traditions and culture.

He said that the Sangh has expanded a lot in the last one hundred years and people of the country were looking towards the organisation with hope.

“People want to progress by staying connected to their native traditions and culture,” the RSS chief.

Bhagwat was addressing “Karyakarta Parivar Milan” programme attended by RSS volunteers and their families at the Atal Auditorium of Mahatma Jyotiba Phule Rohailkhand University.

“The family is the economic, social and cultural unit of the society. The Sangh has been trying to strengthen society and the country by trying to establish better coordination, mutual cooperation and harmony among families through ‘Kutumbh Probodhan’ programmes,” Bhagwat said, adding the Indian family system was the best in the world.

“The nation will become powerful when the feeling of unity and nationalism is awakened in families,” he said.

“That’s why it is the effort of the Sangh to empower society by connecting the families of volunteers with the basic concepts of Indian culture. People have to adopt their ‘mool bhasha, veshbhoosha, Bhajan, bhavan, Brahman and bhojan’ (native language, attire, music, architecture, travel destinations and food) to stay connected with their traditions and culture,” he said.

The Sangh’s image in society is built only by the conduct of the volunteers, he said.

“The volunteers must sit at least one day a week with their and friends and families and have food and discuss topics related to the nation and cultural heritage,” he said.

He also said that many social and economic problems will automatically be resolved if there is cooperation between affluent and deprived families.

The meetings held during Bhagwat’s visit saw special discussions on dealing with the crisis created by the indiscriminate exploitation of natural resources.

It was decided that environmental protection programmes will be taken up to make the earth and human life safe.

Bhagwat asked the volunteers to go to every village and serve the people and expand RSS branch in every district from the city to villages.

He said volunteers would plant saplings in homes and take care of them. He said people should be associated with the ‘One tree in the name of the nation’ campaign.

One ideology, one person can not make or break country: Mohan Bhagwat

    [ad_1]

Nagpur: Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) chief Mohan Bhagwat on Tuesday said “good countries” of the world have multitude of ideas, and one ideology or one person can not make or break a country.

He was speaking at an awards function organised by the Rajratna Puraskar Samiti here.

“One person, one thought, one group, one ideology can not make or break a country,” Bhagwat said.

“Good countries of the world have all kinds of thoughts. They also have all kinds of systems, and they are growing with this multitude of systems,” he added.

Speaking of the Bhonsle family, the former royal family of Nagpur, he said it was connected with the RSS from the time of the Sangh’s founder K B Hedgewar.

While Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj founded `Swarajya’ (sovereign state) and southern India was freed of atrocities during his time, East and North India were freed from atrocities under the rule of the Nagpur Bhonsle family, he said.

  • India belongs to Mahmood as much as PM Modi, Mohan Bhagwat: Jamiat Ulama-i-Hind chief

India belongs to Mahmood as much as PM Modi, Mohan Bhagwat: Jamiat Ulama-i-Hind chief

    [ad_1]

New Delhi: Jamiat Ulama-i-Hind president Mahmood Madani said India belongs to him as much as Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) chief Mohan Bhagwat.

Speaking at the inaugural plenary session of Jamiat Ulama-i-Hind at Ramlila Maidan in the national capital, Maulana Madani said, “India is our country. This country belongs to Mahmood Madani as much as it belongs to Narendra Modi and Mohan Bhagwat. Neither Mahmood is an inch ahead of them nor are they one inch ahead of Mahmood.”

He further said that Islam is the oldest religion in this country. “This land is the first homeland of Muslims. Saying that Islam is a religion that came from outside is totally wrong and baseless. Islam is the oldest religion among all religions. India is the best country for Hindi Muslims,” Madani said.

The Jamiat Ulama-i-Hind chief said that they are against forced religious conversions adding that today people who are converting their religion voluntarily are also being sent to jail on false charges.

He said, “We are against religious conversion driven forcibly. Freedom of religion is a fundamental right. We are also against conversion by force, fraud and greed. There are many examples of agencies targeting the Muslim community, such as the ban on Namaz, police action on them, and bulldozer action.”

The three-day plenary session of Jamiat Ulama-i-Hind began on Friday in Delhi.

According to Jamiat Ulama-i-Hind, Uniform Civil Code, religious freedom and Muslim personal law and autonomy of madrassas are among some issues that will be discussed in the convention. Further, it said a proposal can be brought to provide reservation for socio-economically backward Muslims.

In the 34th session of Jamiat, the steps being taken to strengthen religious brotherhood and initiatives to prevent hate campaigns are also part of the agenda.

Jamiat Ulama-i-Hind is a century-old organization and works for the protection of the civil, religious, cultural and educational rights of Muslims. Jamiat claims to be the largest organization of Muslims and socio-political and religious issues of Muslims remain on its agenda. The Jamiat believes in the Deobandi ideology of Islam.

  • Necessary to bring sense of equality with freedom: Mohan Bhagwat

Necessary to bring sense of equality with freedom: Mohan Bhagwat

    [ad_1]

Jaipur: Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) chief Mohan Bhagwat on Thursday urged the people to bring in a sense of equality along with freedom.

Addressing the Republic Day celebrations organised at Keshav Vidyapeeth here, he said: “B.R. Ambedkar, while dedicating the Constitution to the public, said that there is no slavery in the country. Even the British have gone, but to remove the slavery that came due to social conservatism, the provision of political equality and economic equality was made in the Constitution. That is why, it is necessary to read both the speeches given by Babasaheb in the Parliament on Republic Day.”

Saying that B.R. Ambedkar showed the path of duty, the RSS chief said that for (individual) freedom, it is necessary to take care of the freedom of others.

“That’s why, it is important to have equality. To have freedom and equality together, it is necessary to bring fraternity. Ideological differences arise as part of the democratic process in Parliament. Despite this, if the spirit of fraternity prevails, then the situation of equality and freedom remains,” he said.

“After Independence, the Constitution was framed to define the path and this glorious day is celebrated as Republic Day. The Tricolour is hoisted on both days. Its saffron colour symbolises the tradition of knowledge and continuous work with ‘Sanatan’. This is the colour of the sunrise, the harbinger of action. As a Republic, we will make our country a nation of knowledgeable and hard-working people. It is necessary to get the direction of activism, sacrifice and knowledge. The flag wears white to represent power. This colour unites us. Green colour is the symbol of prosperity and Lakshmi. The feeling of ‘Sarve Bhadrani Pashyantu’ is born in the mind. Keeping the diverse society united, we should take a pledge about how far we will move forward till the next Republic Day.

The programme started with the lighting of the lamp and the National Anthem, and ended with the collective singing of ‘Vande Mataram’.
