Maddur: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday inaugurated the 118 Km long Bengaluru-Mysuru Expressway project here.

It will reduce the travel time between the two cities from around three hours to about 75 minutes, according to officials.

The Rs 8,480 crore project involved six-laning of the Bengaluru-Nidaghatta-Mysuru section of NH-275 and will act as a catalyst for socio-economic development in the region, they said.

The Prime Minister also laid the foundation stone for Mysuru-Kushalnagar 4 lane highway.

Spread over 92 Km, the project will be developed at a cost of around Rs 4130 crores. The project will play a key role in boosting connectivity of Kushalnagar in Kodagu district with the state capital

Bengaluru and will help halve the travel time from about five hours, officials said.

Earlier on Sunday, Modi held a massive road show in the district headquarter city of Mandya, waving at a large number of enthusiastic crowd, who had lined up on both sides of the route, as the ruling BJP is focusing on winning a good number of seats in Old Mysuru region, where it is traditionally weak.

Bengaluru: Credit war on Bengaluru-Mysuru Expressway intensified in Karnataka with BJP stepping up its attack on JD(S) accusing it of attempting to claim credit for the project.

BJP MLA and former minister K.S. Eshwarappa dubbed the “attempts” of JD(S) to “claim” credit for the project as claiming someone else’s baby as theirs.

“Former Prime Minister H.D. Deve Gowda is claiming the child born to someone as his,” Eshwarappa stated addressing reporters while participating in Vijaya Sankalp Yatra in Madikeri.

In a joint press conference with former union minister D xV Sadananda Gowda, he asked the former PM to identify who his child is.

JD(S) party had released a full-page advertisement claiming that the expressway is the dream project of Deve Gowda and due to his efforts, it has come to this shape.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is inaugurating the expressway on Sunday and BJP is projecting it as a contribution to south Karnataka by a double-engine government. The party is holding a roadshow of PM Modi and he will address a mega public rally.

On the other hand, Opposition leader Siddaramaiah maintained that the green signal to the project was given by late Union minister Oscar Fernandez when Congress was in power at the Centre.

He also claimed that it was Oscar Fernandez who elevated the Bengaluru-Mysuru stretch of road from state highway to national highway.

Social media is abuzz in the state with the credit fight on Bengaluru-Mysuru Expressway. BJP is getting ready for the mega event and with the joining of independent MP Sumalatha to the party, the saffron party is looking up to PM Modi’s event and hopes to make an impact in the region.

Modi responds to Bommai’s tweet on Bengaluru-Mysuru Expressway

    [ad_1]

Bengaluru: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday responded to a tweet on a drone shot posted on Twitter by Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai of the new Bengaluru-Mysuru Expressway with the high-speed train Vande Bharat Express passing underneath a road over bridge section of the 10-lane expressway.

“What a view! 10-lane Bengaluru-Mysuru Expressway alongside Vande Bharat Express, a visual depicting the story of world-class infrastructure and unprecedented growth in Karnataka. Under PM Narendra Modi, our double engine government is working wonders in the state,” Bommai wrote while posting a video clip on his Twitter handle on Friday.

On Saturday, re-tweeting the Karnataka Chief Minister’s tweet, PM Modi said: “Our people deserve the best possible infrastructure, which our government will always work hard to provide. Our strides in infra creation have been widely lauded.”

The work on the Expressway project started in two phases around three years ago — in May 2019, and December 2019. However, due to Covid-induced constraints, little progress could be made.

The expressway is expected to be inaugurated and opened in March 2023. This project under Bharatmala Pariyojana (BMP) had a prior deadline of October 2022.

The Rs 8,000-crore project is expected to bring down the travel time between some key Karnataka cities from 3 hours to 90 minutes and less.
