Foxconn buys large tract of land near Bengaluru, BJP cheerful

    [ad_1]

Bengaluru: Foxconn, the world’s biggest contract electronics manufacturer and assembler of iPhones, has bought a huge tract of land on the outskirts of Bengaluru.

The key Apple supplier has stated this in its filing at London Stock Exchange. The news has come as a shot in the arm to the ruling BJP ahead of crucial Assembly elections scheduled on May 10.

Investment by Foxconn in the state had run into controversy following the opposition parties questioning ruling BJP and calling it a publicity stunt.

    MS Education Academy

The ruling BJP had announced the establishment of an iPhone assembling unit by Foxconn in Bengaluru. Later, the claim was disputed by the company.

An embarrassed Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai had released the letter of appreciation by Foxconn to defend against the attacks by the opposition.

According to latest reports, the company made the statement in this regard at London Stock Exchange. According to the statement, the 1.2 million square metre (13 million square foot) plot has been acquired near Devanahalli located close to Bengaluru International Airport. According to sources, the land was bought for Rs 106.24 crores.

This is seen as part of the company’s strategy to look for alternative production destinations away from China following rigid Covid rules, the sources said.

The Karnataka State High-Level Clearance Committee (SHLCC) had approved Foxconn investment proposal in March. The company proposed to manufacture mobile devices.

The official statement from the Large and Medium Industries Ministry said that Foxconn Hon Hai Technology India Mega Development Private Ltd (FHH) would invest Rs 8,000 crore with employment opportunities for 50,000 people.

The delegation led by Foxconn CEO and Chairman Young Liu had visited the state and held a meeting with Bommai in Bengaluru. The appreciation letter released by CM’s office was written by Foxconn CEO to Bommai and termed their visit a great success.

JD-S leader and former CM H.D. Kumaraswamy had asked the ruling BJP to clarify whether the announcement regarding Foxconn by the Chief Minister was a publicity stunt or if any MOU was signed.

He had earlier maintained that the Karnataka BJP government had the policy of maximum publicity and zero result policy.

“Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai and two other ministers took free publicity by stating that iPhone manufacturer Foxconn company from Taiwan has come to the state for investment. They held the signed letters in their hands stating the MOU had been signed and posed before the media,” Kumaraswamy had stated.

The Taiwanese company, on the other hand, told the media that there are no definitive agreements made to invest in Karnataka. At this, Kumaraswamy had said that if this is the case, what really happened in the presence of CM Bommai and demanded the government clarify the matter.

‘Grand tamasha’ Congress describes PM Modi’s Bengaluru roadshow

    [ad_1]

New Delhi: The Congress on Saturday called Prime Minister Narendra Modi a “master of distortion” and accused him of caring only for his “grand tamasha” and not the inconvenience caused by his 26-km roadshow in Bengaluru.

Congress general secretary Jairam Ramesh alleged ambulances were stuck on roads due to the chaos caused by the roadshow and said that Modi should cancel the second part of the roadshow slated for Sunday.

With just four days to go for the Karnataka assembly polls, Modi held a massive roadshow from Someshwar Bhavan RBI Ground in Bengaluru South to Malleshwaram’s Sankey Tank.

    MS Education Academy

The prime minister will hold another roadshow on Sunday morning.

“The Master Of Distortion and Incitement (‘Abuse’ No. 92??) is arriving in Bengaluru today. We already know what he’ll say to inflame prejudice and bigotry,” Ramesh said on Twitter ahead of Modi’s roadshow.

He said the prime minister will stay absolutely silent on the real issues of Karnataka like “40 per cent commission sarkar, intolerable price rise, rising unemployment, and a forever under-construction and dug-up Bengaluru”.

“This time the despair is so high that his #40km40percent roadshow over 2 days is locking up an entire city, creating chaos & uncertainty for students writing crucial exams, and felling a number of trees,” the Congress leader said.

“Have you ever seen a PM this desperate,” he asked.

After the roadshow, Ramesh said Modi should cancel its second part scheduled for Sunday.

    “Ambulances stuck, chaos on road!

“If the PM has any shame left or even an iota of concern for the people of Bengaluru, he would immediately cancel part 2 of the #40km40percent roadshow tomorrow. But we all know that all he cares for is his Grand Tamasha,” Ramesh tweeted.

He also shared a video of a traffic jam.

In another tweet, he said, “Jawans have been martyred, Wrestlers are protesting, Manipur is burning And all the Prime Minister can think of is rallying to save the BJP from a humiliating defeat in Karnataka. Pathetic priorities!”

Modi’s three-hour roadshow traversed through parts of south and central Bengaluru, touching about a dozen assembly segments. He waved at large crowds that gathered on both sides of the route.

Later, he addressed a rally in Badami and said the overwhelming response he received in Bengaluru during the roadshow made him believe that it is the people who are contesting the Karnataka elections on behalf of the BJP.

He said that the love and affection he received in Bengaluru was “unparalleled”.

PM holds massive road-show in Bengaluru as BJP raises poll pitch

    [ad_1]

Bengaluru: With just four days left for Assembly polls in Karnataka, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday held a massive road show in the city, waving at a large number of enthusiastic crowd, who had lined up on both sides of the route.

The 26 km roadshow from Someshwar Bhavan RBI Ground in Bengaluru South to Malleshwaram’s Sankey Tank, was covered in about three hours.

Modi’s roadshow traversed through parts of south and central Bengaluru, touching about a dozen Assembly segments.

The Prime Minister was accompanied by Bengaluru South MP, Tejasvi Surya and Bengaluru Central MP, P C Mohan.

Standing on the specially designed vehicle, Modi greeted the crowd gathered on the sides of the roads and on nearby buildings, many of whom were seen chanting ‘Modi, Modi’, ‘Jai Bajarangbali’, ‘Bharat Mata ki Jai’ slogans and shouting loud cheers in what appeared to be a “festive atmosphere” in several places.

At many places, people showered flower petals as his cavalcade passed through the stretch slowly, amid sounds of drum beats. The Prime Minister too responded by showering the flower petals gathered on the vehicle, back at the crowd.

Massive arrangements had been made along the stretch, including erecting barricades, to ensure that the roadshow goes on smoothly. Tight security was put in place.

    modi bengaluru

According to state BJP sources, tens of thousands of people had gathered along the roadside.

The entire distance was decked up with saffron hues as BJP flags were seen on either side of the road, and thousands of party workers and supporters too were wearing saffron shawls and caps. Saffron flag, which looked like the ‘Bhagwa flag’ with lord Hanuman’s face on it, was spotted at several places.

Cultural teams were also stationed at different places along the stretch to welcome Modi. A group of women ‘Pourakarmikas’ (civic workers) were seen gathered at a spot to greet Modi.

The much shorter roadshow, about 10 km, between Kempegowda statue at Thippasandra to Trinity circle, will be held on Sunday.
Keeping National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) in mind, the BJP on Friday modified Modi’s two-day roadshow in Bengaluru, by scheduling the extensive event today and shorter one on May 7.

The roadshow, earlier scheduled to be held for eight hours on Saturday alone, was split into two parts on Saturday and Sunday to avoid inconvenience to the public.

Operation Kaveri: 362 Indian stranded in Sudan reach Bengaluru

    [ad_1]

Bengaluru:A flight carrying 362 Indians who were stranded in strife-torn Sudan landed at the Kempegowda International Airport in Bengaluru on Friday, a senior official said.

The evacuees included 114 from Karnataka, he added.

India on Friday brought home 754 people under its mission to evacuate stranded Indians from Sudan. While 392 people arrived in New Delhi in a C-17 heavy-lift aircraft of the Indian Air Force, 362 Indians were brought to Bengaluru.

    MS Education Academy

According to official data, the total number of Indians brought home from the African nation now stands at 1,360.

Under Operation Kaveri, India has been rescuing its citizens in buses from conflict zones in Khartoum and other troubled areas to Port Sudan from where they are being taken to Jeddah in Indian Air Force’s transport aircraft and Indian Navy’s ships. From Jeddah, the Indians are being brought home in either commercial flights or IAF aircraft.

Commissioner of Karnataka State Disaster Management Authority Manoj Rajan said, “Today we had a flight bringing 362 evacuees from Sudan. It landed at Kempegowda International Airport at 4.30 pm.”

“These 362 evacuees comprised 241 males, 107 females, 12 children and two infants. Of those who arrived from Sudan, 114 are from Karnataka,” he said.

Most of those from Karnataka belonged to the Hakki-Pikki tribe who had got to Sudan to offer medical treatment to the people there.

In the last two days, 119 people from Karnataka have been evacuated from Sudan. Of them, 50 are from Shivamogga, 45 from Mysuru, 14 from Bengaluru, four from Kalaburagi, two each from Ramanagara and Udupi and one each from Davangere and Hassan districts, Rajan said.

“Arrangements have also been made for last-mile connectivity. Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation buses have been arranged to carry the evacuees from Bengaluru Airport to their hometowns,” the officer added.

India has set up separate control rooms in Jeddah and Port Sudan and the Indian embassy in Khartoum has been coordinating with them and the MEA’s headquarters in Delhi.

Sudan has been witnessing deadly fighting between the country’s army and a paramilitary group that has reportedly left around 400 people dead.

On Monday, Jaishankar announced the launch of Operation Kaveri to evacuate Indians from Sudan.

Bengaluru court rejects transit bail plea of IYC President B V Srinivas

    [ad_1]

Bengaluru: A local court here has rejected the transit anticipatory bail to Indian Youth Congress President B V Srinivas.

He has been accused of harassment and gender discrimination by Angkita Dutta, a youth Congress leader from Assam, and has been asked to appear before the Assam Police for questioning on May 2.

In his plea before the Additional City Civil and Sessions Court, Srinivas had sought the transit bail so that he could approach the jurisdictional court for bail.

    MS Education Academy

Judge K S Jyothishree heard the plea on Thursday and announced its rejection on Friday.

Appearing for Dutta, senior counsel Phaneendra submitted that the accused had already approached the Guwahati High Court in the matter but claimed he had not approached any other court in this plea.

The lawyer argued that since Srinivas was influential, he would destroy the evidence if granted bail. He was accused of serious offences and therefore custodial interrogation was necessary, he added.

Srinivas’s counsel, senior advocate Shashikiran Shetty had argued that the complainant was hand-in-glove with political rivals and had made the allegation out of political ill-will. The Assam police was in Karnataka to arrest Srinivas in a complaint filed long after the alleged incident.

Dutta had alleged that Srinivas had harassed her for over six months and had threatened her not to bring it to the notice of Congress leaders. He allegedly assaulted her on February 25 in a hotel in Chhattisgarh, and allegedly harassed her in Guwahati as well, earlier.

She filed the complaint on April 19, 2023 in a police station in Kamrup, Assam. Srinivas has been booked under various Sections of IPC 294, 342, 352, 354, 354(A)(iv), 506 and 509, and Section 67 of the Information Technology Act.
