  • Teachers’ scam: CBI files fresh FIR against anonymous beneficiaries

Teachers’ scam: CBI files fresh FIR against anonymous beneficiaries

    [ad_1]

Kolkata: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has filed a fresh FIR in West Bengal’s multi-crore recruitment scam of teaching and non-teaching staff against anonymous beneficiaries of the proceeds of the scam.

CBI sources said that the fresh FIR has been filed following an instruction from the the bench of Justice Abhijit Gangopadhyay of Calcutta High Court.

“Justice Gangopadhyay gave the instruction considering that names of more brains behind the scam are yet to surface. Hence, as per instruction, we have filed a fresh FIR in the matter naming anonymous beneficiaries,” a CBI source said.

The source also said that it has been mentioned in the FIR that these anonymous beneficiaries include some insiders in the West Bengal School Service Commission (WBSSC).

As per initial estimates of the CBI, a total of 16,500 individuals, which included both teaching and non- teaching staff, were appointed illegally against monetary considerations.

During a hearing in the matter on March 2, Justice Gangopadhyay pointed out that in 2014, an entity named S. Basu Roy got the contract for evaluation of the answer sheets of candidates appearing for the written examination. He also said that that the charge is that there had been irregularities in the evaluation process where ineligible candidates were granted higher marks.

Justice Gangopadhyay directed the CBI to investigate the reasons behind giving so many important assignments to that entity and why the said entity had access to the confidential section of the WBSSC.

CBI sources said that all the members of the WBSSC’s the-then ad hoc committee responsible for giving these assignments to the said entity will be summoned and questioned by the central agency sleuths and if necessary, will be taken into custody.

On March 2, Justice Gangopadhyay also directed the Enforcement Directorate (ED) to become part of the investigation on this count.

  • BJP ‘Mahila Morcha’ to reach out to women beneficiaries of govt schemes

BJP ‘Mahila Morcha’ to reach out to women beneficiaries of govt schemes

    [ad_1]

New Delhi: With an eye on the 2024 Lok Sabha polls, the BJP’s ‘Mahila Morcha’ will launch a major outreach exercise from Monday by contacting women beneficiaries of various welfare schemes of the central government nationwide.

As part of efforts to connect with women, party members have targeted one crore of selfies with them in a year.

BJP’s Mahila Morcha head Vanathi Srinivasan said the party’s women’s wing will also launch an award ceremony in March in the name of late BJP veteran Sushma Swaraj to honour in every district 10 women who have made significant contributions in different fields.

She said the selfie exercise is part of the party’s efforts to connect with women.

Members of the party’s women wing will approach women voters in every district and tell them about the benefits of various government schemes, ranging from housing to cooking gas, toilets and opening bank accounts.

If these women have benefitted from any of these schemes, then party members will request them for a selfie with them, Srinivasan said, adding the entire exercise will be done through the NaMo app.

The programme will also help popularise these schemes among others, she said.

Over 25 crore women are believed to have benefited from the Jan Dhan scheme alone, under which bank accounts without any mandatory minimum balance are opened while the numbers of beneficiaries from other schemes also run into several crores.

Beneficiaries of various government schemes have been a targeted voting segment for the BJP, and their reach and popularity are believed to have played a role in the party’s electoral successes.

  • Masoodi Seeks Extension In Aadhaar Seeding Of Disability Pension Beneficiaries

    [ad_1]

SRINAGAR: The Jammu and Kashmir National Conference senior leader and MP (Ang) Hasnain Masoodi on Saturday asked the administration to extend the date of Aadhaar seeding of Disability pension beneficiaries.

Expressing concern over the plight of disability pension beneficiaries, Masoodi said that in view of the ongoing harsh winter season the administration should extend the seeding date so that maximum number of beneficiaries are able to link their pension accounts with their Aadhaar numbers.

Pending the Aadhaar seeding, Masoodi asked the administration to continue disbursement of monthly disability pension to beneficiaries.

“It is not possible for the physically crippled and challenged people to get their pension accounts Adhaar seeded in such a short span of time. Most of the upper reaches and outlying hamlets continue to remain disconnected from their nearby towns and district headquarters. Hastening the process, it goes without saying, will result in the financial exclusion of thousands of beneficiaries. Therefore it is imperative for the administration to fine tune the Aadhaar seeding with local climatic conditions,” he said.

He also impressed upon the government to increase the disability pension in view of the rising inflation and price rise. “The financial assistance given to the beneficiaries is too little to cover their nutritional needs, let alone meet their healthcare expenses. Therefore in the true spirit of being a welfare state, the government should increase the monthly assistance of the disabled up to Rs 5000 per month,” he said.
