IND vs AUS: It was very relaxing to watch Rahul & Jadeja bat, says Hardik

    [ad_1]

Mumbai: India’s stand-in captain Hardik Pandya was in praise of batting efforts made by KL Rahul and Ravindra Jadeja following the hosts’ five-wicket win over Australia in the first ODI at Wankhede Stadium, saying it was very relaxing to watch the duo bat towards victory.

Rahul, who had lost his vice-captaincy in Test cricket and was out of playing eleven for third and fourth Tests against Australia, slammed an unbeaten 75 to rescue India from a precarious 83/5 in 19.2 overs.

Along with Jadeja’s 45 not out, Rahul was also involved in an unbroken 108-run stand for the sixth wicket to help the hosts take a 1-0 lead in the three-match series.

“Talking about Jaddu, he did what he’s capable of. Coming after a break in ODI cricket, the way he finished as well, we needed a partnership with KL and he did the job for us. That was fantastic. It was hot, I was enjoying my bowling.”

“I was enjoying my batting as well. The way KL and Jaddu finished it off and the way they batted, it gave us confidence. It was very relaxing watching them bat. Overall, a very good victory and very proud of them,” said Pandya to broadcasters after the match ended.

The fast-bowling all-rounder was quick in admitting that India were under pressure while bowling as well as batting, but was proud of his team’s ability to find solutions in coming out of tough scenarios.

Mitchell Marsh’s 65-ball 81 did put India under pressure. But Mohammed Shami and Mohammed Siraj along with Jadeja got timely scalps to bundle out Australia for just 188 in 35.4 overs.

“We were under pressure both the times. We kept our composure and found ways to come out of those situations. Once we got the momentum towards us, we were quite on top of the game. I am really proud of the way we caught in the match. The number of chances we created, they had to be taken. Outstanding catches by Jaddu and Shubman as well,” Hardik said.

Jadeja, adjudged as ‘Player of the Match’ in the first ODI, stated that playing in the format after eight months of knee injury, his goal was to get used to the pace of a 50-over cricket match with both bat and ball.

“Playing ODI cricket after 8 months so I was just looking to adapt to the format as soon as possible. Luckily with the ball, I got a few wickets. When I went to bat, I was looking to build a partnership with KL. I knew that the total was small but still we had to chase it down,” said Jadeja.

“We’ve been playing Test cricket. Line and length is different to Test cricket. You have to alter you lengths and pace. I was looking to bowl in good areas and I was also getting a bit of turn. I was looking to build a partnership today of about 70-80 runs, and that’s what happened. It was not easy to play the big shots because the ball was swinging,” he added.

Srinagar, Feb 09: Jammu and Kashmir’s Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha Thursday said that large number of Kashmiri youth are scripting their future in the field of sports and the Valley youth have replaced stones with cricket bat, hockey and badminton.

“The misguided youth who would pick up stones are today holding cricket bat, hockey, badminton and tennis rackets in their hands. This is the outcome of the pledge taken by Prime Minister Narendera Modi three years ago that removed hurdles and resolved all issues in J&K,” the LG said, as per news agency—Kashmir News Observer, while addressing the closing ceremony of LG’s Rolling Trophy that saw the participation of 42000 participants, in Jammu.

He said that Covid dampened the sports spirit for some time. “But a large number of youth are scripting the new history in the field of sports. They are the real champions and making J&K proud,” the LG said.

He said that in October 2020, the government took steps to provide sports kits to youth in every Panchayat after seeing their enthusiasm. “We had assured the jubilant youth that they will get best possible sports infrastructure. Talent is being traced at Panchayat level and sportsmen are being provided best guidance to prove their skills,” the LG said.

The LG said that that the players with their sill and endurance on playing field have inspired youth generation, renewed the essential spirit of sports and made this tournament truly memorable.

He said that Youth and Sports department, mission youth and Sports Council is visiting village to village to trace the talent and provide them a proper platform. “Special focus is being given to build a quality sports infrastructure at village level,” the LG said.

  • Kashmiri bat manufacturing company to provide platform to talented players to reach international level

    [ad_1]

    Jahangeer Ganaie

Anantnag, Feb 24: For the very first time, a known cricket manufacturing company from South Kashmir’s Anantnag district has taken an initiative to provide a platform to talented cricketers of Kashmir to reach international level.

Gr8 Sports, a bat manufacturing company from Halmulla Anantnag, has signed MoU with various international cricket boards and leagues to vanguard the talent from Kashmir.

Owner of the company Fawzul Kabiir while talking to news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) said that he has witnessed that cricket players in Kashmir are very much talented but they lack the platform to reach to the mega stages.

“We have taken up initiative to provide them a platform so that they get an opportunity to reach to international level and prove their mettle,” he said.

Any professional cricketer below 36 years of age can make videos of his signature shots and upload them while tagging Gr8 Sports on social media, he said, adding that every video of batting, bowling or wicket keeping will be analyzed by experts and management companies and shortlist players.

Kabiir said that every year shortlisted players will undergo trials before selection committee members of international cricket boards and International league franchisees, who will select them for different leagues.

“Every year around 100 batsmen, 100 bowlers and around 50 wicket keepers will be shortlisted who will have to undergo trials and can reach international level as selection will be done on spot in Kashmir,” he said.

“Our aim behind this initiative is just to promote local talent and we have signed MoU with at least 10 cricket playing nations and if our players will be able to showcase talent, they can reach international leagues like Carabian League, BPL,” he added.

Let players play their normal cricket and make videos and upload them while tagging us and Mobica-our talent management company will access and on that basis screening will be done and players will be shortlisted.

After shortlisting, international coaches of franchises and international boards will be brought here one by one and will select players from shortlists on the basis of data base uploaded and trials, he said.

He said that even children have exposure to leather ball cricket and he is hopeful that local cricket players will be able to showcase their talent anywhere in the world.

“It will be a big opportunity for talented youth to make their career besides that it will help in keeping youth away from social evils and generate income as well,” he said.

When asked why he is sponsoring players, he said that mostly sponsored players are being used as advertising agents only and they don’t get proper opportunity as we want to make stars not marketing agents.

“The Company has also decided to start a monthly show that will be live on social media platforms where queries of players will be answered besides that international players will guide talented players as well,” he said.

“We want to provide talented players every opportunity to groom them into stars and this program will be started from March 2023,” he said.

Video: Cricketer Prithvi Shaw attacked with baseball bat for denying selfie

    [ad_1]

An argument over selfies swiftly escalated into a brawl with a baseball bat and a vehicle pursuit in Mumbai for cricketer Prithvi Shaw.

In the police investigation, eight persons are accused of charging at Shaw and his friend, shattering the glass of their car, and demanding Rs 50,000.

The accused, Shobhit Thakur and Sana or Sapna Gill, have denied the allegations and accused Shaw of attacking them first.

According to Shaw’s friend’s accusation, the brawl started in the early hours of Wednesday at a fancy hotel near the Mumbai airport after two admirers – a guy and a woman – approached the cricketer for photos.

As they refused to back down and wanted more photos, Shaw phoned a friend and the hotel management to have the fans removed.

After being ejected out, the supporters waited outside for Prithvi and, together with a few others armed with baseball bats, swarmed Shaw, the complaint alleged.

As Shaw and his buddy fled, they pursued the car, caught it at a traffic signal near Oshiwara, and cracked the windscreen, according to several media reports.

According to Shaw’s buddy, they also wanted Rs 50,000 and threatened to file a bogus police report.

Others mentioned in the complaint, however, have denied the claims.

In an interview with the media, Sapna Gill’s counsel, Ali Kashif Khan, said that Prithvi Shaw attacked her.

Gill’s companion videotaped her battling with Shaw, who was brandishing a broken baseball bat.
