People like Bageshwar Dham chief should go to jail: RJD

Patna: RJD leaders have reacted strongly to the upcoming visit of self-styled godman Dhirendra Krishna Shastri, the chief of Bageshwar Dham, a pilgrimage site in Madhya Pradesh’s Chhatarpur district, who is scheduled to hold a five-day spiritual camp in Patna soon.

RJD’s state unit chief Jagadanand Singh said that people like Shastri should be put behind bars.

“It is extremely unfortunate that he (Shastri) is not in jail. The BJP is lining up communal hooligans in Bihar. The people of this country have great faith in saints, but the BJP is destroying that. How can a hooligan turn into a saint? It has never happened in our country before,” Singh said.

“Dhirendra Shastri advocates turning India into a Hindu nation. I firmly believe that people’s comments should be within the purview of the Constitution. Such saints are dangerous for the society,” Singh added.

State minister and RJD leader Tej Pratap Yadav said: “If Dhirendra Shastri is coming here to stoke communal tension, I will stage a protest at the airport. He can enter Bihar only if he sends across the message of Hindu-Muslim-Sikh-Christian brotherhood.”

Earlier this month, Shastri had drawn the ire of Maharashtra Revenue Minister Radhakrishna Vikhe Patil for his “I don’t consider Saibaba as God… He may be called a saint or fakir” remark.

“A criminal complaint should be filed and action should be taken against him for his irresponsible statement,” Patil had said.

Udaipur: Self-styled godman Dhirendra Krishna Shastri the head priest of Bageshwar Dham has been booked for allegedly making a provocative speech and hurting public sentiments, a police official said on Friday.

Shastri claims to predict the future of people through chits and over the phone.

The case was registered at Hathipol police station over a speech that he delivered during a ‘Dharm Sabha’ programme held at Gandhi ground in Udaipur on Thursday, Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) Chandrasheel Thakur said.

Taking a suo moto cognisance of the incident, the Udaipur police registered a case against the 26-year-old under Section 153-A of IPC for promoting enmity on grounds of religion.

Meanwhile, five men were arrested in Udaipur’s Kelwara area for attempting to remove flags at a religious place to replace them with saffron ones.

Station House Officer (SHO) Kelwara police station (Rajsamand) Mukesh Soni said the accused were caught while they were trying to remove flags at a religious place near Kumbhalgarh town.

  • Gold chains worth Rs 4.90 lakh stolen in Bageshwar Dham godman’s congregation

Gold chains worth Rs 4.90 lakh stolen in Bageshwar Dham godman’s congregation

    [ad_1]

Thane: In a bizarre crime spree, thieves apparently lurked freely among thousands of devotees, including women, at a 2-day spiritual congregation addressed by self-styled ‘guru’, Dhirendra Krishna Shastri at Mira Road town and targetted many women attending.

According to the Mira Road police, after the 26-year-old Shastri’s discourses ended, at least three dozen women have lodged complaints of their gold chains being stolen during the two-day congregation.

As per the complaints, the victims have lost their gold chains, mostly ‘mangalsutras’, weighing between 5 gm to 25 gms, either made in pure gold or with other metals.

The Mira Road Police have pegged the total value of the stolen booty at a staggering Rs 4,87,000!

The event of Shastri – which had sparked off a political row here – was held at the sprawling Salasar Central Park grounds, attracting more than 200,000 devotees, including a large number of women.

At one point, due to poor management, it led to a near-stampede on Saturday in which one woman devotee was injured after which the local police had started security checks and crowd control at the entry points to the venue.

Many women had been lured by Shastri’s purported “miracles” and “healing powers”, and had come in hopes of some cure, but some returned not only disappointed but minus their gold chains/mangalsutras, said an official.

The organisers, the Shantaben Mithalal Jain Charitable Trust, had invited Shastri – the head priest of Bagesgwar Dham in Madhya Pradesh’s Chhatarpur – for the event even as some rationalist groups had opposed it and written to police not to grant permission.

Besieged with so many complaints, the Mira Road Police have lodged a common FIR for the first three dozen women victims, and are scanning the CCTV footage of the venue to identify the chain-snatchers in the huge crowds and catch the culprits.

  • Supporting Bageshwar Baba is supporting Hindu Rashtra; here’s why

Supporting Bageshwar Baba is supporting Hindu Rashtra; here’s why

    [ad_1]

Tum mera saath do, main tumhe Hindu Rashtra doonga, (Give me your support, I will give you a Hindu nation)” remarked Dhirendra Krishna Shastri popularly known as Bageshwar Baba on January 23.

Shastri was speaking on the occasion of Netaji Subash Chandra Bose’s 126th birth anniversary. He invoked Bose’s popular pithy slogan, “Tum mujhe khoon do, main tumhe azaadi doonga (Give me blood (used to imply sacrifice), I will give you freedom) before asking for support for a Hindu Rashtra.

Dhirendra Krishna Shastri is a 26-year-old “godman” associated with the Bageshwar Dham temple in Madhya Pradesh’s Chhatarpur. He has time and again claimed that he can read minds and recently, landed in a soup for failing to do exactly that.

What is the current controversy surrounding Shastri?

Shashtri is alleged to have fled from a Ramkatha event in Nagpur after he was challenged to show his miracle. A Maharashtra based organisation, Andh Shraddha Nirmoolan Samiti (Committee for abolition of blind faith) dubbed him a fraud for promoting superstitions and challenged him to join their satsang (religious program).

Reportedly, Shastri has accepted the challenge put forth by activist Shyam Manav of Andha Shraddha Samithi and invited the social activist to visit his Raipur camp.

In a video which has garnered following, Shastri can be heard saying that he does not have any miraculous power. “I am just a servant at the feet of Bageshwar Balaji. I do as he inspires me,” he remarks.

Why is Dhirendra Shastri a cause of concern?

Despite the evident Islamophobia and unscientific nature of Shastri’s claims, the Hinglish spouting, fast talking Hindutva godman has garnered sufficient attention. In an interview with TV9 Bharatvarsh, many devotees of the “priest” are questioned about their visit to the temple and when asked all of them without a quiver pledged their allegiance to Bageshwar Baba. Chants of Jai Shree Ram emanated from the crowd at the very mention of the godman’s name.

Earlier, Shastri would only claim and perform miracles akin more to a magician than a servant of God. However, over the past few months, his statements have taken on a horrifying Hindutva slant.

Different media houses have attributed absurd powers to Shastri. While certain websites ran a story claiming that Bageshwar Baba has followers from Pakistan which is a credit to Sanatana Dharma, some others have time and again reported on how Shastri has time and again converted Muslims to the Hindu fold.

    Ghar Wapsi

On January 20, Shastri, has said that as long as he lives he will strive for the “Ghar Wapsi” of converted Hindus. “Ghar Wapsi” is a misnomer used by the Hindu right to create a narrative in which they claim that Muslims and Christians living in India were originally Hindus and as such need to return (wapsi) to their home (ghar) religion of Hinduism.

“We’ve to focus on unity among Hindus and boycott those who speak against Sanatana Dharma,” said Shastri in Raipur where his is claiming to have been conducting ‘Divya Darbar’.

Earlier in January, Shastri addressing a Hindu gathering had said that if someone throws stones at a Hindu’s house house during a Ram Navami procession, the Hindus should take JCB to their house as India belongs to Sanatanis (followers of Sanatana Dharma). He also asked Hindus to pick up arms to protect their faith.

    Political support for Bageshwar Baba

According to reports, Dhirendra Krishna Shastri’s net worth is Rs 19.5 crore and his daily income is more than Rs 8000. Aside from monetary power, he has gotten support from various Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leaders including Delhi MLA Kapil Mishra who recently remarked that Shastri is getting death threats for his “good work of promoting Sanatana Dharma.”

With each passing day, Shastri’s popularity keeps growing and with it, so does the spread of Hindutva and Islamophobia in Madhya Pradesh and beyond.
