Pakistan Skipper Babar Azam Broke Another Record

Pakistan skipper Babar Azam broke another record Friday after he became the batter to score 18 centuries in the least innings.

Babar — the number one batter in the world in the one-day international format — achieved the feat during the fourth ODI against New Zealand in Karachi.

The Pakistan skipper has smashed 18 tons in 97 innings, which South Africa’s Hashim Amla achieved in 102, Australia’s David Warner 115, and India’s Virat Kohli 119.

Babar also holds the record for scoring his 13th, 14th, 15th, 16th, and 17th centuries in the fewest innings.

In the same match, the Pakistan skipper added another feather to his cap by becoming the fastest batsman to score 5,000 runs in one-day internationals (ODI).

The star batter became the first batter to achieve this feat in less than 100 innings.

Babar crossed this milestone in just 97 innings, becoming the 14th to score 5,000 runs.

South Africa’s Amla scored 5,000 runs in 101 innings, while West Indian legend Vivian Richards and India’s Kohli scored these runs in 114 innings.

Pakistan went to the top of the MRF Tyres ICC Men’s ODI Team Rankings with a win in Karachi in the fourth ODI against New Zealand.

Pakistan are the new No.1 team in men’s ODIs after a massive win over New Zealand in the fourth ODI of the bilateral series in Karachi. The hosts, who now lead 4-0 in the series that has one game to go, have 113 rating points, and edge Australia and India by decimal points.

Pakistan, who were fifth with 106 rating points in the ODI rankings before the start of the series, were in top form as they chased down tall targets in the first two ODIs.

They went on to win the third ODI in Karachi by 26 runs to move to third in the points table behind Australia and India, going ahead of England and New Zealand in the process.

In the fourth ODI on Friday, a century from Babar Azam, his 18th in the format, and contributions from others helped Pakistan post a tall total of 334.

Babar became the fastest to 5000 ODI runs in the process, reaching the milestone in his 96th ODI innings. The record was previously held by Hashim Amla, who achieved the feat in 101 innings.

    Babar Azam96
    Hashim Amla101
    Viv Richards114
    Virat Kohli114
    David Warner115

However, to remain at the top of the rankings at the conclusion of the series, Pakistan will have to make this a clean sweep by winning the fifth and final ODI on Sunday.

A loss in the final ODI will see them slipping back to No.3 and Australia reclaiming their No.1 ranking. New Zealand will remain at the fifth spot irrespective of the result of the final game.

Pakistan will also remain on top if the fifth match is abandoned or yields a no-result. (Icc.cricket.com)

  • Babar Azam Closes In On Breaking T20I World Record – Kashmir News

    [ad_1]

Babar Azam Closes In On Breaking T20I World Record: Pakistan all-format skipper Babar Azam is just two wins away from breaking another record in the shortest format of the game.

Babar will have the opportunity to etch his name as the captain with the most number of wins if his side trumps New Zealand in the fifth T20I at Pindi Cricket Stadium on monday (tomorrow).

Currently, Babar is the joint-holder of this record with Afghanistan’s Asghar Afghan (42) and is behind England’s Eoin Morgan (44) by two matches.

If the 28-year-old, who has captained the Green Shirts in 69 T20 Internationals, wins tomorrow’s match, he will be just one match away from breaking the record.

Under his captaincy, Pakistan reached the semifinals of two successive T20 World Cups — 2021 and 2022 — and finished as runner-ups in the latter.

During the second T20I against the Black Caps, Babar scored his third T20I century at the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore.

Babar is close to breaking the record of Indian cricketer Rohit Sharma, who currently tops the International Cricket Council (ICC) list with four centuries.

He is the only Pakistan batter with more than one ton in the format. The hundred puts Babar close to the top of the list of batters with the most T20I tons.

During the match, Babar managed to score his half-century on merely 36 balls and then slammed 51 runs off the next 22 deliveries, including 36 runs off the last three overs.

Babar smashed James Neesham for two fours and a six in the last over, completing his 100 runs off the final ball of the innings.

Lahore, April 16: Babar Azam notched up a fine T20I hundred in his 101st T20I to put Pakistan in the driving seat after he opted to bat first on winning the toss.

The Pakistan skipper put on a 99-run opening stand with Mohammad Rizwan, before the wicketkeeper was dismissed in the 11th over of the innings. Matt Henry, fresh off a hat-trick last game, sent back Fakhar Zaman next ball to dent Pakistan further. Pakistan went on to post 192/4 in their 20 overs.

Babar, however, continued in the same vein, getting to his half-century off 36 balls. He stepped on the pedal thereafter, slamming 51 runs off the next 22 balls, including 36 runs off the last three overs.

He completed his century off the final ball of the innings, smashing James Neesham for two fours and a six in the last over.

The 58-ball ton was Babar’s third T20I ton. Notably, he is the only Pakistan batter with more than one hundred in the format. The hundred puts Babar close to the top of the list of batters with most T20I tons.

Rohit Sharma with four T20I hundreds tops the list with five other batters, including Babar now, on three hundreds. Notably, both Babar and Rohit have 33 scores of fity or more in T20Is, second only to Virat Kohli, who has 38 such scores.

Pakistan posted 192/4 on board with Babar remaining unbeaten on 101. He shared an unbeaten 87-run partnership for the fifth wicket with Iftikhar Ahmed (33 not out off 19 balls) to lead Pakistan’s surge in the late overs.

    Brief scores:

Pakistan 192/4 in 20 overs (Babar azam 101, Mohammad Rizwan 50, Iftikhar Ahmed 33 not out; Matt Henry 2-29).–(IANS)

Ahead of the clash, Amir had made headlines after speaking to local media, stating: “My job is to take wickets and win matches for my team, so for me, facing Babar or a tailender batting at number 10 will be the same.”

With youngster Muhammad Haris smashing Mohammad Amir for a brilliant four to start the innings. Babar also smashed a solid cover drive against Amir in the first over. The two stars faced off again in the sixth over of the match where Amir drifted off his line, bowling a relatively easier delivery down the leg side. Babar simply flicked the ball away to the boundary, adding to Amir’s frustration.
