Twitter employees to soon receive stock awards: Musk

    [ad_1]

San Francisco: After another round of layoffs over the weekend, Twitter CEO Elon Musk informed the remaining employees that they will receive acevery significant” performance-based stock awards on March 24.

“This past week, we completed a difficult organisational overhaul focused on improving future execution, using as much feedback as we could gather from the entire company,” Musk wrote in an internal memo on Monday obtained by The Verge.

“Those who remain are highly regarded by those around them,” he added.

The memo, titled “Performance Awards”, was Musk’s first message to Twitter staff since he fired hundreds more employees over the weekend, including some senior loyalists and almost the whole product team.

However, he hasn’t yet shared any details about “how he will make up for the stock awards that went away when he took Twitter private”, the report said.

He also previously made internal comments in which he mentioned the structure he established at SpaceX to allow employees to regularly sell the company’s stock to interested investors.

Now, the company likely has less than 2,000 employees, which was about 7,500 when Musk took over.

“I think he’s just tearing this thing down to the studs and trying to run as lean as possible till the market turns around,” a recently laid-off employee said.

Recently, more than 50 employees were laid off, which were spread across several departments.

Twitter product manager Esther Crawford, who led the Blue project and Martijn de Kuijper, the creator of the now-shuttered Revue newsletter platform that Twitter acquired in 2021, were among them.

With this recent cut, Musk has done at least four rounds of layoffs.

This is happening despite his promise not to sack more employees after his brutal layoff exercise in November last year that affected two-thirds of the micro-blogging platform’s 7,500 employees.

  • Argentina sweeps FIFA’s ‘The Best’ awards; Messi and Putellas, the most outstanding

Argentina sweeps FIFA’s ‘The Best’ awards; Messi and Putellas, the most outstanding

    [ad_1]

This Monday the prizes that highlight the best coach and the most outstanding players were delivered. Messi, Scaloni, Martínez and the Argentine fans took the most anticipated prizes. For her part, Alexia Putellas repeated as the most outstanding footballer.

After the World Cup in Qatar, the International Federation of Associated Football (FIFA) gala did not have many surprises: Argentina, the world champion team, swept the most important awards: best player, best goalkeeper and best coach.

“The World Cup kills any competition,” said a journalist from the ‘ESPN’ channel in Spanish. And it is not out of reason. The World Cup, in addition to paralyzing the planet, is the final aspiration of a footballer. Played for the first time in the Middle East, Qatar 2022 had the advantage of bringing together the best football players from 32 national teams. All with the thirst to return to the World Cup grass after a year of delay due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

With that drag Lionel Messi was crowned the most valuable player of 2022. He broke the string of Robert Lewandowski, who won the award in 2020 and 2021. The competition was not easy, the French Kylian Mbappé and Karim Benzema were the other nominees for the award at the ceremony on Monday.

“Is incredible. It was a tremendous year and it is an honor for me to be here tonight and win this award”, said the only player who has all the important football trophies. “I achieved a dream that I had been waiting for so long and I finally did it. It is a dream for any player, very few people can achieve it and I was lucky to do it ”, he concluded.

Lionel Scaloni experienced a similar situation, who had to dispute the recognition of best coach against ‘Carletto’ Ancelotti, the Real Madrid coach and Pep Guardiola, coach of the powerful Manchester City.

For his part, the best goalkeeper was Emiliano ‘Dibu’ Martínez, who dedicated the award to his parents and brother. “They worked 12, 13 hours a day to provide food for my house” while he was in the sport, said ‘Dibu’ to the cameras of the reporters present. His mother cleaned floors while his father worked at the port, in a truck “that was leaking water,” the athlete said.

The Argentine fans were not left out of the party. He won the prize for the best fans.

The albiceleste only sought one goal: the world cup. An objective that everyone was clear about, the common factor of the statements of the three prominent ones. While Scaloni stressed that the key to victory was teamwork, Messi highlighted the work of his teammates.

The glasses also witnessed Messi’s claims. “For me it was my last World Cup and I wanted to enjoy it to the fullest”, a sentence that opens the door to future debates about the end of the 35-year-old’s career.

Putellas, the most outstanding soccer player

Everywhere you turned in the theater there was a star, either retired or active.

In the women’s field, several awards were also given: Alexia Putellas won the trophy for the second year in a row. Putellas took it in the middle of a race with the English Beth Mead, from Arsenal and the American Alex Morgan, from the San Diego Wave club.

Mary Earps was chosen as the best goalkeeper, as well as Sarina Wiegman, the best coach.

    The other FIFA awards

The Puskas award for the best goal of the year went to the Polish player Marcin Oleksy. This athlete lost his lower left leg in a work accident, which is why he plays in the amputee category. A half-volley goal supported on one of his crutches was enough to win the award.

At the gala, tribute was also paid to Edson Arantes do Nascimento, better known as ‘Pelé’, who died last December.

‘The Best’ has been awarded since 2017 after the breakup of the old ‘FIFA World Player’ award with the ‘Ballon d’Or’, awarded by the French publication ‘France Football’. A merger that tried to unify the criteria for who was the best player of the year.

  • MP courts awards death sentence to rape-murder convict within 4 months of incident

MP courts awards death sentence to rape-murder convict within 4 months of incident

    [ad_1]

Bhopal: A district court in Madhya Pradesh has awarded death penalty to a 22-year-old youth for raping and killing a nine-year-old girl.

While pronouncing the judgement on Tuesday, the court termed the act as ‘heinous’, which called for an exemplary punishment to send a strong message to the society.

The gruesome incident took place in November 2022, and the court pronounced its judgement within three months of the crime. After a fast-track probe, the police had filed a charge-sheet against accused Rahul Kavde, a resident of Betul district, soon after the crime was committed.

The court has also announced financial aid of Rs 5 lakh for the victim’s family.

According to the police, Kavde, who is the brother-in-law of the victim’s father, strangulated her to death after raping her in Itarsi town in Narmadapuram district. The police had recovered the body from a forest area located near the victim’s house.

A missing complaint was lodged at the local police station, following which the Narmadapuram district police had launched a search operation. The police were initially clueless until they came to know that the girl was seen walking with a youth, who later turned out to be the brother-in-law of the victim’s father. Subsequently, the police detained Kavde, who confessed to the crime during interrogation.

Narmadapuram SP Gurkaran Singh said the accused was taken to the forest area where he dumped the body. He tried to mislead the police for hours, but around 70 policemen and FSL team members kept on searching and after five hours, they finally found the body in a semi-nude condition. The child’s face was covered with a cloth.

Singh said, “The murderer was immediately arrested by the police and was presented with a challan in the court within 11 days. On the basis of solid evidence, he has been sentenced to death by the Itarsi court.”
