    Srinagar, May 5: Police on Friday claimed to have arrested two Jash-e-Mohammad militant associates in South Kashmir’s Awantipora.

    In a handout to GNS, the police said that based on a specific input, an operation was carried out on 04/05/23 by joint parties of J&K police, 42 RR, 03 RR & 180 Bn CRPF leading to arrest of 02 militant associates namely Bashir Ahmad and Gulzar Ahmad residents of Tral Awantipora.On whose disclosure, the following recoveries were made one AK-56, oneAK Magazine, 55 AK live Rounds, 4 Pistol, 6 Pistol Magazines, 24 Pistol live.

    According to police spokesman, In this regard, a case FIR U/S of Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA), Explosive Substances Act and Arms Act stands registered in Police Station Tral and investigation taken up.
    The timely arrest with arms and ammunition has averted militantt attacks like targeted killings in Awantipora/ adjoining areas, as well as avoided the nefarious designs of JeM to recruit young boys for their illegal/Unlawful Activities, reads the statement.(GNS)

  • Awantipora Accident: One More Injured Succumbs, Toll Reaches Six

    SRINAGAR: Another non-local labourer, who was injured in a road accident in Awantipora area of Pulwama district, has succumbed to his injuries, taking the death toll to six.

    Quoting an official, KNO reported that Ali Hassan Ansari of Jharkhand succumbed to his injuries at SMHS hospital in Srinagar on Wednesday morning.

    Five persons had died and 28 were injured in a road accident in Awantipora area on March 18.

    The accident took place when a bus turned turtle on national highway in Awantipora.

    Srinagar, Mar 18: At least four persons were killed and 28 more were injured after a bus they were travelling in turned turtle at Awantipora area of South Kashmir’s Pulwama district on Saturday.

    An official told the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) that a bus bearing registration number JK02BA 1881 turtle on National Highway in Gooripora area of Awantipora in which around 23 passengers received injuries.

    They said that all the injured were shifted to hospital for treatment, however, three of them succumbed on the way to the hospital while another succumbed to his injuries at SDH Pampore.

    He identified them as Nasrudin Ansari S/o Islam Ansari of Khairawa Tola Pakri Harditerha West Champaran, Bihar – 845451, Raj Karan Das S/o Shivu as Singhari Gobindpur Kishanganj, Khatia Pichhia, Bihar – 855117, Saleem Ali S/o Mohd Alauddin R/o Hakimnagar Chilhapara, Katihar, Telta Bihar – 854317 and Kaisher Alam S/o Sheo Majaqurul R/O Birnagar Sharifnagar Barsoiqhat, Katihar, Bihar- 854317.

    He said that among 28 injured persons five with minor injuries were being treated at SDH Pampore who have been discharged while others were shifted to SMHS Srinagar, two to SKIMS Soura and 10 to Bone and Joint hospital Srinagar where the condition of a few more is said to be critical.

    Meanwhile, police have taken cognizance and started an investigation in this regard.

    Meanwhile LG Manoj Sinha expressed grief over the incident and directed district administration to provide all assistance to the affected persons.

    “I am deeply anguished by the unfortunate Bus accident in Awantipora today, in which precious lives have been lost and many others have been injured. I have issued instructions to the District Administration to provide all necessary assistance to the affected persons,” Office of the LG tweeted.

    “District Administration is in touch with the bereaved families in Bihar to provide all possible help. My heartfelt condolences to the families of the deceased and I wish speedy recovery to those injured.” Office of the LG tweeted later.

    Deputy Commissioner Pulwama announced the ex-gratia of one lac for each deceased, Rs 25 Thousand for critically injured and Rs 10,000 for persons with minor injuries

    “On the directions of HLG, DC Pulwama announced the ex gratia of one lac for each deceased and Rs 25,000 for the injured. Also ensured the best medical treatment for the injured in hospitals,” DC Pulwama tweeted.

    DC Pulwama Baseer Ul Haq Choudhary while talking to KNO said that all formalities to take dead bodies back to Bihar have been completed and administration will bear the expenses to take them back to home for last rites.

    He also visited SMHS & B & B&J hospitals to inquire about the health of the persons who were injured in the bus accident in Awantipora.

    He ensured that best possible health care shall be extended to the injured—(KNO)

    CRPF Showcases ‘CSRV Vehicle’ in Awantipora Encounter

    SRINAGAR: The modern bullet and bomb-proof vehicle introduced by CRPF that was recently deployed during a gunfight between militants and army in the Awantipora area of Kashmir on Tuesday, came under spotlight after the photograph of one such vehicle during the operation was circulated on social media.

    The Hindustan Times reported, the CSRV or Critical Situation Response Vehicle can accommodate at least three commandos and be raised to reach the upper floors of a building while shielding them from the bullets, in counter insurgency operations in Jammu & Kashmir’s urban areas.

    Two CSRVs were designed and developed for counter-terror operations in urban or semi-urban areas during 2018-2020, The Hindustan Times reported.

    CRPF officers have two CSRVs and one of them was used in Pulwama as the two militants refused to surrender and continued to fire indiscriminately at forces.

    The hard armour at CSRV’s front can also be used to break walls and provide an entry into a building.

    CSRVs came under the spotlight after the photograph of one of them at the scene of Tuesday’s operation in JK’s Awantipora was circulated on social media.

    Pertinent to mention, the two militants Aqib Mushtaq Bhatt and Aijaz Ahmad Bhatt blamed for the killing of a Kashmiri Pandit days earlier were shot dead in the operation in Awantipora. An army man was also killed and another was injured in the operation.

    The two were hiding in a mosque and were also allegedly involved in the killing of two migrant workers last year.

    Two militants, Armyman Killed in Awantipora Gunfight

    Srinagar, February 28: Two local militants as well an army trooper were killed in a nocturnal gunfight in Padgampora area of Awantipora in South Kashmir’s Pulwama district on tuesday.

    Addition Director General of Police Vijay Kumar told GNS that two militants, armyman were killed and also one army trooper sustained injuries in the gunfight.

    The officer further said that the operation was prolonged with utmost care due to the close proximity of Mosque near the encounter site. Aqib Mushtaq was responsible for killing Sanjay Kumar Nath, the officer said.

    Meanwhile, both the slain militants have been identified. Aqib Mushtaq Bhat of Pulwama (A Category) and Ajaz Ahmad Bhat( C-Category) Son of Ghulam Mohammad Bhat resident of Syedabad, Pastana Tral, the officer added.(GNS)
