Minor siblings killed in suspected dog attacks in Delhi’s Vasant Kunj

    [ad_1]

New Delhi: In suspected cases of stray dog attack, two minor brothers were found dead in southwest Delhi’s Vasant Kunj area, police said on Sunday.

The deceased, identified as Anand (7) and Aditya (5), lived with their parents in a slum cluster in Sindhi Basti, they said.

On March 10, Anand was reported missing around 3 pm following which SHO Vasant Kunj (South) along with a police team and the boy’s family started searching for him, police said.

After a two-hour-long search in the jungle adjacent to the slum cluster, the minor’s body was found near a wall at a secluded place, a senior police officer said.

The child’s body bore multiple injury marks which seemed to have been caused by an animal bite, the officer said.

“On enquiry from the neighbours and the locals, it was revealed that there are many stray dogs inside the jungle area that often attack goats and pigs in the area,” he said.

Following this, a case under section 302 (murder) of the Indian Penal Code was registered at Vasant Kunj South police station and the body was sent to Safdarjung Hospital for post-mortem, police said.

Two days later, on March 12, Anand’s younger brother Aditya went to the same jungle area along with his cousin Chandan (24) to attend to a nature’s call, police said.

Chandan left the minor for some time and he returned to find Aditya injured, surrounded by stray dogs, they said.

“SI Mahender of Vasant Kunj South police station who was also present in the same area for the investigation of the March 10 incident heard the noise and rushed to the spot,” the senior police officer said.

The officer took the child to a hospital where he was declared dead by the doctors, the officer said.

The post-mortem of both the children has been done and further action will be taken based on the autopsy report, police said, adding further investigation is under progress.

Recalling the incident, Sucharita, a relative of the two boys, said Aditya was attacked while the family was busy with Anand’s last rites.

“This is very unfortunate and now after this tragedy, all of us are scared and angry. Why didn’t the authorities do something to help us? We lost our young children in stray dog attacks. Had timely action been taken, they would not have met this fate…”

“We want all the dogs in the area to be removed,” she added.

Expressing his anguish over the incident, Chandan, the boys’ cousin and an eyewitness in the case, said that nobody listens to their problems despite seeking action against stray dogs.

“It can happen to anyone. At least now the authorities should wake up,” he said.

The victims’ father is mentally challenged while their mother works at a beauty parlour in Mahipalpur. Now, they are left with only one child Ansh who is nine years old.

Following the incident, police said that a letter has been sent to the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) seeking immediate action in the matter.

“We have sent a letter to the MCD. This is a matter of serious concern and immediate action should be taken to curb the stray dog menace in the area to further prevent any loss of life…,” the senior police officer said.

An inspection was also carried out by the MCD officials. They caught some 15-20 stray dogs in the area who will be sterilised, the officer said.

  • Another FIR registered by Bihar Police for ‘fake’ videos of attacks on migrants in TN

Another FIR registered by Bihar Police for ‘fake’ videos of attacks on migrants in TN

    [ad_1]

Patna: Days after the arrest of a man for allegedly sharing “fake” videos of attacks on migrants in Tamil Nadu on social media, the Bihar Police on Friday registered a fresh FIR against four persons as part of its probe into the case.

The Economic Offences Unit (EOU) of the state police filed the FIR against Youtuber Manish Kashyap, Yuvraj Singh and two others “on the charges of indulging in spreading fake videos of migrants being killed and beaten up in Tamil Nadu on social media”, a senior officer said.

“Despite repeated summons by investigators, both Manish Kashyap and Yuvraj Singh did not turn up before the EOU sleuths. They are absconding. Now the EOU has initiated a process to arrest them,” Bihar Police (Headquarters) Additional Director General JS Gangwar told reporters here on Friday.

The EOU had on March 6 registered its first FIR in connection with the case and booked four persons.

Those named in the case are Aman Kumar, Rakesh Tiwary, Yuvraj Singh Rajput and Manish Kashyap.

It had already arrested Kumar from Jamui in connection with its probe into the case.

“Investigations by the EOU have revealed that the accused were indulging in spreading fake videos of migrants being killed and beaten up in Tamil Nadu on social media. Thirty such videos were shared on social media, forcing migrant workers from Bihar to flee Tamil Nadu in panic”.

Notices have already been sent to social media service providers for “preserving 42 such videos for further investigation”, the ADG said.

“A 10-member team of the EOU is analysing these videos…and those posting and sharing such videos for spreading rumours will be dealt with strictly. The Tamil Nadu police have also registered 13 cases to probe the matter,” Gangwar said.

The Tamil Nadu administration has opened help desks for the people to lodge complaints against those who are indulging in such activities and also for those who need any assistance, he said.

The Bihar government had, last week, sent a four-member team to the southern state to coordinate with officers who were investigating the matter there.

Fake videos of attacks due to my call for oppn unity against BJP: Stalin

    [ad_1]

Chennai: As various social media content of alleged attacks on migrant workers from Tamil Nadu have turned out to be fake, Chief Minister M K Stalin has alleged the “lies spread” regarding such assaults in the State was a fallout of his recent call for opposition unity to dislodge the ruling BJP at the Centre next year.

He blamed the saffron party functionaries for doing so.

A Facebook user shared a video of an overcrowded passenger train claiming that migrants from Bihar were returning to their home state in large numbers from Tamil Nadu. In its investigation, the PTI Fact Check found that the train in the video posted on social media travels between Bihar’s capital city Patna and Barka Kana in Jharkhand.

It doesn’t travel from Tamil Nadu to Bihar, as the social media post claims. The unrelated video was shared on social media with a misleading claim.

A Facebook user shared a video which purportedly showed a train teeming with people. The text in the video reads Tamil Nadu to Bihar’, which implied that they were migrant workers from Bihar leaving the southern state.

Earlier too, a social media post showing purported clipping of a Hindi newspaper, claiming it reported the alleged killing of the Hindi-speaking migrant labourers in Tamil Nadu turned out to be fake following an investigation by the PTI Fact Check Desk.

Stalin, in his “Ungalil Oruvan” question and answer series, asserted no migrant worker in the State has been assaulted as alleged.

Many such workers were employed in Tamil Nadu for a long time and never have they faced any issues, the chief of the ruling DMK said.

“Some have been preparing fake videos and spreading lies. The BJP functionaries in north India have done this with an agenda. You will understand the conspiracy behind doing so, if you notice that such lies were spread the very next day I highlighted the need for political organisations opposed to the BJP joining hands at the national level,” he said.

At his birthday rally here on March 1, attended by leaders including Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge, Stalin had stressed for opposition unity to defeat the BJP in the 2024 Lok Sabha polls.

The Chief Minister said that soon after he received information about the alleged attacks, he enquired if the migrant workers were targeted anywhere in the State and it emerged that it was not the case.

“I have informed Bihar chief minister Nitish Kumar that not even a small irritation has been caused (to the workers),” he said, adding the official delegation from that state which had visited TN over the issue has returned with ‘satisfaction.’

  • ‘Attacks on temples’: PM Modi raises issue with Aus PM Anthony Albanese

‘Attacks on temples’: PM Modi raises issue with Aus PM Anthony Albanese

    [ad_1]

New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday raised with his Australian counterpart Anthony Albanese the issue of recent attacks on temples in Australia even as the two leaders focused on concluding an ambitious trade pact by this year and bolster security cooperation in the Indo-Pacific during their first summit talks.

The two sides inked four agreements providing for cooperation in areas of sports, innovation, audio-visual production and solar power following the talks between Modi and Albanese.

The discussions were focused on boosting cooperation in clean energy, trade and investment, defence and security, critical minerals, migration and mobility, supply chains, education, culture and sports.

In his media statement, Modi said it is a matter of regret that reports of attacks on temples have come regularly from Australia over the past few weeks and that it is natural that such news worries everyone in India.

“It is a matter of regret that reports of attacks on temples have come regularly from Australia over the past few weeks. It is natural that such news worries everyone in India, disturbs our mind,” Modi said in the presence of Albanese.

“I conveyed these feelings and concerns to Prime Minister Albanese and he has assured me that the safety of the Indian community is of special priority for him. Our teams will be in regular contact on this matter, and will cooperate as much as possible,” he said.

In his comments, Albanese said Modi and he agreed on concluding the India-Australia Comprehensive Economic Cooperation Agreement (CECA) as soon as possible.

“I am hopeful that we will be able to finalise it this year,” the Australian prime minister, who is on a three-day visit to India, said.

Last year, India and Australia finalised the Economic Cooperation Trade Agreement (ECTA) and it came into force in December last. The two sides are now working on the CECA.

Modi said the bilateral security cooperation is an important pillar of India-Australia comprehensive strategic partnership.

“Today we discussed maritime security in the Indo-Pacific region, and enhancing mutual defence and security cooperation,” he said.

It is understood that concerns over China’s increasing military assertiveness in the Indo-Pacific figured in the discussions.

“In the field of defence, we have made remarkable agreements in the last few years, including logistics support for each other’s militaries. There is also regular and useful exchange of information between our security agencies, and we discussed further strengthening this,” Modi said.

The prime minister also noted that mutual cooperation to develop reliable and strong global supply chains also figured in the discussions.

In his remarks, Albanese described his country’s relationship with India as “multi-faceted” and said he was looking forward to hosting Modi in Australia for the Quad leaders’ summit in May and then returning to India in September for the G20 summit.

“Prime Minister Modi and I discussed the strength of our economic relationship demonstrated by the entry into force of the landmark India Australia economic cooperation and trade agreement,” he said.

On the comprehensive economic cooperation agreement, he said this “transformational deal” will realise the full potential of the bilateral economic relationship.

“I am proud of the existing cooperation between Australia and India on solar and hydrogen, two technologies that are critical to our energy transition goals and the opportunities for us to work more closely to secure critical mineral supply chains,” Albanese said.

“I’m pleased that today we have exchanged terms of references for the Australia India Solar Task force,” he said.

The visiting leader said Modi and he discussed the increasingly uncertain global security environment and committed to strengthening the Australia India defence and security partnership to address shared challenges as well as to work towards an open, stable and prosperous Indo Pacific.

“I welcome increased defence information sharing between Australia and India, including in the maritime domain,” he said.

Albanese said Australia is honoured to be hosting the Malabar naval exercise this year.

“I am also pleased to report that officials have made significant progress on a new migration and mobility partnership arrangement. This arrangement will promote and support the mobility of students, graduates, academic researchers, business people and other professionals,” he said.

“I am pleased to have exchanged a revised sports memorandum of understanding today which will promote cooperation between our sport-loving nations, including recognising equality, diversity and inclusion in sports,” he said.

  • BJP spread rumours about attacks on Bihari migrants in Tamil Nadu: JD(U)

BJP spread rumours about attacks on Bihari migrants in Tamil Nadu: JD(U)

    [ad_1]

Patna: Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar’s JD(U) on Thursday charged the BJP with spreading “rumours” of attacks on migrant workers in Tamil Nadu with an eye on “electoral gains”.

JD(U) national president Rajiv Ranjan Singh alias Lalan also said that though his party did not favour criticising the country on foreign soil, it felt that Congress leader Rahul Gandhi was well within his rights to express his anxieties about “threats to democracy in India” during his Cambridge tour.

“It has turned out that nothing had happened in Tamil Nadu. And just look at the people who have been booked and arrested for spreading rumours”, said the JD(U) chief, referring to cases being lodged against a number of BJP leaders by the DMK government in the southern state.

“So, this is the character of the BJP. Rumour-mongering, and coercion of parties opposed to it, all for electoral gains. But it is making a mistake. People of the country are now conscious enough to see through their designs”, said the JD(U) president, whose party snapped ties with the saffron party less than a year ago.

Asked about the controversy triggered by Rahul Gandhi’s remarks abroad, Lalan, whose party is now aligned with the Congress, said “we believe the problems in the country are best discussed on the home soil, which offers a very large stage. We do not think one’s own country should be criticised on foreign soil”,

The JD(U) national president, however, hastened to add “we also hold that Rahul Gandhi is well within his rights to express his anxieties about the threats to democracy in India. And the threats are, indeed, real. This is a fact borne out by the Supreme Court’s recent judgement on the appointment of Election Commissioners”.

He also sought to make light of speculations that Chirag Paswan, a known detractor of Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, and Upendra Kushwaha, who recently rebelled against the JD(U) supreme leader and quit the party, were likely to join the BJP-led NDA.

“Just recall the 2015 assembly polls when these people were very much with the BJP. They performed dismally”, Lalan said referring to the high-decibel elections which saw the NDA being trounced by the Mahagathbandhan'(Grand Alliance) that had come into being with Nitish Kumar, RJD chief Lalu Prasad and the Congress joining hands.

He also said that the BJP’s jod tod’ (attempts to split other parties) was at work in Nagaland where the lone JD(U) MLA ended up offering support to the newly formed government of which the saffron party was a part.

“Since we hold that we can have no relationship with the BJP, we held the Nagaland unit guilty of gross indiscipline and decided to dissolve it. The BJP had earlier broken away our MLAs in Arunachal, too. In Bihar, they wanted to do to us what they had succeeded in doing in Maharashtra and Madhya Pradesh. But we got wind of their plans in time”, alleged Lalan, referring to last year’s upheaval.

“The BJP has no scruples. Its sole concern is power. Just look at Meghalaya where they had been accusing the government of being the most corrupt. Now the same dispensation has returned to power and the BJP’s top leaders flew down to attend the oath-taking ceremony”, said the JD(U) chief.

“The BJP has had no achievement to showcase despite having been in power at the Centre for so many years. Everywhere it keeps talking about the Ujjwala Yojana, which has been a failure as expensive gas cylinders make it impossible for beneficiaries to go in for a refill. Another scheme they rave about is the Ayushman Bharat. They should release data of how many people have benefited from the promise of Rs five lakh health insurance cover”, demanded the JD(U) president.

The BJP is also trying to shy away from the demand for a Joint Parliamentary Committee to look into allegations against the Adani group which is being accused of the biggest corporate fraud in history, the JD(U) chief said.

“On the other hand, it keeps harassing its opponents through vindictive use of agencies like CBI, ED and Income Tax department”, he alleged.

  • In Tunisia, attacks on sub-Saharan immigrants increase

In Tunisia, attacks on sub-Saharan immigrants increase

    [ad_1]

Testimonies of attacks against sub-Saharan Africans have multiplied in different parts of the country since the controversial statements of Tunisian President Kaïs Saïd on February 21 about the “uncontrolled masses” of migrants from the south of the continent.

In Tunisia, security measures against irregular sub-Saharan migrants are intensified and random attacks continue. 33 sub-Saharan migrants were detained in Kasserine, in the center-west of the country, for illegal entry, and 69 were arrested over the weekend for the same reason, according to the Tunisian National Guard.

In Sfax, in the east of the country, four sub-Saharan migrants were attacked with knives on the night of February 25, while in Tunisia, four Ivorian students were attacked as they left their university residence, as well as a Gabonese woman who was leaving her home on Saturday.

Student associations continue to ask students not to leave their homes. These attacks have been kept quiet in Tunisia.

This situation takes place after the declarations of the Tunisian president, who announced “urgent measures” against sub-Saharan illegal immigration in his country, denouncing the arrival of “hordes of clandestines” and “a criminal enterprise to change the demographic composition” of Tunisia.

“What is happening is a serious crime”

Nothing was leaked in the Tunisian media on February 26 about these attacks that took place in the city of Sfax. Only the associations transmitted the testimonies of four victims who had to be taken to the hospital after suffering attacks with a knife in the Cité El Ons area of the city. Several local representatives went to the Habib Bourguiba hospital in Sfax to assist them.

The houses of these people of Guinean, Ivorian, Malian and Cameroonian nationalities were ransacked by their attackers.

The director of the Tunisian Observatory for Human Rights, Mostafa Abdelkebir, confirmed in a Facebook post that the migrants were expelled from their homes and their belongings vandalized. “What is happening is a serious crime,” he said. “I ask the authorities to assume their responsibilities,” he added.

On Saturday in Tunisia, several sub-Saharan students were attacked as they left their shelters and homes, according to a statement from the Association of Sub-Saharan Students and Scholars published on Sunday. The document urges students to stay at home for another week and call a phone number in case of abuse.

“I fear for my daughter and my wife”

For several days, many migrants have not dared to leave their homes. Many exchange messages on WhatsApp to give news and share the latest information or reports of attacks through social networks. In Bhar Lazreg, a neighborhood on Tunisia’s northern periphery where sub-Saharans used to live side by side with Tunisians, many are now cloistered in their homes.

An Ivorian who lives in this neighborhood declares anonymously: “I have been in Tunisia since 2015 and I am with my little family and everything. And, since these events started and after the first speech of the president, a lot has happened in other neighborhoods. And since then, every night, there are always attacks. There are Tunisians breaking into houses, breaking, looting and looting. There are many isolated cases. Right now, there are people who are trapped, who are in neighborhoods where they can’t get out nor to buy food. And I myself am very sad at the moment”.

And he adds: “I am with my little family. We are waiting for Monday to go to the embassy to register and go to the Ivory Coast. Because, for the moment, I can no longer stay here. Because, with what I see, I am very sad. I fear for my daughter and I fear for my wife,” he told RFI.

Tejashwi assures action against Sudhakar Singh for repeated attacks on CM

    [ad_1]

Patna: Bihar Deputy Chief Minister Tejashwi Yadav on Monday said that his RJD will take action against MLA and former minister Sudhakar Singh for repeatedly targeting Chief Minister Nitish Kumar.

“The party has already taken his clarification for attacking Chief Minister Nitish Kumar. Still, he is repeatedly attacking him. It indicates that he was guided by BJP and RSS and playing on their pitch. The matter is in the cognisance of party’s national President Lalu Prasad Yadav and he has asked national General Secretary Abdul Bari Siddiqui to look after it,” he said.

“At present, the health of Abdul Bari Siddiqui is not right. Once he recovers from the illness, he will form a committee to probe this matter and submit the report before Lalu Prasad Yadav to take action against him,” Yadav added.

Sudhakar Singh on Monday said that the Nitish Kumar government has failed in every sector in the state.

Earlier JD-U MLC Sanjay Singh strongly objected to the repeated statement of Sudhakar Singh against Nitish Kumar after the meeting of Mahagathbandhan’s legislators in Bihar Vidhan Sabha.

“The water has gone above the head. When will the RJD take action against him?” he asked.

  • AIMIM adopts 9-point resolution, condemns rise of Muslim, Dalit attacks

AIMIM adopts 9-point resolution, condemns rise of Muslim, Dalit attacks

    [ad_1]

Hyderabad: At the national convention here on Sunday, the All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) adopted a nine-point resolution, including condemnation of the increasing number of hate crimes against Muslim and Dalit communities nationwide, opposing the Uniform Civil Code, and scrapping of Maulana Azad National Fellowship among others.

    Attack on Minorities and Dalits

The resolution was moved by AIMIM national spokesperson Waris Pathan.

Apart from condemning Muslim/Dalit attacks, AIMIM stated that there was a direct connection between the patronage given by the BJP governments, frequent hate speeches and targeted violence, thus creating an environment of fear and insecurity in the country.

“BJP and Congress-led governments have repeatedly participated in “Dahram Sansads”, making genocidal calls against Muslims. State governments’ inaction against such sansads has emboldened criminal elements,” the resolution said.

It also acknowledged increasing sexual violence on women, violence for merely riding a horse to a wedding, and a call for socio-economic boycotts.

“AIMIM also condemns the silence and unwillingness of self-identifying secular parties to counter such hate speech and violence,” the resolution said.

The resolution also spoke about the clamp down on Love Jihad, crime in the name of cow protection, anti-conversion law, compensation to the victims, and rehabilitation of their families, strengthening the implementation of SC/ST Act and protection from religious-based discrimination.

    Reservation of Muslims

AIMIM’s second point was on the reservation of Muslims. It was moved by AIMIM Aurangabad MP and Maharashtra president Imtiaz Jaleel.

The Centre and several state governments have time and again refused to provide reservations to Muslims in the field of education and public employment.

“Other communities with similar (or lower) levels of deprivation continue to enjoy reservations while the same is denied to Muslims,” the AIMIM resolution stated.

It asked the Centre to breach the 50% ceiling limit on reservations by introducing constitutional amendments.

The resolution asked for sub-classification in the Central OBC list and ensure the most backward get the highest bracket of reservation.

It also asked the Telangana government to increase the reservation of backward Muslim groups from 4 to 12 percent.

    Uniform Civil Code

The resolution was moved by AIMIM national spokesperson Waris Pathan.

AIMIM vehemently opposes the implementation of the Uniform Civil Code (UCC) and termed it as a disaster that strips away every culture and religious group’s right to preservation under Article 29 of the Indian Constitution.

“A uniform civil code already exists in India in the form of various laws such as the Special Marriage Act, Indian Succession Act, Juvenile Justice Act, etc. If individuals wish to be subjected to personal laws they have the option to choose, marry, divorce and adopt under non-religious laws,” the resolution stated.

    Love Jihad/ Freedom of Religion

The resolution was moved by AIMIM national spokesperson Asim Waqar.

It recognizes Love Jihad and interference in the freedom of religion as draconian laws that are used to persecute Christians and Muslims.

AIMIM called for the repeal of such laws that restricts a person to chose a spouse/partner of their choice.

    Waqf properties

The resolution was passed by AIMIM Maharashtra working president Ghaffar Quadari.

It states that Waqf properties have recently been subjected to encroachments across India. It acknowledged that apart from Central and state governments, existing provisions of the Waqf Act have failed to ensure the safety of the properties.

I also urged the Centre to amend the Waqf Act 1995 and provide judicial powers, similar to the power provided in case to Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments.

    Violating Secularism, Hindu Rashtra

The resolution was moved by AIMIM GHMC corporator Sameena Begum.

AIMIM condemns the repeated calling for the establishment of a Hindu Rashtra by several MLAs and MPs.

“India was never a Hindu Rashtra and it will never be. India also respects those who have no religion or worship no deity. India must honour everyone with equal respect and dignity. No person must be forced to forfeit their religious identity or forced to accept a majoritarian supremacy,” the resolution stated.

It also demanded Prime Minister Narendra Modi defend the Places of Worship Act, 1991 in the Supreme Court.

    Talking to Sangh Parivar

The resolution was moved by AIMIM national spokesperson Waris Pathan.

It recognized Sangh Parivar as an organization rooted in anti-Muslim hatred and the promotion of Hindu supremacy.

“The Sangh Parivar does not believe in democracy, secularism or pluralism and instead promotes assimilation of diverse Indians rather than accepting its diversity,” the resolution stated.

    Educational Schemes

The resolution was moved by AIMIM Maharashtra working president Gaffar Quadari

AIMIM strongly condemns the scrapping of the Maulana Azad National Fellowship and Pre-matric scholarships for minorities, SC and ST students.

“The discontinuation of these schemes and slashing of the budget of union Ministry of Minorities Affairs by 40% is a clear expression of the government’s anti-minority agenda,” the resolution stated.

    Civil Liberties

The resolution was moved by AIMIM Bihar youth president and spokesperson Aadil Hasan.

AIMIM also condemned draconian laws such as the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA), Armed Forces (Special Powers) Act (AFSPA), National Security Act (NSA) and the Public Safety Act (PSA).

“These laws have been repeatedly used against Muslims, Dalits, Adivasis and intellectuals. The government must prosecute and punish officials involved in false prosecutions under anti-terror laws, and complete compensation for the victim’s families,” the resolution stated.

‘Modi-ji is giving our money to 1 person’: Kharge attacks Centre on Adani row

    [ad_1]

Raipur: As Congress’ 85th plenary session concludes, party chief Mallikarjun Kharge on Sunday hurdled a scathing attack at the Centre over the Adani issue.

The 85th plenary session of Congress was being held in Raipur.

Addressing the gathering on the third and final day of the session, Kharge said, “Few people are looting the property of this country. Modi ji is giving our money and property to one person. Adani has been made so big that he become as fat as an elephant…”

Pertinent to mention, a report by a US-based Hindenburg Research surfaced on January 24, claiming that the Adani Group had weak business fundamentals, and was involved in stock manipulation and accounting fraud, among others.

According to the statement, the Adani portfolio and the Adani verticals are focused on bringing India into the global economy and nation-building. In the summary of the long response by Adani Group, it said the report was “nothing but a lie”.

The report triggered a sell-off of shares of all Adani Group companies.

However, the Adani group had termed the report “nothing but a lie”.

The Congress chief further attacked the Centre over the border issue with China.

“Giving a clean chit to China, we targeted ourselves. We have degraded the relations with the neighbouring country. We keep on highlighting the mistakes committed by the government. Every worker of the party will fight till last breath for the constitution of the country,” he added.

He said the speech of former party president Sonia Gandhi was motivating and enthused new energy in party workers.

After serious delegation, Kharge said several important decisions and proposals were passed in the session.

“We took historic decision of keeping 50 per cent seats in CWC for women, ST, SC and youths. The meaning of Congress is patriotism, sacrifice, serving and dedication, fearlessness and discipline,” he said.

He said the fight against the ideology of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) will be intensified.

“Caste-based census is necessary and the one was carried out by our government was not published yet. National Education Policy is the policy of RSS and we are against it. They are trying to give the education of Manusmriti,” Kharge said.

Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi said, “During elections, issues not relevant to the public are raised. Politics should be on how to tackle unemployment, strengthen GDP, take up our economy. BJP conducted raids on us but we are standing strong.

“It is our job to give a platform to those people who are watching the politics of the country and understand that something is going wrong. It is our job to raise their voice. On the other hand, it is our job to tell and explain this to those people who are not understanding this. This is a huge responsibility,” she added.

Congress called for five action from Raipur plenary session.

In a statement, Congress said lakhs of citizens, including workers of the party, walked 4,000 km from Kanyakumari to Kashmir with Rahul Gandhi during the Bharat Jodo Yatra. The Yatra took forward an inclusive and progressive vision of India where Constitutional values reign supreme.

“In celebrating diversity, equality and fraternity, it presented a clear alternative to the BJP’s vision of India. In a few months, we will be celebrating the centenary of the Seva Dal, a crucial grassroots organisation of Congress workers. This will be an occasion to impart fresh energy into our mass contact programmes,” the statement said.

Congress said it is the only party that has never compromised with the BJP and RSS and its “despicable politics.”

“We will always fight to protect our political values against the BJP’s authoritarian, communal and crony capitalist onslaught. We are prepared to work with like-minded political parties on the basis of a common, constructive programme to preserve and protect the Constitution in letter and spirit and to address the three main challenges facing the country: growing economic inequality, intensifying social polarisation and deepening political dictatorship,” the statement said.

Congress asked party leaders and workers to work with discipline, solidarity and complete unity to ensure victory in important state elections in Karnataka, Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, Mizoram, Rajasthan and Telangana this year. “The results of these elections will set the tone for the all-important 2024 Lok Sabha election,” the statement said.

The party said its governments in Chhattisgarh, Himachal Pradesh and Rajasthan are models for the rest of the country.

In the decade from 2004-2014, Congress delivered the highest ever GDP growth, pulled crores of Indians out of poverty, and introduced many transformational rights-based legislations, such as MGNREGA, Forest Rights Act and National Food Security Act, the party said.

“The time is now ripe for a new vision to empower the nation’s producers and reboot the economy. MSMEs that have been destroyed in the last eight and a half years must be revived and made the engine of rapid growth and employment, through cluster-based skill development programmes for the youth, and dedicated funding and technological support for labour-intensive manufacturing. GST must be drastically simplified and significantly improved for the benefit of small businesses and traders, and GST compensation for states must be extended for another five years,” the statement said.

It further stated that agricultural policies and reforms must be reoriented to place farmers and farm workers at the centre, and not only production goals. Farmers must be safeguarded through measures such as debt relief and legally guaranteed MSP. To ensure the fruits of rapid growth benefit all sections of society, Sampoorna Samajik Suraksha must be introduced, especially a women-centric NYAY programme and a Universal Right to Health Act. To cement the foundations of social justice an immediate Caste Census is critical.

“India awaits a reinvigorated Congress and we owe it to the people to fulfill their expectations. Crores of workers of the Congress party must build on the momentum of the Bharat Jodo Yatra to defeat the divisive forces of the BJP and RSS. A mass awareness campaign will be launched against the crudest example of crony capitalism which the entire country and the world is seeing. We end the Raipur plenary with a renewed resolve and common purpose to build a stronger and united India,” added the Congress statement.
