Prayagraj: Local Congress leader Rajkumar Singh Rajju was taken into custody by the police on Wednesday after he allegedly placed the tricolour on the grave of gangster-politician Atiq Ahmad, calling him a “martyr”.

The Congress expelled Rajju, who was a candidate in the upcoming urban local body polls, from the party for six years, its city president Pradeep Mishra Anshuman said.

Anshuman said that Rajju was a Congress candidate for corporator from Azad Nagar in South Malaka.

A purported video of the incident went viral in which Rajju can be seen placing the tricolour on the Ahmad’s grave and raising slogans in favour of Ahmad and his brother Ashraf and demanding Bharat Ratna for the former MP.

“He was a people’s representative and a martyr. Why he was not given state honour and why the tricolour was not put on his grave,” Rajju said, according to the purported video.

Anshuman claimed to have a photo of Rajju receiving the award from state’s Deputy Chief Minister Keshav Prasad Maurya and said whatever happened was a conspiracy.

Rajju is undergoing treatment for some psychiatric issues, he said, adding a prescription for psychiatric medicines were found at his home.

Dhoomanganj police station SHO Rajesh Kumar Maurya said Rajju has been detained and an FIR is being registered against him.

Ahmad (60) and Ashraf were shot dead at point-blank range by three men posing as journalists on Saturday night while police personnel were escorting the two brothers to a hospital in Prayagraj for a check-up.

Atiq’s sister offers to surrender in court

Prayagraj: Gangster-turned-politician Atiq Ahmed’s sister, Ayesha Noori has expressed her desire to surrender before the court.

The chief judicial magistrate (CJM), Prayagraj has now sought report from Dhoomanganj police station in response to an application moved Noori.

The CJM has fixed April 13 as next date for hearing of the matter.

In her application, Ayesha Noori said she came to know through a media report that she has been termed as an accused in the Umesh Pal murder case.

“Since I have been made accused in the case, I wish to surrender before the court in order to pray for bail,” she said.

She requested the CJM to obtain report from the police in this connection.

Ayesha’s husband, Akhlaq Ahmed, a Meerut-based doctor was arrested by the special task force (STF) on April 2 from his Meerut residence and was taken to Prayagraj in connection with Umesh Pal murder case.

He was later sent to jail in 14 days judicial custody.

It is alleged that Akhlaq provided shelter and money to the killers of Umesh Pal, the key witness in the murder case of BSP MLA Raju Pal. He was then taken to Prayagraj.

It is alleged that Akhlaq, who was posted at Abdullapur Community Health Centre, not only provided shelter to the killers of Umesh Pal, but also money when they reached Meerut after the murder.

Subsequently, after the arrest of Akhlaq, his wife Ayesha Noori, too, was wanted in this connection.

Ayesha Noori came to limelight when she followed the cavalcade of police carrying Atiq from Sabarmati jail to Prayagraj to be produced before the court at the time of pronouncement of verdict in connection with Umesh Pal abduction case on March 28.

Pal and his two police security guards were shot dead on February 24, 2023, outside his home in the Dhoomanganj police station area.

On a complaint lodged by Umesh Pal’s wife Jaya, a case was registered at Dhoomanganj police station against Atiq, his brother Ashraf, two sons, his aides Guddu Muslim and Ghulam and nine others.

Allahabad HC reserves order on Atiq’s missing minor sons

    [ad_1]

Prayagraj: The Allahabad High Court has reserved its order on a habeas corpus writ petition seeking to know the whereabouts of the two missing minor sons of jailed mafia don Atiq Ahmed.

Atiq’s wife Shaista Parveen had filed the petition alleging that their two minor sons — Ahzan and Aaban — were arrested by the police on February 24 after the killing of Umesh Pal and their whereabouts are not known since then.

Atiq, Shaista, his brother Ashraf and two sons are named as accused in the case.

The order was passed by a division bench comprising Justices Vivek Kumar Birla and Surendra Singh after hearing submissions by counsels for the petitioner and state government.

Appearing on behalf of the petitioner, senior advocate Daya Shankar Mishra argued that the life and liberty of Atiq’s two minor sons are in danger.

Therefore, he requested the court that a direction be issued that they (minors) be produced before the court and set at liberty.

A preliminary objection was raised on behalf of additional advocate general Manish Goyal, who represented the state government, that an application under section 97 of criminal procedure code (CrPC) was already pending before the CJM Allahabad and hence the habeas corpus writ petition was not maintainable.
