Atiq murder: Police will seek remand of three assailants, says UP STF officer

Lucknow: A senior Uttar Pradesh Special Task Force (STF) official on Tuesday said police will seek remand of the three assailants who shot dead gangster-politician Atiq Ahmad and his brother Ashraf, and added all the questions regarding the killing will be answered.
“The murder of Atiq-Ashraf was committed in front of the media. The three shooters are under arrest. We will take them in police remand and all the questions regarding the killing will be answered,” DIG, STF, Anand Dev Tiwari told reporters.
He said whether there was a syndicate, persons or those having enmity with them, from where they got the arms — all these questions and the real motive behind the killing will be answered when the three will be taken on remand by the police.

Ahmad (60) and Ashraf were shot dead at point-blank range by three men posing as journalists on Saturday night while police personnel were escorting them to a medical college in Prayagraj for a check-up.
The three assailants — Mohit alias Sunny (23) of Hamirpur, Lavlesh Tiwari (22) of Banda and Arun Maurya (18) of Kasganj — are presently in Pratapgarh jail.
When asked about the Umesh Pal murder case accused Ahmad’s wife Shaista Praveen and Guddu Muslim, who are absconding, the officer said that they will be arrested soon.
“We have limitations but they have a number of means to evade arrest. As far as Guddu Muslim is concerned he is known as Guddu ‘bombaaz’ and is expert in evading arrest while Praveen remains as ‘pardanashin’ (in veil). But we will be arresting them soon,” Tiwari said.
Apart from Ahmad and Ashraf, four others named in the Umesh Pal murder case FIR — Asad, Arbaaz, Vijay Chaudhary alias Usman and Ghulam — have also been killed.

Umesh Pal was a key witness in the 2005 BSP MLA Raju Pal murder case, in which Ahmad was also an accused.
The FIR in the Umesh Pal murder case was lodged under relevant sections of IPC, including 302 (murder) and 307 (attempt to murder), and under the Explosive Substances Act by his wife Jaya Pal on February 25.

Atiq Ahmed murder: 3 assailants shifted to Pratapgarh jail

Lucknow: The three assailants who shot gangster-politician Atiq Ahmad and his brother Ashraf were shifted from the Prayagraj Central Jail to the Pratapgarh District Jail on Monday, a senior official said here.
The official said the transfer was done on administrative grounds.
The assailants — Mohit alias Sunny (23) of Hamirpur, Lavlesh Tiwari (22) of Banda and Arun Maurya (18) of Kasganj — were arrested soon after the dramatic shootout outside the Prayagraj hospital where policemen were escorting the brothers for a medical check-up Saturday night.

The trio were taken from Prayagraj at 12 noon and reached Pratapgarh at 2.10 pm, officials said.
One of the sons of Atiq Ahmad is currently lodged in the Prayagraj Central Jail in Uttar Pradesh.

Delhi woman shot for opposing playing of loud music, assailants arrested

New Delhi: In a shocking incident, a 30-year-old woman in Delhi was shot and injured in her neck by her neighbours for opposing their playing of loud music, police said on Tuesday.
The incident was reported from outer north Delhi’s Siraspur area and two persons were held in this connection, a senior police official said.
According to the official, they got a PCR call of the incident at around 12.15 a.m., with the caller reporting that a woman was hurt in the incident.

A police team reached at the spot and found that the injured woman was already taken to Max Hospital, Shalimar Bagh. The injured woman was later identified as Ranju, 30, a resident of Siraspur.
After this, the scene was inspected by crime team.
“On reaching the hospital, the MLC details of the victim were collected in which a doctor mentioned gunshot injury on her neck. The woman was unfit for statement at that time,” the police said.
The police said that they found out a witness of the case and her statement was recorded.
It was the sister-in-law of the victim who alleged that Harish, another resident of their colony was involved in the incident.

“She said that there was programme of ‘kuwa pujan’ of Harish’s son in which DJ was playing. Hearing loud noise Ranju and she went to the balcony and asked Harish to stop the DJ. Afterwards a bullet hit her bhabhi which was fired by Harish who took the gun from Amit,” the official said.
The official said that on her statement a case under sections 307, 34 of IPC and 27 Arms Act was registered against the accused, and both the accused Harish and Amit were arrested.

Hyderabad: Man bludgeoned to death by unknown assailants

Hyderabad: A man was murdered by unidentified persons at Chikkadpally on Monday around midnight.
The victim has been identified as Konti Srinu, who was living on the pavement at Viveknagar, Chikkadpally for about 15 to 20 days, said the police. He used to earn his livelihood by seeking alms from the general public.
On Monday when he was asleep, some persons came to him and hurled a big stone on his head leading to his death, said a police official from the Chikkadpally police station.
The local people found Srinu’s body lying in a pool of blood and informed the police control room. The Chikkadpally police came to the spot and shifted the body to Gandhi mortuary for post-mortem examination.
A sniffer dog was brought to the spot to trace the killer, but it was in vain as the police were not able to get any clues with the however. The Clues team also visited the spot and collected evidnence from the spot.
A case was also registered under section 302 (murder) of the IPC and investigation is on.

Delhi: Half a dozen armed assailants stab youth, open fire in air

New Delhi: In a shocking incident, a youth was brutally attacked, stabbed and made to run by half a dozen armed assailants who also opened fire in the air in East Delhi’s Mayur Vihar.
The entire incident was captured in CCTV footages which have been accessed by the IANS.
The police said that the incident was reported on Sunday morning.
A police source stated that the victim was stabbed nine times by the assailants who fled from the crime scene leaving the victim in a pool of blood.
The victim was later on moved to a nearby government hospital where his condition is stated to be critical by the doctors.
A case has been lodged in this respect. The police have formed a team of its elite officials to nab the accused. Further details are awaited.

Burkina Faso: 66 women and children freed after kidnap by armed assailants

Sixty-six women and children kidnapped by armed assailants in northern Burkina Faso last week have been freed, it has been reported.
The mass kidnapping was unprecedented in Burkina Faso, which is facing a violent Islamist insurgency that spread from neighbouring Mali in 2015.
On 12 and 13 January, armed men seized the women and their children while they were scouring the bush for fruit and leaves outside two villages in the district of Arbinda, in the Sahel region’s Soum province.
Security forces staged a rescue operation and found 27 adult women and 39 babies, children and young girls in the adjacent Centre-North province.
On Friday, the national broadcaster Radiodiffusion Télévision du Burkina (RTP) reported the group had been freed.
“They have found freedom after eight long days in the hands of their kidnappers,” an RTP presenter said.
A government source confirmed the information but did not provide any details.
Burkina Faso is one of several countries in West Africa battling an insurgency with links to al-Qaida and Islamic State.

Jihadists have occupied territory in the country’s arid and mainly rural north, killing hundreds of villagers and displacing thousands more in the process.
They have also blockaded certain areas in recent months and made it increasingly dangerous to deliver supplies to trapped citizens.
Faced with acute food shortages, many villagers have resorted to picking wild fruit, leaves and seeds to feed their families. They say venturing into the bush makes them vulnerable to jihadist attacks.
The Sahel insurgency has killed thousands of people across the region and forced more than 2.7 million to flee their homes over the past decade, according to the United Nations.
Frustration over the authorities’ failure to restore security and protect civilians were contributing factors to military coups in Burkina Faso and Mali.
