‘When Babri Masjid was demolished, they…,’ Asaduddin Owaisi hits out at Congress

Hubballi: Hitting out at the Congress party on Tuesday, AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi said that the grand old party just makes promises before the elections but non of them are fulfilled.

Referring to the Babri Masjid demolition, he said that Congress made a resolution of rebuilding the mosque but nothing was done.

“When Babri Masjid was demolished, they made a resolution of rebuilding a mosque there. What became of that? A lot of things are said before elections. You can see what happens post-elections…,” said Owaisi.

Owaisi refuted the claims made by Congress that he was sent by the BJP to divide Muslim votes in the poll-bound Karnataka.

“…This is nonsense. We are contesting on only 2 seats across Karnataka. There is a saying in Urdu – naach na jaane aangan tedha. That is their case,” he said.

Earlier on Tuesday, the Congress released its manifesto for Karnataka polls making a slew of promises such as ‘Gruha Jyoti’, ‘Gruha Lakshmi’ and ‘Anna Bhagya’ even as it apparently sought to draw a parallel between Bajrang Dal and PFI and said it will take decisive action as per law including imposing a ban on any organisations which promote enmity and hatred.

The manifesto was released by party chief Mallikarjun Kharge in the presence of senior state leaders.

The party said it will increase the quota limit from 50 per cent to 75 per cent for all castes based on population.

The party also promised to release the Socio-Economic caste census and accord social justice accordingly.

The Congress said it will ensure 80 per cent of jobs in Karnataka to local people in both the public and private sectors.

The party has promised a start-up fund of Rs 10 crore to each constituency.

Karnataka will go to Assembly polls on May 10 and the counting of votes will take place on May 13.

Hyderabad: Asaduddin Owaisi voices opposition to encounters

    [ad_1]

Hyderabad: AIMIM president Asaduddin Owaisi on Friday raised concerns about the legality of the alleged encounter that led to the death of gangster-politician Atiq Ahmad’s son Asad and an accomplice in Uttar Pradesh.

Talking to reporters here, he said there would be an inquiry as per the Supreme Court guidelines, but that “so-called encounters should not take place”.

“Indeed, whether it is Umesh Pal or Raju Pal, we have sympathy for them. Because, those people were murdered. How can we support those who committed the murder? But, there is a process, law, Constitution. You get them punishment. Who is stopping you? You get them life (imprisonment),” he said.

He was referring to media reports that raised questions on the alleged encounter.

“That’s why I am saying encounter should not happen. We are not supporting any mafia don. But we were against encounters and will remain against so-called encounters,” he said.

Asked about Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath’s reported remarks that the mafia would be destroyed, he said that the said mafia could be destroyed by putting them behind bars.

Owaisi also said local body polls were scheduled to happen in May in Uttar Pradesh but did not elaborate.

The AIMIM chief recalled that encounters of those involved in Left wing wxtremism used take place in undivided Andhra Pradesh in the 1990s and that he used to speak against those encounters in the Legislative Assembly.

He said he felt that people’s faith in the Constitution had declined due to encounters, which are extra-judicial killings. “Rule of law gets weakened with encounters,” he said.

“My consistent stand has been that I have been against encounters, and spoke on it,” he said.

Recalling that shots were fired at his vehicle one year ago, he said he did not seek the encounter of those who fired the shots but spoke against those who were behind them.

Gangster-politician Atiq Ahmad’s son Asad and an accomplice, both wanted in the Umesh Pal murder case, were shot dead in an exchange of fire with the Uttar Pradesh Police near Jhansi on Thursday, officials said.

Attacking the BJP for conducting encounters “in the name of religion”, Owaisi on Thursday sought to know whether those who burnt to death the two youth in Haryana would also be killed in an encounter.

BJP will face defeat in Telangana Assembly election: Asaduddin Owaisi

    [ad_1]

Mumbai: All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) chief Asaduddin Owaisi on Saturday stated that the Bharatiya Janata Party would see defeat in Telangana in the upcoming election like the previous ones.

Attacking the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), the AIMIM chief said that if the regional parties come together, BJP can be defeated.

“In Telangana, BJP lost the 2014 and 2018 elections. This year also in December 2023 BJP will lose the Telangana elections again. Give us some credit for that,” Owaisi said.

The AIMIM chief also said that it would contest the next Lok Sabha elections from Aurangabad and also look into the possibility of an alliance with other political parties for the upcoming elections.

Owaisi said, “We will contest the next Lok Sabha elections from Aurangabad and other seats and look into the possibility of an alliance with some other parties. It’s a bit early to comment on with whom we will go in the next elections.”

Hitting out at the Rajasthan government (Congress) on the Bhiwani killing, the AIMIM chief said, “Some are spreading hatred against the Muslim community but no action against them. Rajasthan government can attend Bharat Jodo across the country, Royal wedding in Alwar but they can’t go to the place where Junaid and Nasir were killed.”

Earlier on February 23, AIMIM Chief said, if Junaid & Nasir were not Muslim, Ashok Gehlot would have rushed there till now. Unfortunately, Congress was busy attending a royal wedding in Alwar when the Bhiwani killings happened.

On February 16 (Thursday) morning Haryana Police recovered two charred skeletons inside an SUV car near Barawas village in Haryana’s Bhiwani district. The car had also been set on fire.

The Rajasthan Police booked a Bajrang Dal member Monu Manesar for his alleged involvement in the matter triggering a protest by the Hindu outfits including VHP. The FIR also named some other VHP leaders for alleged kidnapping and thrashing the two victims from Rajasthan who were found dead in Bhiwani and were later identified as Junaid and Nasir. It was alleged that the two were involved in cow smuggling.

Asaduddin Owaisi raises concern over Assam govt’s crackdown against child marriages

    [ad_1]

Hyderabad: All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) chief Asaduddin Owaisi on Saturday raised concern after the Assam government’s crackdown against child marriages.

Addressing a press conference here on Saturday, the Hyderabad MP said, “What will happen to those girls who have been married? The Assam government has booked 4000 cases and is talking of booking 4000 more. So, who will take care of those girls? You are putting a mountain of troubles over them.”

“You are in the government for six years, so it is a failure of the state. Why haven’t you built more schools in the state,” he added.

He further accused the BJP of being “biased” and alleged that the government is not giving land to people in Lower Assam.

“This government is biased against Muslims. They gave land to landless people in Upper Assam but didn’t give the same to people in Lower Assam, instead are evicting people in huge numbers,” he said.

The AIMIM chief also raised concern over the adjournment of Parliament for the second day in a row.

“We want to raise certain issues in the Parliament, but the government is not letting the Parliament function. It is benefitting them as they are able to get away with the questions,” he further said.

Notably, considering a surge in cases of child marriage (below the age of 18 years) of Assam women as reported by the National Report of the fifth round of the National Family Health Survey (NFHS-5), the Himanta Biswa Sarma-led State government is carrying the crackdown against child marriages.

As per the latest development, Assam police have arrested 2258 people, across the state, involved in child marriage incidents.

Police said they have a list of 8,000 accused and as the drive continues, the figures will increase.

The drive was launched on Thursday night after CM Himanta Biswa Sarma chaired a video-conference meeting with senior officials of the police department directing them to launch a crackdown to rid the state of the evil practice of child marriage.

This episode of this slew of crackdowns dates back to May 5, 2022, when the Health Ministry released the fifth report of the National Family Health Survey (NFHS-5), carried out in 2019 and 2020.

The report, following a fine and detailed reading by the Assam government, showed serious concerns regarding child marriage, teenage pregnancy, and maternal mortality.

It was found in the report that 31.8 per cent of women in Assam between 20-24 age were married at a minor age or before 18 years. This was even higher than the national average of 23.3 per cent.

Of these 31.8 per cent of women, more than half (50.8 per cent) cases were from All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF) MP Badruddin Ajmal’s parliamentary constituency, Dhubri.

As per the government, child marriage leads to teenage pregnancy in women causing maternal deaths in the state.

According to the Assam police data, 139 people have been arrested in Biswanath, 126 in Dhubri, 120 in Baksa, 114 in Barpeta, 97 in Nagaon, 96 in Hojai, 94 in Kokrajhar, 87 in Bongaigaon, 79 in Karimganj, 76 in Hailakandi, 72 in Cachar, 72 in Goalpara district in cases related to child marriage.

Director General of Assam Police (DGP) GP Singh, while addressing a press conference on Friday, said that 4,074 cases related to child marriage have been registered at different police stations across the state.

Meanwhile, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma informed that the crackdown against child marriages in the state would continue in the coming days.
