    Hyderabad: The Hyderabad police arrested a Kolkata-based gang consisting of four members who are allegedly involved in preparing fake bank guarantees and seized two cheques, five mobile phones, and 60 fake bank guarantees from them.

    The persons who are arrested are Godishala Naga Raju, 45 years, advocate and loan agent from Warangal, Naresh Sharma, 52 years of Rajasthan, Nilotpal Das, of Kolkata, West Bengal, and Subhrajit Ghosal, 31 years a resident of Kolkata, West Bengal.

    Sneha Mehra, DCP (Cybercrimes) Hyderabad said generally for awarding a government contract during documentation to assess the credibility of the applying company bank guarantees are sought from the company.

    In the detected case Harshitha Infra Engineering Private Limited awarded a Bio-Mining contract in Karimnagar Smart City Corporation Limited for which Rs. 1 Crore Bank Guarantee was sought Subsequently, Harshitha Infra Engineering Private Limited also awarded 11 bio-mining contracts by Director of Municipal Administration and the company had to submit bank guarantees Rs. 2.25 crores.

    Nagaraju had acquaintance with the victims Prajwel and Sandeep Reddy of Harshitha Infra Engineering and told them that bank guarantees will be provided on a commission basis.

    Nagaraju contacted Naresh Sharma from Jaipur, Rajasthan who in turn contacted Nilotpal Das and Subrajit Ghosal from Kolkata, West Bengal who had been the mastermind behind the fake bank guarantee document racket operating from Kolkata, West Bengal,” the official said.

    “Nilotpal Das reached out to the company through his friend Naresh Sharma and supplied fabricated bank guarantee documents by charging a 14 percent commission on the BG amount. Each person in this network takes a percentage of the commission. Nilotpal Das and Subrajit Ghosal prepared 12 fake bank guarantee documents for a total worth of Rs. 3.25 crores by using fabricated letters in the name of IndusInd Bank, Park Street Branch, Kolkata, West Bengal, and collected Rs. 47 Lakhs as commission for this work,” said Sneha Mehra.

    Nagaraju also took two cheques worth Rs. 1.1 Crore as security from Harshitha Infra Engineering Pvt Ltd. The company submitted them to Karimnagar Smart City Corporation Ltd and the Director of Municipal Administration, Hyderabad. The advocate had created a fake website and fake name of the IndusInd Branch.

    “When the concerned authorities cross-checked by sending email to the website specified on the bank guarantee documents, the accused responded by sending return fake mail confirming the genuineness of the documents. But when the hard copies of the documents were sent to the specified address for verification, the IndusInd Bank authorities identified them as fake documents and reported the matter to the Police, the DCP added.

    Nilotpal Das and Subhrajit Ghosal prepared fake bank guarantee documents on several occasions in the past in the name of IndusInd Bank and other banks in different states. During the preliminary investigation, it was found that the accused Nilotpal Das and Subhrajit Ghosal have prepared about 60 fake bank guarantees worth Rs. 45 Crores of IndusInd Bank, Bank of India, and Punjab National Bank, and the same has to be probed further.

    Bengaluru: The Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) has arrested seven passengers, including a woman, for allegedly smuggling 18 endangered animals in their baggage at the Kempegowda International Airport in Bengaluru a few days ago.

    Initially, three people were arrested. Their interrogation resulted in the arrest of four more people, the DRI said in a statement on Friday.

    The recovered animals include extremely rare and threatened species like the Yellow and Green Anaconda, Yellow Headed Amazon Parrot, Nile Monitor, Red Foot Tortoise, Iguanas, Ball Pythons, Alligator Gar, Yaki Monkey, Veiled Chameleon, Racoon Dog, White Headed Piones, etc. which were handed over to Bannerghatta Biological Park, according to the DRI.

    The passengers had arrived from Bangkok (Thailand) at the airport on January 22 when their baggage was checked following a tip-off and the animals were found in it, the DRI said.

    “Upon examination of their checked-in baggage, it resulted in the recovery of 18 non-indigenous animals (four primates and 14 reptiles) with the assistance of Karnataka Forest Department officials,” the statement said.

    The import of wild animals, including their parts and products as defined in the Wildlife (Protection) Act, 1972 is prohibited.

    The quick follow-up action with the assistance of Forest Department officials and an officer from Chennai, resulted in the recovery of another 139 animals belonging to 48 different species, including 34 CITES-listed species from a farmhouse in Bengaluru used as a place of storage of similarly smuggled wildlife, the DRI said.

    “Those in possession of these animals neither had any documents of the wildlife items nor any filings under Ministry of Environment Forest and Climate Change (Wildlife Division), Voluntary Disclosure Scheme till its extended deadline of March 2021 were available,” the statement read.

    However, evidence of financial transactions to source non-indigenous wildlife through the route of smuggling, transactions on WhatsApp, and other social media platforms have been unearthed, it added.

    SRINAGAR: Police on Saturday said that two persons, projecting themselves as political activists, were arrested for allegedly duping people on the pretext of providing government jobs in Pattan area of north Kashmir’s Baramulla district.

    “On January 11, Police received information that two self-styled political activists from Pattan area are demanding money on the assurances that they will arrange government jobs and are providing fake appointment orders and are also threatening the general public,” news agency GNS quoted  police statement as having said.

    Police swung into action and promptly registered a case under relevant sections in police station Pattan, the statement said.

    “During course of investigation, Police after utilizing all technical and human intelligence and strenuous efforts arrested two accused namely Ubaid Nazir Sofi and Mohammad Iqbal.”

    Police said that it was learnt during interrogation that these “scamsters were cheating common people on the pretext of giving jobs in police department and taking huge amount of money from them.”

    “Once the victim started asking money back, they used to issue threats to them. Further investigation into the matter is on,” it added.

    Hyderabad: One interstate attention diversion offender involved in diamond exchange was arrested on Thursday by the Afzalgunj police and 64 carets of diamond was recovered from him.

    The accused was arrested Sections 420 ( Cheating and dishonestly inducing delivery of property) and 379 (Punishment for theft) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and recovered diamonds worth Rs 18 lakh.

    Mohammed Ruhila (31), the victim, runs a gem stones business in Karnataka and has been a habitual offender. On 25th night, at 8:30 pm, the police officials received a complaint in which Ruhila stated that his brother was robbed in Hyderabad’s Ambika lodge, in Afzalgunj.

    The accused initially agreed to purchase the diamond packet. Much later on, the victim’s brother, who was in possession of the diamonds realised that the diamonds in his bag were not genuine.

    The accused were arrested in 24 hours and the property was recovered.

    New Delhi: A man was arrested for allegedly falsely tweeting that a flight going from Dubai to Jaipur had been hijacked, police said on Thursday.

    The incident took place on Wednesday.

    Moti Singh Rathore, a resident of Nagaur in Rajasthan, arrived at the Indira Gandhi International Airport after a Dubai-Jaipur was diverted to Delhi due to bad weather, Deputy Commissioner of Police (airport) Ravi Kumar Singh said.

    The flight landed at 9:45 am and was given clearance to depart at 1:40 pm. Meanwhile, Rathore tweeted “flight highjack”, the police said.

    Rathore was offloaded from the flight with his bag and the flight was allowed to leave after the necessary checks. He was handed over to the local police for further action, they said.

    The accused told police that he posted the tweet as he was frustrated over the flight being stranded, they added.

    A case was registered in the matter and Rathore was arrested, the police said.

    Hyderabad: Around ten kilograms of ganja was seized from two people here following their arrest by the Hyderabad Commissioner’s Task Force south team and the Chatrinaka police on Thursday. Police also seized two mobile phones and a motorcycle.

    On a tip-off, the police caught Chandan Naveen, 32, a resident of Sun City Bandlaguda and Sultan Malik, 26, a resident of Nampally, who are both natives of Madhya Pradesh.

    Task Force DCP G Chakaravarthy stated that Naveen and Malik went to Malkangiri in Odhisa State and met one man Babulal who supplied about 10 kilograms of ganja.

    “Both of them returned to Hyderabad and were on their way to sell it to some persons when we caught them at Chatrinaka and seized the ganja. They confessed that the ganja was bought for sale to local consumers at a high price,” the senior police official said.

    A case is registered against them at Chatrinaka police station under the NDPS Act.

    The incident occurred at Meenadom in Kottayam and its video went viral after it taken by the wife of the accused Kochumon, 48.

    Kochumon’s wife sent the video to the local village council member who, in turn, informed police. Kochumon, found drinking at the local bar, was arrested.

    On numerous occasions, Kochumon’s neighbours warned him against lifting his hand on his aged mother, but in vain.

    But his wife, unable to stand her husband’s behaviour, finally acted and to curb his misdeeds.

    Hyderabad: Police arrested two persons for criminal conspiracy and possessing deadly weapons here on Wednesday.

    According to police, the accused – 24-year-old Mohd Faiz Khan from Yakutpura and 25-year-old Mohd Mohsin from Talabkatta were arrested while they were moving near Roshan Dairy Chanchalguda with a big knife.

    On being interrogated, the two confessed to plotting murder against one Khader.

    “Faiz wanted to kill Khader to avenge the murder of his friend Chacha. He is involved previously in three criminal cases in Dabeerpura and Malakpet,” said G Prasada Rao, ACP Mirchowk.

    Mohsin is involved in theft cases in Malakpet, Afzalgunj and Chaderghat police stations. A case has been registered.

    Hyderabad: The Hyderabad Narcotic Enforcement Wing (H-NEW) and Bahadurpura police arrested a foreign national drug peddler on Tuesday and seized 5 grams of cocaine and one cell phone from his possession.

    The drug peddler, Emmanuel Osandu, is a native of Nigeria. In 2016, he came to India on a student visa and resided in Mumbai.

    To earn easy money, he initially started supplying cocaine to needy consumers.

    Previously, he was arrested from Goregaon in December 2020 under the NDPS Act. After being released from jail, he started getting the drug from Level Arum, a dealer and supplying it to the local peddlers. On the advice of a local peddler, he arrived in the city on January 24, said the press release.

    The officials arrested Osondu when he was waiting for the drug delivery at Bahadurpura.

    An investigation is underway to identify the local peddler and the consumers.
