    Hyderabad: A 28 year old habitual offender was arrested by the Neredmet police on Sunday for criminal trespassing into a house and intimidating the victim with a sword.

    The accused, Bodusu Kalyan demanded cool drinks free of cost and when the complainant refused to comply with the demand, the accused pelted him with cement bricks. As a result, the complainant and her son suffered injuries on parts of their body.

    In a separate case, a victim went to Vinayak Nagar to bring breakfast to his wife when the accused Kalyan noticed him and wrongfully restrained him. Further, the accused assaulted the complainant with his hands and kicked with legs. The accused extorted the amount of Rs 2300 from the pocket of complainant by showing a sword with dire consequences of life threat.

    Bodusu Kalyan is habitual offender and has earlier been involved in several criminal cases such as physically hurting, trespassing property and such. A rowdy sheet was opened against him at Neredmet police station.

    Kalyan has been arrested for his role in the above two cases and is being produced before the court. He has been booked under several sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and the Indian Arms Act.

    Guwahati: The Assam Police continued with its crackdown on child marriage in the state for the third day in a row, with the number of arrests touching 2,278 on Sunday.

    A police statement said the arrests were made based on 4,074 FIRs across the state.

    At least 139 people have been apprehended in Biswanath, followed by 130 in Barpeta and 126 in Dhubri, the statement said.

    Other districts where over 100 arrests have been made are Baksa (123) and Bongaigaon and Hojai (117 each), it maintained.

    Dhubri registered the highest number of FIRs against child marriages at 374 cases, followed by Hojai at 255 and Morigaon at 224.

    Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma had on Saturday asserted that the drive against child marriage will continue till the next assembly elections in 2026.

    He had said parents involved in underage marriages are currently being let off with a notice.

    The CM added that men marrying girls below 14 years of age will be facing non-bailable charges, while those marrying girls between 14 to 16 years of age will be charged under bailable sections.

    The state cabinet had recently approved a proposal to book men who have married girls below 14 years of age under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.

    Cases under the Prohibition of Child Marriage Act, 2006 will be registered against those who have married girls in the 14-18 years’ age group, the cabinet decided.

    The offenders will be arrested and the marriages declared illegal.

    If the groom is below 14 years of age, he will be sent to a reform house.

    Assam has a high rate of maternal and infant mortality, with child marriage being the primary cause, according to reports by the National Family Health Survey (NFHS.

    An average of 31 per cent of marriages registered in the state are in the prohibited age group, the NFHS had noted.

    Nadiad: The police have arrested two persons for assaulting an employee at Bank of India’s (BOI) Nadiad branch.

    Manish Dhangar is serving as an officer with the Bank of India’s Nadiad-Kapadwanj branch, handling the loan desk.

    In his complaint, Dhangar said, “On Friday afternoon, a customer named Samarth Brahmbhatt reached the branch and started beating me. He slapped me three to four times and even kicked me. When the other staff tried to intervene, Samarth’s friend Parth, who was accompanying him, kicked me.”

    According to Dhangar, Samarth was angry with him and the bank because repeated calls were made to him to submit a copy of his house insurance policy.

    Samarth had threatened over the phone that he will not submit the insurance policy.

    Samarth had taken a home loan from the bank. During the audit, it was found that the customer had not submitted his house insurance policy, which was required since the house was not mortgaged with the bank.

    The police have arrested both accused persons.

    Haridwar: Three people, including an Uttarakhand Public Service Commission official, were arrested on Saturday in connection with last year’s assistant and junior engineers (AE/JE) recruitment exam paper leak case, police said.

    They were among nine people named in an FIR lodged on Friday at the Kankhal police station in connection with the case, Senior Superintendent of Police Ajay Singh said.

    The three were identified as Sanjeev Kumar from Bihar and Nitin Chauhan and Sunil Saini from the district’s Manglaur and Laksar, respectively, he said.

    Kumar is a section officer in the Uttarakhand Public Service Commission, Singh said.

    Rs 7 lakh cash and blank cheques of several banks have been seized from them, the SSP said.

    The accused told the SIT during interrogation that Rs 28 lakh was taken for leaking the question paper, the police official added.

    Accused Chauhan and Saini had also earned profits from many candidates in lieu of the papers, he said.

    The examinations were held in June 2022.

    Hyderabad: Three members of an online cricket betting gang were arrested by the Commissioner’s Task Force along with the Shahinayathgunj police on Friday.

    A total amount of Rs 12,05,000 and four cell phones were retrieved from the accused.

    Out of ten, a total of three people were arrested while seven others are absconding currently.

    The prime accused Vikas Agarwal, a bookie based out of Barkatpura was suffering from a financial crisis and hence took to betting through online applications.

    He then came in contact with Mahendra Patel and Rajendra Patel and all three of them organised betting via web applications ie. Radhe Exchange Goshamahal, Hyderabad by obtaining an online cricket betting line from Sagar, a resident of Mumbai.

    On February 1, they started online cricket betting by using cell phones for the 3rd India vs New Zealand T20 match at Ahmedabad with known punters by betting amounts and earning money illegally.

    The arrested accused and seized money and phones were handed over to the Station House Officer (SHO) of the Shahinayathgunj police station for further action.

    Panaji: Police in Goa on Friday arrested a man for allegedly possessing recreational drug amphetamine worth Rs 1,20,000.

    According to police, the man, identified as Vinod Kayalvarath, was arrested during a raid conducted in North Goa by the Crime Branch.

    The 47-year-old accused is from Bardez.

    “He was found in possession of one transparent polyphone bag containing in it white colour crystalline substance suspected to be amphetamine, weighing 08.00 grams, valued at Rs 1,20,000,” a senior police official said.

    A case is registered under the NDPS Act 1985.

    SRINAGAR: Police and Army in a joint operation recovered a huge cache of arms and ammunition from the possession of six militant associates, now arrested, belonging to militant outfit Jaish-e-Muhammad, in south Kashmir’s Kulgam district, a police spokesperson said.

    “On the basis of specific information regarding carrying out of subversive activities in Mirhama and Damhal hanjipora area of district Kulgam a major breakthrough was achieved by the arrest of six militant associates in joint operation of Kulgam police and 9RR and huge cache of arms and ammunitions were recovered on the instance of the accused,” news agency GNS quoted police spokesperson as having said.

    The apprehended person have been identified as; Shahid Ahmad Padder alias Jeela, son of Ghulam Ahmad Padder resident of Mirhama, Ubaid Ahmad Itoo son of Mushtaq Ahmad Itoo, resident of Mirhama, Danish Ahmad Dar son of Azad Ahmad Dar resident of DH Pora, Nawaz Ahmad Ganie son of Mohd Abdullah Ganie resident of Dangerpora, Aabid Mushtaq alias Raju son of Mushtaq Ahmad Naik resident of Mirhama and Kifayat Ahmad Lone alias Rinku son of Mohd Maqbool Lone resident of Mohammad Pora.

    The details of the recovered arms and ammunition on the instance of accused, as per the statement include: Pistol 01, Pistol Magazine 01, Pistol Rounds 18, Hand Grenade 01, UBGL Shell 04, Mortar shell 02, AK 47 Rounds 30 Rounds, M4 Rounds 446 Rounds, M4 magazines 08, AK 47 Magazines 01, Insas Magazine 01, Wireless Set 01, Walky Talky 04 and other incriminating materials.

    “During preliminary investigation it surfaced that the militants were affiliated with the militant outfit JeM and were in touch with militant handlers via various social media platforms. The arrested accused were hell bent to vitiate the peaceful atmosphere in district Kulgam by way of carrying grenade attacks, intimidating innocent civilians, standoff fire attacks on PRI members, minority communities etc.”, reads the statement.

    “In this connection Case with FIR No. 01/2023 under relevant sections of law has been registered in Police Station DH Pora. Further investigation of the case is in progress to expose the broader conspiracy”, the statement further read.

    Quoting official sources news agency GNS reported that a joint team of Police and army busted a Jaish Module by arresting 6 JeM militant associates including two Juveniles.

    He further said that during searches one pistol with 23 rounds, Cordtex explosive, 11 magazines, 446 rounds of Insas/M-4 Rifle, 30 AK rounds, one Chinese grenades, 4 UBGL grenades, 2 Rocket Shells, 4 Walkie-talkie, 1 wireless set, 2 chargers and a Magazine pouch was recovered.

    Official sources told the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) a search operation was launched in Mirhama village during which huge cache of arms and ammunition including six magazines, four grenades, pistol was recovered.

    Hyderabad: A 21 year old man from Bihar was arrested in Konark Express for possessing ganja (weed) plants in his suitcase on Wednesday.

    At 10:45 am, sub inspector D Ramesh was inspecting the train when a man was found to possess a heavy suitcase. According to the police press note, he was hovering suspiciously under his berth.

    When asked about the suitcase, the man confessed to being in possession of ganja and sold them for Rs 12000 for 12 kgs. The ganja stored in the red suitcase travelled from Bhubaneswar Railway station in the Konark express to Secunderabad railway station.

    The police seized the ganja packets and found that the estimate worth of the weed amounted to Rs 2,40,000. Cops also seized a VIVO mobile phone from the accused.
