Hyderabad: 9 arrested by police in TSPSC exam paper leak case

    [ad_1]

Hyderabad: The Commissioner’s Taskforce of the city police here arrested nine persons for their alleged involvement in the Telangana State Public Service Commission (TSPSC) paper leak case, which led to the cancellation of an exam.

Alleging stealing and leaking of TSPSC (Data Breach) question papers of Assistant Engineers in Town Planning, the Assistant Secretary (Administration) filed a complaint with the Begum Bazaar police. A case of cheating, criminal breach of trust, and conspiracy was registered by Hyderabad. Meanwhile, Task Force officials successfully arrested nine persons for allegedly leaking the question papers.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Task Force P Radha Kishen Rao said that Pulindindi Praveen Kumar, a section officer of TSPSC, is the kingpin of the racket. “He has been working at the TSPSC since 2017 along with A Rajsekhar Reddy, who works as a network expert on an outsourcing basis, to help Telangana State Technology Services. Being an expert at networking, Rajsekhar Reddy has full knowledge of computer systems and IP addresses at the TSPSC,” said the DCP at a press conference.

The duo, according to the Hyderabad police, managed to steal the data from the computer of the confidential section using the IT knowledge of Rajasekhar Reddy. They transferred the data to Praveen Kumar’s pendrive and took a printout of the (civil) exam paper and General Studies paper and handed it over to the other accused Renuka and Dhakya Nayak by accepting Rupees 5 lakhs on March 2.

Later, another amount of rupees 5 lakhs was handed over to Praveen Kumar on March 6 after the TSPSC exam was conducted. Prior to this, Rajeshwar Nayak, who is the brother-in-law of Dhakya Nayak, contacted his cousin by the name of Kethavath Srinivas, a police constable working at Medchal police station. He was asked to purchase the question paper since he was also writing various exams.

However, Srinivas refused to purchase the papers since he was focusing on the Sub-Inspector recruitment. Later other persons Nilesh Nayak and Gopal Nayak who were appearing for the AE (Civil) Exam were also contacted by the prime accused. Rajeswhar Nayak had allegedly taken an amount of Rs.13.50 lakhs from them on the assurance of providing the AE Question Paper.

The police recovered four Pen drives, one Dell Laptop, one Dell Desktop PC and three mobile phones, and other incriminating material from the accused persons after arresting them in the TSPSC scam.

  • US: Indian-origin Sikh leader arrested for plotting to burn down Gurdwara

US: Indian-origin Sikh leader arrested for plotting to burn down Gurdwara

    [ad_1]

New York: A 60-year-old Indian-origin Sikh man has been arrested in the US for allegedly attempting to hire people to shoot multiple people and burn down a prominent Gurdwara in California, according to media reports.

Rajvir Raj Singh Gill, a former Bakersfield City Council candidate, was arrested on March 4 for allegedly targeting one of Bakersfield’s largest Sikh places of worship, Gurdwara Shaheed Baba Deep Singh Ji Khalsa Darbar, and burning down the property, bakersfield.com portal reported.

Gill was arrested in connection with six counts of criminal threats after officers executed a search warrant at his residence, the report said.

The Bakersfield Police Department said in addition to offering someone money in exchange for burning down the gurdwara, Gill tried to pay people to shoot others who he had an ongoing dispute with, 23abc.com portal reported.

Gill had attempted to run for City Council Ward 7 against Manpreet Kaur in 2022. Kaur won the election and was the first Sikh Punjabi woman elected to the Bakersfield City Council, the report added.

Kaur, who won the seat for Ward 7, issued the following statement: “I am aware of the alleged allegations. I am confident the Bakersfield Police department is working diligently to keep our community safe and will address the matter accordingly. Hearing this news is distressing and frightening. This is one of our most highly attended Sikh temples locally. To hear of an alleged attempt to destroy a place of worship is heartbreaking and unfathomable.”

“He hired the people. Those people, whoever he hired, came and told us and they made a report to the police. So, the police called us and they got our information and everything and asked questions and we told them what’s going on, and that’s when everything happened,” said Amrik Singh Athwal, a temple board member.

A Bakersfield Police Department spokesman declined Tuesday to address what may have prompted Gill to take the actions he is accused of, and he would not elaborate on the case.

A temple elder said Tuesday that Gill has in recent months shown up at the property disrupting prayers and threatening members of the congregation and carrying a gun before being arrested at one point. There are no records of his arrest prior to Saturday.

The elder, Sukhwinder Singh Ranghi, attributed the repeated confrontations to a dispute over more than USD 800,000, contributed by members of the congregation, that was supposed to reimburse a corporate entity set up to buy the temple out of foreclosure in July 2020.

“It’s the greed that most likely got to him,” Ranghi was quoted as saying by bakersfield.com.

Ranghi said the temple learned Gill offered USD 10,000 to two Hispanic men to kill certain leaders of the congregation who are involved in the court cases, including Ranghi. He said Gill drove the men around the city pointing out the homes of the temple leaders he wanted to be killed. This information came to temple leadership from an associate of the intended hitmen.

With more than 500 members, Shaheed is one of Bakersfield’s best-attended Sikh temples. It hosts an annual celebration in late October that draws thousands.

  • More trouble for Kuntal Ghosh as 2 arrested middlemen express interest to turn approver

More trouble for Kuntal Ghosh as 2 arrested middlemen express interest to turn approver

    [ad_1]

Kolkata: More trouble seems to be brewing for arrested youth Trinamool Congress leader Kuntal Ghosh, who acted as a middleman in the multi-crore teacher recruitment scam in West Bengal, as two other middlemen arrested in this case have expressed interest to turn approver in the matter.

Sources said that counsel of the two middlemen — Tapas Mondal and Niladri Ghosh — have started initial communication with the central agencies on this count.

However, neither of the two central agencies, the ED and the CBI, has given any indication that they will accept the proposal of the two accused middlemen to turn approver so far.

Explaining that the process of turning approver for an accused is a lengthy one, senior counsel of the Calcutta High Court, Kaushik Gupta, said that Section 306 of CrPC has provisions on this count.

“First, the investigating body has to accept the plea from the accused to turn approver after examining the pros and cons of the development and also the probable future legal complexities arising out of the development. But mere acceptance of the investigating agency does not complete the process and guarantee pardon for the accused turning approver.

“The investigating agency will then seek the permission of the court concerned where the matter is being heard. The judge will take the final decision on this count after recording the reasons for doing so and other legal angles in the matter,” Gupta explained.

On Thursday, a special CBI court had extended the judicial custody of Kuntal Ghosh, Niladri Ghosh and Tapas Mondal till March 23.

  • Three arrested in Bangladesh building explosion case as death toll rises to 21

Three arrested in Bangladesh building explosion case as death toll rises to 21

    [ad_1]

Dhaka: Bangladesh authorities arrested three people in connection with the deadly explosion in a multi-storey building at a crowded area here in the national capital as rescue workers on Thursday recovered one more body from the rubble, raising the death toll to 21.

The “earthquake-like” explosion at the building at Old Dhaka’s crowded Gulistan area on Tuesday also injured over 100 people.

Three people including the owner of the building were arrested and remanded to custody, the Dhaka Tribune newspaper reported.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Mahbub Ahmed on Thursday placed building owner Wahidur Rahman, his brother Matiur Rahman and businessman Motaleb Mintu each on a two-day remand.

Meanwhile, rescue workers on Thursday recovered one more body from the rubble of the building, raising the death toll to 21.

The body was identified as that of a 38-year-old manager of Bangladesh Sanitary situated in the basement of the building, bdnews24 news portal reported.

Firefighters retrieved 20 bodies in the first two days of the rescue mission in the building, which was declared risky in the wake of the explosion.

The cause of the explosion could not be known immediately, but local residents suspected chemicals illegally stored inside the building, mostly used as an office and business complex, might have sparked the blast.

Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan said Wednesday that the country has sufficient expertise to carry out an investigation into the explosion.

A four-member probe body headed by Lt Col Mohammad Tajul Islam Chowdhury, director of Fire Service and Civil Defence (Operation and maintenance), has been formed to look into the cause of the explosion. The committee has been tasked to submit its report within five working days.

Tuesday’s explosion occurred two days after another exposition at a building in Dhaka’s Science Laboratory area that killed three people and injured several others.

Last week, seven people were killed in an explosion at a private oxygen plant in the southeastern port city of Chattogram, injuring dozens of others.
