  • Amit Shah discusses Tripura tribal areas’ issues with Tipra Motha chief

Amit Shah discusses Tripura tribal areas’ issues with Tipra Motha chief

    [ad_1]

Agartala: Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Wednesday held discussions with Tipra Motha supremo Pradyot Kishore Debbarma, in the presence of BJP president J P Nadda, over various issues faced by the indigenous people of Tripura, a senior leader of the saffron party said.

Debbarma, in a Facebook post, said the Union Home Minister has started the process for a “constitutional solution” for the indigenous people of Tripura and an interlocutor for the process would be appointed within a specific time frame.

BJP’s Northeast coordinator Sambit Patra said Shah gave a patient hearing to the issues explained by Debbarma and requested Chief Minister Manik Saha, who was also present in the meeting, to hold talks with ruling ally IPFT, along with Tipra Motha and social organisations, to find amicable solutions to the problems.

To a question, Patra, however, clarified that no discussions were held on political alliance or allocation of cabinet berths to Tipra Motha and the discussion was limited to “tribal welfare”.

“We hope to find a solution to the problems of the indigenous people through a series of meetings,” he said.

Tipra Motha, floated by Debbarma, bagged 13 of the 42 seats it contested in the recent elections to the 60-member assembly, emerging as the second-largest party in the House.

In a Facebook post, Debbarma said, “I thank the Home Minister for understanding the genuine problems of the sons of the soil. We successfully got our Bru people rehabilitated in our state after 23 years by signing the Bru accord and today we have started a huge dialogue to ensure that our survival and existence are protected. Issues such as alliance and cabinet were never discussed, only the interest of our ‘dopha’ (society) was discussed.”

Debbarma, a descendant of the former ruling family of Tripura, had long been seeking a “constitutional solution” to demands by his party for a separate state of Tiprasa.

While the BJP has made it clear that it is unwilling to concede a division of the tiny northeastern state, its leadership has spoken of a willingness to give more legislative, financial and executive powers to the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC), that runs affairs in areas dominated by tribal communities. The Tipra Motha administers the council.

Hyderabad: Telangana Governor Tamilisai Soundararajan on Tuesday interacted with Jan Aushadi Kendra in-charges in the state through video conference and called for opening up of more number of Generic Medicine outlets in tribal areas.

“Many people would have avoided taking lifesaving medicines on a regular basis due to the prohibitive cost of the medicines. The availability of the generic medicines through Jan Aushadhi outlets have helped many to continue regular medication, as the medicines have become inexpensive and affordable,” she added.

Governor Tamilisai thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi for promoting Jan Aushadhi outlets across the country thus drastically reducing the cost of medicines and the burden on the people.

  • In ‘developed’ Gujarat, Tribal areas see spike in ‘underweight’ kids

In ‘developed’ Gujarat, Tribal areas see spike in ‘underweight’ kids

    [ad_1]

The number of malnourished children is becoming bigger in Gujarat, which is regarded as a ‘developed state’.

Gujarat has seen a dramatic increase in the number of malnourished children during the course of COVID-19. In contrast to metropolitan regions, the increase has been more evident in tribal and rural communities.

Women and Child Welfare minister Vibhavariben Dave informed the state House that the tribal area of Dahod had 18,326 malnourished children as opposed to 2236 in the Ahmedabad district in answer to a question posed in the Assembly by Congress Legislator Jignesh Mevani. There are eight times as many malnourished children in Dahod as there are in Ahmedabad, the New Indian Express reported.

In Dahod, there are 18,326 malnourished kids between the ages of 0 and 6 years old. In Dahod, there are 5,101 underweight children, compared to 497 in Ahmedabad.

In the last two years, Dang district has recorded 575 malnourished children, whereas Narmada as a whole had 2,443 malnourished children. The bulk of people in the Dashod, Narmada, and Dang districts are tribal.

Also, 497 children in Ahmedabad are classified as ‘severely underweight,’ while 1,739 youngsters are classified as ‘underweight’ according to statistics made accessible by the government. 13,225 children in Dahod are classified as ‘underweight,’ and 5,101 as ‘severely underweight.’

However, the government blamed COVID-19 for the rise in malnourished children, claiming that “it is currently impossible to ascertain whether the number of malnourished children has increased or decreased” because “most ‘Anganwadis’ (a type of rural child care centre started by the Indian government) were closed on March 2020 and were re-opened only on February 2022 due to the pandemic.”

The response of social workers, according to the report, who have spent years working in Dahod and tribal areas disagree with the government.

  • Can’t permit RSS rally in sensitive areas: TN govt tells SC

Can’t permit RSS rally in sensitive areas: TN govt tells SC

    [ad_1]

New Delhi: Tamil Nadu Government on Friday told the Supreme Court that they are not totally against the RSS route march but can’t permit it in sensitive locations.

Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) on Friday also assured the Supreme Court that it is not going to hold any route march on March 5 in Tamil Nadu as the organisation has decided to postpone the rally.

Senior Advocate Mahesh Jethmalani, appearing for RSS, told the Supreme Court the organisation is not going to do anything till March 11 or March 12.

Senior Advocate Mukul Rohatgi, appearing for Tamil Nadu Government, hence urged the top court to post to March 17. The state government also agreed to present the inputs before the bench in a sealed cover and also the proposed routes.

Tamil Nadu Government also said that they will have a dialogue with the RSS on proposed routes for march as they are not totally opposed of it.

A bench of justices V Ramasubramanian and Pankaj Mithal thereafter adjourned the matter for March 17 for hearing a plea by the Tamilnadu government appeal against the Madras High Court order permitting RSS for its route march in the state.

Senior Advocate Mukul Rohatgi, appearing for Tamil Nadu Government, said that they are not totally opposing the route march and public meetings by RSS across the state but it cannot be permitted in every street and mohalla.

Senior Advocate Rohatgi apprised the court that the government denied holding route marches in the sensitive areas, which have faced PFI incidents and have border areas with disturbances. The lawyer said that the government had had some intelligence reports.

Tamil Nadu Government lawyer submitted the court cannot shut its eye to the bomb blasts in Coimbatore, PFI incidents etc. On this the court remarked that one is a language of democracy and one is the language of power and which language you speak depends on where you are.

The lawyer for Tamilnadu Govt stressed that they are not fully opposed to the procession but to the manner in which it is proposed to be done.

RSS lawyer replied that the ground the state government mentioned is that PFI was banned by Central Govt and it is a threat to the organisation. They are not able to control terrorist organizations and that is why they want to ban the route march, the lawyer said.

Tamil Nadu Government has moved the top court against the Madras High Court order permitting the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) to take out its route march in Tamil Nadu on rescheduled dates.

On February 10, Madras High Court directed Tamil Nadu police to grant permission to Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) to take route marches in various districts across the State on public roads.

Unemployment rate in urban areas dips

    [ad_1]

New Delhi: Unemployment rate, or the percentage of persons unemployed among the labour force, for persons aged 15 years and above in urban areas had declined to 7.2 per cent during October-December 2022 from 8.7 per cent in the same period a year ago.

As per the quarterly data of Periodic Labour Force Survey (PLFS), the unemployment rate in the July-September quarter was at the same level of 7.2 per cent.

Similarly, the unemployment rate for both rural and urban areas in usual status during the year 2021-22 was at 4.1 per cent as against 4.2 per cent during the previous year 2020-21.

Considering the importance of availability of labour force data at more frequent time intervals, the National Sample Survey Office (NSSO) launched Periodic Labour Force Survey (PLFS) in April 2017. The objective of the PLFS is to estimate the key employment and unemployment indicators (Worker Population Ratio, Labour Force Participation Rate, Unemployment Rate) in the short time interval of three months for the urban areas only in the ‘Current Weekly Status’ (CWS).

It also estimates employment and unemployment indicators in both ‘Usual Status’ and CWS in both rural and urban areas annually.
