  • Kurmi agitation: 188 trains cancelled for April 9-10

Kurmi agitation: 188 trains cancelled for April 9-10

    [ad_1]

Kolkata: As the people of the Kurmi community intensify their rail and road blockade agitations in support of their long-standing demand for recognition under the Scheduled Tribe category, the Railways has been forced to cancel as many 188 trains for Sunday (April 9) and Monday (April 10).

The cancelled trains include both local as well as express, including premium trains, like Howrah Duronto Express and Shatabdi Express among others. Of the 188 trains cancelled for these two days, 95 trains were for Sunday, while the remaining 93 trains were scheduled for Monday.

On Saturday also, as many 75 trains in the South-Eastern division of the Railways were cancelled because of the ongoing agitation that started on April 5.

    MS Education Academy

Sources in the Railways said that with these 188 fresh cancellations, the total number of trains cancelled since April 5 will be 496. In addition to that the routes of a number of trains had either to be diverted or curtailed amid the agitation.

Meanwhile on Saturday evening, the South-Eastern Railways authorities sent a communication to the West Bengal government seeking help of the state police forces in removing the railway blockade jointly with Government Railway Police (GRP) and Railway Protection Force (RPF).

State government sources said that a reply to this communique from the South-Eastern Railways authority has also been sent from the state secretariat where the latter clearly said that if the Railways authorities desire, they can take necessary action and the state government will not have any objection to that.

The Kurmi community is agitating in support of its long-standing demand for recognition under the Schedule Tribe category. Their main grievance is that the West Bengal Cultural Research Institute, a state government body that works for indigenous tribes, is yet to recognise the Kurmis as representatives of primitive tribes.

Representatives of the community have alleged that the reluctance of the Institute as well as the state government to send a comprehensive report in this matter to the Union government is hampering the process of recognition of the Kurmi community under the ST category.

Hyderabad: CM KCR to host Iftar dinner on April 12

    [ad_1]

Hyderabad: Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao will host the annual Iftar dinner for the Muslim community at LB Stadium on April 12. He directed his secretary Bhupal Reddy to make the necessary arrangements.

The annual dinner is set to be organised by the state government on a grand scale. Muslim clerics, MLAs, government officials, and general public are expected to join the Iftar party.

Meanwhile, Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) leaders slammed the prime minister Narendra Modi for his ‘parivarvaad’ (dynastic politics) remarks.

    MS Education Academy

Prime minister Narendra Modi on Saturday expressed ‘pain’ at the alleged non-cooperation of the ruling dispensation towards central initiatives aimed at the southern state.

“Handful of people who encourage ‘parivarvaad’ are trying to see where they can reap benefits from projects being implemented for the people of Telangana,” PM Modi said.

Reacting to Modi’s statements about the state’s non-cooperation with Central projects, state finance minister Harish Rao said “Every word is far from the truth. Playing so many lies as the Prime Minister is worth it to him.”

“It is ridiculous for Modi to say that the state government is not cooperating with the Centre. Actually, the situation is reversed. Centre is not giving any support to Telangana by not sanctioning a tribal university, railway coach factory, Bayyaram steel industry, medical colleges, and nursing colleges,” Harish Rao said.

  • After LS disqualification, Rahul’s first public meet postponed to April 16

After LS disqualification, Rahul’s first public meet postponed to April 16

    [ad_1]

Bengaluru: Congress leader Rahul Gandhi’s event, which was supposed to take place on April 10 has been postponed further and now it will be held on April 16 at Kolar, Karnataka Congress unit president D K Shivakumar said on Saturday.

Gandhi had planned to address people on April 10 at the same place where his speech during the 2019 Lok Sabha elections had led to his disqualification from the lower house of the Parliament, Shivakumar told reporters here.

However, due to the Assembly election-related works and the selection of candidates, the party leaders requested he extends it by a week.

    MS Education Academy

“We had requested Rahul Gandhi to extend the public meeting by a week and he gave his consent. Gandhi and all leaders will come on April 16 for the Jai Bharat event at Kolar,” Shivakumar said.

He added that this will be Gandhi’s first public address in Kolar after his disqualification from the Lok Sabha. He also said that Gandhi’s disqualification was an insult to democracy.

“Cancelling the Lok Sabha membership of Rahul Gandhi, who had won with a margin of seven lakh votes, is an insult to the entire democracy,” Shivakumar said.

According to Congress sources, Gandhi’s event was earlier planned on April 5, which was changed to April 6. Then it was again planned on April 9, which clashed with Prime Minister’s Project Tiger event in Mysuru. The date was then rescheduled to April 10 and now once again it has been postponed to April 16.

  • Amit Shah to visit Arunachal village along China border on April 10-11

Amit Shah to visit Arunachal village along China border on April 10-11

    [ad_1]

Delhi: Union Home Minister Amit Shah will visit Arunachal Pradesh on April 10 and 11 where he will launch the ‘Vibrant Villages Programme’ in Kibithoo, a village along the India-China border.

Under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the government of India has approved the ‘Vibrant Villages Programme’ (VVP) with central components of Rs 4,800 crore, including Rs 2,500 crore exclusively for road connectivity for the financial years 2022-23 to 2025-26, a home ministry statement said on Saturday.

The VVP is a centrally sponsored scheme under which 2,967 villages in 46 blocks of 19 districts abutting the northern border in the states of Arunachal Pradesh, Sikkim, Uttarakhand and Himachal Pradesh and Union Territory of Ladakh have been identified for comprehensive development.

    MS Education Academy

In the first phase, 662 villages, including 455 in Andhra Pradesh, have been identified for priority coverage.

The VVP will help in improving the quality of life of people living in identified border villages and encourage people to stay at their native locations, thereby reversing the outmigration from these villages and adding to the security of the border, the statement said.

The district administration, with the help of appropriate mechanisms at block and panchayat levels, will prepare action plans for the identified villages to ensure 100 per cent saturation of central and state schemes. The focus areas of interventions identified for the development of villages include road connectivity, drinking water, electricity including solar and wind energy, mobile and internet connectivity, tourist centres, multi-purpose centres and healthcare infrastructure and wellness centres.

Shah, in his first visit to Arunachal Pradesh as home minister, will on April 10 inaugurate nine micro hydel projects of the state government constructed under the “Golden Jubilee Border Illumination Programme” in Kibithoo. These electricity projects will empower people living in border villages, the statement said.

He will also inaugurate Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) projects to augment infrastructure at Likabali (Arunachal Pradesh), Chapra (Bihar), Nooranad (Kerala) and Visakhapatnam (Andhra Pradesh), it said.

The home minister will also interact with ITBP personnel at Kibithoo in the Anjaw district of Arunachal Pradesh.

An exhibition of products made by members of women’s self-help groups of border districts will also be held. Shah will visit the exhibition stalls, the statement said.

On April 11, he will visit Namti field and pay homage at the Walong war memorial, it said.
