  • Excise policy scam: Sisodia’s judicial custody in CBI case extended till April 3

Excise policy scam: Sisodia’s judicial custody in CBI case extended till April 3

    [ad_1]

New Delhi: A Delhi court on Monday extended Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader and former deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia’s judicial custody till April 3, by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in connection with the now-scrapped excise policy case.

On March 17, the court extended Sisodia’s Enforcement Directorate (ED) custody in the same case till March 22.

After the CBI arrested Sisodia on February 26, the ED also arrested him in the same case on March 9.

On March 6, Special Judge M.K. Nagpal of the Rouse Avenue Court sent Sisodia to 14 days of judicial custody in CBI case, which expired on Monday. He is lodged in the national capital’s Tihar jail.

The court will also hear Sisodia’s bail application on Tuesday, in the same case being probed by the CBI.

During the last hearing in the ED case, the court was apprised by the ED that important details have come up during Sisodia’s custody and he had to confront with other accused persons.

The probe agency had informed the court that voluminous data from Sisodia’s email and mobile, etc. is also being forensically analysed.

Sisodia’s counsel, however, had opposed the central agency’s remand plea saying that there is not a whisper from the agency regarding the proceeds of the crime, which is fundamental to the case.

His lawyer had further contended that there is no justification to seeking extension of custody and that Sisodia was confronted only with four people during his earlier custody of seven days.

The ED had said that they need to unearth the modus operandi, the entire scam and confront Sisodia with some other people.

ED’s counsel Zoheb Hossain, while claiming that Sisodia was part of the “money laundering nexus” had said that the movement of tainted money through hawala channels was also being probed.

Hossain had submitted that the policy was formulated to ensure that certain private entities get huge benefits and that one of the biggest cartels was made to operate 30 per cent of liquor business in Delhi.

Referring to the meetings between restaurants’ association and Sisodia, the had ED alleged that relaxations were afforded to the restaurants in excise policy like reducing the legal age of drinking and other things.

The central agency had argued that Sisodia had destroyed the evidence.

“Within a span of one year, 14 phones have been destroyed and changed,” the agency had claimed.

“Sisodia has used phones purchased by others and SIM cards that are not in his name so that he can use it as a defence later. Even the phone used by him is not in his name,” the ED counsel had submitted.

He (Sisodia) has been evasive from the start, the ED had alleged.

There was a conspiracy behind framing the excise policy. The conspiracy was coordinated by Vijay Nair, along with others and the Excise policy was brought out for extraordinary profit margin for wholesalers, the ED had argued in the court.

Resolve issues or Bandh on April 30: Telangana auto drivers warn govt

    [ad_1]

Hyderabad: Telangana Auto Drivers’ JAC convenor Mohammed Amanullah Khan on Thursday demanded that the state government solve auto drivers’ problems and difficulties, including an increase in auto fares before the inauguration of the new secretariat building fixed on April 30.

“Otherwise, the auto drivers in the Twin Cities would observe a one-day ‘Auto Bandh’ on the day and plan to gherao the building and prevent its inauguration,” they said.

Amanullah Khan announced that the auto drivers in the twin cities would gherao the state secretariat’s new building from 5 am on April 30 and will block all side roads and ultimately prevent the inauguration of the building.

He urged chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao to ‘set his own house on order’ first before stepping into national politics. He wondered how the chief minister would go ahead and inaugurate the new secretariat building which was built with the money of poor people by ‘crushing’ them economically without settling the auto drivers’ pending demands.

The auto drivers pending demands are an increase in Auto meter charges on par with the neighbouring Andhra Pradesh and every auto should be provided Rs 10,000 towards payment of annual insurance certificate charges and other expenses, a ban on bikes and Taxis like in Delhi, ban on registration of new electric autos and instead conversion of all existing autos into electric autos plying in GHMC area with the govt.

“The subsidy, new auto permits should be issued without restriction just like the new permits are issued to Ola, Uber and other cabs without restriction as this would stop black marketing of new autos business going on in twin cities non-stop automatically. Issue necessary guidelines to stop the private auto financiers ever-rising harassment and stoppage of corruption and harassment going on in the transport and police departments,” the JAC demanded.

  • YouTube to remove ‘overlay ads’ on videos from April 6

YouTube to remove ‘overlay ads’ on videos from April 6

    [ad_1]

San Francisco: Google-owned YouTube has announced that the “Overlay ads” ad format will no longer appear on YouTube, starting from April 6.

“Starting on April 6th, 2023, the ‘Overlay ads’ ad format will no longer appear on YouTube to help improve the viewer experience and shift engagement to higher performing ad formats on desktop and mobile devices,” the company said in a YouTube Help Forum post.

Overlay ads are a legacy ad format that is only served on desktops and are disruptive for viewers.

The company said that these ads only appeared on the desktop and expects to see a limited impact for most Creators as engagement shifts to other ad formats.

Moreover, the video streaming platform also mentioned that there are no changes to any of their other ad formats.

Earlier this month, YouTube disabled new posts and comments on its English Help forum as it switches to a read-only mode ahead of “improvements” in the next several months.

“Unfortunately, many threads are not relevant for user-based discussion and a large amount of questions go unanswered. Our goal is to ensure this can be a helpful space for all of you, so we’ll be using this time and these experiments to inform the long-term plan for this forum — more to come,” according to the YouTube Help page.
