Weather Likely To Remain Erratic Till May 7 In JK

SRINAGAR: Meteorological department on Sunday forecast “erratic” weather in Jammu and Kashmir for the first week of May.
“A brief spell of rain may occur in the evening at some places today, although chances are less,” a MeT official said.
On May 1, he said, mainly clear weather is expected while a brief spell of rain/thunderstorm may occur at a few places towards late afternoon or evening (60% chance) .
From May 2- 3, he said widespread light to moderate rain (light snow over higher reaches)//thunderstorm with hailstorm and gusty winds at few places during the period.
Overall weather is very likely to remain erratic between May 2 to May 7.
Regarding temperature, he said, Srinagar recorded a low of 10.5°C against 7.4°C on the previous night and it was 1.2°C above normal for the summer capital.
Qazigund, he said, recorded a low of 7.8°C against 7.2°C on the previous night and it was normal for the gateway town of Kashmir.
Pahalgam, he said, recorded a low of 2.2°C against 3.8°C on previous night and it was 2.2°C below normal for the famous tourist resort in south Kashmir’s Anantnag district.

Kokernag recorded a low of 8.8°C against 6.4°C on the previous night and it was 0.8°C below normal for the place, the officials said.
Gulmarg recorded a low of 1.0°C against minus 0.5°C on previous night and it was 3.2°C below normal for the world famous skiing resort in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district, he said.
In Kupwara town, he said, the mercury settled at 8.8°C against 6.4°C on the previous night and it was 1.0°C above normal for the north Kashmir area.
Jammu recorded a low of 19.6°C against 19.7°C on the previous night. It was 2.3°C below normal for J&K’s winter capital, he said.
Banihal, he said, recorded a low of 8.9°C (0.8°C below normal), Batote 10.2°C (1.8°C below normal), Katra 17.3°C (1.6°C below normal) and Bhadarwah 8.4°C (0.5°C below normal). Ladakh’s Leh and Kargil recorded a low of minus 0.3°C and 3.8°C respectfully, the official said. (GNS)

Rains Relent, Mercury Drops Below Normal In JK

SRINAGAR: Amid decrease in precipitation and forecast for scattered to fairly widespread light rain and thunderstorm in next 24 hours, the minimum temperature recorded a drop in Jammu and Kashmir below normal on Friday.
A meteorological department official said that “mainly dry weather to isolated very light rain and thunderstorm” was expected during two subsequent days.
While there was improvement in rainfall activity, in the last 24 hours till 0830 hours this morning, Srinagar received 0.7mm of rain, Qazigund 14.6mm, Pahalgam 9.0mm, Kokernag 3.2mm, Gulmarg 8.6mm, Jammu 7.4mm, Banihal 5.0mm, Batote 6.2mm, Bhaderwah 8.4mm, Katra 13.0mm, and Kathua 1.6mm.
Regarding temperature, the MeT official said that Srinagar recorded a low of 6.2°C against 7.9°C on the previous night and it was 2.7°C below normal for the summer capital.

Banihal, he said, recorded a low of 5.1°C (below normal by 4.3°C), Batote 6.7°C (below normal by 5.3°C), Katra 13.1°C (5.0°C below normal) and Bhadarwah 6.1°C (2.3°C below normal). Ladakh’s Leh and Kargil recorded a low of minus 2.6°C and 2.2°C respectively, the officials added.

Rains Drench JK, MeT Predicts More

SRINAGAR: Rains continued to lash Jammu and Kashmir even as the weather department here on Wednesday modified its forecast, predicting intermittent rainfall to continue till April 22.
Quoting a meteorological department official, GNS reported that intermittent light to moderate rain was likely to continue at most places of Kashmir and at scattered places of Jammu. However, he said, a significant decrease in rainfall was expected from this evening.
On April 20-22, MeT forecast intermittent light to moderate rain at scattered places. From April 23-25, he said, the mainly dry weather was expected.
Regarding rainfall in last 48 hours till 0830 hours today, Anantnag received 31mm, Kulgam 15mm, Pulwama 29mm Shopian 35mm, Qazigund 50mm, Pahalgam 63.4mm, Kokernag 37.8mm, Srinagar 22.9mm, Gulmarg 51.7mm, Banihal 66.4mm, Batote 29mm, Udhampur 15.8mm, Jammu 17.1mm, Katra 22.2mm, and Kathua 3.4mm.
Regarding temperature, the official said that Srinagar recorded a low of 10.3°C against 11.0°C on the previous night and it was 2.4°C below normal for the summer capital.
Qazigund, he said, recorded a low of 9.2°C against 9.8°C on the previous night and it was 2.7°C above normal for the gateway town of Kashmir.
