DU invites applications from startup innovators, offers incubation

New Delhi: Delhi University’s Cluster Innovation Centre (CIC) is inviting applications from people with startup ideas with “commercial viability” to help them see through their execution.

The applications will remain open till March 13.

“Anybody from the university or in fact outside the university with a promising idea can apply,” said CIC Director Shobha Bagai.

The university is planning to take in four startups and provide them with assistance. No stipend or financial support will be offered, Bagai said.

“We are trying to help these young minds. We are starting startups which have certain ideas but are at the very very basic stage… they need working space and they need a certain mentor to take them to the next step,” she said.

Bagai said the CIC wanted to formalise the initiative hence it advertised the offer. “Mentors will be from our faculty and people from outside.”

Under the initiative, the university will offer co-working space and mentoring support for 3+3 months, Bagai said.

The promoters must have the technical skills for prototyping for converting their idea into a product.

There are certain parameters on which an application will be judged by a committee led by CIC faculty.

“We have already asked them to fill up a form. In that form, they have to give all the details, whether they are receiving any kind of funding and at what stage is their product. We have asked them about the flow chart about their plans,” Bagai said.

The Cluster Innovation Centre – or CIC as it is popularly known – has been designed to seek and derive innovations from industrial clusters, village clusters, slum clusters, and educational clusters.

“Under Cluster Innovation Centre, we used to design an incubation centre funded by the Ministry of Education. There were some successful startups under the DIC.

“During the COVID, these things came to a standstill. We are now restarting that. We are focusing on start-ups,” the director said.

The submission of online applications along with documents started from February 10, 2023

Notably, the Ministry of Minority Affairs on February 6, announced a new Haj policy under which the application forms have been made available for free and the package cost per pilgrim has been reduced by Rs 50,000.

  • Turkey may evaluate NATO applications of Finland, Sweden separately: FM

Turkey may evaluate NATO applications of Finland, Sweden separately: FM

    [ad_1]

Ankara: Turkey could evaluate Finland’s NATO bid separately from Sweden’s bid to distinguish “between a problematic country and a less problematic one,” Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu said.

“If NATO and these countries take such a decision, we, as Turkey, think that we may evaluate the applications separately. But first of all, NATO and these countries have to decide,” Cavusoglu added at a joint press conference with his Portuguese counterpart Joao Gomes Cravinho on Monday.

He emphasised that the alliance and these countries initially requested that the membership process of the two countries be carried out together, Xinhua news agency reported.

Since then, Finland has taken some steps, but there were “provocations” in Sweden, he said.

“We’ve been saying that we have fewer problems with Finland since the two countries’ application process started. It would be fair to distinguish between a problematic country and a less problematic one,” the Minister added.

On Sunday, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said that Turkey may show a different approach to Finland’s NATO bid than Sweden.

“We may respond differently to Finland if necessary. Sweden would be shocked when we respond differently to Finland. But Finland should not make the same mistake,” Erdogan added.

Turkey submitted a list of 120 “terrorists” to Sweden for extradition, he said, adding that the Nordic country must extradite these people in order to join NATO.

Turkey has postponed a trilateral meeting with Sweden and Finland on their NATO bids slated to take place in February following the burning of a copy of the Quran in Sweden.
