I apologize, was driven by selfishness: Cong’s Pawan Khera on his 2022 ‘tapasya’ tweet

New Delhi: Congress leader Pawan Khera on Sunday apologized for his ‘tapasya’ tweet after not getting a Rajya Sabha nomination from his party last year, saying he did so in “selfishness” but has realized his mistake drawing inspiration from Rahul Gandhi who “shuns power” and continues his ‘tapasya’.

Addressing a gathering at the day-long ‘Sankalp Satyagraha’ of the Congress at the Rajghat to protest Gandhi’s disqualification from Lok Sabha, Khera said, “If you try to murder democracy, Rahul Gandhi will speak, be it from inside Parliament or outside it.”

“You (BJP) are afraid when Rahul Gandhi takes the name of Adani, you will shiver when he will do so on the streets,” he said.

Rahul Gandhi belongs to the family that showed the country the way, Khera said.

Referring to his tweet on May 29 last year after his name did not figure in a list of party’s Rajya Sabha nominees, Khera said, “I want to apologize to all of you, to my leadership that in selfishness, when I did not get a Rajya Sabha berth, I wrote that ‘shayad meri tapasya mein kuch kami reh gayi’. Now I see Rahul Gandhi that he shuns power and still continues his tapasya, what could be bigger than that.”

“I apologize to all of you today. I have got inspiration from Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi. It is time to fight, to raise one’s voice, power comes or doesn’t, we will fight and win,” Khera told the gathering with party chief Mallikarjun Kharge and other senior leaders on the dais.

Khera was at the centre of a deplaning row recently when he was arrested after being deplaned from an aircraft and arrested for remarks against Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Gandhi was on Thursday sentenced to two years in jail by a Surat court in a 2019 criminal defamation case over his “why all thieves have Modi surname” remark. He was subsequently disqualified from Lok Sabha.

Norfolk Southern CEO to apologize to Senate for East Palestine wreck

    [ad_1]

The top Democrat and Republican on the committee — Chair Tom Carper (D-Del.) and ranking member Shelley Moore Capito (R-W.Va.) — said Wednesday that they want to hear more about what’s being done to help East Palestine. Carper said that he expects “straight answers” and “accountability.” And Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer said he expects Shaw to “own up to his company’s spotty safety culture, particularly the increasingly apparent pattern of negligence”

Shaw also plans to urge an “industry-wide comprehensive approach, including railcar owners, car manufacturers, leasing companies, equipment makers, and the railroad companies” — suggesting regulators should cast a net much wider than his own company, or even his own industry. He’ll specifically call for changes to certain types of railcars, which the railroads do not directly own.

Shaw will also highlight Norfolk’s new focus on moving away from “efficiency” and profits, and toward something he will call “a more balanced approach to service, productivity, and growth”— which he called a “significant departure from the railroad industry’s recent past.” (These moves were first announced on a December earnings call, where he also assured investors that “other important financial measures, such as earnings per share, Return on Invested Capital, and revenue” would still be paramount.)

Capito made it clear that she’ll also focus on the adequacy of the Environmental Protection Agency’s response to the environmental disaster that the derailment caused. “Personally, I think the EPA failed on risk communication,” she said Wednesday. “There was confusion, there was delayed data and a sense that nobody really cared.”

The committee will also take testimony from Ohio Sens. Sherrod Brown (D) and J.D. Vance (R) as well as Pennsylvania Democrat Bob Casey, who are part of the group of lawmakers pressing forward with a bipartisan rail safety bill.

  • Apologize to Telangana farmers for ignoring them: Sharmila to KCR

Apologize to Telangana farmers for ignoring them: Sharmila to KCR

    [ad_1]

Hyderabad: YSR Telangana party (YSRTP) chief YS Sharmila on Monday came down heavily on CM KCR, for his ‘sinister plot to unconditionally gift Sri Ram Sagar Project waters to Maharashtra.

It is absolutely ridiculous and autocratic on part of the chief minister to openly offer Maharashtra to take Sriram Sagar Project waters. This project is the legacy and lifeline of Telangana, irrigating more than 16 lakh acres, and no one has the right to play with the farmers in this manner.

“How can KCR openly invite them to lift SRSP waters?” she asked, adding that Maharashtra had already built several illegal projects on the river Godavari, locking horns with Telangana in this regard.

“KCR has looted the state treasury and plunged us into a crisis of more than Rs 4 lakh crore debt. On top of it, he has not kept any of his promises. Now he is giving a green signal for the loot of SRSP waters, which are already mired in litigation, sunk by the layers of silt, ultimately leading to the suffering of the north Telangana farmers,” added Y S Sharmila.

“The worst is his reluctance dislike towards the slogan Jai Telangana, the sentiment and the expression that he exploited for decades to come into power, and loot the state. Leave the state of affairs to him, longer and he will even sell Hyderabad and Charminar. As such there are multiple issues with the neighbouring states on river waters,” said Y S Sharmila.

She further added that KCR is an insensitive chief minister who is concerned about the plight of Nanded farmers, but conveniently fails to own 8000 plus farmer suicides in Telangana, during his rule.

This is from NCRB, Police and Rythu Swaraj records. Why isn’t he owing up or speaking on these suicides that are a result of his inefficient rule where all the subsidies were withdrawn, loan waiver was not done at all, last three years saw crop loss to the tune of Rs 3000 crore, but no compensation given, no insurance to farmers aged above 60 years.

“If this is the plight, why won’t the Telangana farmer choose to die? We demand that you give an explanation and apology to the Telangana farmer, before continuing your cheap ‘Ab kee bar Kisan Sarkar’ politics, across the country.” she said.
