Andhra Pradesh: Massive fire in cable supplier company Tirupati

    [ad_1]

Tirupati: Foxlink, cable supplier to global tech giant Apple, halted production after a massive fire broke out at one of its manufacturing facilities here on Monday.

However, there was no loss of life in the incident. Nearly 750 people working at the facility in Jinkalamitta village managed to get out soon after the fire broke out, police said.

Due to fibre, sheets and sponge stocked at the facility, the fire spread swiftly, engulfing the entire facility. The cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained, they said.

At around 1:15 pm, a fire broke out at a Foxlink facility where cables are manufactured, said Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP), Renigunta, A Ramachandra

The timely arrival of fire brigades at the spot ensured that the fire remained confined to one shed and did not spread to the other two that house the dining area and kitchens, Ramachandra said.

“The largest shed among the three was charred, while the other two were safe. The largest shed is where all the production takes place,” he said.

The company is yet to lodge an official complaint as it is still estimating the loss in coordination with the fire and electricity departments, he added.

Pictures of the manufacturing facility shared by police showed thick plumes of smoke billowing from the shed.

Established in 1986, Foxlink designs, makes and sells cable assemblies, connectors, power management devices and battery packs to several global tech behemoths.

It is headquartered in Taipei with over 15 design, manufacturing and sales sites across the world.

  • Andhra Pradesh: How teachers plotted 2022 leak of Class X papers

Andhra Pradesh: How teachers plotted 2022 leak of Class X papers

    [ad_1]

Amaravati: The question paper leak during the class 10 exams in Andhra Pradesh last year had rattled the education authorities with nearly 70 people including 45 teachers arrested for their alleged role in the leak in a few districts.

The management of some private schools in collusion with a few teachers of government schools allegedly tried to help their students score good marks by leaking the papers soon after the papers reached the exam centres.

The teachers on duty at the exam centres allegedly took photos of the question papers and sent them into a few WhatsApp groups within minutes of the start of the exam.

Teachers known to students waited near the exam centres, wrote the answers and sent them back through water boys or others to the teachers inside, who then showed it to the students.

Officials said since question paper leaks before the exams is not possible due to fool-proof measures taken by the Board of Secondary School Certificate (SSC), some unscrupulous elements came out with this new method.

In the past, there were instances of question papers getting leaked before the commencement of the exams.

The SSC exam was held in April-May after a gap of two years due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Over 6 lakh students took the exams.

The leak started with the question paper of Telugu on April 27. Later the question papers of Mathematics and English were also leaked.

The teachers arrested in the case include 36 teachers from government schools. They were booked for criminal breach of trust and under the AP Public Examinations (prevention of malpractices and unfair means) Act 1997.

This was the first time that teachers were arrested under this Act.

“We have taken strict action against those involved. We will take more precautions next time to ensure that such incidents do not recur,” said education minister Botsa Satyanarayana.

The arrests were made in Chittoor, Kadapa and Kurnool districts. In one case the Kurnool district police had arrested 12 persons including nine teachers.

Police investigations revealed that nine teachers from six schools hatched a plan to get the question paper leaked in a bid to get all the 183 students appearing for the examinations from these schools to pass without any difficulty.

They took the help of a school clerk and crafts teacher in getting the Telugu question paper leaked from Ankireddipalli Zilla Parishad High School from where the question paper was leaked through WhatsApp to other school teachers.

It emerged during the investigation that the school teachers tried to help the students with the answers with the help of the invigilators at the examination centres across the six schools.

The case took a political twist when the police arrested former minister and Telugu Desam Party (TDP) leader P. Narayana, founder of the Narayana Group of Institutions.

Narayana was taken into custody by the Chittoor police from his residence in Hyderabad and was brought to Chittoor town.

The Chittoor police had registered a case in connection with the leak of a question paper of the SSC exams. The case was booked after the Telugu question paper was leaked from an examination centre and circulated in a WhatsApp group.

The police had earlier also arrested Balagangadhar of the Narayana group in Tirupati in connection with the same case.

However, a court in Chittoor granted bail to Narayana after dismissing the arguments put forth by the police.

Narayana’s counsel brought to the notice of the court that he resigned from the post of the chairman of the Narayana Group in 2014 and produced evidence in this regard. His counsel told the magistrate that Narayana is currently not involved in the functioning of the Narayana Group of institutions. The police failed to make a case for sending the former minister to judicial custody.

The opposition TDP had condemned Narayana’s arrest and termed it as political vendetta by the YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) government.

TDP general secretary Nara Lokesh termed it an ‘illegal arrest’ and alleged that the YS Jagan Mohan Reddy-led government was victimising the Opposition to cover up its failures. He also alleged political vendetta behind the arrest of Narayana.

However, state government advisor (Public Affairs) Sajjala Ramakrishna Reddy said the state sent a strong and unprecedented message that all are equal before the law.

Sajjala said that the action taken against Narayana was after a thorough investigation. He alleged that Narayana turned copying and other malpractices into an organized crime and emerged as a specialist in encouraging mass copying and question paper leaks to break records in achieving 100 per cent pass percentage.

    [ad_1]

Hyderabad: Criminal Investigation Department (CID) officials conducted a raid at the residence of former Andhra Pradesh minister P Narayana’s daughter in Hyderabad on Friday in connection with an ongoing case.

These raids might be connected to the case related to an FIR filed against the former minister for an alleged paper leak case at the Narayana School in the Chittoor district of Andhra Pradesh.

Earlier, Andhra Pradesh Police registered a case under various sections including 10 AP Public examinations (Prevention of Malpractices), and section 408 (Criminal breach of trust by clerk or servant) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).

In April last year, the question paper for Telugu was allegedly leaked in the school, and when the police found that the teacher clicked a photo of the question paper and shared it over social media, an hour later the exam started.

Former Andhra minister Kanna Lakshminarayana joins TDP

    [ad_1]

Amaravati: Former Andhra Pradesh minister Kanna Lakshminarayana, who resigned from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) last week, has joined the Telugu Desam Party (TDP).

Kanna formally joined the TDP in the presence of the party’s national president and former chief minister, N. Chandrababu Naidu.

Naidu offered yellow colour scarf to Kanna to admit him in the party.

A large number of followers of the former minister also joined the TDP with him.

Kanna started from his residence in Guntur with hundreds of supporters. The procession with a large number of cars reached the TDP office at Mangalagiri.

As per the mahuratam, Kanna joined TDP at 2.48 p.m.

Speaking on the occasion, Naidu said that he heartily welcomes Kanna into the TDP fold. He termed this as a good augur for the TDP.

The TDP chief said that Kanna has a special place in state politics. He recalled that the former minister had become active since his student days to come up in politics.

Naidu noted that Kanna was elected as MLA for five terms and also served as minister from 2004 to 2014.

Kanna quit the BJP last week.

The senior leader, who earlier headed the BJP in the state, said that he was resigning due to the state BJP president Somu Veerraju’s style of functioning.

He recalled that he joined the BJP in 2014 and worked as an ordinary worker.

He said, in recognition of his work, the party appointed him state president in 2018.

He claimed that he visited all 175 Assembly constituencies and announced candidates for the 2019 elections.

A five-time state legislator from Guntur district, Lakshminarayana severed his nearly four-decade association with the Congress to join the BJP in 2014, a few months after the elections.

He served as minister and held various portfolios in the cabinets of Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy, K. Rosaiah and Kiran Kumar Reddy.

  • TDP chief urges people to ‘save Andhra Pradesh’

TDP chief urges people to ‘save Andhra Pradesh’

    [ad_1]

Amaravati: TDP President and former Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu on Wednesday gave a call to the people to join the fight to save the state from the “atrocities” and “destructive rule” of the YSRCP.

In an open letter to the people of the state, he said that the “atrocities” of the ruling YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) are increasing by the day and “the dictatorial attitude” of Chief Minister, Jagan Mohan Reddy, is causing a major setback to the democracy.

“The state government is resorting to violent activities, filing false cases and indecent attacks on the leaders of opposition for questioning the anti-democratic tendencies of the ruling dispensation,” he said.

The Telugu Desam Party (TDP) chief said that the destruction at Gannavaram is the latest and classic example of this. He alleged that the TDP leaders were subjected to severe torture at Gannavaram and their properties were completely destroyed. The affected TDP leaders are projected as the prime accused and were sent to jail, he said and stated that he is writing this open letter only to bring the facts to the notice of the public.

Expressing great concern that there is no security for the properties of the common man in this dictatorial rule, Chandrababu Naidu said that the properties of the poor which they have acquired after struggling for the whole life are now being illegally occupied by the ruling party leaders.

Atrocities against women are on the rise and the state has now become a platform for harassment of the downtrodden and backward classes, he alleged, adding that a doctor who asked for masks during the Covid time was done to death while a Dalit youth who raised certain questions on the liquor policy of the state was mercilessly killed.

He felt that the Gannavaram violence is only aimed at suppressing the voice of the downtrodden sections who are questioning the failures of the state government. The local YSRCP leaders with the cooperation from some police officials created total destruction on February 20 and attacked the TDP office. This is a well-planned and perfectly pre-designed scheme as the YSRCP activists attacked the TDP leaders under the direct supervision of the local police officials, he observed.

False cases were registered against at least 40 TDP leaders and some of them were subjected to torture in the police station, he said in the open letter. Even some women activists too were subjected to various kinds of torture in the custody.

The TDP leaders were sent to jail by registering cases under various Acts, including attempt to murder and Atrocities Act, he said.

The TDP supremo said that the fight is now between democracy and dictatorship and called upon the people to join him to save the State from this destruction. “It is ultimately the people who will be the victims if they do not come forward to save the state and the future generations,” Chandrababu Naidu concluded.
