Andhra Pradesh govt changes name of greenfield seaport in Srikakulam

    [ad_1]

Vijayawada: The Andhra Pradesh government on Sunday renamed the Bhavanapadu Port as Mulapeta Port on Sunday, respecting the sentiments of local villagers in Srikakulam district.

Chief Minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy will lay the foundation stone for the greenfield port on April 19.

Infrastructure and Investments (Ports) Special Chief Secretary Karikal Valaven said the state government took this decision as farmers from Mulapeta and Vishnuchakram villages requested for the name change since Bhavanapadu village has no scope in the proposed port area, considering all the lands of Mulpeta and some from Vishnuchakram have been earmarked for acquisition.

    MS Education Academy

“Hence, the collector of Srikakulam district laid the proposals for renaming Bhavanapadu Port as Mulapeta Greenfield Port, since the total land and the project displaced families belong to Mulapeta and Vishnuchakram villages and not Bhavanapadu,” Valaven said in a statement.

Farmers voiced these concerns during district-level negotiation committee meetings conducted by the Srikakulam district collector.

Consequently, the state government issued an order notifying Bhavanapadu Port as Mulapeta Port with the same limits, including directing the chief executive of AP Maritime Board and Srikakulam district collector to make the necessary amendments.

  • War of words between ministers of Telangana, Andhra Pradesh

War of words between ministers of Telangana, Andhra Pradesh

    [ad_1]

Hyderabad: A war of words broke out between ministers of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh on Wednesday following some remarks by Telangana’s Finance Minister T. Harish Rao about the conditions in the neighbouring state.

Defending his comments made while addressing workers from Andhra Pradesh settled in Sangareddy on Tuesday, Harish Rao lashed out at both the ruling and main opposition parties of Andhra Pradesh for ignoring the interests of people.

The Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) leader questioned the silence of the YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) and the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) on special category status to Andhra Pradesh and the privatisation of Visakhapatnam Steel Plant by the Centre.

    MS Education Academy

Addressing the BRS Athmeeya Sammelanam in Andole on Wednesday, the minister slammed both the parties for not questioning the Centre over its failure to fulfill commitment made to Andhra Pradesh at the time of bifurcation of the state.

Harish Rao said both the YSRCP and the TDP were competing with each other to be in the good books of the BJP-led Union government and hence not raising their voice for special status to Andhra Pradesh, which was a promise made under the Andhra Pradesh Reorganisation Act, 2014. He said both the parties were silent on the Visakhapatnam Steel Plant issue too.

Addressing a programme at Sangareddy on Tuesday, Harish Rao had asked construction workers, who arrived from Andhra Pradesh to Telangana, to enroll as voters here because the state had much better facilities.

Some ministers in Andhra Pradesh took objection to comments made by Harish Rao and asked him what is there in Telangana.

Countering the Andhra ministers, Harish Rao asked them to come and experience Telangana instead of throwing mud and making unnecessary comments against the state.

“Let them come and experience for themselves what is here. Telangana has paddy crops on 56 lakh acres, which was half of the total paddy cultivation in India in the Yasangi season. Telangana is also giving Rythu Bandhu, Rythu Bima, Kalyana Lakshmi, round-the-clock free power supply, KCR Kit and many other schemes, which the Andhra Pradesh government could not even dare to implement,” he said.

Andhra Pradesh’s Education Minister Botsa Satyanarayana, however, questioned Harish Rao’s locus standi to speak about Andhra Pradesh.

“Who is Harish Rao to speak about Andhra Pradesh. Let him focus on his own state,” he said.

“Our people know how to govern the state,” he remarked. The YSRCP leader feels that Harish Rao might have made the comments for political mileage.

Do not put your faith in Jagan: TDP chief Chandrababu Naidu tells people of Andhra

    [ad_1]

Nellore: On a day the ruling YSRCP launched a massive outreach programme under ‘Jagananne Maa Bhavishatyu’ (Jagan is our future), Telugu Desam Party chief N Chandrababu Naidu urged the people of Andhra Pradesh not to repose faith on Chief Minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy.

Naidu made these remarks while addressing a TDP meeting in Nellore and declared that Reddy is not the future of Andhra Pradesh.

“Jagan is not your faith nor…your future,” remarked Naidu, as per a statement issued on Friday night, adding that people have to rethink on the trajectory that the state is moving in.

    MS Education Academy

He observed that the youth are getting addicted to drugs and abandoning activities useful for their families.

During his visit in Nellore, the former chief minister took a selfie in front of some rows of AP Township and Infrastructure Development Corporation (APTIDCO) homes, questioning why these houses are not yet allotted to the beneficiaries and called on TDP leaders to challenge Reddy on what he has done for the people and the state.

Naidu alleged the Chief Minister imposed a burden of Rs 10.5 lakh crore on the people of the state in the past four years, including levying tax on garbage.

He noted that it was the TDP which laid the foundation for welfare in the state when former Andhra Pradesh CM and party founder N T Rama Rao had launched the Rs 2 per kg rice scheme and houses for the poor. Naidu also highlighted the ‘largest’ number of welfare schemes rolled out by his government in Andhra Pradesh between 2014 and 2019.

The Leader of the Opposition highlighted that Reddy has completely neglected the Polavaram multi-purpose irrigation project.

  • Large deposits of 15 rare earth elements found in Andhra Pradesh

Large deposits of 15 rare earth elements found in Andhra Pradesh

    [ad_1]

Anantapur: Hyderabad-based National Geophysical Research Institute has found large deposits of 15 rare earth elements (REE) in Andhra Pradesh’s Anantapur district.

REE of the lanthanide series are critical components in many electronic devices like cellphones, televisions, computers, and automobiles used daily and in various industrial applications.

NGRI scientists were conducting a survey for non-traditional rocks like syenites when they made the significant discovery of the minerals in the lanthanide series. The elements identified included allanite, ceriate, thorite, columbite, tantalite, apatite, zircon, monazite, pyrochlore euxenite and fluorite.

    MS Education Academy

NGRI scientist PV Sunder Raju said, “Zircon of varying shapes was observed in Reddypalle and Peddavadaguru villages.”

“The monazite grains showed high-order multiple colours with radial cracks within grains, suggestive of the presence of radioactive elements, he added.

Raju said that more feasibility studies will be conducted by deep drilling to learn more about these REEs.

“These elements are also used in clean energy, aerospace, defence and in manufacturing permanent magnets — a key component of modern electronics — wind turbines, jet aircraft and several other products. REEs are widely used in high technology because of their luminescent and catalytic properties. The assessment of REEs with implications for metallogeny is now under way at alkaline syenite complexes in AP, NGRI scientists said, as reported by the Times of India article.

Lithium falls in the critical resource category, which was not earlier available in India and we were dependent for its 100 per cent import.

Earlier in February, the Union Government said that 5.9 million tonnes of lithium reserves have been found for the first time in the country in Jammu and Kashmir.

Lithium is a non-ferrous metal and is one of the key components in EV batteries.

Union minister Nitin Gadkari recently said if India can use the recently discovered reserve of lithium in Jammu and Kashmir, it can become the world’s number-one automobile manufacturer in the electric vehicle segment.

Lithium is a light metal. Its density is lower than that of water, so it can actually float. It was not formed naturally on earth but is a cosmic metal.

It points out that some scientists believe that when high-energy cosmic rays slam into heavier elements like carbon and oxygen in interstellar space, breaking them up into lighter atoms, lithium could have been created. In 2020, astronomers discovered that a certain type of red giant stars also become lithium factories at the end of their lives, based on a survey of hundreds of thousands of stars.

Lithium is a highly reactive metal which means that it can hold a lot of energy.

As per reports, using lead-acid technology, it takes 6 kg to store the same amount of energy that a 1 kg lithium-ion battery can handle.

Also, lithium can hold its charge for longer. A Lithium-ion battery loses only 5 per cent charge per month compared with 20 per cent loss in a Nickel Metal Hydride (NiMh) battery. And Lithium can withstand thousands of recharge cycles.
