Israeli strikes kill 13 in Gaza strip; many civilians among dead

Israel’s air strike killed 13 Palestinian civilians including three top commanders of the militant group Islamic Jihad in the Gaza Strip.
The strikes took place in the wee hours of Tuesday when 40 Israeli warplanes and helicopters attacked several places across the Gaza strip, the deadly strike hit homes and created a panic situation among residents.
Following the air strikes, Palestinian health officials confirmed that eight women and children were among the dead people and another had received severe injuries.

“Four children and four women were among those killed in the strike. most of the injured were women and children and many were in critical condition in hospital,” officials added.
Meanwhile, Israel issued a statement and claimed that they had only targeted militants who pose an imminent threat to their citizens.
Israel further stated that Islamic Jihad is a vindictive group and is expected to respond with rocket fire into Israel.
Reports suggested that at least two apartments with their fronts collided down strongly.
Russian representative office located in Palestinian territories announced a Russian citizen named Dr Jamal Khuswan, a former chairman of the Gaza Dentists Association, was also killed in the strike along with his wife and son.

As per BBC reports, Mohammed Khuswan was a prominent dentist and during the Isreal strike, he and his family were inside their home when it was hit by a missile.
Meanwhile, Islamic Jihad’s military wing, the al-Quds Brigades, confirmed the deaths of three of its
Al-Quds Brigades, the military wing of the Islamic Jihad group confirmed the death of three commanders along with their wives and children.
They identified them as Jihad Shaker al-Ghannam (secretary of the al-Quds Brigades’ Military Council), Khalil Salah al-Bahtini (the commander of its Northern Region) and Tariq Mohammed Ezzedine (head of the military action in the occupied West Bank).

Hyderabad girl among nine killed in Texas mall shooting

Hyderabad: A 27-year-old girl from Hyderabad, identified as Aishwarya, lost her life along with eight other people in the Texas mall shooting that took place on May 6, 2023.
She was the daughter of Additional District Judge Tatikonda Narsireddy, who is currently working at the Ranga Reddy District Commercial Courts complex. The incident occurred when Aishwarya was shopping with her friends at the Allen Premium Outlets mall in Texas.

In the shooting, the gunman opened fire at the crowded mall, killing at least eight people before being shot dead by a police officer. The shooting started around 3:30 pm on Saturday, causing shoppers to panic and flee the area. Videos captured shoppers exiting the mall as employees scrambled into storage areas to hide when they heard gunshots.

Witnesses reported some people sheltered in place for up to two hours while law enforcement cleared the sprawling complex.
Governor Greg Abbott called the shooting an “unspeakable tragedy” and stated that the state was ready to offer any assistance to local authorities.
The White House announced that President Biden had been briefed on the shooting and offered support to local officials.

This tragic incident is not an isolated case in the United States, as there have been at least 198 mass shootings in 2023, according to the gun violence archive. It is a growing concern that requires immediate action to be taken to prevent such incidents from happening in the future.
The loss of Aishwarya and the other victims of the Texas mall shooting is a significant tragedy.

8 tourists among 10 stranded near old tunnel in Qazigund, rescue ops launched

Qazighund, May 08: At least 10 people including 8 tourists have got stuck near old tunnel in Qazigund area of Kulgam district when they were on their to Kashmir, officials said on Monday.
An official told the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) that the tourists got stuck near the tunnel due to unexpected snowfall.
“Among the people who have got stuck include 8 tourists from Andaman and Nicobar Islands, driver of the vehicle and its helper,” he said.
Meanwhile, Tehsildar Qazigund Khursheed Ahmad Tantray told KNO that they are stuck on B-Top, which is around 20 km above Jawahar Tunnel.
He said a team has been rushed to the spot to rescue them
Meanwhile, authorities have closed Sinthan Pass road for all sorts of traffic in view of the bad weather predictions, while traffic in plying normally on Srinagar-Jammu highway—(KNO)

Four Grenades, 90 Bullets Among Other Ammo Recovered In JK

SRINAGAR: On Sunday, Jammu and Kashmir Police arrested two Over Ground Workers (OGWs) and seized a large cache of ammunition, including four hand grenades and 90 AK bullets, from their hideout and residences in Mendhar sub division of Poonch.
According to an official, the arrested OGWs have been identified as Mushtaq Ahmed and Nisar Ahmed, who were detained in connection with the ambush attack on an army vehicle in Bhata Dhurian that occurred on April 20, 2022. The case was registered under FIR number 42/2022 of Police Station Gursai, and five army personnel lost their lives in the attack.
After sustained questioning of the accused, an operation was launched by the police based on the disclosure statement of Nisar Ahmed, son of Mohd Shareef, and Mushtaq Ahmed, son of Mir Mohd, both residents of Gursai Moori. The duo has been booked under various sections of the Indian Penal Code, the Explosive Substance Act, the Indian Arms Act, and the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act.
During the search of Mushtaq Ahmed’s house, two Chinese grenades, 30 AK bullets, and one AK magazine, among other things, were seized. Similarly, two Chinese grenades, 60 AK bullets, two AK magazines, and Rs 19,000 cash were recovered from Nisar Ahmed’s house. Additionally, the police found several items from the hideout used by militants.
The police stated that further investigation is underway in the case.(KNO)

Two Women Among Four Electrocuted In Kashmir, Hospitalised

SRINAGAR: Two women among four people were injured due to electrocution after they came in contact with a high-tension line in Lidroo area of Pahalgam in south Kashmir’s Anantnag district on Sunday.
The four victims were immediately taken to a nearby hospital for medical treatment.
The injured individuals have been identified as Mehraj-U-Din Reshi (son of Gull Mohammad) from Veer Siran, Nayeem Ahmad Bhat (son of Sajad Ahmad Bhat), Naseema Bano (wife of Nayeem Ahmad Bhat), and Mubeena Akhtar (wife of Sajad Ahmad Bhat), all residents of Lidroo.

12 Tourists Among 13 Injured In Road Accident

SRINAGAR: Around a dozen tourists and a driver were injured in a road accident in Khudwani area of South Kashmir’s Kulgam district on Saturday.
An official said that one Matadoor Tata LP B/R No. JK21B-0916 driven by Reshi Kumar son of Badri Nath resident of Doda carrying 12 domestic tourists turned turtle near Khudwani kulgam by pass.
In the incident, the driver and around 12 tourists were injureand they have been shifted to hospital for treatment, he said.
Injured tourists have been identified as Areda (09), Neelam (03), Shahea (42), Pinki (34), Nana Saib(62) years, Harshit Atel (40), Manjolae (38), Damander(68), Rohri (31), Kondi Dhumar (60), 11. Bakti (09) and Malhaa Maryesh (07), all residents of Puna.

Couple Among Four Killed In Cloudburst, Lightning Incidents In Kashmir

SRINAGAR: Officials have reported that four people, including a couple, were killed in incidents of cloud burst and lightning strikes at two different locations in the Kashmir Valley on Saturday.
According to a senior police officer, a cloudburst occurred in the Bujbagh area of Pampore in south Kashmir’s Pulwama district this afternoon, resulting in the deaths of Hilal Ahmed Hanji (25) and his wife, Rozia Jan (25).
In a separate incident, officials informed GNS that two people died after being struck by lightning in a high-altitude meadow land in the Mujpathri area of central Kashmir’s Budgam district. The deceased have been identified as Taja Begum, wife of Abdus Samad Chopan, and Mohammad Sultan Chopan, son-in-law of Ghulam Mohammad Chopan of Gurwaith Kalan.
They added that the police have registered cases in connection with both incidents.
