BJP against religion-based reservation: Amit Shah on Muslim quota in Karnataka

    [ad_1]

Bagalkote: Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Tuesday defended the BJP government’s decision in Karnataka of scrapping the four per cent quota for Muslims saying the party never believed in religion-based reservation’.

The former BJP chief also took a dig at Congress for its stand that the quota would be restored if it is voted to power in the state after the May 10 Assembly polls.

“There was a religion-based reservation of four per cent for Muslims. Without falling for the vote bank politics, the BJP government abolished the Muslim reservation,” he said addressing a public meeting at Terdal in this district.

    MS Education Academy

“We believe that religion-based reservation should not happen,” Shah opined.

The Minister added that after abolishing Muslim reservation, the BJP government increased the reservation for the Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, Vokkaligas and Lingayats.

Referring to the Basavaraj Bommai government’s decision to increase the SC reservation from 15 per cent to 17 per cent, Shah noted that the internal reservation of SC (Left) now stands at six per cent, SC (Right)- 5.5 per cent and other SCs 5.5 per cent.

Responding to Congress president D K Shivakumar who has promised to restore the Muslim reservation if his party comes to power, Shah sought to know whose quota the party will scrap if it manages to form the government in Karnataka.

“Whose reservation will be decreased if four per cent reservation for Muslims is restored? Will it be Vokkaligas or Lingayat, Dalits, Scheduled Tribes or the Other Backward Castes?” the Minister asked.

At the fag end of its term, the BJP government decided to abolish the four per cent reservation for Muslims under 2-B category. The four per cent was later split into two and distributed among Vokkaligas in 2-C category and Lingayats in 2-D category.

Vokkaligas and Lingayats are the two major dominant communities of Karnataka. Shah’s statement came on a day when the Supreme Court directed that the state government’s decision of scrapping the quota for Muslims will not be implemented till May 9.

Karnataka will be afflicted with riots if Congress comes to power: Amit Shah

    [ad_1]

Bagalkote: Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Tuesday said if the Congress comes to power in Karnataka, dynastic politics will be at an all-time high in the state and it will be ‘afflicted with riots.’

The former BJP chief also said the development of the state will be in “reverse gear” if the Congress forms the government.
Seeking the people’s mandate for “political stability” in Karnataka, which would vote on May 10, Shah said at a public meeting at Terdal in this district that only the BJP can lead the state towards a ‘New Karnataka.’

“If the Congress comes to power, dynastic politics will be at an all-time high and Karnataka will be afflicted with riots,” added Shah, one of the party’s key poll strategists and campaigners.

“If the Congress comes to power by mistake then corruption will be all-time high and there will be ‘appeasement’,” said Shah, who is on a two-day tour of Karnataka to hold a series of public meetings, roadshows and review meetings with his party leaders.

  • Amit Shah came to create divisions in Telangana: Harish Rao

Amit Shah came to create divisions in Telangana: Harish Rao

    [ad_1]

Hyderabad: Telangana finance minister T Harish Rao on Monday accused Union Home Minister Amit Shah of trying to create divisions in the state. He was referring to Shah’s comments made a day earlier at a public meeting against the ruling Bharata Rashtra Samithi (BRS) government here.

“What did he say yesterday? Did he talk about the Rs 1,350 crores that we were supposed to receive? Did he mention ITIR, Bayyaram steel industry, or national project? He conveniently forgot the one who was involved in the paper leak,” Harish Rao said, according to a press release from his office.

The Telangana finance minister alleged that the purpose of Amit Shah’s visit to Telangana was to create caste and religious divisions among the people.

    MS Education Academy

“The BJP’s claims that they will come to power are an illusion. Will the deposit come from Khammam district? Will they come into power in the state? It’s not possible,” Harish Rao stated. He also alleged that many attendees were brought in from other districts for the BJP rally held in Chevella the previous day.

“No matter how many tricks anyone tries, we are the ones who hit the hat trick. We have a people’s government that is implementing many schemes without a guarantee. Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao fought for the people, and we will continue to do so,” the Telangana finance minister said.

Harish Rao stated that the Telangana government is putting in efforts to provide relief to farmers affected by crop loss due to untimely rains. He said an announcement was made to provide Rs 10,000 per acre for crop loss, and instructions have been issued to the Chief Secretary to assess it.

The minister informed the Sitarama project would provide water for every crop in Khammam district in the coming months.

“Because KCR increased the value of the farmer, the value of the land increased. Farmers should not be discouraged by untimely rains. We have a farmer’s government,” said Harish Rao.

The finance minister said that the state has witnessed a significant increase in the cultivation of the Yasangi crop, from 14 lakh acres in 2014 to 56 lakh acres in 2023. He also mentioned that the government had bought crops worth 26,600 crores last year, as compared to 3600 crores in 2014.

Telangana only state with 100% institutional deliveries

Harish Rao aso praised Telangana as a role model to other states with 100% institutional deliveries for the year 2021 to 2022.

He shared the Government of India’s Ministry of Health and Family Welfare’s Health Management Information System analytical report for 2020 – 21 and 2021 – 22 to buttress his point.

“The futuristic vision of Hon’ble CM #KCR Garu towards maternal health care as part of #ArogyaTelangana is showing results as declared by Central government. Congratulations to doctors, staff and entire health department for putting your best efforts in achieving such tremendous results,” he tweeted.

  • Reservation based on religion unconstitutional, says Amit Shah in poll-bound Karnataka

Reservation based on religion unconstitutional, says Amit Shah in poll-bound Karnataka

    [ad_1]

Hubballi: Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Monday said reservation based on religion was unconstitutional, and asserted that the BJP would implement the quota formula adopted by Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai-led government in Karnataka.

He said BJP has given tickets for May 10 Assembly polls in Karnataka on merits of winnability, and not on the basis of majority or minority, and also nowhere a non-Lingayat candidate has replaced a Lingayat.

Former Chief Minister Jagadish Shettar who recently quit BJP and joined Congress will not win the polls this time, Shah declared, as he pointed out that Hubballi-Dharwad has always voted for BJP.

    MS Education Academy

“I want to assure the people of Karnataka that whatever formula of reservation that has been adopted by the Bommai government, we would implement it on the ground, including the sub category reservation (internal reservation) among the Dalits. This is our promise,” Shah said.

Addressing a press conference here, he said reservation on the basis of religion was unconstitutional, and never would it have “permission” under the Constitution.

About the reservation crossing 50 per cent, Shah said, “it has been challenged in the court, wait for its order.”

Congress leaders are saying that they would once again bring in Muslim reservation. “I want to ask them with utmost humility as to whose would you reduce to bring it back? Whether you would reduce Vokkaligas or Lingayats or Dalits or STs. Congress will have to come out clear on this.”

“Those Muslim community categories that are under OBC, we are ready to give them reservation even today and we are giving, but no one should be given reservation based on religion, it is the fundamental spirit of the Constitution,” he added.

Just ahead of the announcement of polls in Karnataka, the State Cabinet led by Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai had decided to scrap the four per cent reservation for Muslims under the Other Backward Classes (OBC) quota and to distribute it equally among the dominant Vokkaliga and Lingayat communities.

Earlier, the government had decided to increase reservation for SCs from 15 per cent to 17 per cent and for STs from 3 per cent to 7 percent, taking the total reservation in Karnataka to 56 per cent, exceeding the 50 per cent cap, and recommended to the Centre to bring it under the Ninth Schedule of the Constitution.

With a section of Scheduled Castes demanding internal reservation alleging that only a few influential sub-castes were taking away a majority of the benefits while many communities were still marginalised, the Cabinet had also made a recommendation in this regard to the Centre.

Asserting that there is no single instance of a non-Lingayat being given a ticket replacing a Lingayat, Shah hit out at the Congress by asking as to what the party did for the community.

“In their history, Congress made two Lingayats Chief Ministers, both were humiliated and removed, one was removed by Indira Gandhi, while the other was humiliated and removed from airport by Rajiv Gandhi, I’m speaking about Patil Saab (Veerendra Patil), Congress cannot speak on this,” he said, as he added that BJP respects all communities and try to take along everyone.

Asked about family members of politicians getting tickets, while BJP accused JD(S) of parivarwaad (dynastic), the Union Minister said, unlike in JD(S), in BJP party president and Chief Ministers are not decided on the basis of the family. “Tell me someone who is not contesting polls in JD(S) family (Deve Gowda family), other than one or two.”

“BJP is always against parivarwaad in the main system, at many places family members of party karyakartas may contest polls, but it doesn’t mean BJP follows parivarwaad,” he said.

To a question on Muslims not getting tickets from BJP, he said, “Tickets were given on the basis of merits of winnability, we do not believe in the concept of majority or minority.”

Responding to a question on Congress seeking support of Social Democratic Party of India (SDPI), Shah said Congress party earlier used to take the support of Popular Front of India (PFI); now that it has been banned, it is asking support of its SDPI which is the political wing. “For Congress, secure and safe Karnataka is not important, winning elections is important. BJP will not join hands with such parties.”

Jagadish Shettar quitting BJP will cause no loss to the party, he said, adding that “Jagadish Shettar will lose the election, Hubballi has always voted for BJP not to any person. BJP workers are united….reason for him not being given the ticket was conveyed to him.”

Jagadish Shettar is contesting from Hubballi Dharwad Central constituency as Congress candidate.

Owaisi slams Amit Shah over promise to scrap Muslim quota

    [ad_1]

Hyderabad: AIMIM president Asaduddin Owaisi has slammed Union Home Minister Amit Shah over his promise that if the BJP is voted to power in Telangana, it will scrap reservations for Muslims in the state.

Owaisi said while Prime Minister Narendra Modi talks of reaching out to backward Muslims, Shah is promising to remove their reservation.

“Modi allegedly says reach out to pasmanda Muslims, Amit Shah complies by promising to remove their reservation,” tweeted Owaisi

    MS Education Academy

The Hyderabad MP also reminded Shah that reservations for backward Muslim groups are based on empirical data.

“Please read the Sudhir Commission report. If you cannot, please ask someone who can. Reservations for Muslims are continuing under a stay from SC,” Owaisi wrote.

Addressing a public meeting at Chevella near Hyderabad on Sunday evening, Shah had promised to do away with reservations for Muslims.

He called the quota for Muslims “anti-Constitutional” and said that reservation is the right of the Scheduled Castes (SC), Scheduled Tribes (ST) and Other Backward Classes (OBC).

“After the BJP government is formed in Telangana, we will end Muslim reservation. This is the right of SCs, STs, OBCs,” he said.

Owaisi said if Shah was serious about justice for SCs, STs and OBCs, he should introduce a Constitutional amendment to remove the 50 per cent quota ceiling.

This is not the first time that Shah has spoken about removing reservations for Muslims in Telangana.

He made the promise on several occasions in the past and reiterated this in view of Assembly elections scheduled later this year.

Last month, the BJP government in Karnataka scrapped 4 per cent quota for OBC Muslims.

Backward Muslims in Telangana also enjoy 4 per cent reservation in education and jobs. This was introduced by the Congress government in undivided Andhra Pradesh about 15 years ago.

The state’s incumbent Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS)-led government has promised to increase the Muslim quota to 12 per cent.

A resolution to this effect was passed in Telangana Assembly and sent to the Centre five years ago but the proposal has been rejected by the BJP-led government.

Owaisi also took a dig at Shah for repeatedly naming him in his speech while targeting the BRS government.

“Ye ‘Owaisi Owaisi’ ka rona kab tak chalega? Khaali khattey dialog’aan maarte rehte. Please sometimes speak about record-breaking inflation & unemployment also. Telangana has the highest per capita income in the country,” tweeted Owaisi.

The AIMIM chief alleged that except anti-Muslim hate speech, the BJP has no vision for Telangana.

“All they can offer is fake encounters, surgical strikes on Hyderabad, curfews, releasing criminals & bulldozers. Why do you hate people of Telangana so much?,” he asked.

Shah had alleged in his speech that the steering of the ‘car’ (poll symbol of BRS) is in the hands of Owaisi.

He also alleged that the BRS is not celebrating Telangana Liberation Day as it is afraid of Owaisi.

KTR’s sarcastic retort to Amit Shah’s ‘countdown’ attack on BRS

    [ad_1]

Hyderabad: Bharat Rashtra Samithi’s (BRS) working president and state IT minister KT Rama Rao on Sunday challenged Union Minister Home Minister Amit Shah to name one Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) led-state government that has fared better than Telangana in the last 9 years.

Amit Shah on Sunday addressed a public meeting titled “Vijay Sankalp Sabha” at Chevella town in Rangareddy district. Shah asked people to “dismiss” the BRS government in the upcoming assembly election that is to be held later in the year.

Taking to Twitter KTR thanked Shah for laying the foundation for various infrastructure development projects and educational institutions and sarcastically remarked that it actually did not happen.

    MS Education Academy

“I thank Amit Shah Ji on laying the foundation for ITIR Hyderabad, National Project status for Palamuru – RR lift irrigation project, Hyderabad Metro Phase 2, IIM, IISER, IIIT, IIT, NID, Navodayas, Medical & Nursing Colleges. Oh Wait he did none of that,” said KTR in the tweet.

“It is countdown time for the BRS party because we (BJP) are confident of winning the elections. When we come to power, we will end the corrupt rule of KCR and his family. No one will be spared,” said Amit Shah at the public meeting.

In a seemingly indirect warning message, Shah told KCR to work for the development of the state rather than wasting time pointing guns at Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

He charged that policing and administration in Telangana have been completely politicised and welfare measures which are being extended by Prime Minister Narendra Modi are not percolating down to the grassroots.

Telangana being steered by Owaisi, not KCR: Amit Shah

    [ad_1]

Hyderabad: Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Sunday attacked Telangana chief minister K Chandrashekar Rao and the Bharat Rashtra Samithi Party (BRS) government alleging that AIMIM president Assaduddin Owaisi had the “actual reigns” of the state.

Addressing a public rally here on Sunday at Chevella town in Rangareddy district, Shah asked people to “dismiss” the BRS government in the upcoming assembly election that is to be held later in the year.

“No government can run in Telangana whose steering is with Majlis (referring to AIMIM president Asaduddin Owaisi). The government of Telangana will run for the people of the state… It will not run for Owaisi. We will form a government here which will be dedicated to the development of Telangana,” he said.

    MS Education Academy

The rally was attended by BJP Telangana state president Bandi Sanjay along with Eatela Rajender and Union Minister Kishan Reddy. Shah said that he was confident of his party winning the elections.

“It is countdown time for the BRS party because we (BJP) are confident of winning the elections. When we come to power, we will end the corrupt rule of KCR and his family. No one will be spared,” he said.

Shah alleged that since the formation of Telangana in 2014, KCR has failed to fulfil his promises to the people. He spoke about the injustice meted on young men and women referring to the recent TSPSC (Telangana State Public Service Commission) and SSC paper leaks.

“Injustice is being done to the youth in the state, SSC papers are being leaked, and Telangana State Service Commission papers are also being leaked. The future of lakhs of youths has been ruined by the KCR government. These youths are ready to settle your account in the coming elections,” he said.

In a seemingly indirect warning message, Shah told KCR to work for the development of the state rather than wasting time pointing guns at Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

“Whatever time is left, stop committing atrocities and focus on the development and welfare of (the) people. We are not scared of you. If you put our men in jail, we will fight back,” Shah said.

KCR has taken a very compatible stand against the Central Government over the last two years on a host of issues. The chief minister and his party have held several protests against the Modi government as well.

No link between CBI summons and Satyapal Malik’s allegations: Amit Shah

    [ad_1]

Bengaluru: Union Home Minister Amit Shah has said that former Jammu and Kashmir Governor Satyapal Malik has been called by the Central Bureau of Investigation “for third time” as part of the investigation in an alleged insurance scam and noted that there was no relation of the summons and his allegations against BJP-led government.

Amit Shah said the BJP government has not done any such thing which needs to be hidden from people. He said if certain remarks are made for personal, political self-interest, those should be treated likewise.

“According to my information, he has been called a second or third time. An investigation is underway, some new information or proof must have come to light and he has been called for the third time. There is no truth in this that he has been called for speaking against us,” Shah said at Karnataka Roundtable organised by India Today.

    MS Education Academy

Referring to Malik’s allegations against the BJP-led government, Shah said he should be asked “why these things (have) come to mind after leaving us”.

“Why is not the soul awoken when you are in power…the credibility of such remarks should be seen by people, journalists…if all this is true, why was he quiet when he was Governor..these are not issues of public discussion. I want to say to the people of the country that the BJP-led government hasn’t done any such thing which needs to be hidden. If some remarks are made for personal, political self-interest after leaving us, those should be evaluated by the people, media…,” Amit Shah said.

Answering another query about the decision to appoint Satyapal Malik as Jammu and Kashmir Governor, Shah said he had worked in BJP for a long time and was also a former party vice president.

“A selection was made, sometimes this happens in politics…If someone keeps changing attitude, form from time to time, what can we do, people should understand,” he said.

Satyapal Malik on Friday said that he has been called by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) for giving clarification regarding the alleged insurance scam in Jammu and Kashmir.

“CBI has asked me to come to their Delhi office to give clarification regarding the alleged insurance scam in J-K on April 27 or 28,” he said when asked on the alleged insurance scam involving Reliance General Insurance.

He had earlier alleged the involvement of Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) functionary in the matter.

Responding to Malik’s allegations, Ram Madhav had on April 13 sent him a legal notice demanding a public apology from him within 48 hours.

Speaking about the Karnataka elections, Amit Shah said that the BJP will return to power with an absolute majority.

“This time BJP will return to form government in Karnataka with full majority. I’m confident that we will win 15-20 seats more than the halfway mark.”

Asked about JD(S), he said voting for it “means voting for Congress”.

Answering queries, he said there was no chance of a hung assembly and BJP will get a majority. Polling to elect a new Karnataka assembly will be held on May 10 and results will be declared on May 13.

Karnataka’s 4% Muslim quota: ‘Ended special favour..’, says Amit Shah

    [ad_1]

New Delhi: Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Saturday alleged that Congress provided 4 per cent reservation to Muslims in Karnataka in an “unconstitutional manner” and that Bharatiya Janata Party government in the State had put an end to the practice.

Speaking at a media conclave organised by India Today, Shah said that the BJP ended the “special favour” meant for “scoring political points” and gave the rights to persons deserving the reservation, the OBCs.

The Home Minister said that the Constitution does not allow reservation on the basis of religion and slammed the Congress party for doing so.

    MS Education Academy

Speaking at the conclave, Shah said, “As far as justice is concerned with the social point of view, the Congress government had given 4 per cent Muslim reservation in an unconstitutional manner in Karnataka. It was unconstitutional because our Constitution does not approve reservation based on religion but it was prevailing in Karnataka.”

“The state government scrapped the 4 per cent reservations for Muslims and increased the reservation for SC, ST, Vokkaliga and Lingayat. We have ended the special favour meant for scoring political points. We brought the Constitution to order and gave the rights to those deserving,” Shah said.

Earlier this March, the Karnataka government decided to scrap the four per cent quota for minorities and add it to the existing quota of two dominant communities of the poll-bound state.

The 4 per cent reservation given to Muslims under the 2B classification of the OBC category will now be divided into two equal parts and added to the existing quota of Vokkaligas and Lingayats for whom two new reservation categories of 2C and 2D were created during the Belagavi Assembly Session last year.

The state government’s move was slammed by the opposition and Congress vowed to cancel the move if it comes to power in the upcoming Assembly elections slated on May 10.

“As soon as our government comes, we will cancel the reservation issue and will protect the minority interest,” state Congress president DK Shivakumar had said.

On April 14, former Karnataka Chief Minister Veerappa Moily who introduced the 4 per cent reservation said that it given to the Muslims in his regime was on a scientific basis and it was not on the basis of religion.

While speaking to ANI, Veerappa Moily said, “This reservation was given by me when I was CM in 1993 and it was done on basis of scientific data and not on the basis of religion. Muslims as a class were included in the backward category and it was absolutely legal. When we took the decision data was there. BJP has scrapped this reservation without any report”.

Veerappa Moily further stated that Congress will restore the 4 per cent reservation quota after coming back to power in Karnataka.
“We will restore it once we come back to power. This decision was unjustified and unscientific,” he said.
