    G-20, Amarnath Yatra: High level security meet in Srinagar today

    Srinagar, May 09: A crucial security review meeting will take place in Srinagar today that will be chaired by Union Home Secretary Ajay Bhalla while top security officials from the Union Territory will participate in the meet. Arrangements for the upcoming G-20 events, Amarnath Yatra, recent attacks in Poonch and Rajouri will be discussed besides other security related matters including terrorism and law and order situation.

    A senior official from the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) told news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), over phone from New Delhi, a high level meeting will take place in Srinagar today. “Union Home Secretary Ajay Bhalla and Director Intelligence Bureau are flying to Srinagar from New Delhi. The meeting will be chaired by Bhalla,” the official said, adding top officials from police including Director General of Police (DGP) Dilbagh Singh, ADGP’s of Kashmir and Jammu, Vijay Kumar and Mukesh Singh, GoC’s of 15 and 16 Corps, IGPs of CRPF and BSF, besides officers from the various intelligence agencies will participate in the meeting.

    As far as the agenda, the official said that the meeting will discuss and give final touches to the security arrangements to be put in place for the upcoming G-20 events slated for May 22-May 24 in Srinagar and the Amarnath Yatra. This will be the first time that G-20 events will be held in Srinagar under India’s presidency. J&K administration has already stated that the event was a great opportunity to showcase the tourism potential of the J&K and to give a global push to the UT’s tourism, which is the backbone of the total economy of the region.

    Sources in the MHA said that apart from the security plan for the G-20 events, today’s meeting will also prepare and finalise the plan for Amarnath Yatra. Security grid in Kashmir has already prepared a security plan and as per sources, the power point presentation of the same will be made in the today’s meeting. As per the plan, Lakes and Rivers will be handed over to the MARCOS while as NSG will be deployed along with the special operation group (SoG) of the police for fool-proof security cover for the G-20 events that are supposed to be held at SKICC on the banks of famous Dal Lake.

    Today’s meeting, sources said will also give final touches to the security arrangements on highways and counter-strategy to foil any possible attacks/strikes by militants to disrupt the G-20 event. ADGP Kashmir Vijay Kuma recently stated that the security grid has devised a strategy to scuttle all possible bids by militants that include drone attacks, vehicle-borne IEDs and fidayeen strikes besides grenade attacks. Sources said that today’s meeting will also discuss the recent attacks in Poonch and Rajouri that claimed the lives of ten soldiers including five para-troopers.     Quoting an official from from the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA), KNO reported that, a high level meeting will take place in Srinagar on Wednesday.

    “Union Home Secretary Ajay Bhalla and Director Intelligence Bureau are flying to Srinagar from New Delhi. The meeting will be chaired by Bhalla,” the official said, adding top officials from police including Director General of Police (DGP) Dilbagh Singh, ADGP’s of Kashmir and Jammu, Vijay Kumar and Mukesh Singh, GoC’s of 15 and 16 Corps, IGPs of CRPF and BSF, besides officers from the various intelligence agencies will participate in the meeting.

    As far as the agenda of the meeting is concerned, the official said that the meeting will discuss and give the final touch to the security arrangements to be put in place for the upcoming G-20 events slated for May 22-May 24 in Srinagar and the Amarnath Yatra.

    Sources in the MHA said that apart from the security plan for the G-20 events, the meeting will also prepare and finalize the plan for Amarnath Yatra.

    The security grid in Kashmir has already prepared a security plan and as per sources, the PowerPoint presentation of the same will be made in the meeting. As per the plan, Lakes and Rivers will be handed over to the MARCOS while NSG will be deployed along with the special operation group (SoG) of the police for fool-proof security cover for the G-20 events that are supposed to be held at SKICC on the banks of famous Dal Lake.

    SRINAGAR: Ahead of the Shri Amarnath Yatra,  Additional Director General of Police (ADGP), Jammu, Mukesh Singh on Thursday chaired a security review meeting and stressed for coordination among all the agencies involved for smooth and incident free pilgrimage.

    Notably, this year Shri Amarnath Yatra is starting from July 1 and will conclude on August 31.

    Top brass from various security and intelligence agencies participated in the meeting and deliberated upon various aspects of yatra management and emergency responses.

    Addressing the participants, the ADGP stressed proper coordination to be maintained among all the intelligence agencies, Army, Paramilitary Forces, Traffic and Security wing in their respective districts and area of responsibility for smooth and incident free Yatra.

    Singh had a detailed discussion and briefing with the officers of Central reserve Police Force, Police, intelligence agencies, in view of the present security scenario and possible threats to the Shri Amar Nath Yatra this year.

    During the meeting, some of the issues were raised by DIG CRPF and Commandant concerned and they were assured that issues will be addressed by Civil Administration and District SSPs concerned and SSP PCR well before the deployment of manpower for the Yatra.

    The ADG Jammu also advised the participants to ensure that proper coordination required to be maintained among all the intelligence agencies, Army, PMF, Traffic and Security wing in their respective districts/area of responsibility for smooth and incident free Yatra.

    He also requested Divisional Commissioner, Jammu Ramesh Kumar to take immediate action on certain issues raised by CRPF Commandants so that no inconvenience is caused to troops being deployed for the purpose—(KNO)

  • 62-Day Amarnath Yatra To Begin On July 1

    SRINAGAR: The 62-day long Shri Amarnathji Yatra will commence on July 1st this year and it will culminate on August 31.

    Further, the registration through online and offline modes for Shri Amarnathji Yatra will start from April 17.

    The Lieutenant Governor, Manoj Sinha while announcing the dates for holy pilgrimage and registration on Friday said the administration is committed to ensure smooth and hassle free pilgrimage.

    “Hassle-free pilgrimage is top priority of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi Ji and Home Minister Amit Shah Ji. The administration will provide best-in-class healthcare and other essential facilities to all the visiting devotees and service providers. Telecom services will be made operational prior to the commencement of Pilgrimage. All the stakeholder departments are working in coordination to ensure facilities for lodging, power, water, security and other arrangements for the smooth conduct of Yatra,” Manoj Sinha said.

    The Yatra would commence simultaneously from both the routes – the Pahalgam track in Anantnag district and Baltal in Ganderbal district.

    Manoj Sinha also directed the officials to ensure high levels of cleanliness and to take necessary intervention for sanitation and waste management.

    Shri Amarnathji Shrine Board (SASB) will also enable live telecast of morning and evening Aarti (Prayers) for devotees across the globe. Shri Amarnathji Yatra’s App has been made available on the Google play store to get real time information about the Yatra, weather and for availing several services online.

    During the 44th meeting of SASB chaired by the Lt Governor, the members and officials had reviewed various aspects of Shri Amarnathji Yatra-2023, including registration, provision of helicopter services, service providers, camps, langars and insurance cover for Yatris.

    The meeting discussed the ongoing works and future projects for smooth and hassle-free pilgrimage.

Bhandari, Principal Secretary to Lt Governor and CEO SASB made a detailed presentation and briefed the board on various aspects of Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra-2023, including registration for Yatra, provision of helicopter services, service providers, Yatra camps, langar,NGO services, insurance cover for yatris,service providers etc.

    He further presented the action taken report on the decisions taken in the previous board meetings.

    Chief Engineer BRO briefed the meeting on the progress regarding maintenance, restoration & development works of the Yatra tracks.

    Srinagar, Mar 7 (GNS): The Inspector General of Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) operations, MA Bhatia, stated on Tuesday that they are fully prepared for any and all events, whether it be an election or the annual Amarnath Yatra.

    During the inauguration of a hospital in Tral, the IG CRPF spoke to reporters, according to GNS, he said that the hospitals of Special Forces are now open for locals, which is a positive step.

    “Locals, officials, and the general public can come here and receive treatment, which will benefit everyone. We have a blood testing facility and other amenities, and we are working on providing advanced treatment, which will be available here soon,” IG said.

    When asked about the Amarnath Yatra, he replied, “We are on our toes to complete all requirements, and we have already begun the process. We will be fully prepared for any and all events, whether it be an election or the annual Amarnath Yatra. All arrangements have been made to maintain law and order”, he stated. (GNS)

    SRINAGAR: Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha Thursday chaired a meeting of the officers from the UT administration and Border Roads Organization (BRO) at Raj Bhavan.

    During the meeting, the Lt Governor sought the details of the scope of work to be undertaken for the widening, restoration and maintenance of the stretch of yatra track that has been handed over to BRO.

    K N Rai, member of Shri Amarnathji Shrine Board ( SASB); Shailendra Kumar, Principal Secretary, Public Works (R&B) Department; Brig Saket Singh, Chief Engineer, BRO; Akshay Labroo, Additional Secretary to Lt Governor, Rahul Singh, Additional Chief Executive Officer, SASB were present.

    The Lt Governor was apprised on the scope of work, surveyed via drone. The Lt Governor impressed upon the BRO to complete the works within the specified timeframe. (KNO)

    JAMMU: In its 12th High Level Committee (HLC) meeting of Amarnath Shrine Board (SASB) attended by the senior officers in Civil and Security establishment Chief Secretary, Dr Arun Kumar Mehta on Friday impressed upon all the line departments including the Shrine Board to prepare well ahead of commencement of yatra for its successful conduct this year, an official handout reads.

    According to statement, Dr Mehta urged all the departments including PDD, Jal Shakti, RDD, H&UDD, BRO, Telecommunication and others to complete the necessary tendering and other contract related processes in the month of April itself. He directed the BRO to clear the snow from roads on both the axis of Chandanwadi and Baltal before end of April so that other departments are able to carryout their activities smoothly.

    The Chief Secretary stressed on marking the disaster prone areas on both the routes and ensure that  the utilities are not established in such areas. He directed that  necessary assistance may be taken  from NDRF in this regard so that they could certify that no utility has been erected in such zones, reads the statement.

    He asked the concerned Deputy Commissioners to facilitate all the service providers so that the facilities created at each location are appropriate and sufficient for both the devotees and facilitators. He advised them to work in coordination with each other and use the work window very efficiently so that every facility is ready by mid June in any case.

    He asked the civil administration about the arrangements made last year by them at each of the camp location and enroute up to the holy cave. He told them to repeat the same exercise with necessary improvements, wherever required. He asked  them to implement the Supreme Court directions passed in this regard in letter and spirit and give more focus on  stabilization of slopes in vulnerable stretches, construction of foot bridges along the yatra track, repairing of safety railings and removal of slips and installation of signages for the safety and ease  of pilgrims.

    Dr Mehta stated that the DPRs of the works to be taken in hand for successful conduct of the yatra should be given timely Administrative Approval.  Besides, their technical vetting should also be carried on priority to identify the works that are more significant in terms of safety and security of yatris. He directed for completing the building at Ramban before start of yatra this year.

    He enjoined upon all the Departments like Health, FCS&CA, RDD, H&UDD, DMRRR, Information, IT and others to carryout their routine works as per the past practice enhancing the capacity wherever required. He termed their contribution very crucial for conduct of the yatra and beckoned them to work with a sense of purpose and urgency.

    The Chief Secretary further directed them to ensure that the installation of lights, water tanks, toilets, generators, PSPs, Public  Address System, communication towers are fully functional at each camp location before the commencement of yatra.

    He stressed on creating health facilities with appropriate bed capacity at each location with the allied facilities like Oxygen supply, X-ray, ECG and others as per the actual requirement. He laid emphasis on taking proper sanitation measures at all camp and langar sites without any fail with putting good number of volunteers and personnel at work.

    He also asked for the trial running of all the helipads on both the routes well before time. He asked the Divisional and District administration to take every measure for risk mitigation deemed fit after visiting the tracks themselves.

    The Divisional administrations ensured him that full proof arrangements would be made everywhere. They further gave out that power supply, water,  health facilities, installation of toilets/baths, telephone, ration, fire fighting equipment, firewood, shelter sheds, helipads, mobile connectivity, langar, tents and SDRF/NDRF personnel deployment would be done at each spot identified for the purpose. They informed the meeting that every facility required for the event would be created as per the standard practice besides taking all the measures as per the directions given in this meeting.
