If BJP keeps bullying media, investors won’t come to India: Akhilesh

    [ad_1]

Lucknow: Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav on Tuesday said foreign investors will not come to India as the BJP government’s ‘bulldozer policy’ and the recent I-T “raids” at the BBC offices have dented the country’s image abroad.

Talking to reporters after attending an assembly session here, Yadav, referring to the recently concluded Investors Summit in Uttar Pradesh, said the ruling BJP was selling dreams to people.

The pictures of the authorities bulldozing the houses of poor people have been seen by the world. If the BJP raids an institution like the BBC and intimidates the media, do you expect people from around the world to invest in the country, Yadav said.

The BJP is just selling dreams to the people that investments worth Rs 40 lakh crore will come to Uttar Pradesh, he said while referring to the Investors Summit.

“Investors came and went after taking a round of the Investors Summit. The government will not tell you that no one stayed at the tent city built by spending thousands of crores of rupees for the investors to stay. You (media) find out how many investors stayed in them. All were empty,” Yadav claimed.

Bulldozers used for demolishing illegal buildings have been in hot discussion in the state, inviting the sobriquet of “bulldozer Baba” for Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath.

A 45-year-old woman and her 20-year-old daughter died after they immolated themselves during an anti-encroachment drive in a village in Kanpur Dehat district of Uttar Pradesh.

Referring to the death of Apna Dal-Sonelal’s MLA Rahul Prakash Kol due to cancer, the former chief minister said, “Today, so many people are dying due to cancer, but you (BJP) will not build a cancer institute, you will not build a hospital.”

“You (BJP) are the people of the government who want to build your own temple,” he said without elaborating which temple he was talking about.

On the presentation of the budget for 2023-24 in the state assembly on Wednesday, the SP president said, “Six budgets of this government have come so far. What did anyone get? No one got anything… the income of the farmers did not get doubled.”

“Unemployment and inflation are at their peak. The increase in the price of diesel and petrol has resulted in an increase in prices of vegetables and food items,” he claimed.

Describing the manhandling of mediapersons by security personnel during a protest by SP members in the Vidhan Bhavan premises on Monday as “unfortunate”, Yadav said action should be taken against the guilty.

  • Adani is BJP’s ‘Vitamin A’, govt shouldn’t discriminate between industrialists: Akhilesh

Adani is BJP’s ‘Vitamin A’, govt shouldn’t discriminate between industrialists: Akhilesh

    [ad_1]

Ballia: Samajwadi Party president Akhilesh Yadav on Thursday described billionaire tycoon Gautam Adani as “Vitamin A” of the BJP, saying the government should not discriminate between industrialists.

“Industry and industrialists should progress, but there should not be any discrimination with anyone. It cannot be the case that one industrialist grows and the other does not. The government should have the same vision for everyone,” Yadav said.

“There should be no discrimination between industrialists, but the BJP is only helping Adani,” the SP president told reporters in response to a query.

Terming Adani “Vitamin A of BJP”, Yadav said both “the excess and loss of Vitamin A has its disadvantages”.

“Having discriminatory attitudes results in banks sinking with the fall of one industry. The LIC will drown. Who will bring back the money of the bank and the LIC. There should be no discrimination between industrialists, but the BJP is only helping one industrialist,” the former Uttar Pradesh chief minister alleged.

The Adani Group stocks have taken a beating on the bourses after US-based short seller Hindenburg Research made a litany of allegations, including fraudulent transactions and share-price manipulation, against the business conglomerate. The Adani Group has dismissed the charges as lies, saying it complies with all laws and disclosure requirements.

The opposition parties have alleged that the meltdown in Adani Group shares is a “mega scam” that involves common people’s money as public sector LIC and SBI have invested in them and have questioned the government on steps taken by it.

Referring to the Hindenburg report, Yadav said, “Under the BJP government, which claims that the economy is strong, a report comes and Industrialist Adani slides down to 20th position from second spot.”

To a question, he said the SP is a party which believes in God. “We believe in Lord Vishnu and all his incarnations. We follow religious scriptures and faith,” he said in an apparent reference to the ongoing row over his party leader Swami Prasad Maurya’s comment on portions of the Ramcharitmanas.

The SP chief alleged that Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath is putting forward both his deputies to shield him wherever he (CM) does not want to answer the questions.

“The battle of 2024 (Lok Sabha election) is the biggest battle. This is a fight to save democracy and the Constitution,” he added.

Akhilesh stems resentment in SP with expansion of national executive

    [ad_1]

Lucknow: Samajwadi Party (SP) President Akhilesh Yadav, in a swift decision, has managed to stem the brewing resentment in the party cadres by making some addition in the party’s newly-constituted national executive.

Akhilesh has added four upper caste members and another backward class (OBC) leader to its national executive.

The move comes amid purported talks in some sections of the party over “under-representation of upper castes in the executive”.

Those included in the national executive are Om Prakash Singh, Arvind Singh Gope, Vinay Tiwari, Neeraj Saxena and Ram Prasad Chaudhary.

While Chaudhary is a non-Yadav OBC, the others are upper caste Hindus.

This is the third expansion of the national executive since it was first announced on January 29 afternoon. Originally, the SP’s national body had 62 members.

The same day it increased to 64 members and the executive now has 69 members.

Originally, there were 11 Yadavs, 10 Muslims, 25 non-Yadav OBCs, nine upper castes, six Dalits, a scheduled tribe, and a Christian member. Now, the number of upper caste members in the national executive has gone up to 13. There are 26 non-Yadav OBC members after the expansion.

Veteran party leader Om Prakash Singh, soon after the announcement of the executive, had tweeted his resentment when he wrote, “Yeh alag baat hai ki maine kabhi jataya nahin/magar tu yeh na samajh ki tune dil dukhaya nahin.”

Singh is a normally reticent leader, not known to air his grievances openly. His tweet sent shockwaves within the party circles and the growing resentment was communicated to the SP President.

The amendment in the executive body has now pacified the cadres and party strategists feel that in the coming months, the party would adopt a more inclusive policy.

  • UP Legislative Council polls: Akhilesh accuses BJP of dishonesty

UP Legislative Council polls: Akhilesh accuses BJP of dishonesty

    [ad_1]

Hardoi: Samajwadi Party (SP) president and former Uttar Pradesh chief minister Akhilesh Yadav on Friday took a jibe at the BJP, suggesting it won this week’s Legislative Council elections through dishonest means.

He also hit out at BSP chief Mayawati, saying when the BJP does not want to answer questions on any issue, it pushes other parties forward to do it.

Yadav, who was here to attend a private function in Harpalpur, told reporters that the BJP was indulging in dishonest practices and the party’s leaders were congratulating each other for it. “This is not the first election Uttar Pradesh has witnessed,” he added.

Accusing the BJP of misusing the government machinery in the district panchayat and block chief elections in the state, Yadav alleged that he had nothing to say about the results of the Legislative Council elections as “this is the way the BJP government functions”.

The ruling BJP in Uttar Pradesh on Friday won four of the five legislative council seats for which elections were held this week and one went to an Independent. Polling on three graduates and two teachers constituencies of the council was held on January 30. Counting began on Thursday evening and was completed on Friday.

The SP has nine members in the 100-member Uttar Pradesh Legislative Council and needed one more to stake claim to the Leader of the Opposition’s post. The BJP’s strength in the state’s Upper House will now rise to 79.

On a question over Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) chief Mayawati accusing the SP of insulting people of the Scheduled Castes, Yadav said, “BJP is a smart party, it does not want to answer on any issue, it brings forward other parties to do the same.”

Earlier in the day, in a series of tweets in Hindi, Mayawati said, “Ramcharitmanas and Manusmriti are not the books of the weaker and marginalised section of society, but it is the Constitution of India, in which Babasaheb Bhimrao Ambedkar had not called them as Shudra, but as SC, ST and OBC. Therefore, the Samajwadi Party should not insult them by calling them as Shudra, nor they should defy the Constitution.”

Yadav added, “As far as the Constitution is concerned, we also said on 26th January, Republic Day, that for us socialists, if there is any religion, it is our Constitution.”

“We worship democracy and the rights that the Constitution gives us are being taken away. Where has the Constitution said that you can discriminate, where has it said that you can show religion as upper or lower,” the SP chief said.

Budget 2023-24 gives ‘nirasha’ instead of ‘asha’ to Indians: Akhilesh

    [ad_1]

Lucknow: Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav on Wednesday said the Union Budget for 2023-24 has given “nirasha” (despair) instead of “asha” (hope) to people of the country.

He also claimed that the budget further increases inflation and unemployment.

Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman presented the budget for the fiscal year 2023-24 in Lok Sabha on Wednesday and said it hopes to build on the foundation of the previous budget and blue print for India@100.

“The BJP is completing a decade of its budgets, but when it did not give anything to the public earlier, what will it give now?” Yadav tweeted in Hindi.

“The BJP’s budget further increases inflation and unemployment. It does not give ‘asha’ but ‘nirasha’ to farmers, labourers, youth, women, professionals and the business class. This budget is for the benefit of a few rich people,” he added.

‘Pathaan’ success victory over BJP’s negative politics: Akhilesh Yadav

    [ad_1]

Lucknow: Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav on Tuesday termed the success of film Pathaan a victory of positive thinking, and a fitting reply to BJP’s negative politics.

In a tweet in Hindi, Akhilesh Yadav said, “Pathan becoming a superhit is a victory of positive thinking in the country and in the world, and it is a befitting reply to the negative politics of the BJP.”

Several Hindu rights activists had called for the boycott of the film, which has since its release posted record-breaking revenues.

In the run up to the film, and even after its release, goons across states vandalised cinema halls and tore the film’s posters.

A boycott call was made and trended on Twitter ostensibly over the film’s female lead Deepika Padukone’s outfit its cut and colour in one of the film’s songs.

The spy thriller has broken many box office records and has raised over Rs 500 crore gross worldwide since its release on January 25.
