Atiq Ahmed’s brother Ashraf brought to Naini Jail in UP’s Prayagraj

Prayagraj: Gangster-politician Khalid Azim alias Ashraf was brought to the Naini Central Jail in Prayagraj in Uttar Pradesh Monday evening amid tight security arrangements, hours after his brother Atiq Ahmed was escorted to the prison from Gujarat.
Ashraf and Atiq will be produced before a court on Tuesday, when it is likely to pass an order in a 17-year-old kidnapping case against them.
Ashraf, lodged in the Bareilly District Jail since July 2020, was brought to the Naini Central Jail Monday evening amid tight security arrangements, officials said. A police team accompanying him left Bareilly for Prayagraj Monday morning.
Atiq Ahmed was brought to the jail in Prayagraj from a prison in Gujarat. The police cavalcade bringing him reached the Naini Jail at 5.30 pm on Monday.
The brothers are named in several criminal cases, including the recent Umesh Pal murder case, police said.

Atiq Ahmed’s convoy halts briefly in MP’s Shivpuri on way to Prayagraj

Bhopal: The convoy of gangster-turned-politician Atiq Ahmed being escorted by the Uttar Pradesh police halted briefly in Shivpuri district of Madhya Pradesh on early Monday morning on its way to Prayagraj, a senior official said.
The carcade entered MP from the Rajasthan border, he said.
“The convoy halted briefly in Shivpuri district (more than 300 km from Bhopal) at around 8 AM. It will reach Jhansi, bordering Shivpuri district, in Uttar Pradesh soon,” the official said.
The gangster is being taken to Prayagraj from Sabarmati central jail in Ahmedabad by the Uttar Pradesh police for a court case.
On Sunday, a team of Uttar Pradesh police reached the Sabarmati jail and left the premises with Ahmed amid tight security at around 6 pm after completing the necessary formalities, officials had said.
Ahmed, a former Samajwadi Party MP, has been lodged in the Sabarmati central jail since June 2019. He was shifted there following a Supreme Court after he was accused of orchestrating the kidnapping and assault on a real estate businessman Mohit Jaiswal while in prison in UP.
He is named in more than 100 criminal cases, including the recent Umesh Pal murder case, police said.
After stepping out of Sabarmati central jail, Ahmed on Sunday expressed fear that he might be murdered.

“Hatya, hatya (murder, murder),” Ahmed had told reporters outside the prison while being whisked away in a police vehicle by security personnel
BJP Lok Sabha MP Subrat Pathak had said he would not be surprised if mafia Atiq Ahmed’s vehicle overturns like that of gangster Vikas Dubey.
Dubey was gunned down in July 2020 by the Special Task Force of Uttar Pradesh police shortly after a police SUV in which he was being brought to Kanpur from Ujjain in Madhya Pradesh overturned under mysterious circumstances on a highway. Police claimed that he had tried to flee.

Two met who illegally met Atiq Ahmed’s brother in jail arrested

Bareilly: Two men who had allegedly met former MLA Ashraf illegally in jail have been arrested, an official said on Tuesday.
Ashraf, the brother of gangster-turned-politician Atiq Ahmed, has been lodged in the Bareilly district prison since July 2020. Ahmed, currently lodged in a Gujarat prison, is the main accused in the 2005 murder case of BSP legislator Raju Pal. Atiq and Ashraf were recently booked in connection with the killing of Umesh Pal, a key witness in the murder case.
The arrested duo were identified as Mohammad Raza alias Lalla Gaddi and Mohammad Arif, a resident of Pilibhit. They were nabbed by a joint team of of the Special Operations Group and officers from the Bithri Chainpur police station, Superintendent of Police (City) Rahul Bhati said.
Raza was arrested from Bareilly while Arif was nabbed from his home in Pilibhit.
Earlier, a prison guard and another person were arrested for allegedly facilitating meetings between Ashraf and his close aides illegally.

Umesh Pal murder: House where Atiq Ahmed’s family lived demolished

Prayagraj: Two days after Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath announced that ‘mafia ko mitti mein mila denge (mafia will be finished)’, the Prayagraj Development Authority (PDA), on Wednesday, started demolishing the house of kin of mafia-turned-politician Atiq Ahmed.
Atiq Ahmed along with his wife Shaista Parveen, their two sons and his brother Ashraf, have been named as accused in the Umesh Pal murder case.
The house, located in Chakia under Kareli police station of Prayagraj, is said to belong to one Khalid Jafar where Shaista Parveen was currently residing after Atiq Ahmad’s own house was demolished for having been “illegally constructed” in September 2020 as part of an action against him.
Confirming the demolition, PDA vice-chairman Arvind Kumar Chauhan said, “The house was illegally constructed in violation of set norms and is therefore being demolished. Notice was issued to the owner and all the requisite process was followed.”
The cost of the house is estimated to be around Rs 2.5 crore.
Umesh Pal was a key witness in the 2005 BSP MLA Raju Pal’s murder case in Prayagraj in which Atiq Ahmed and his brother Khalid Azeem besides many close aides are prime accused.
On the evening of February 24, armed men opened fire on Pal and two policemen outside his residence in the Sulem Sarai area of Prayagraj.
Umesh Pal and one of the policemen, Sandeep Nishad, died while another security personnel Raghvendra Singh is critical.

On Monday, the local police eliminated Arbaaz in an encounter for his alleged role in the Umesh Pal murder case. Arbaaz’s link with former MP Atiq Ahmed has come to the fore.
According to police, he worked as a domestic help in Atiq’s house since childhood. Later, Arbaaz worked as a driver for Atiq’s sons.
A police inquiry has revealed that Arbaaz, a resident of the district’s Sallahpur area, drove the car in which assailants reached the spot and fired shots at Umesh Pal and his security guards on February 24.
