KCR is more dangerous than Atiq Ahmed, says Telangana BJP chief

    [ad_1]

Hyderabad: Telangana BJP chief Bandi Sanjay Kumar has made a controversial statement that Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao is more dangerous than gangster-politician Atiq Ahmed, who was recently gunned down in Uttar Pradesh.

Sanjay Kumar tweeted on Wednesday that Chief Minister KCR is a gangster to all the gangsters. He said while Atiq Ahmed threatened people with guns, KCR is using police to threaten and ‘Dharani’ to harass common man.

‘Dharani’ is a portal launched by KCR government for land transactions.

He reiterated the demand for a probe by a sitting judge into the Telangana State Public Service Commission (TSPSC) exam paper leak. “We don’t trust the Special Investigation Team set up by the KCR government,” he said.

Sanjay Kumar, who is also a Member of Parliament, stated that SITs constituted to probe Miyapur land scam, Intermediate students’ suicides and drugs case never submitted report their reports.

The BJP leader addressed a protest march in Mahabubnagar last night to highlight the problems of unemployed in the state.

He claimed that the response was tremendous to the march titled ‘Nirudyogula Gosa BJP Bharosa’. He said the BJP would continue to fight for justice for unemployed youth.

The BJP leader said that a person who can’t even properly conduct examinations has no right to remain in power.

This was the second major protest organised by the BJP over the issue. Last week, a protest was organised in Warangal.

The BJP is looking to cash in on the TSPSC paper leak which has affected thousands of unemployed who had appeared in various examinations for recruitment in government departments.

As the Assembly elections in the state are scheduled later this year, the BJP is going all out to target the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) government on the paper leak scam.

The saffron party has already demanded the resignation of state minister for information technology and KCR’s son K. T. Rama Rao over the paper leak.

During a public meeting at Chevella on April 23, Union Home Minister Amit Shah had also trained guns on BRS over paper leak.

“The future of lakhs of youth was destroyed by the KCR government. Youth will hold you accountable in coming elections,” Shah said.

Stating that there are over 2 lakh vacancies in the state, the BJP leader said the KCR government did not fill them even in two terms and was now trying to fill up 80,000 posts and even in this it leaked question papers.

  • Atiq Ahmed lawyer booked for criminal conspiracy in Umesh Pal murder case

Atiq Ahmed lawyer booked for criminal conspiracy in Umesh Pal murder case

    [ad_1]

Prayagraj: Gangster-politician Atiq Ahmed’s lawyer Khan Shoulat Hanif has been booked for criminal conspiracy in the Umesh Pal murder case, an official said on Saturday.

Speaking to PTI, Deputy Commissioner of Police (City) Deepak Bhukar said Hanif’s name was added under Section 120-B (criminal conspiracy) of the Indian Penal Code to the FIR registered at Dhoomanganj police station in the Umesh Pal murder case.

“We came to know that Hanif shared pictures of Umesh Pal with Ahmed’s son Asad days before he was attacked,” Bhukar told PTI.

    MS Education Academy

Asad, the third of Ahmed’s five sons, was killed in a police encounter in Jhansi on April 13.

Sources said the police might soon file a remand application in court to interrogate Hanif, who is currently lodged in Naini Central Prison after being sentenced to life imprisonment in the Umesh Pal kidnapping case.

Umesh Pal, a key witness in the murder of BSP MLA Raju Pal, and his two security personnel were shot dead on February 24.

On February 25, the police registered a case against Ahmed, his brother Ashraf, wife Shaista Parveen, two sons, aides Guddu Muslim and Ghulam, and nine other accomplices at Dhoomanganj police station.

A special court here on March 28 convicted Ahmed, Hanif and Dinesh Pasi and sentenced them to life in prison in the 17-year-old kidnapping case.

Hanif and Pasi were detained in Naini Central Prison while Ahmed was sent to Sabarmati Central Jail in Gujarat’s Ahmedabad.

Ahmed, a former Samajwadi Party MP, and Ashraf were shot dead on April 15 by three assailants when they were being taken by the police for a medical examination. They were brought here in connection with the Umesh Pal murder case.

Slogans raised in support of slain gangster Atiq Ahmed in Patna

    [ad_1]

Patna: A group of Muslims on Friday shouted slogans in support of slain gangster-turned-politician Atiq Ahmed, his brother Ashraf Ahmed and son Asad Ahmed here, and termed their killings a conspiracy by the Yogi Adityanath government in Uttar Pradesh.

A large number of people assembled at the Jama mosque near Patna Junction to offer “Alvida Ka Namaz” on the last day of Ramzan month. After the prayers, a section of them came out on the roads and shouted slogans of “Shaheed Atiq Ahmed Amar Rahe, Ashraf Ahmed Amar Rahe, and Asad Ahmed Amar Rahe”. They have also shouted slogans against the Centre and the UP government.

Rais Ghaznavi, one of the protesters, said: “Uttar Pradesh’s Yogi Adityanath government is responsible for the murder of Atiq Ahmed, his brother, and son. They have used criminals to murder them in a planned way. The state government, UP police, media and court are involved in the conspiracy.”

    MS Education Academy

Asked whether Atiq Ahmed was a criminal, he said: “There are law and the courts in the country. If the court would give the death penalty to them, we have no objection to it. But the way criminals were used to kill the brothers are objectionable. The court had given the remand to Uttar Pradesh Police and it was their responsibility to provide them with security. Three persons came in and they murdered the two in a planned way.”

“We have prayed to Allah to accept the martyrdom of Shaheed Atiq Ahmed and his brother,” he added.

SC approves hearing petition to probe Atiq Ahmed killing

    [ad_1]

New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Tuesday agreed to hear a plea seeking a probe into the killings of gangster-turned-politician Atiq Ahmed and his brother Ashraf.

The plea sought a direction for setting up of an expert committee headed by a former apex court judge to investigate the killings. The case will be listed for hearing on April 24.

Advocate Vishal Tiwari moved the apex court seeking an independent expert committee and also sought an inquiry into the 183 encounters that have taken place in Uttar Pradesh since 2017.

    MS Education Academy

Ahmad and his brother were shot dead by three assailants, posing as journalists, while they were being escorted by police personnel to a medical college in Uttar Pradesh’s Prayagraj for a check up on Saturday night.

The plea sought guidelines to safeguard the rule of law by constituting an independent expert committee under the chairmanship of a former Supreme Court judge and also to inquire into the 183 encounters which had occurred since 2017 as stated by Uttar Pradesh Special Director General of Police (Law and Order).

The petitioner also sought a probe into the murder of Ahmad and his brother under police custody and stressed that “such actions by police are a severe threat to democracy and rule of law and lead to police state”.

The plea said extra judicial killings or fake police encounters do not have a place under the law and further argued that in a democratic society the police cannot be allowed to become a mode of delivering final justice, as the power of punishment is only vested in the judiciary.

Atiq Ahmed murder: Modi-Yogi Zindabad slogans raised amidst fireworks in UP

    [ad_1]

A day after gangster-turned-politician Atiq Ahmed and his brother Ashraf Ahmed was shot dead in cold murder in Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) workers in Kanpur reportedly celebrated by bursting fireworks and raising slogans of Jai Shri Ram, Modi-Yogi Zindabad.

Memes making fun of the event were circulated by Hindutva supporters online.

Addressing the mediapersons on Sunday morning, AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi said those celebrating murder on LIVE telecast are vultures.

    MS Education Academy

“How did they (killers) get those weapons?… Why were they raising religious slogans after killing them? What will you call them if not terrorists? Will you call them patriots?” Owaisi asked.

Atiq and his brother were in police custody. He was handcuffed. JSR (Jai Shri Ram) slogans were also raised. The killing of both is the failure of Yogi’s law and order system. Those celebrating encounter raj are also responsible for this murder,” he added.

Demanding immediate resignation of chief minister Yogi Adityanath Owaisi said, “I have always been saying that BJP in Uttar Pradesh is not running the government by the rule of law but by the rule of gun.”

Atiq Ahmed and his brother were shot dead while being taken for a medical check-up on Saturday night.  This comes days after Atiq Ahmed’s son Asad was killed in an encounter in Uttar Pradesh’s Jhansi.

Uttar Pradesh police said that they were posing as journalists at the spot of the incident. “One was having a camera and was posing as a cameraman. While one was roaming with a mike where it was written NCR News. Third was assisting both,” police said.

“As Atiq reached the hospital, reporters started questioning them after 2 lines, one guy fired on his head from very close and Atiq fell down. Another two guys also threw the camera and mike and started firing,” police said.

Police arrested three persons – Loveleash Tiwari (prime accused),  Arun Maurya and Sunny Singh.

Speaking to reporters on Sunday, Yagya Tiwari (father of Lovelesh) said, “He is my son. We saw the incident on TV. We are not aware of his actions nor do we have anything to do with this. He never lived here and neither was he involved in our family affairs. He did not tell us anything. He came here five to six days ago. We have not been on talking terms with him for years. There is already a case registered against him. He was jailed in that case.”

“He doesn’t work. He was a drug addict. We have four children. We have nothing to say about this,” Yagya Tiwari added.

Ready to die, not sacred to visit UP: Owaisi after killing of Atiq Ahmed

    [ad_1]

Hyderabad: Coming down hard on the BJP government in Uttar Pradesh over the prevailing law and order situation in the wake of the killing of gangster-turned-politician Atiq Ahmed and his brother Ashraf Ahmed in Prayagraj, AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi on Sunday said it was necessary to prevent radicalisation, adding that he was not afraid to visit Uttar Pradesh.

Addressing the mediapersons on Sunday morning, Owaisi said, “I have always been saying that BJP in Uttar Pradesh is not running the government by the rule of law but by the rule of gun. Uttar Pradesh’s BJP government has a role in this. Supreme Court-monitored investigation should be done and a committee should be formed. No officer from Uttar Pradesh should be included in the committee. This was a ‘cold-blooded’ murder.”

He further said, “I am ready to die… Radicalisation needs to be stopped. I will surely visit Uttar Pradesh, I am not scared. Jab pyaar kiya toh darna kya (why fear death when you are loved).”

Asaduddin Owaisi termed killing ‘cold-blooded murder’

Calling the incident a “cold-blooded murder”, Owaisi added that people who are celebrating this killing are “vultures”.

“How did they (killers) get those weapons?… Why were they raising religious slogans after killing them? What will you call them if not terrorists? Will you call them Patriots? People celebrating this incident are vultures…” he said.

Owaisi said the incident raises a big question about the law and order situation.

The AIMIM chief questioned whether the public will have any faith in the constitution and law and order of the country after this incident.

He said, “We would like to ask the Prime Minister of the country whether you will say anything or not? The Prime Minister says in his speech that ‘meri supari li gayi hai’. Now tell what is happening in the state from where you are the Member of Parliament. Every citizen of India is feeling unsafe and vulnerable after yesterday’s incident.”

    AIMIM chief demands Yogi’s resignation

Owaisi further demanded Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath’s resignation.

“I demand the resignation of UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and the Supreme Court to form a team and investigate this matter. We also demand all police officers present there should be removed from service,” he said.

“Atiq and his brother were in police custody. He was handcuffed. JSR (Jai Shri Ram) slogans were also raised. The killing of both is the failure of Yogi’s law and order system. Those celebrating encounter raj are also responsible for this murder,” Owaisi added.

Days after Atiq Ahmed’s son Asad was killed in an encounter in Uttar Pradesh’s Jhansi, the gangster-turned-politician and his brother, Ashraf Ahmed, were killed on Saturday while being taken for a medical examination in Prayagraj.

Atiq Ahmed was accused in the 2005 Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) MLA Raju Pal murder case and also in the Umesh Pal murder case which happened in February this year. UP Police, has, so far, arrested a total of 3 shooters in this incident.

In the aftermath of the incident, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath in a late-night meeting instructed the state police officers to be on high alert and ensure law and order are maintained across the state.

“UP CM Yogi Adityanath has instructed Police officers to be on alert, ensure peace, law and order are maintained in the state and the public doesn’t face any trouble,” according to the Chief Minister office’s statement.

    High-level inquiry ordered

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath ordered a high-level inquiry into the matter.

“CM Yogi immediately called a high-level meeting and ordered a high-level inquiry into the whole matter. Chief Minister also gave instructions for the formation of a three-member Judicial Commission (Judicial Inquiry Commission) in the matter,” officials said.

Uttar Pradesh government on Sunday imposed Section 144 of CrPC in all the districts, in the aftermath of Atiq Ahmed, Ashraf Ahmed was shot dead in Prayagraj, officials informed.

Shortly after mafia-turned-politician Atiq Ahmed and his brother Ashraf were shot dead in Prayagraj, former Uttar Pradesh chief minister and Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav on Saturday said crime has reached its peak in the state and the morale of the “criminals” has grown by leaps and bounds.

“Crime has reached its peak in UP and the morale of the criminals is high. When someone can be killed openly despite being surrounded by a security cordon, one can imagine the state of the general public. Due to this (alleged encounter killings), an ambience of fear is being created among the public. It seems that some people are deliberately creating such an ambience,” Akhilesh Yadav tweeted.

Killing of Atiq Ahmed as heinous as Umesh Pal murder case: Mayawati

    [ad_1]

Lucknow: BSP chief Mayawati on Sunday said the killing of gangster-turned-politician Atiq Ahmed and his brother Ashraf in police custody in Prayagraj raises serious questions over the style of functioning of the Uttar Pradesh government.

It would be better if the Supreme Court takes cognisance of this “extremely serious and worrisome” incident, which is being discussed across the country, the former Uttar Pradesh chief minister said.

In a series of tweets, she said, “Now, instead of ‘rule of law by law’ in Uttar Pradesh, how appropriate is it that it becomes ‘encounter Pradesh’? Something to think about.”

    MS Education Academy

“The shooting dead of Atiq Ahmed, who was brought from Gujarat jail and his brother Ashraf, who was brought from Bareilly jail last night in Prayagraj, in police custody, is just as heinous as the Umesh Pal murder case. It raises serious questions on the law and order of the UP government, and its style of functioning,” she said.

BJP leader Umesh Pal was killed by Atiq’s men in 2005.

Gangster-turned-politician Atiq Ahmed (60) and his brother Ashraf were shot dead at point-blank range by three men posing as journalists in the middle of a media interaction on Saturday night while police personnel were escorting them to a medical college in Prayagraj for a checkup.

The brothers, both jailed in Prayagraj, were in handcuffs when they were killed in full view of camera crews around 10 pm. The horrifying visuals were circulated widely on social media platforms and television channels. The last rites of Ahmed’s son Asad, who was gunned down in a police encounter in Jhansi on April 13, were performed here just hours before the shooting.

Briefing reporters about the incident, Commissioner of Police, Prayagraj, Ramit Sharma said the three assailants, who were arrested immediately after the incident, had joined the group of reporters who were trying to get sound bites from Ahmed and Ashraf.

“In accordance with a mandatory legal requirement, Atiq Ahmed and Ashraf were brought to the hospital for a medical examination. According to preliminary information, three men posing as journalists approached them and opened fire. Ahmed and Ashraf were killed in the attack. The attackers have been held and are being questioned,” Sharma said.

Officials said Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has formed a three-member judicial commission to probe the killing of Ahmed and his brother.

  • The rise and fall of Atiq Ahmed

The rise and fall of Atiq Ahmed

    [ad_1]

Lucknow: He was born in 1962 in a family with a modest background. His father drove a tonga for a living.

His rise in life was as dramatic as his end and the story of the rise and fall of Atiq Ahmed provides a perfect recipe for a Bollywood thriller.

Atiq, according to sources, detested poverty and after he failed in the high school examinations, he decided to tackle poverty in his own way.

    MS Education Academy

He began by stealing coal from trains and selling it to make money. He soon moved to intimidating contractors to bag government tenders for railway scrap metal.

In 1979, Atiq, just 17 then, was accused of murder in Allahabad, now Prayagraj.

Soon, he was running a network of several gangsters in the state. His clout gradually spread to adjoining areas, including Phulpur and Kaushambhi.

In 1989, when his biggest rival, Shaukat Ilahi, was killed in a police encounter, Atiq became the undisputed king of the underworld.

The same year, Atiq, fought his first election from the Allahabad West Assembly seat as an independent candidate and won.

In fact, he won this seat five consecutive times from 1989 to 2002 — the first three times as an Independent, then as a Samajwadi Party contestant and finally as the Apna Dal nominee.

A year after he won as the Apna Dal candidate, Atiq went back to the Samajwadi Party and won the Phulpur Lok Sabha seat in 2004.

He had to vacate his Allahabad West Assembly segment that triggered a chain of events leading to Raju Pal’s murder, a sensational crime in which Umesh Pal — killed on February 24 — was the main witness.

Atiq was arrested in 2005 for Raju Pal’s murder and got bail three years later.

However, in or out of jail, Atiq maintained his sway over Uttar Pradesh’s underworld and ensured his men were protected.

In 2007, when he was still in jail, Atiq was accused of shielding his men allegedly involved in the gang-rape of some madrasa students.

This triggered an outrage and the Samajwadi Party expelled him.

This was around the time when BSP chief Mayawati returned to power in UP. The police mounted pressure on Atiq and his brother. They surrendered in 2008 and were jailed.

When the Indo-US civil nuclear deal threatened the Manmohan Singh government that faced a no-confidence motion in Parliament in 2008, the UPA crisis managers turned to a few MPs lodged in jail on serious charges.

Atiq was among them who came out to vote on furlough and saved the day for the UPA and returned to his barracks.

Atiq also lost the 2009 parliamentary polls as an Apna Dal nominee from Pratapgarh.

But electoral defeats did not mean his clout had diminished.

In the 2012 UP Assembly election, when Mayawati was the incumbent chief minister, Atiq filed his nomination papers from jail. He approached the Allahabad High Court seeking bail to campaign. There were recusals galore.

Ten judges refused to hear his bail application. The 11th heard it and Atiq came out. However, he lost the election to Puja Pal, the wife of the slain Raju Pal.

Atiq was released in 2013, a year after the Samajwadi Party came to power in UP. He fought the 2014 Lok Sabha election from Shravasti as a Samajwadi Party candidate but lost again.

In December 2016, Atiq — known for his short temper — and his men attacked employees of a Christian minority institution for barring two students from taking their tests after they were caught cheating.

The violence was caught on camera.

In January 2017, when Akhilesh Yadav snatched the Samajwadi Party’s control from his father, Mulayam Singh Yadav, Atiq fell out of favour.

Akhilesh wanted to keep a distance from criminals-turned -politicians.

The Allahabad High Court also came down heavily on the UP Police for not arresting Atiq. Akhilesh needed the judicial push. The arrest happened and Atiq has been in jail since then.

In March 2017, when Yogi Adityanath became the UP chief minister in the BJP government, he promised to demolish the ’empires of criminals’.

Atiq was moved from Allahabad, his stronghold, to Deoria jail in the state.

In Deoria jail, Atiq ran his empire and got a businessman Mohit Jaiswal kidnapped and brought to jail. He was made to sign some property papers and also thrashed brutally.

Atiq was then moved to Bareilly jail. The jail superintendent was nervous and did not want to keep him there.

In April 2019, the Yogi government shifted Atiq to Naini prison in Prayagraj amid a tighter clampdown.

By this time, the Supreme Court delivered its verdict in the Deoria jail case and Sabarmati jail in Gujarat was the new address of Atiq Ahmed.

Atiq Ahmed faced over 100 cases against him, including those of extortion, kidnapping and murder but his first conviction came last month in the kidnapping of Umesh Pal, a witness in the murder of Raju Pal.

Ironically, the conviction came a month after Umesh Pal had been murdered.

Atiq Ahmed has had a symbiotic relationship between crime and politics but was known more for crime than his politics.

He deftly used politics to save and expand his underworld empire.

Since his stay in jail was getting longer, Atiq got his wife, Shaista Parveen, to join the BSP but as luck would have it, she was denied a ticket in the upcoming mayoral polls because of her being named as an accused in the Umesh Pal murder case.

That his sons were following in his footsteps was evident from their present addresses.

Umar, the eldest son of Atiq, is presently in jail on charges of extorting, assaulting and kidnapping a Lucknow-based businessman named Mohit Jaiswal in 2018.

In August last year, Umar surrendered before the CBI. He is presently in a jail in Lucknow.

His second son Ali is also in prison. A case of attempt to murder was filed against him. He recently got bail from the Allahabad High Court in that case. However, there is another case of extortion against him. He is lodged in Naini Jail in Prayagraj for demanding Rs 5 crore from a property dealer in the city.

Asad, the third son, was killed in an encounter last week and the two minor sons of Atiq are lodged in a juvenile shelter home.

When Atiq and his brother Ashraf were shot dead by three youths in the hospital premises on Saturday night, many had an inkling of the incident.

Atiq himself had apprehended that he would be killed in UP but that it would happen within 72 hours of his son Asad being killed, was something he had not expected.

But then, a bloody beginning always has a bloody ending.
