People like Atiq Ahmad, Amritpal Singh cancer for country, despise them: RSS leader

    [ad_1]

New Delhi: Senior RSS leader Indresh Kumar on Sunday said people such as gangster-turned-politician Atiq Ahmad and Khalistani preacher Amritpal Singh should be despised as they are enemies of humanity and “cancer” for the country.

Kumar was addressing an Eid Milan ceremony organised by the Muslim Rashtriya Manch (MRM) in the national capital.

Ahmad and his brother ashraf were shot dead at point-blank range by three men posing as journalists on April 15 in Uttar Pradesh’s Prayagraj, while Khalistan sympathiser Amritpal Singh was arrested on April 23 by the Punjab Police after a month-long hunt.

“Be it Atiq Ahmad, Amritpal, any terrorist or naxalite, all of them are enemies of humanity. They are going to snatch away people’s smiles. Such people should be despised and not supported. Voice should be raised against them. People like atiq and amritpal are cancer for the country,” the MRM in a statement quoted the RSS leader as saying at the event.

Kumar, a member of the RSS national executive, is the chief patron of the MRM.

“Eid means happiness but if Islam is tainted because of a few people, who believe in Islam, there is a need for us to ponder seriously as to what paths have been shown to us by Islam and the Quran,” Kumar said.

He called upon people to follow their respective religions and have respect for each others’ faith. “We are all one and if we accept this, there will never be any quarrel or trouble,” Kumar said, adding that “just follow your religion”.

“Don’t condemn or criticise any other religion. Have respect for all religions,” he said .

Addressing the event, senior RSS leader Ram Lal stressed on maintaining unity and integrity of the country and called upon people to take a vow that they will not let anyone divide them.

The brothers were in handcuffs when they were killed in full view of camera crews. The horrifying visuals were circulated widely on social media platforms and television channels. Oppn leaders target UP govt after Atiq Ahmad, brother shot dead

    [ad_1]

Lucknow: Opposition leaders on Saturday questioned the law and order situation in Uttar Pradesh and demanded that the state government be dismissed after gangster-turned-politician Atiq Ahmad and his brother Ashraf were shot dead in Prayagraj.

The “cold-blooded” killings are the “height of anarchy” in Uttar Pradesh, BSP MP Danish Ali claimed.

Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav said crime has reached its peak in Uttar Pradesh and criminals are unfazed.

Ahmad (60) and Ashraf were shot dead at point-blank range by three men posing as journalists in the middle of a media interaction on Saturday night while police personnel were escorting them to a medical college here for a checkup.

The brothers, both jailed in Prayagraj, were in handcuffs when they were killed in full view of camera crews around 10 pm. The horrifying visuals were circulated widely on social media platforms and television channels.

Reacting to the incident, SP president Akhilesh Yadav said in a tweet in Hindi: “Crime has reached its peak in Uttar Pradesh and the criminals are unfazed. When someone can be shot dead amidst a police cordon, then what about the safety of the general public? An atmosphere of fear is being created among the public due to this and it seems that some people are deliberately creating such an atmosphere.”

Rashtriya Lok Dal (RLD) chief Jayant Chaudhary asked if ‘jungle raj’ prevails in the state.

“Nobody is sympathising with Atiq Ahmad because a criminal should be punished. But anyone who will see this video will question if we are a democracy. Every criminal has the right to be heard in court and be convicted there. But you can see they were killed in police custody in the open,” he said.

He further said, “The chief minister should answer what kind of law and order he has established in the state. Is this not jungle raj and a ground to call for emergency rule in UP?”

Video footage showed a man thrusting a gun at Ahmad’s head as he talks to reporters and the former SP MP collapsing. The footage also showed the three assailants firing at Ahmad and Ashraf even after they had fallen.

The bullet-riddled bodies of Ahmad and Ashraf were taken away from the spot as tension gripped the area after the sensational killings.

In a tweet, Rajya Sabha MP Kapil Sibal said, “Two murders in UP: 1) Atiq Ahmed and brother Ashraf 2) Rule of law.”

Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) MP from Amroha Danish Ali said the “cold-blooded” murder of Ahmad and his brother is the “height of anarchy” in Uttar Pradesh.

“This can’t happen without a go-ahead from the top. In any other democracy the state government must have been dismissed for such a heinous crime against the rule of law,” he said in a tweet.

The three assailants who fired at Ahmad and Ashraf were arrested immediately after the incident.

In a tweet in Hindi, Uttar Pradesh minister Swatantra Dev Singh said, “Sins and virtue are accounted for in this birth…”

The tragic end of Ahmad and his brother came on a day the ex-MP’s son Asad, who was killed in a police encounter in Jhansi on April 13, was buried in Prayagraj.

Ahmad and his brother were brought to Prayagraj for a court hearing in connection with the Umesh Pal murder case and were remanded in police custody.

Umesh Pal, a key witness in the murder case of BSP MLA Raju Pal, and his two police security guards were shot dead outside his Dhoomanganj residence here on February 24.

Based on a complaint lodged by Umesh Pal’s wife Jaya Pal, a case was registered on February 25 against Ahmad, Ashraf, Ahmad’s wife Shaista Parveen, two sons, aides Guddu Muslim and Ghulam, and nine others.

Atiq Ahmad seeks permission from magistrate to attend funeral of son

    [ad_1]

Prayagraj: Gangster-turned-politician Atiq Ahmad, who is currently in police custody in connection with the Umesh Pal murder case, has sought permission from a magistrate to attend the funeral of his son Asad who was killed in a police encounter.

Ahmed’s lawyer Manish Khanna told PTI that since Friday was a holiday on account of Ambedkar Jayanti, the request has been sent to the remand magistrate. The application will be presented in the court of chief judicial magistrate on Saturday, he said.

Atiq Ahmad and his brother Ashraf were interrogated by the police at Dhoomanganj police station on Friday. The duo were taken for a routine medical examination later in the evening.

    MS Education Academy

Asad and his accomplice Ghulam, both wanted in the Umesh Pal murder case, were shot dead in an exchange of fire with the Uttar Pradesh Police near Jhansi on Thursday.

The alleged encounter took place apparently at the time Ahmad was in a Prayagraj court, where he was presented before the chief judicial magistrate in connection with the same murder and remanded to 14-day judicial custody. The court also allowed a five-day remand for the UP Police to question him.

The relatives of Ahmed and Ghulam reached Jhansi on Friday evening to collect the bodies. The bodies will be brought by road and are expected to reach Prayagraj on Saturday.

On Friday evening, a large number of people gathered in Atiq Ahmed’s locality Kasari Masari following rumours that Asad’s body was being brought to Prayagraj. However, since the body has not been handed over to the relatives till late Friday evening, it is expected that the last rites would be performed on Saturday.

A police official said additional force would be deployed during Asad’s last rites so that no untoward incident takes place.

    [ad_1]

New Delhi: The Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Thursday said it has conducted raids on the premises of jailed gangster-turned-politician Atiq Ahmad and his associates, following which it seized Rs 75 lakh in cash along with some documents pertaining to nearly 200 bank accounts and 50 shell entities.

The ED said that cash transactions worth more than Rs 50 crore were also detected during the searches.

The raids were conducted at 15 locations.

According to a source, the raids were conducted at the premises belonging to chartered accountant Sabeeh Ahmed, Asif Jafri, Seetaram Shukla, real estate developers Sanjeev Aggarwal and Deepak Bhargav, advocate-cum-accomplice Saulat Hanif Khan and other aides Khalid Zafar, Asad, Vadood Ahmed, Kali and Mohsin.

“Atiq Ahmad and his aides were laundering the extortion money and the money which they collected through illegal activities. The documents seized during the raids confirm this. We seized papers of around 100 properties which are in the name of Atiq Ahmad’s close aides and other shell firms being run by them. These properties are suspected to be Atiq’s benami properties,” the ED said.

  • I’m reduced to dust, spare my family, pleads gangster-politician Atiq Ahmad

I’m reduced to dust, spare my family, pleads gangster-politician Atiq Ahmad

    [ad_1]

Lucknow: “I am totally reduced to dust, but please don’t trouble the women and children of my family now,” gangster-politician Atiq Ahmad told reporters from inside a police van on Wednesday, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath’s “mafiaaon ko mitti me mila denge” warning probably playing on his mind.

The 60-year-old former Samajwadi Party MLA, who faces more than 100 cases in Uttar Pradesh, was taken from the Sabarmati Central Jail in Ahmedabad to a prison in Prayagraj, more than 1000 kms away, by road in connection with the Umesh Pal murder case.

The police convoy taking Ahmad to Prayagraj left the Sabarmati Jail on Tuesday evening and entered into the Uttar Pradesh border from Jhansi at around 8.45 am. The convoy reached the Naini Central Jail in Prayagraj around 6 pm.

    MS Education Academy

While he was on the way, he spoke to the mediapersons from inside the police van. He pleaded the government to spare his family members, who are co-accused in several cases.

“Hum aapke jariye government se kehna chahte hain, bulkul mitti me mil gaye hain ab hamari auraoton aur bachchon ko pareshan na karein. (I want to tell the government through you (the media) that I am totally reduced to dust, but please don’t trouble the women and children of my family now,” Ahmad told a news channel from inside his police van between Jhansi and Prayagraj.

He will be produced before a court in Prayagraj on Thursday in the Umesh Pal murder case.

After Umesh Pal, a key witness in the 2005 murder of former BSP MLA Raju Pal in which Ahmad is an accused, was shot dead outside his residence in Prayagraj on February 24 this year Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath had said “mafiaaon ko mitti me mila denge (will reduce the mafia to dust)”.

“Mafiagiri toh pahle hi samapth ho gyi, ab toh ragada ja raha hai. Mafia-giri has already ended, now I am being hounded,” Ahmad said, when asked about his criminal acts.

Ahmad last month moved the Supreme Court for protection, claiming he and his family have been falsely implicated as accused in the Umesh Pal murder case in Prayagraj and he may be killed in a fake encounter by the Uttar Pradesh Police.

Asked about his son Asad, who is also wanted in the Umesh Pal murder case, Ahmad said, “How would I know, I am in jail.”

Earlier, when his convoy was in Madhya Pradesh, Ahmad claimed he was being harassed in the Sabarmati Central Jail in Gujarat.

“My family is ruined. I am safe because of you,” he told the member of the press.

“I have not telephoned anyone from there (inside the jail) as jammers were installed there. I have not hatched any conspiracy and am behind bars for the last six years,” he said.

After Umesh Pal and his two police security guards were killed, his wife Jaya Pal filed a complaint against Ahmad, his brother Ashraf, wife Shaista Parveen, two sons, aides Guddu Muslim and Ghulam, and nine others.

The Uttar Pradesh Police had on March 26 also taken Ahmad from the Sabarmati jail to Prayagraj to produce him in a court. On March 28, the court there had sentenced Ahmad and two others to life imprisonment in the 2006 Umesh Pal kidnapping case.

Ahmad was brought back to the high-security jail in Gujarat in a UP police van on March 29, after a nearly 24-hour-long road journey from Prayagraj.

In 2006, Atiq Ahmad and his aides abducted Umesh Pal and forced him to give a statement in court in their favour. Umesh Pal had registered a complaint in this regard.

The Supreme Court had in April 2019 directed that Ahmad be shifted to a high-security jail in Gujarat after he was accused of orchestrating the kidnapping and assault of a real estate businessman Mohit Jaiswal while in jail.

Gangster-politician Atiq Ahmad again taken to UP for questioning

    [ad_1]

Ahmedabad: Gangster-politician Atiq Ahmad was on Tuesday again taken from the Sabarmati Central Jail here to UP by a team of Uttar Pradesh Police in connection with the Umesh Pal murder case.

Earlier, Ahmad was taken from Ahmedabad to Prayagraj by the Uttar Pradesh Police on March 26 to produce him in court. On March 28, the court sentenced Ahmad and two others to life imprisonment in the 2006 Umesh Pal kidnapping case.

Ahmad and his aides had abducted Umesh Pal in 2006 and forced him to give a statement in court in their favour.

    MS Education Academy

After the sentence was passed, the 60-year-old former Uttar Pradesh MLA and Lok Sabha member was transported back to the high-security jail in Gujarat on March 29.

The Supreme Court had ordered Ahmad to be transferred to a high-security jail in Gujarat in April 2019 after he was accused of orchestrating the kidnapping of real estate businessman Mohit Jaiswal while in jail. Ahmad has been named in over 100 criminal cases, including the recent Umesh Pal murder case, according to the police.

Raju Pal, an MLA from the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP), was shot dead in 2005 in one of murders Ahmad is allegedly involved in. Umesh Pal, a key witness in this murder case, was killed outside his residence in Prayagraj on February 24 this year.

Ahmad moved the Supreme Court last month for protection, claiming that he and his family have been falsely accused in the Umesh Pal murder case in Prayagraj, and that he might be killed in a fake encounter by the Uttar Pradesh Police. In his plea, Ahmad had said that the Uttar Pradesh Police were likely seeking his transit remand and police remand to take him from Ahmedabad to Prayagraj and that he “genuinely apprehends that he may be eliminated during this transit period.”
