Mumbai: Bollywood actors Abhishek Bachchan and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan got married on April 20, 2007. On and after that day the couple along with Salman Khan who is Aishwarya’s ex-boyfriend were often hitting headlines but a model who claimed to be Abhishek Bachchan’s wife too grabbed media attention.

Yes, if you do know then we will tell you that the then-groom, Abhishek was questioned for being already married to a model named Jhanvi Kapoor. The model turned up right in front of Bachchan’s home, Pratiksha to claim that Abhishek was already married to her. The model who was also part of Abhishek’s film, Dus claimed that during the film’s shooting, Abhishek got involved with her.

Jhanvi Kapoor did not only blame Abhishek for cheating her but she further claimed that it was Aishwarya Rai who had stolen Abhishek from her, despite the fact that she was his wedded wife. The model filed a police complaint against Abhishek at the Juhu Police station in Mumbai to prove that she is junior Bachchan’s wife but due to lack of evidence, no case was registered.

Jhanvi Kapoor even attempted suicide by slitting her wrist to spoil Abhishek and Aishwarya’s marriage but it too did no work for her. She was taken into police custody on charges of attempting suicide under Section 309 of IPC that day and was given bail only after paying a hefty penalty of Rs. 10,000.

  • BJP’s intimidatory tactics won’t work, TMC will in 2026: Abhishek

BJP’s intimidatory tactics won’t work, TMC will in 2026: Abhishek

    [ad_1]

Kolkata: Senior TMC leader Abhishek Banerjee on Sunday asserted that more the BJP uses “intimidatory tactics” against West Bengal’s ruling party, the more number of seats it will get in the 2026 assembly polls, as people will resist the saffron camp’s “gameplan”.

Banerjee, while addressing a rally at Chopra in Uttar Dinajpur district, claimed that the Trinamool Congress will win not less than 240 seats in the next assembly elections.

He also maintained the BJP government at the Centre was intimidating opposition parties through frequent CBI and ED raids.

    MS Education Academy

“From 184 seats in 2011 assembly polls, we got 211 seats in 2016. It went up to 213 seats in the 2021 elections. And keep in mind, TMC will not get less than 240 seats in the 2026 polls. The more the BJP’s conspiracy against us grows using its agencies, the more our seats will go up, with people resisting their gameplan,” he said.

Banerjee recalled that during the 2021 polls, people had ignored the repeated visits by BJP leaders to Bengal and their “audacious display of power”, to vote the TMC to power for the third time.

“We will not cower due to their (BJP’s) threats unlike other parties. We will hit the streets with more protests,” he said.

Banerjee also accused the saffron party of withholding the release of Rs 7,500-crore dues to the state, and said he will lead TMC activists to Delhi next month for an “indefinite sit-in to force the Centre to take note of the woes of the people of Bengal”.

He said in stark contrast to the Centre’s “step-motherly” treatment to Bengal, the state government has spent Rs 3,500 crore under the rural roads housing project, irrespective of whether a region had elected TMC representatives to power in the last panchayat polls.

“We produce our report card before the people where every electoral promise from Lakshmir Bhandar, Swastha Saathi’, Aikashree’ to Students Credit Card is accounted for. Can the BJP MPs, MLAs and panchayat members show such a report card? I challenge them. They only know to discriminate,” the TMC national general secretary said.

The Diamond Harbour MP also claimed that while the state government is providing Rs 500 or Rs 1,000 to women under the Lakshmir Bhandar’ scheme, the Narendra Modi government is “extracting Rs 1,000” from citizens for linking Aadhaar with PAN.

Abhishek cautions party workers against violence during TMC mass outreach campaign

    [ad_1]

Cooch Behar: Senior TMC leader Abhishek Banerjee on Wednesday cautioned a section of party workers against using strong-arm tactics to manipulate public opinion on selecting candidates for the West Bengal panchayat polls during its mass outreach programme.

His remarks came a day after the inaugural day of the much-touted mass outreach campaign was marred by ruckus as infighting within the TMC came out in the open over the secret ballot voting process as two groups came down to blows during the event.

Banerjee, the TMC national general secretary, said those opposed to the programme, ‘Trinamool-ey Nabajowar’ (new wave in Trinamool), are free to leave the party.

    MS Education Academy

Miffed over the incident, Banerjee had said the secret voting process would be conducted again there on Wednesday and cautioned that if some people think they can hijack the process of candidate selection through muscle power, “They are living in a fool’s paradise.”

While addressing a rally at Cooch Behar Dakshin constituency on the second day of his tour, he said, “If some people think that by multiple requests or by ensuring more votes through unfair means, they can secure their candidature, they are wrong,”

Banerjee, considered number two in the TMC, said the campaign would empower people to choose their own candidates through a secret ballot, whom the party would give nominations in the panchayat polls.

“Those unhappy with the programme are free to leave the party. We don’t want rotten elements in our party. One of the aims of this campaign is to cleanse the Panchayati Raj system,” he said.

Hitting out at BJP legislators from Cooch Behar district for not fighting for people’s rights in the area, Banerjee said locals must gherao the houses of such public representatives and seek answers.

“The BJP MLAs don’t fight for the rights of the people. They sport saffron tilak, wear a saffron scarf, enter the Assembly raising Jai Shri Ram slogans, and leave it shouting the same. People must gherao the houses of those who were elected from here as they have not worked for the people,” he said.

Banerjee, the nephew of West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, said that in the next two months, he will be staying on the streets and travelling more than 3500 km – from Cooch Behar in the northern part of the state to Kakdwip in the southern.

TMC’s Abhishek warns party activists against violence during rural polls

    [ad_1]

Kolkata: Senior Trinamool Congress leader Abhishek Banerjee on Monday warned party activists against resorting to strong-arm tactics during the upcoming panchayat elections in West Bengal and said there should not be a repeat of the 2018 rural polls, during which widespread violence was reported, a party leader said.

Banerjee, who held a two-hour organisational meeting with the TMC’s district units on Monday via video-conferencing, said the party will not tolerate infighting during the panchayat polls and asked everyone to unitedly fight against the opposition.

“Abhishek Banerjee has said infighting will not be tolerated. The party has to put up a united fight in the panchayat polls. He has also warned against violence as such incidents tarnish the party’s image,” a TMC leader privy to the proceedings of the meeting said.

    MS Education Academy

“He said this year’s panchayat polls will be held in a peaceful atmosphere, not like 2018,” he said.

Referring to the widespread violence during the 2018 rural polls, which was followed by the party’s poor show in Lok Sabha polls next year, Banerjee said that anyone thinking that he can win elections through muscle power is wrong.

“Abhishek Banerjee said that like MLAs and MPs, those seeking to win in panchayat polls have to undergo grind. It won’t be tolerated if someone thinks he will win unopposed and tarnish the party’s image to secure his seat. He said we won fewer seats in 2019 Lok Sabha polls due to widespread violence in 2018 rural elections,” the party leader said.

Banerjee said the TMC will comfortably get an overwhelming mandate owing to the development work done in the last 12 years, he said, adding that strict scrutiny will be done while selecting candidates and those with a clean image will be given preference.

The TMC presently controls all the Zilla Parishads and most of the gram panchayats in the state.

Widespread violence, incidents of rigging and clashes with police were reported from various parts of the state during the 2018 rural polls.

The following year, TMC’s tally in the 2019 Lok Sabha polls came down from 34 to 22, and the BJP’s count went up from two to 18 in the state.

If Rahul is disqualified, why not Modi for hurting women’s sentiment: TMC’s Abhishek

    [ad_1]

Kolkata: Senior TMC leader Abhishek Banerjee on Wednesday said if Rahul Gandhi can be disqualified for his comments about a community, then why similar action cannot be taken against Prime Minister Narendra Modi for hurting the sentiment of women by his taunts against Mamata Banerjee.

Addressing a rally at Shahid Minar Grounds here, the Trinamool Congress national general secretary asked the party’s legal cell to file a case against the Leader of the Opposition in the West Bengal Assembly, Suvendu Adhikari, seeking his disqualification from the House for allegedly insulting a woman minister from the tribal community.

Banerjee said he may not support Gandhi’s comment that led to his disqualification from the Lok Sabha following a court order, but he condemns the way it was done.

“Why will the PM not be disqualified for hurting the sentiment of women by mocking West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee with his ‘Didi O Didi’ taunts during the 2021 assembly polls campaign? We demand that action be taken in that case too,” he said.

The Diamond Harbour MP, who is also the nephew of party supremo Mamata Banerjee, asked his party leaders to file a case against Suvendu Adhikari for hurting the sentiments of the Scheduled Tribe community in the state.

“Why will no action be taken against Adhikari for hurting the sentiment of the ST community for saying that minister Birbaha Hansda’s place was beneath his shoe? Does this not tantamount to insulting the STs? He, too, must be disqualified as an MLA,” he said.

Banerjee referred to a viral video clip in which Adhikari was purportedly heard last year telling a group of people, “(TMC MLA) Debnath Hansda and Birbaha Hansda are kids. Their place is beneath my shoe.”

PTI, however, could not verify the authenticity of the video clip. Birbaha Hansda had filed a police complaint against Adhikari.

Lashing out at the BJP-led Union government for allegedly misusing the central agencies, the TMC leader said efforts are underway to malign the ruling party in West Bengal.

“Today, we are here to protest against the Centre’s step-motherly attitude towards West Bengal. If the dues of the state are not cleared, I will stage a protest in New Delhi and fight for our rights. The Centre owes lakhs of crores of rupees to the state. You can’t scare me with the threat of ED and CBI. You can lodge as many as you want,” he added.

Banerjee has been questioned by the ED in connection with a coal smuggling case.

Referring to several corruption cases that have plagued the TMC government, Banerjee said if it is proved that some wrong has been committed, the law must take its own course.

“But this pick-and-choose politics must stop. If you are a BJP member, you are above the law, but if you are from the TMC, you will be harassed and arrested. The law should not be different for the BJP,” he said.

Banerjee said the TMC did not think twice before taking action against its senior Leader Partha Chatterjee when his alleged involvement in the teacher recruitment scam came out in the open last year.

“Don’t hesitate to call yourself a TMC leader; rather, feel proud about it. Because it is the TMC, which has taken action against its senior Leader Partha Chatterjee within a week,” he said.

Reacting to Banerjee’s accusations, BJP national vice-president Dilip Ghosh asked the TMC to move court if its any allegations against the saffron camp.

“The allegations against the BJP are baseless. There is nothing wrong in calling a thief by his or her name,” Ghosh said.

Excise policy scam: Delhi HC’s notice to ED on bizman Abhishek Boinpally’s plea

    [ad_1]

New Delhi: The Delhi High Court on Monday issued a notice to the Enforcement Directorate (ED) over Hyderabad businessman Abhishek Boinpally’s plea against the trial court’s order denying him bail in the alleged Delhi excise policy scam case.

Boinpally had moved the High Court on March 14.

Appearing for Boinpally, his senior counsel apprised the bench of Justice Dinesh Kumar Sharma that his client’s son’s admission is hanging as both the parents have to appear in the school these days.

The court then issued notice to ED while keeping the issue of maintainability open and listed the matter for the next hearing on April 12.

During the last hearing, Boinpally’s plea was opposed by the ED saying that it lacks maintainability.

Boinpally’s counsel had contended that his client is in custody since October 2022.

Boinpally was a Director of Anoos Electrolysis & Obesity Pvt. Ltd, Anoos Health & Wellness Pvt. Ltd., Robin Distribution LLP, Agasti Ventures, SS Mines & Minerals, Master Sand LLP, Neoverse Realty Pvt. Ltd., Zeus Networking Pvt. Ltd and Valuecare Esthetic Pvt. Ltd.

On February 16, four others — Vijay Nair, Sarath Chandra Reddy, Sameer Mahendru and Benoy Babu — were also denied bail by the Special Judge, Rouse Avenue Courts, M.K. Nagpal, who held that the method adopted by the five of them for committing the offences under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) makes up for sufficient incriminating evidence.

As the ED has already made serious allegations of tampering evidence against them, the court had said that it will also be not possible to hold that the accused persons will not try to tamper with the evidence in the case if they are released on bail.

“Keeping in view the totality of facts and circumstances and the above discussion, this court is of the considered opinion that none of the applicants/accused deserves to be released on bail in this case at this stage of proceedings as the allegations made against them are quite serious and relate to commission of an economic offence of money-laundering defined by Section 3 and made punishable by Section 4 of the PMLA. Hence, their bail applications are being dismissed,” the court had said.

On March 16, a Delhi court extended another Hyderabad-based businessman Arun Ramchandra Pillai’s ED custody till Monday in the same case.

Special Judge M.K. Nagpal of the Rouse Avenue Courts had noted that the ED had gathered some new details after a confrontation with Butchi Babu Gorantla, Hyderabad-based chartered accountant, on March 15.

The probe agency has alleged that Pillai was involved in forming a cartel (now called South Group) of manufacturers, wholesalers and retailers which controlled more than 30 per cent of the liquor business in the national capital.

The ED named the cartel, South Group, which includes BRS leader K. Kavitha, Sarath Reddy, the promoter of Aurobindo Pharma, YSRCP MP from Ongole, Magunta Srinivasulu Reddy, his son Raghav Magunta and others.

The South Group was represented by Pillai, Boinpally and Butchi Babu, the agency has claimed.

New Delhi: Hyderabad businessman Abhishek Boinpally on Tuesday moved the Delhi High Court against the trial court’s order denying him bail in the alleged Delhi excise policy scam case registered by the Enforcement Directorate (ED).

Counsel representing Boinpally contended that his client is in custody since October 2022.

The plea was, however, opposed by the ED saying that it lacks maintainability.

A bench of Justice Dinesh Kumar Sharma posted the matter for the next hearing on April 20, after hearing the arguments.

Boinpally was a Director of Anoos Electrolysis & Obesity Pvt. Ltd, Anoos Health & Wellness Pvt. Ltd., Robin Distribution LLP, Agasti Ventures, SS Mines & Minerals, Master Sand LLP, Neoverse Realty Pvt. Ltd., Zeus Networking Pvt. Ltd and Valuecare Esthetic Pvt. Ltd.

Hence, their bail applications are being dismissed,” the court had said.

On Monday, the court also extended Hyderabad-based businessman Arun Ramchandra Pillai’s ED custody by three days in the case.

He was arrested on March 6 after hours of questioning in the case.

Judge Nagpal sent Pillai to ED custody on March 7, which expired on Monday.

His arrest makes up for the 11th arrest made in the matter by the ED.

The ED has alleged that Pillai was involved in forming a cartel (now called South Group) of manufacturers, wholesalers and retailers which controlled more than 30 per cent of the liquor business in the national capital.

The central agency named the said cartel, South group, which includes BRS leader K.
