BJP Not Ready To Face People, Delaying JK Elections: Omar Abdullah

    [ad_1]

SRINAGAR: The Jammu and Kashmir National Conference Vice President Omar Abdullah on Tuesday said that BJP is delaying elections and shying away from facing people because it wasn’t able to live upto the hype on providing jobs, and ushering in development.

“The post 2019 chapter in both Jammu and Kashmir provinces has been marked by job losses, economic slump and outsourcing of contracts. So me people were e very happy on the abrogation, but their happiness was short lived. Everyone is suffering, right from traders to job aspirants, employees to agriculturalists, traders to miners, contractors to manufacturers. People are suffering from a plethora of issues all at the same time but the government is completely blind to their plight.” Omar said

Omar while addressing a rally at Nagrota, Jammu said that the public gathering has proved that NC is the only credible voice of people, having deep rooted and credible footprints across Jammu, Pir Panjal, Chenab and Kashmir regions.

In his address, Omar said, “Today’s function has refuted the notion that there is no hide and hair of NC in the plains of Jammu and that NC was only existent in Kashmir. Again people have rejected such false propaganda and showed how deep rooted NC is across all the regions of JK. It’s not an individual, who the people support, but the vision and mission of the party that the people connect to.”

Omar said that Jammu and Kashmir despite having cultural and geographical differences are connected by the widespread feeling of despondency. People are anxious; no one knows when a new order will be issued dispossessing them of their rights,

Lamenting the government on its failure to script a promised turnaround in four years since the decisions of August 05, 2019, he said, “It was said that NC was responsible for JK people’s woes. What good have they achieved now? Where are those promised jobs? Where is the much touted development? Leave alone coming up with job orders, they are not able to come up with selection lists.”

He said that the government is not thinking in terms of helping people but frightening them. Parading of newly purchased bulldozers meant for demolition, he said, was a case in point.

“After drawing much slack on the issue, the central government had asked the incumbent JK government to put hold on the headless demolition. But the local administration didn’t stop there, it came up with imposition of property tax on the houses, which it wasn’t able to demolish. It was told that the measure isn’t meant to gather revenue. If the purpose behind the measure was not to generate revenue, then why was the tax imposed in the first place. It means that the measure was only meant to intimidate people,” he said.

BJP Frightened To Face People In Elections: Omar Abdullah

    [ad_1]

SRINAGAR: The Jammu and Kashmir National Conference Vice President Omar Abdullah on Thursday said the NC is the only party striving for the restoration of statehood and fundamental rights of people of Jammu and Kashmir.

Addressing a one day workers convention at Aarigam, Khansahib in Budgam Omar said that it was imperative for workers to strengthen JKNC, which he asserted was the only party working to stop the caravan of BJP.

He further said that if people are happy with exorbitant taxation, soaring unemployment and demolition drive, then they should vote for the BJP. “If you want an end to unemployment, anti people, anti JK actions, then you should strengthen NC on ground.

“While other parties, the A and B teams have accepted the decisions of August, 2019, it’s NC which is striving for the restoration of our people’s pride, their land, cultural, democratic, constitutional and fundamental rights,” he said.

Governments actions, he said are light years away from healing the wounds of people. “The lands which were given to people by Sheikh sahib are being snatched away. Our resources, Jobs being out sourced,” he said.

Questioning the government claims of ushering in employment extravaganza in JK, he said what was claimed is not visible on ground. “Where are those thousands of jobs? Where is that promised investment? All the promises have ringed hollow and miserably failed to live up to it’s hype. Not even a day passes, when one or the other selection list ends up in a scandal.”

“As far as tourism sector is concerned, we had vacated the meadows from security forces, since then their has been no headway in bringing the area on the tourist map of region and country,” Omar said adding, “Locals wouldn’t benefit in wake of such process. Had government given them easy loans for establishment of restaurants, and hotels, the economic condition of the area would have been different. However nothing has been done to improve the economic condition of my brothers and sisters living around the meadow.”

  • ECI Has Assured To Look Into The Matter Of Elections In JK:  Farooq Abdullah

    [ad_1]

SRINAGAR: National Conference president Dr Farooq Abdullah on Thursday said that the Election Commission of India has assured them they will do something soon on their demand of holding elections in Jammu and Kashmir.

Talking to news agency KNO, the former CM of JK said that Election Commission assured the delegation that they will do something soon on their demand.

“They assured everyone that they will do something soon over the demand for elections in Jammu and Kashmir,” he said.

Jammu and Kashmir is without an elected Government since June 19, 2019 when BJP withdrew support to Mehbooba Mufti-led government, citing the deteriorating security situation in the erstwhile state of Jammu & Kashmir.

The two-year long delimitation process was completed on May 5, 2022 when the three-member panel headed by justice (retired) Ranjana Desai unveiled final electoral map of J&K. The voter revision process was also completed on November 25, 2022.

A delegation of regional political parties and national parties met the poll-body today in New Delhi and sought immediate restoration of democracy in the Union Territory.

The memorandum submitted by the parties today to the ECI states that the Panchayat elections and other PRI elections cannot be a substitute to legislative assembly elections and the government or for that matter the ECI cannot avoid and delay assembly elections on that ground.

Meeting Government, A Futile Exercise: Omar Abdullah

    [ad_1]

SRINAGAR: Former Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir Omar Abdullah on Thursday demanded the release of all political prisoners including former legislature Engineer Rashid.

In response to a question, Omar Abdullah said that not only Engineer Rashid, but all those Kashmiris incarcerated in different jails should be released. He said Public Safety Act should go once and for all.

Omar Abdullah was talking to reporters on the sidelines of a party convention at the Aarigam Khansahab area of Central Kashmir’s Budgam district.

He admitted that a delegation from Jammu and Kashmir is meeting the Election Commission of India to know the reason for the delay in conducting elections in Jammu and Kashmir. “There is nothing wrong in meeting the Election Commission which is responsible for holding elections across India. The delegation wants to know what wrong did Jammu Kashmir do that people here are being deprived of having their own elected government.”

Omar Abdullah as per the news agency Kashmir News Trust said that the last time elections were conducted was in 2014 in Jammu and Kashmir and since then there is no elected government.

When asked why they are always meeting the opposition leaders and not the government, Omar Abdullah said there is no fun in meeting the government as it doesn’t budge and doesn’t listen to them. “We have stopped meeting the government as it is a futile exercise,” he said.

Omar Abdullah said except for the Opposition there is nobody in Jammu and Kashmir while the government dictates the terms and doesn’t take people or political leaders on board.

“Government only knows how to harass people. When we tried to meet the government, it didn’t oblige.”

Regarding the deferment of examinations by JKSSB after a row over the APTECH job recruiting agency, Omar Abdullah said it was better late than never. However, he demanded a thorough probe and said there is something fishy and people wanted to know why a blacklisted agency got the contract in Jammu and Kashmir. [KNT]

Satya Pal Malik’s Security Cover Downgraded, Omar Abdullah Reacts

    [ad_1]

SRINAGAR: Former Jammu and Kashmir Governor Satya Pal Malik criticised the Union government for downgrading his security cover.

In an interview with India Today, Malik said his security cover has been downgraded just because he spoke on the farmers issue and the Centre’s Agniveer scheme.

Satya Pal Malik said that instead of Z+ security cover, a personal security officer (PSO) would now be deployed for his security.

“I would like to say that I am not joining any political party. I am not a political person. But if something happens to me, please come to Delhi,” Malik told India Today.

Maintaining that the security cover of NN Vohra, who served as JK Governor from 2008 to 2018, was still intact, Malik said he has written to the home ministry about the issue but no response has been received so far as to why his security cover was downgraded and what was the reason behind the move.

India Today reported that while the protocol is to provide lifetime security cover to presidents and prime ministers, security cover is provided to governors and lieutenant governors based on intelligence reports from security agencies.

Satya Pal Malik was the Jammu and Kashmir Governor in 2019 when the Article 370 of the Constitution was read down and the state was split into two union territories

Reacting to Malik’s claims, NC Vice president, Omar Abdullah said, “What goes around comes around, jaisa karoge vaisa bharoge. He messed with a lot of peoples’ security, including mine and of my senior colleagues.” Omar wrote on his Twitter.

Farooq Abdullah welcomes Iran, Saudi Arabia’s decision to resume ties

    [ad_1]

Srinagar: National Conference president Farooq Abdullah on Saturday welcomed Iran and Saudi Arabia’s decision to re-establish diplomatic relations after years of tensions and expressed hope that it will act as a harbinger of greater cooperation in the Islamic world.

Iran and Saudi Arabia on Friday agreed to resume diplomatic relations and reopen embassies after seven years of tensions. The major diplomatic breakthrough was negotiated with China.

Tensions have been high between Iran and Saudi Arabia. The kingdom broke off ties with Iran in 2016 after protesters invaded Saudi diplomatic posts there.

“Restoration of ties and reopening of diplomatic missions between the two countries is a welcome step that will have wide-ranging implications across the Muslim world,” Abdullah said in a statement here.

The former Union minister expressed hope the move will act as a harbinger of greater cooperation in the Islamic world in particular and the world community in general.

“This dialling down of tensions and de-escalation will not just benefit the Gulf region, but the world at large,” Abdullah said.
