Manipur violence: AAI helps stranded passengers at Imphal airport

New Delhi: Amid unrest in parts of Manipur, the Airports Authority of India (AAI) has taken various measures to help air passengers while airlines have waived rescheduling and cancellation charges for flights to and from the capital city of Imphal.
Curfew was relaxed on Sunday in parts of Manipur which saw ethnic rioting over the last few days.
According to a civil aviation ministry official, the Airports Authority of India is coordinating with the state government to transport stranded passengers from the airport to the city under escort. A help desk has also been set up with effect from May 4.

The help desk counter is provided with an AAI LAN internet facility to print tickets as internet services are unavailable in the state, as per the official.
The official added that there were 10,531 passengers at Imphal airport and the total flight movements handled were 108 till May 6, including 50 defence movements and 6 additional flights.
Air India and IndiGo have waived fees for rescheduling/cancelling all their flights to and from Imphal from May 4 to 7.
In a release on Sunday, Air India said it operated special flights to and from Imphal on May 6 and 7. IndiGo, on Saturday, said it operated two special flights from Imphal to Kolkata.

Shiv Thakare recounts ‘Bigg Boss 16’ journey in his music video ‘Aai Shapphat’

Mumbai: Shiv Thakare, known for participating in the reality show ‘Bigg Boss 16’, has collaborated with music composer Mayur Jumani for the one-minute music video ‘Aai Shapphat’, which captures his journey on the reality show.
While MC Stan lifted the trophy on ‘Bigg Boss 16’, Shiv emerged as the first runner-up.
He shared a friendly bond with Abdu Rozik and a close bond with Nimrit Kaur on the show. The video captures a few of his catchwords also.

Talking about the peppy track, Shiv said: “One day I got a call from Mayur, he said I have made this song called ‘Aai Shapphat’ which captures your ‘Bigg Boss season 16’ journey, can you meet and discuss the same? I always appreciate and respect people around me. So I took time and went to meet him and when I listened to what he had made, I was so happy and felt blessed about it.”
Shiv has also participated in reality shows like MTV’s Roadies Rising’, ‘Bigg Boss Marathi 2’, and recently became a guest commentator in one of the matches of IPL 2023 between Rajasthan Royals and Delhi Capitals.
Sharing more about his collaboration with Mayur, Shiv said: “I know Mayur. He is a very creative person and does make such things. In one minute, he has shown my full journey of Bigg Boss, from words like ‘Aai Shappath’, ‘Aai Cha Gawat’, ‘O Mandali’ to love from people and Ganpati Bappa. He just asked me for my time to shoot the video.”
Talking about what he liked about the video, Bigg Boss 16 finalist said: “The way I was portrayed in it.”
“The way he presented Shiv Thakare I really enjoyed watching it and people also loved it. Within an hour of posting it, people started sharing, liking, and commenting on it. Also, it has gone viral to the extent that people have started calling me and complimenting me personally,” Shiv said.

Praising Mayur, he said: “While shooting for the video also, Mayur was so concerned about me. He keeps asking me whether I am comfortable with certain dance steps or not.”

AAI gives target to airports to achieve 100 pc use of Green Energy by 2024

New Delhi: The Airport Authority of India (AAI) has given the target to most of the airports to achieve 100 per cent use of Green Energy by 2024 and Net Zero by 2030.
Currently Mumbai, Cochin and 25 other AAI Airports are using 100 per cent Green Energy.
Cochin Airport is the first green airport in the world, fully powered by solar energy.
The 25 airports include Puducherry, Kanpur (Civil), Hubballi, Belagavi, Mysore, Tezu, Kangra, Shimla, Kullu, Jammu, Srinagar, Leh, Imphal, Pakyong, Pantnagar, Dehradun, Dimapur, Jalgaon, Kohlapur, Pune, Aurangabad, Gondia, Akola, Sholapur and Juhu.
As per the officials, AAI has given targets to achieve 100 per cent Green Energy at its remaining operational airports by 2024.
The Airports Council International (ACI) has launched the Airport Carbon Accreditation programme, which is a global standard for carbon management at airports.
The programme helps airports to assess their carbon emissions, develop a carbon management plan, and reduce their carbon footprint.
Delhi and Mumbai airports, the top two major airports in the country, have achieved the highest Level 4+ Carbon Accreditation of ACI.

As on date, there are only three airports in Asia-Pacific that have achieved this feat. Hyderabad and Bengaluru have also achieved the status of being Carbon Neutral (Level 3+).
Officials said that AAI at Kolkata, Bhubaneswar and Varanasi Airports has achieved Level 2 Airport Carbon accreditation in December 2019 and is in process of ACI-ACA Level 2 certification for 23 more airports.
AAI has already installed Solar Power Plants at various airports with cumulative capacity of more than 54 MWp as on date. AAI is also procuring around 53 million units of solar energy through open access and green power tariff, thus enhancing Renewable Energy (RE) share as on date to about 35 per cent of total electrical consumption of AAI airports.
Officials said that the Airports Authority of India has chalked out the plan for its scheduled operational airports and has taken initiatives such as Energy Intensity Data publication, reducing energy intensity for existing as well as upcoming airport projects.
A training module has been created as a part of an induction training programme for Air Traffic Controllers to sensitise them towards Carbon Neutrality.
