    New Delhi: Mukesh Ambani, Chairman and Managing Director, Reliance Industries, was ranked 9th in the Forbes’ 37th annual World’s Billionaires List 2023, with an estimated net worth of $83.4 billion. He maintained his position as the wealthiest individual in Asia.

    Ambani was ranked 10th in the prestigious list last year, with an estimated net worth of $90.7 billion.

    In the latest list this year, Ambani is ranked higher than the likes of Steve Ballmer of Microsoft, Larry Page and Sergey Brin of Google, Mark Zuckerberg of Facebook and Michael Dell of Dell Technologies.

    Gautam Adani remained India’s second most wealthy person, but slipped to the 24th rank globally following the recent rout in share prices of Adani Group companies. His net worth was estimated at $47.2 billion.

    Shiv Nadar of HCL Technologies is the third among Indians on the list with a net worth of $25.6 billion and a global rank of 55.

    While the Forbes’ global count of billionaires slipped from 2,668 last year to 2,640 in 2023, the tally in India improved from 166 in 2022 to 169 this year.

    Forbes noted that falling stocks, wounded unicorns and rising interest rates translated into a down year for the world’s wealthiest people.

    Altogether, the planet’s billionaires are now worth $12.2 trillion, a drop of $500 billion from $12.7 trillion in March 2022.

    According to Forbes, the US still boasts the most billionaires, with 735 list members worth a collective $4.5 trillion. China (including Hong Kong and Macau) remains second, with 562 billionaires worth $2 trillion, followed by India, with 169 billionaires worth $675 billion.

    To calculate net worth, Forbes used stock prices and exchange rates from March 10, 2023.

    Srinagar, Mar 03 : Authorities in Jammu and Kashmir are all set to implement the Students Police Cadet (SPC) Scheme among the students of 8th and 9th standard.

    In this regard, OSD with Director of School Education Kashmir (DSEK) has sought details of already identified students from Chief Education Officers (CEOs) of the region.

    The news agency Kashmir News Observer (KNO) has leant that the OSD in a letter to CEOs has said, “I am directed to request you to furnish the list of already identified students of 8th and 9th class for Implementation of SPC scheme in the UT of Jammu & Kashmir.”

    The officer has further said that the list should reach DSEK by or before March-6-2023.

    According to the official documents, more than 1400 students of classes 8th and 9th have been identified from all districts of the region.

    Pertinently, SPC project is a school-based youth development initiative that trains high school students to evolve as future leaders of a democratic society by inculcating within them respect for the law, discipline, civic sense, empathy for vulnerable sections of society and resistance to social evils.

    The project also enables youth to explore and develop their innate capabilities, thereby empowering them to resist the growth of negative tendencies such as social intolerance, substance abuse, deviant behavior, and anti-establishment violence.

    Equally, it strengthens within them commitment towards their family, the community, and the environment—(KNO)

    Directed banks to saturate self-employment to bring the unemployment rate in J&K to its lowest

    Jammu, Mar 2 (GNS): J&K Government is committed to bring down the unemployment in J&K to below 5% and for this banks need to put a well drilled mechanism for saturating the self- employment. This was stated by Chief Secretary, Dr Arun Kumar Mehta while chairing the 9th Union Territory Level Bankers’ Committee meeting in Jammu to review achievements of banks and financial institutions operating in Jammu and Kashmir for the quarter ended December 2022.

    Principal Secretary, Industries & Commerce, Prashant Goyal, MD & CEO, J&K Bank (Convenor J&K UTLBC) Baldev Prakash, Chief General Manager, NABARD, Dr. A. K. Sood, General Manager RBI Neeraj Kumar and other senior functionaries of the Government, RBI, NABARD, Banks, line departments, insurance companies and Lead District Managers were also present on the occasion.

    In his opening remarks, the Chief Secretary, Dr Arun Kumar Mehta while applauding the efforts made by J&K Bank in providing coverage and credit to people under various employment generation schemes, urged other banks to follow the suit. He stated that employment generation is the major challenge the Government is facing and it was collective responsibility of all stakeholders to address the issue.

    “Banks need to come forward and provide financial assistance to the unemployed youth who genuinely need it for achieving the gainful employment. We need to show empathy towards the unemployed youth in guiding them towards the path of prosperity and self-sufficiency through various credit facilities tailored in accordance to their entrepreneurial aspirations.

    Chief Secretary impressed upon the banks to improve the ease of availing banking facilities so that the common people do not shy away to come under the ambit of banking.

    Earlier in his welcome address MD & CEO J&K Bank, Baldev Prakash assured J&K Government that banks operating in J&K will extend all possible support for implementing the programmes and schemes aimed at entrepreneurial development, employment generation and poverty alleviation in Union Territory of Jammu & Kashmir.

    While appreciating banks for 100% coverage of the unbanked villages by opening of banking touch points under National Strategy for Financial Inclusion Programme the chief secretary impressed upon the banks to expedite the roll out of brick and mortar branches in remaining villages out of the10 identified with population over 3000.

    While hailing J&K’s performance under PM SVANidhi, he impressed upon banks to expedite disbursal under second and third tranche to the eligible beneficiaries in a time bound manner.”

    Earlier General Manager J&K Bank, Syed Rais Maqbool while making presentation on the financial achievements of various banks in different sectors during the first three quarters of Financial year 2022-23 informed that banks in J&K have achieved 66% of the Target under Annual Credit Plan by disbursing credit of Rs.33,363.47 Crore to 10,69,626 beneficiaries.

    It was informed that against the Annual Target to cover 30,410 beneficiaries, banks have sanctioned loans to the tune of Rs 1735.61 Crore to 42,354 beneficiaries under major employment generation schemes during current financial year.

    He informed that under the ‘Back To Village’ and ‘My Town My Pride’ programmes of J&K Government banks have sourced 66,883 applications of which 58,446 applications have been sanctioned and amount of Rs.1099.88 Crore has been disbursed.(GNS)

    Srinagar, Feb 23 : In order to commence with new classwork, School Education Department Thursday ordered completion of examinations of Classes 1st to 7th and 9th till March-20.

    According to the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), Director of School Education Kashmir (DSEK) said this in a communique to Chief Education Officers and Principal of all DIETs.

    The official said, “The examinations of Classes 1st to 7th and 9th are school based as per the guidelines formulated by SCERT J&K and in this regard students are quite well prepared and waiting for the conduct of the examinations as per the feedback from the school heads.”

    “You are requested to instruct the schools Heads of your district to complete the process of examinations up-to March-20 2023 so that the classwork of new classes can be started immediately,” DSEK said.

    Pertinently the modus operand of the examinations has already been communicated to CEOs and DIETs by SCERT J&K.

    A day before, KNO reported that the Term End exams for Classes Ist to 7th and 9th in district Srinagar will be held from the second week of March as per the old pattern.

    Officials further said that the date sheet and the assessment of these classes would be done by the respective authorities of the school.

    District Institute of Education and Training (DIET) Principal Srinagar, Tahira Hilali said, “This year the exams would be held as per the old pattern and from next session, we will conduct the exams as per the New Education Policy (NEP).”
