ASCOMS Doctors announced Strike in Solidarity with Kolkata Tragedy

Jammu, August 15, 2024 — The Resident Doctors’ Association (RDA) of Acharya Shri Chander College of Medical Sciences (ASCOMS) and Hospital, Jammu, has issued a press release expressing their deep concern and outrage over the recent tragic incident at R.G. Kar Medical College and Hospital, Kolkata. On August 9, 2024, a second-year female postgraduate resident in chest medicine was brutally sexually assaulted and murdered in the hospital’s seminar hall, a crime that has shocked the entire medical community across India.

In response to this horrific event, medical professionals across the nation have initiated protests demanding justice and stronger security measures for healthcare workers. Joining this nationwide movement, the RDA at ASCOMS, along with interns, undergraduate students, and nursing staff, has declared their full support and participation in the protests.

In a press release, the RDA stated, “This crime should awaken the human inside us and should move our souls to join this movement. We implore everybody to join us.” They extended their deepest condolences to the victim’s family, friends, and fellow residents, emphasizing the need for immediate and unbiased investigation and action.

The RDA has put forth several demands, including:

    1. Immediate justice for the victim through an unbiased CBI investigation and the swift identification of all culprits.
    2. Exemplary punishment for the perpetrators of this heinous crime.
    3. Nationwide implementation of a strict “Central Healthcare Protection Act” to safeguard medical professionals.
    4. Assurance of security for all doctors across India, under stringent regulations governed by the National Medical Commission (NMC).

ASCOMS, Jammu, Doctors Go on Strike Following Tragic Incident at Kolkata Medical College

    Impact on Hospital Services

In light of their participation in the protest, the RDA has announced that all Outpatient Department (OPD) services and elective surgeries at ASCOMS Hospital, Jammu, will be temporarily suspended starting August 16, 2024. The association has urged the public to refrain from visiting the hospital for non-urgent or minimal complaints during this period.

However, the RDA has assured that emergency services, including NICU, SICU, and MICU, will remain fully operational. Patients in critical condition or requiring urgent care will be attended to by the hospital’s emergency team.

The Resident Doctors’ Association expressed their regret for any inconvenience this strike may cause to the public and thanked the community for their understanding and cooperation during this difficult time.

    Public and Institutional Response

The RDA’s press release was copied to the Director Principal and Medical Superintendent of ASCOMS Hospital, all Heads of Departments, the Resident Doctors’ Association at GMC Jammu, media houses across Jammu and Kashmir, and other affiliated medical centers.

The strike at ASCOMS is part of a broader movement within the medical fraternity, demanding safety, justice, and better working conditions for healthcare professionals nationwide. The public is urged to stay informed and support the ongoing struggle for a safer and more just healthcare system in India.

  • ASCOMS Jammu Doctors Lead Protests Over Kolkata Rape-Murder

ASCOMS Jammu Doctors Lead Protests Over Kolkata Rape-Murder

Jammu, India – The tragic rape and murder of a 31-year-old juniors doctor at Kolkata’s RG Kar Medical College and Hospital has ignited widespread outrage, with doctors from the Acharya Shri Chander College of Medical Sciences (ASCOMS) in Jammu emerging at the forefront of protests. These protests are a call to action for stronger safety measures and protections for medical professionals who are increasingly finding themselves vulnerable to violence and threats in the workplace.

The horrifying incident in Kolkata has sent shockwaves through the medical community. The trainee doctor, who was both a promising medical professional and a dedicated caregiver, was brutally attacked within the hospital premises—an environment that should be a sanctuary for both patients and staff. This crime has brought to light the urgent need for comprehensive safety protocols within healthcare institutions, highlighting a growing crisis that doctors and healthcare workers have been facing for years.

    Protests Across the Medical Community

In the days following the tragedy, doctors and medical students across India have taken to the streets, expressing their anger and fear. The protests have been especially pronounced in Jammu, where doctors from ASCOMS have led the charge.

In a symbolic and powerful statement, a doctor from ASCOMS was seen holding a placard that read “No Safety, No Duty,” encapsulating the sentiment shared by healthcare workers nationwide.

Another doctor was seen holding a placard that read ” Saving Lives, Risking Ours !? – The Unprotected Doc’s “

    Screenshot 2024 08 14 18 31 32 952 com.whatsapp

    Videos from the protest site:

These protests are not just about demanding justice for the slain trainee doctor but also about pushing for systemic change. The medical fraternity is calling for the implementation of a central law to protect healthcare workers from violence and assault, a measure that they believe is long overdue. The demands include not only physical safety but also ensuring that hospitals are equipped with the necessary resources to prevent such incidents from happening in the future.

    Calls for Accountability

The case has also brought about significant legal and administrative consequences. The Calcutta High Court has heavily criticized the administration of RG Kar Medical College for its “serious lapses” in the matter, leading to the resignation of Sandip Ghosh, the principal of the college. However, his immediate reassignment to another prominent medical institution—Calcutta National Medical College—sparked further protests, ultimately resulting in the court placing him on indefinite leave.

The involvement of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) adds another layer of seriousness to the case, as the central agency steps in to ensure a thorough and unbiased investigation. The focus remains on bringing those responsible to justice and addressing the broader issues of safety and security for medical professionals.

    A Cry for Change

The protests led by ASCOMS doctors, alongside their peers from institutions like AIIMS and various medical associations, are a clarion call for change. They underscore the growing unrest within the medical community, which feels increasingly under siege. The message from these healthcare workers is clear: without adequate safety measures, their ability to perform their duties is severely compromised.

As the protests continue to gain momentum, the medical community is rallying together to ensure that the voices of those on the front lines are heard. The tragic incident in Kolkata has become a catalyst for a broader movement aimed at securing the rights and safety of medical professionals across the country.

The medical fraternity’s demand for action is not just a plea for justice for the victim but a push for a future where healthcare workers can perform their duties without fear, ensuring that such a tragedy never occurs again.

  • Why my dream of visiting Pakistan will never become a reality

Why my dream of visiting Pakistan will never become a reality

I am very keen to visit Pakistan, and see the beautiful places and meet the wonderful people there. But I know this will remain only a dream

    https://www.sunrisetoday.pk/single/315

    https://indicanews.com/justice-katju-my-dream-of-visiting-lahore

I am particularly keen to see Lahore, with which I have a strong 125 year old connection from the time of my revered grandfather D KN Katju who went to study there in or around 1900.

Many Pakistanis have invited me to come to Pakistan.

However I cannot come due to these reasons :

    (1) I will never get a Pakistani visa, since I have repeatedly called Pakistan a fake ( farzi ), artificial country, created by a British swindle called Partition in 1947, on the basis of the bogus two nation theory, and said it is part of India ( like Bangladesh ) to which it will be reunited one day.

    https://www.outlookindia.com/national/pakistan-is-a-fake-and-artificial-country-news-284178

    https://www.nation.com.pk/02-Mar-2013/the-truth-about-pakistan

I explained this in my video interview to my friend Haider Raza, a Pakistani who lives in California, and took my interview there

    (2) Even assuming I get a visa, the chances are that I will be bumped off by some fanatic the moment I step down from the aircraft on Pakistani soil.

This is because I have repeatedly said that all religions ( which would include Islam ) are false and superstitions, and the truth lies in science, which is constantly developing

    http://justicekatju.blogspot.com/2016/07/religion-and-science-are-diametrically.html

    https://thephilox.com/on-religion-by-justice-markandey-katju-9th-part

I have also praised Mustafa Kemal who modernised Turkey, and asked Indian and Pakistani Muslims to give up sharia, burqa, madasas and maulanas, as these are keeping them backward.

I have said that Islam came in the world as a great liberating force, as it spread the great message of equality, from Spain to Indonesia, and gave social emancipation to the suppressed sections of society ( e.g. dalits in India ), but today it has largely become an enslaving force because of sharia, burqa, madarsas and maulanas.

    (3) My Pakistani friends who invited me said that they will ensure state security for me in Pakistan.

But even the then Governor of Punjab, Salman Taseer, was shot by his own security guard Mumtaz Qadri, just as Indira Gandhi was shot by her own guard Satwant Singh. The Praetorian Guards in ancient Rome, whose duty was to protect the Emperor, often assassinated him.

    https://thefridaytimes.com/03-Jul-2024/pakistan-s-intelligentsia-does-not-properly-understand-blasphemy-vigilantism

Thus the so called ‘security’ is in fact no security. There are plenty of extremist organisations in Pakistan which would be happy to bump me off e.g. Tehreeke Labaik, Lashkar-e-Toiba, Tehreeke Taliban, Jaish-e-Mohammed, etc

    (4) The Pakistan army are the real rulers of Pakistan, and they have unleashed a fascist reign of terror in Pakistan after the events of 9th May, 2023 ( which many say were stage managed ).

In several articles I have described and exposed the Pakistan army, particularly its senior officers, as a bunch of corrupt, amoral, mafia type, gangsters, looters, gundas, terrorists, rogues and rascals, and as vampires who have since long been sucking the blood of the Pakistani people

    https://www.theweek.in/news/india/2019/08/26/opinion-the-truth-about-the-pakistan-military.html

Several army generals, serving or retired, and their relatives are millionaires, some even billionaires. They spend a large part of the government budget on themselves, enhancing their lifestyle and retirement benefits. They are some of the richest people in Pakistan, and after joining the army and getting promoted to senior ranks (major and above) their lifestyle drastically changes. They live in splendour, with huge houses, luxury cars and designer goods.

    https://theprint.in/world/corruption-runs-deep-in-pakistan-army-report/1266553

Having said all this about them, will the generals allow me to get a visa, or allow me to live if I land on Pakistani soil ? Highly unlikely

  • Justice Katju Calls for the Release of Alleged Political Prisoners in India

Justice Katju Calls for the Release of Alleged Political Prisoners in India

To my Brothers and Sisters Judges of the Supreme Court of India

I respectfully appeal to you to revisit the cases of the people in jail mentioned below whom I believe are innocent and have been wrongly incarcerated due to political vendetta by the Modi Government, quash the bogus charges against them, and free them.

    1. Sanjiv Bhatt
He was a senior IPS Police Officer who gave an affidavit in the Supreme Court alleging complicity of Modi in the 2002 massacre of 2000-3000 Muslims in Gujarat. In the affidavit, he claimed he had attended a meeting at the then chief minister’s residence in February 2002, at which Modi allegedly told officers to “allow Hindus to vent their anger” against the minority community.
As a result, Modi, who is known to be a very vindictive person, got him arrested on apparently trumped up false charge of an old case of 1996, and convicted, and he has been in jail since 2018 . He has also been sacked from the police and he and his family harrssed in many ways.

    2. Umar Khalid
He is a Ph.D from JNU, and was an activist. He was arrested on charges of sedition, under the UAPA and a host of other sections of the IPC, which I believe to be totally concocted and bogus, and he has been in jail since 2020. His real crime is being a Muslim. Kanhaiya Kumar, who was accused of similar charges in the same incident in JNU, being a Hindu, is free.

    • The business serving end clients/exhibitors/brands was moved to its 99% subsidiary Digiglobe Advertising.
    • The overseas business was moved to its 51% subsidiary Maple Heights LLC Dubai.
    • Venue related and business focused on serving event/exhibition organizers were retained in EMSL

    As part of restructuring

    Top-line of INR 4.2 Cr/PAT 0.67 Cr was moved to Digiglobe in H2 FY24.

Top-line of INR 5.3 Cr/PAT 0.93 Cr was moved to Maple Heights LLC in H2 FY24 resulting in reduction of INR 9.5 Cr of revenue and INR 1.6 Cr PAT from standalone numbers to its subsidiaries in H2 of FY24.

The adjusted H2 of FY24 figures for EMSL standalone adjusted to effect of restructuring would have been approximately INR 27.2 Cr sales and INR 3.96 Cr PAT in H2 FY24.

The adjusted Full year FY24 figures for EMSL standalone, adjusted to effect of restructuring would have been approximately INR 50.24 Cr sales and INR 7.90 Cr PAT.

The effect of shift of revenue and PAT from EMSL to Digiglobe is largely neutral as the same is 99% consolidated. However, the effect of shift of revenue and PAT from EMSL to Maple Heights is neutral for revenue but only 51% of PAT is consolidated leading to lower PAT percentage.

  • Long live the brave people of Kashmir

Long live the brave people of Kashmir

Being a Kashmiri myself, I salute the Kashmiris who are holding massive protests and agitations in the Pakistan army occupied Kashmir against inflation, particularly huge rise in electricity bills and prices of foodstuffs.
To many it seem that such protests will achieve nothing, but to my mind they have a historical significance.
To my mind, the agitating Kashmiris are providing leadership to not only their own state but to the whole of India and Pakistan, in two ways. Let me explain.
    (1) The Kashmiris have rightly focused on a real, economic issue, i.e. price rise, and they have refused to be befooled by the government which usually tries to divert attention towards irrelevant issues. As the Roman Emperors used to say ” If you cannot give the people bread give them circuses ”. Unfortunately for the Pakistan Government, the Kashmiris will not be satisfied with having circuses any longer, but insist on having bread.
Massive unemployment and skyrocketing prices of essential commodities have made life almost unbearable for most Indians and Pakistanis, not just Kashmiris.
Kashmiris are thus showing the path ahead to all Indians and Pakistanis in this respect.
One may recall the march of Parisian women demanding bread to Versailles in October 1789, which brought down the Bourbon dynasty, and the demonstrations for bread in St Petersburg in February 1917 which brought down the Romanovs.
    (2) The second significance of these protests is that in many places slogans were shouted ” We want freedom from Pakistan ”, and in some places even  Indian flags were hoisted.
To my mind, this marks the beginning of the realisation among Pakistani people that in fact India and Pakistan ( and Bangladesh ) are really one nation, sharing the same culture, which were one for 500 years ( since the time of Mughal Emperor Akbar ). Partition of India in 1947 was a British swindle, on the basis of the bogus two nation theory, perpetrated by the British through their agents Gandhi and Jinnah, and must be undone.
The aim of Partition was to keep Hindus and Muslims fighting each other so that we remain weak and backward, and not emerge as a modern industrial giant, of which we have all the potential, and thus become another China, a big rival to Western industry with our cheap labour. ( as explained in the video below )
Unless we reunify under a secular government and with modern minded leaders we can never emerge as a modern industrial giant, but will remain condemned to massive poverty and unemployment, appalling level of child malnourishment, skyrocketing prices of essential commodities, lack of proper healthcare and good education for the masses, etc
The brave Kashmiris, showing magnificent and unwearied fighting spirit, undaunted by all odds, are giving much needed leadership and guidance to the people of the entire Indian subcontinent.
Long live the brave and courageous people of Kashmir, who have hearts of tigers !
No amount of military jackboots can cow down such valiant and indomitable people
    Justice Katju
