Maj Gen Luv Chand who is the Chief Technology Officer (CTO) of NADDSO also shared his views “drones have evolved from RPV to UAV- Aerial to autonomous drone. The evolution is literally at break neck speed. This throws up many ethical and social issues. Drones are going to be the primary vehicle for AI extending from NAPE of the Earth troposphere and beyond. Drones cousins in the form USVs-land/ Sea too are revolving at rapid pace”.

  • Day 30 of the NREGA Protest: Students and Activists Detained by the Delhi Police

Day 30 of the NREGA Protest: Students and Activists Detained by the Delhi Police

The Delhi police has made it quite clear that no public discussion about NREGA will be allowed beyond jantar-mantar. Students and activists were detained by the Delhi Police in the middle of a public discussion on NREGA at the Arts Faculty, Delhi University, for which permission was withdrawn on the day of the event. The event, organised by a student organisation called Collective, was a discussion on the right to work and NREGA in particular. Renowned economist Jean Dreze, Richa Singh of Sangatin Kisan Mazdoor Sangathan, Uttar Pradesh and Comrade Somnath of Jan Sangharsh Manch, Haryana were slated to speak at the event. However, the event had just begun when it was abruptly stopped by the police and the organisers, speakers and other students were taken to the Maurice Nagar police station. Comrade Somnath, two students from Delhi University and a foreign student were detained by the police for over three hours.

This comes a day after the workers were removed from Jantar Mantar despite having obtained prior permission to organise a protest. The workers were asked to vacate the protest site or be removed by force by police personnel in order to make way for an event organised by the Aam Aadmi Party. The day prior as well, the workers’ right to protest was disrupted by a rally organised by BJP party workers who took over most of the protest site while all other demonstrations were pushed to the sidelines. The protestors were unable to procure mics and even had to bring their own carpets as they were made to settle down in a tiny space beyond the police barricades.

These actions on the part of law enforcement authorities will go down in the list of ever-increasing encroachments on the citizens’ right to protest and the right to ask questions of their elected government, a phenomenon all too common in our country today. They are gross violations of the right to freedom of speech and expression and the right to peaceful assembly enshrined in the Constitution. Moreover, such an atmosphere of state surveillance and repression points to the unfortunate reality where the space for dissent is shrinking day by day and the idea of democracy itself is under threat. The poor and the marginalized are being attacked in a comprehensive way on two simultaneous counts – first, with social security rights like MGNREGA being undermined and attacked through budget cuts and illegal imposition of technological interventions. Secondly, being attacked when they raise their voice against these measures in a democratic and peaceful manner.

NREGA Sangharsh Morcha organised a press conference at Jantar Mantar on 25 March 2023 to address these developments as well as mark the completion of 30 days of the workers’ protest. Over this month of protest, various workers delegations made attempts to meet officials of the Ministry of Rural Development (MoRD) to present their grievances. But not only were they repeatedly turned away, Union Minister (MoRD) Giriraj Singh also denied having received any NREGA-related complaints in Parliament. Finally, on 21 March 2023, a worker delegation from Jharkhand managed to meet MoRD Secretary Shailesh Kumar Singh and Joint Secretary Amit Kataria but they seemed non-committal about the issues presented to them. Additionally, workers from West Bengal whose wages are pending since December 2021 and have not been given any NREGA work through FY 22-23, have also filed complaints with the National Human Rights Commission.

Such excessive state actions will not deter workers who stand by their resolve to protect the NREGA and demand the following: (i) immediate removal of the NMMS app, (ii) reversal of the order dated 30 January, 2023 requiring all NREGA payments to be made via the Aadhar Based Payment System (ABPS), (iii) increase in the NREGA budget, and (iv) timely payment of wages and immediate release of wages that have been pending for over a year.

  • REAL ESTATE VERTICAL OF AICRA – NATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF SMARTCITY DEVELOPERS & AGGREGATORS (NASDA)

REAL ESTATE VERTICAL OF AICRA – NATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF SMARTCITY DEVELOPERS & AGGREGATORS (NASDA)

All India Council for Robotics and Automation (AICRA), is a not-for-profit apex organization, constituted in the year 2014, for setting up standards for Robotics and Automation in India as well as helping more than 3500 members and professionals to solve difficult technical problems. AICRA is focused on building the architectural integral to the development of the automation sector.

“To consider and take up the issues of the developers and aggregators engaged in the Smartcity Mission of the Government of India, National Association of Smartcity Developers & Aggregators (NASDA) is functioning as Real Estate vertical of All India Council for Robotics & Automation (AICRA), under the Presidentship of Shri Raj Kumar Sharma” informed Shri Anand Giri, CEO of NASDA.

Shri Anand Giri further stated that National Association of Smart City Developers and Aggregators (NASDA) is the premium body of all stakeholders who contribute in the development of Smart Cities in the country. ‘SMART’ is a term to be seriously considered as an acronym. It refers to Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant and Time-Bound. The immovable asset which is land is the basic ingredient and the foundation to build ‘SMART’. NASDA has identified the other factors and verticals to optimize the available resources with introduction of Technologies in Construction, Materials Procurement, Manufacturing Processes, Supply Chain for availability of products and services, Marketing of finished product and all this with a spirit of Nation Building.

He further added that NASDA shall be covering the domains of Smart Cities, Technologies, Skill Development and Education, therefore, support from related Ministries shall be sought, namely, Ministry of Urban Affairs, Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology, Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship and Ministry of Education, all Ministries of the Government of India, to be the Partners for implementation of various Government initiatives.

While working in the habitat of Technology, it was felt that no sector shall remain untouched and that the rate at which new techniques and processes are getting innovated, they shall overtake the conventional way of doing business. This thought was enough to gauge into the future and the sector which caters the most for any business from any sector was identified as the Realty Sector and Smart Cities in particular. That is how, NASDA (National Association of Smart City Developers and Aggregators) was conceptualized by AICRA (All India Council for Robotics and Automation). The Members of AICRA’s Technology Governance Steering Committee in Smart Cities are the Advisory Board Members of NASDA which includes top government officials heading Smartcity Mission in various wings of the Government Departments and key players of the real estate sector.

Technology has evolved and shaped industries in many ways. Advancement of technology will surely improve the scope of the transformation of various sectors. Keeping in view the importance of modern technologies, AICRA is setting up industry specific Technology Governance Steering Committee (Think Tank). While concluding He informed that this body would comprise National Experts from different fields. The key objectives of the Steering Committee are as follows:

    • To deliberate on major government policies of concern to particular industry and influencing reforms pertinent to the need of the industry and recommendations to AICRA’s Executive Committee on the issues and concerns of the industry to be taken up with the government.

    • Setting up agenda for AICRA working committee and provide support in terms of data, reports and white papers in execution of the agenda.

    • To facilitate networking and knowledge sharing between national and international partners for the business/technology interest group.

    • To promote collaborative ventures in technology based ecosystem, industry oriented search and value added services.
