“There are military members serving today from Georgia and other places who are less safe because of what this airman did,” Graham said on ABC’s “This Week.” “There is no justification for this, and for any member of Congress to suggest it’s OK to leak classified information because you agree with the cause is terribly irresponsible and puts America in serious danger.”

Teixiera, a member of the Massachusetts National Guard, is accused of uploading dozens of secret documents detailing sensitive intelligence and defense information on the social media website Discord. He was arraigned in a Boston court on Friday, charged with unauthorized retention and transmission of classified national defense information.

The leak is seen as potentially having serious implications for Ukrainians on the battlefield and has frustrated several U.S. allies.

Graham, who was speaking from Israel after wrapping up a trip to Saudi Arabia, said the leak has been “very damaging” in the region.

“There’s information about the air defense capability of the Ukraine and everybody in the region [is] really worried because who wants to share information with the United States if you’re gonna read about it in the paper or find it on the internet? This has done a lot of damage to us in the region,” Graham said.

IAF chopper pressed into service to douse Coimbatore forest fire

    [ad_1]

Chennai: The forest fire, raging in the Madhukarai forest range of Tamil Nadu’s Coimbatore district since April 11, continued to blaze as fire and rescue team could not climb the steep hills and an IAF chopper was pressed into service on Sunday, officials said.

The fire and rescue team had doused some areas but could not extinguish it fully and hence the Forest Department and Fire Department sought the services of the Indian Air Force helicopter.

The IAF chopper has done seven sorties since morning on Sunday and doused 10 hectares of fire. It carried 3,000 litres of water in each sortie, lifted from the Malampuzha dam in Kerala.

    MS Education Academy

Forest Department officials told IANS that the IAF chopper would fly more sorties till evening and douse fire in more areas.

Coimbatore District Collector, Kranthi Kumar Pati, and senior Forest Department officials have been overseeing the operation of the IAF chopper in dousing the forest fire that was threatening the entire forest area of Madhukkarai forest range.

The dry grass in the forest area had caught fire during heavy summer and were coming down the steep hills like burning fireballs leading to the fire’s spread.

  • AIADMK not to contest Karnataka elections, will back BJP

AIADMK not to contest Karnataka elections, will back BJP

    [ad_1]

Chennai: The AIADMK Executive, in its meeting held here on Sunday, decided not to contest the May 10 Karnataka Assembly elections, and support the BJP instead.

The first executive meeting, since K Palaniswami was elected as the party’s General Secretary, was chaired by party Presidium Chairman Thamizhmagan Hussain.

The AIADMK’s decision to support the BJP in Karnataka comes at a time when the BJP Tamil Nadu President K Annamalai had engaged in a confrontation with the party. However, sources in AIADMK told IANS that the BJP national leadership has requested the party to extend its support in the Karnataka elections.

    MS Education Academy

The party has decided to convene a public meeting in Madurai on April 20.

A total of 15 resolutions were passed in the executive meeting of which 10 were against the ruling DMK, including one condemning it for the deteriorating law and order situation in the state. One resolution was passed to authorise Palaniswami to lead the party in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.

The AIADMK, after the election of Palaniswami, is trying to win at least a few Lok Sabha seats from Tamil Nadu in 2024.

The party is trying to conduct several programmes in the run-up to the elections and the decision to support the BJP in the Karnataka elections is a political move.

The AIADMK had won only one seat in the 2019 Lok Sabha polls in the 39 seats the NDA contested.

The DMK has announced that it would win all 39 seats in 2024 and has already appointed coordinators for each Assembly constituency to work among the masses.

Climate envoy Kerry: No rolling back clean energy transition

    japan g7 climate 20259

“But we’re not doing everything we said we’d do,” he said, after attending a meeting of energy and environment ministers of the Group of Seven wealthy nations. “A lot of countries need to step up including ours to reduce emissions faster, deploy renewables faster, bring new technologies online faster all of that has to happen.”

Kerry said the G-7 talks in northeastern Japan’s Sapporo were “really constructive” in yielding a show of unity for phasing out use of unabated fossil fuels that emit greenhouse gases.

A meeting Thursday of President Joe Biden’s Major Economies Forum, which includes leaders of 20 nations that account for more than three-quarters of global carbon emissions, offers another opportunity for committing resources to the goal of reaching zero emissions by 2050, Kerry said.

“The United States and all the developed world has the responsibility to help the developing world through this crisis,” he said. “Those countries will really determine what happens. If they will reduce, if they will take the lead, if they will start deploying the new technologies, if they will stop using unabated fossil fuels, we’ll up the chance of winning this battle.”

Kerry held out hope for cooperation with China on climate despite friction over Taiwan, human rights, technology and other issues, saying he had a “very good conversation” with his Chinese counterpart, Xie Zhenhua, just days earlier.

“We agreed that we need to get back together personally, visit and try to see what we can find to work on together to accelerate the process. Is that doable? I hope so,” Kerry said.

  • Saudi transfers 4% Aramco shares to PIF’s Sanabil

Saudi transfers 4% Aramco shares to PIF’s Sanabil

    [ad_1]

Riyadh: Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman on Sunday announced the completion of the transfer of 4 per cent of the total shares of Aramco from Kingdom ownership to the Saudi Arabian Investment Company, Sanabil Investment, owned by the Public Investment Fund (PIF), the Saudi Press Agency (SPA) reported.

This comes as a continuation of the Kingdom’s initiatives aimed at strengthening the national economy in the long term and diversifying its resources.

Mohammed bin Salman stressed that the transfer process contributes to maximizing the assets of the Public Investment Fund (PIF) and increasing its investment returns, which enhances the fund’s strong financial position and credit rating.

    MS Education Academy

He explained that the Kingdom remains the largest shareholder in Saudi Aramco after the transfer process, with a percentage of (90.18 per cent) of the company’s total shares.

He pointed out that the Public Investment Fund (PIF) is continuing to launch new sectors, build strategic economic partnerships, localize technologies and knowledge, in addition to creating more direct and indirect jobs in the local labor market.

The transfer of part of the Kingdom’s shares in Aramco is a continuation of Saudi Arabia’s long-term initiatives to diversify the national economy and expand investment opportunities in line with Vision 2030, SPA quoted Prince Mohammed as saying.

In February 2022, 4 per cent of Aramco shares were also transferred to the Public Investment Fund.

The transfer of new shares, like the previous ones, will contribute to supporting the Saudi sovereign fund’s plans aimed at raising the volume of its assets under management to about 4 trillion Saudi riyals by the end of 2025.

  • ‘CBI ignored key facts in Viveka murder case’, says Avinash Reddy

‘CBI ignored key facts in Viveka murder case’, says Avinash Reddy

    [ad_1]

Kadapa: Kadapa MP, Y.S. Avinash Reddy, whose father Y.S. Bhaskar Reddy was on Sunday arrested by the CBI in former minister Y.S. Vivekananda Reddy’s murder case, alleged that ignoring some key facts in the case, the CBI was projecting them as the accused.

He claimed that Vivekananda Reddy’s son-in-law knew about murder but he did not inform the police. The MP claimed that the CBI did not question the slain leader’s son-in-law about suppressing the information.

Avinash Reddy, who rushed to Kadapa from Hyderabad after learning about his father’s arrest, said the investigation should be based on facts and not to target individuals.

    MS Education Academy

He said the new investigating officials of the CBI were doing the same thing which earlier officers had done. He said they had already brought this to the notice of the higher-ups.

The YSR Congress Party MP, who is cousin of Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy, said though Dastagiri (Shaik Dastagiri, one of the accused in the case) murdered Vivekananda Reddy, the CBI officials made him an approver and released him on bail.

The Lok Sabha member alleged that the CBI did not take into account the statement of Dastagiri or watchman Ranganna.

He said the CBI officials and Vivekananda Reddy’s daughter Suneetha were taking the probe into a particular direction.

“We will uphold the good and we will prove our innocence,” he said, adding that they are ready to face any probe.

The Kadapa MP said truth and justice should prevail in the case but unfortunately the CBI has stooped to this level by ignoring facts and giving importance to small things.

Avinash Reddy claimed that the CBI did not probe the disappearance of stamp paper from the house of Vivekananda Reddy and also did not take into consideration the letter written by the slain leader.

He reiterated that Vivekananda Reddy had changed his name to Sheikh Mohammed Akbar in 2010 to marry another woman and that he had a son Shaenshah from second wife. He claimed that Vivekananda Reddy wanted to give his property to second wife and that round seals and documents relating to this were found in his house. He wondered why the CBI was not probing the missing stamp papers.
