Hyderabad: Battery-swapping technology company, RACEnergy has entered into a partnership with Hala Mobility, a multi-modal ride-sharing platform to deploy a fleet of 2000 electric two-wheelers.
This fleet which will be utilised for delivery services across India will have Phase I of the rollout to begin in July.
Electric two-wheelers are forerunners in the EV industry in India, with a massive 305 percent growth in sales recorded last year.
Utilising this large market of vehicles, the partnership will propel the adoption of clean mobility in the country while RACEnergy has completed 2.5 million green kilometres and does 500 swaps on its network daily.
Both companies share the goal of making e-mobility more accessible to the public through user-friendly and cost-effective technology.

Nepal Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal New Delhi: Nepal Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal, also known as Prachanda, is likely to visit India on April 28, according to reports citing sources.
Quoting the sources in Nepal’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the reports said that the date of visit was proposed to Kathmandu by New Delhi.
Prachanda is likely to be in India on a three-day visit, the sources added.
An announcement regarding the visit will be made officially by the two nations in a week’s time, the reports said .
Dahal had earlier visited India after attending the closing ceremony of the Beijing Olympics in 2008, during his first tenure as Prime Minister.
In 2016 again, he had visited New Delhi while his second tenure as the premier.

U.S. convoy fired on in Sudan, Blinken says

During a call Tuesday morning, Blinken told Gen. Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, who leads Sudan’s military, and Gen. Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo, the commander of the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces, that the attack was “totally unacceptable.”
He also underscored the need for a ceasefire, and, following the call, the RSF issued a temporary ceasefire “to open safe paths for the passage of civilians,” the group wrote in a tweet.
While the incident is under investigation, initial reports show that the RSF was responsible for the attack, the secretary of state said.
When asked whether Americans in Sudan were safe, National Security Council spokesperson John Kirby told reporters Monday that all U.S. government personnel are accounted for and sheltering in place, refusing to provide further details.
“We are staying in close touch with them right now, and we expect those communications to continue,” Kirby said. “But I don’t want to get ahead of where we are.”
Blinken said he’s in contact with Americans on the ground in Sudan, refusing to elaborate other than saying that the U.S. “will continue to take every responsible measure to make sure that our people are safe and secure.”
The U.S. has also been in “close coordination” with counterparts from the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia and the United Kingdom to deal with the deepening violence in Sudan, he said. The ultimate goal is to “put Sudan back on the track of talks, negotiations, again, to restore civilian-led government.”

C relaxes 2008 Bengaluru bomb blast prime accused Abdul Nazir Maudany’s bail conditions. Allows him to stay in Kerala till July 8 Prime accused in the 2008 serial bomb blasts case Abdul Nazir Maudany received a breather from the Supreme Court of India after it relaxed the former’s bail conditions.
Maudany, chairman of the Kerala People’s Democratic Party (PDP), has been allowed to stay in Kerala till July 8. His previous bail condition required him to stay in Bengaluru till the case was over.
The court made the decision on the basis of Maudany’s health status and his ailing parents.
“Looking to the applicant’s own medical condition as well as his ailing parents who are residing in the State of Kerala, as an interim measure, consider it appropriate to order that the applicant be allowed to visit the State of Kerala for a period upto 8th July, 2023 to meet his ailing parents accompanied by the Karnataka Police Escort and return in the same manner,” the bench ordered while listing the next hearing on July 10.
However, the Karnataka Government lawyer opposed the Maudany plea seeking relaxation and said that according to the public prosecutor handling the blast case, the proceedings in the matter will take another two months to conclude.
This is the second time Maudany applied for a relaxation of his bail. His first plea was rejected in September 2021.
In 2008, as many as eight serial bomb blasts took place in Bengaluru, killing three people and injuring over 20.

Biopic ‘Sumo Didi’ follows story of India’s only female Sumo wrestler, Hetal Dave

Mumbai: The upcoming biopic titled ‘Sumo Didi’ will tell the story of India’s only professional female sumo wrestler Hetal Dave, and will star Shriyam Bhagnani as its lead. The teaser of the film featuring actress Shriyam showcases her in a tough and determined character, grappling with ropes as she trains for her part of a sumo wrestler.
The film, which also stars Nitesh Pandey, Chaitanya Sharma, and Raghav Dhir, has been helmed by Jayant Rohatgi.
For Shriyam Bhagnani, portraying the character of Hetal Dave, is a “great honour”. She said, “Preparing for this role has been both demanding and rewarding, and I am thankful for the chance to embody such a courageous and influential figure on screen. I hope that our film will inspire women of all ages to chase their dreams and never give up, no matter the challenges they face”.
Hetal Dave, the inspiration behind the series, made history as India’s first and only female sumo wrestler, and in 2008, she even made it into the Limca Book of Records. She has represented India in various international championships, including Poland, Finland, Estonia, and Taiwan. In the 2009 World Games, she placed fifth in the women’s middleweight category.
Sumo wrestling is not among the recognized sports in India, even then Dave has represented India in several competitions, and has recorded her name in the world’s 150 fearless women.
Shriyam further mentioned, “For me, this is a grand debut, and I recognise the weight of the significant responsibility I am undertaking, quite literally. As a biopic based on a real-life individual, I consider it my greatest responsibility to portray Hetal Mam’s journey accurately in Sumo Didi. It’s my sincere desire to do justice to her story and legacy through my performance in the film”.
As per sources, Shriyam underwent several months of rigorous physical training to transform herself for the role, collaborating with celebrity trainer Sahil Rasheed to build muscle mass and enhance her athleticism. To achieve a more authentic appearance, the actress has also gained a considerable amount of weight.
The film, produced by Jio Studios, will be released soon.

UP: Man who shot dead woman in broad daylight injured in police firing

A day after a 20-year-old woman was shot dead in broad daylight in the Jalaun district of Uttar Pradesh, the accused was injured during police firing on Tuesday night.
On April 17, Roshni Ahirwar, a Bachelor of Arts (BA) student, was returning home after taking a test at her college when two men on a motorbike shot her dead with a handmade gun. They left the murder weapon near her body and fled.
Siasat.com spoke to Jalaun Superintendent of Police Iraj Raja who informed the accused – Raj Ahirwar – is being treated at the Government Medical College, Orai in Jalaun.
“Roshni’s relatives named Raj as the accused in their complaint. When the police went to arrest him, he started firing. In response, we fired back. Raj received two bullet injuries on his back and is currently being treated, ” the SP said.
The senior police officer also told Siasat.com that Raj and Roshni were in a relationship for over a year.
“Since they belonged to the same caste, their families had no objection to their affinity. They were even talks about marriage. However, two months ago, the couple had disagreements after which Roshni decided to break up with Raj,” SP Raja said.
According to the SP, Raj could not digest the breakup and started following Roshni by calling her constantly and through social media. Roshni however tried to ignore Raj’s advances.
Unable to accept that breakup, Raj decided to murder Roshni, the SP said.
Amid reports of Raj’s death in the cross-firing with the police, the SP stated that the former is alive and is being currently treated for his injuries. He also said that the couple were not engaged.
A case under sections 302 (Murder) and 506 (Punishment for criminal intimidation) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
Roshni’s murder comes days after gangster-turned-politician Atiq Ahmed and his brother Ashraf were shot dead on LIVE television amid police security in Prayagaraj.
The Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) also shared the disturbing video clip on Twitter and targeted the UP government. “Will the wolves of Godi media and the BJP also celebrate this death?” the party wrote in the caption, in an apparent swipe at celebratory coverage of Atiq’s murder.

Bilkis Bano case: Centre, Gujarat may seek review of SC’s ‘remission files’ order

New Delhi: The Centre and the Gujarat government on Tuesday told the Supreme Court that they may file a plea seeking a review of its March 27 order asking them to be ready with original files on the grant of remission to the convicts in the Bilkis Bano case.
A bench of Justices K M Joseph and B V Nagarathna questioned the paroles granted to 11 convicts during their incarceration period and said the gravity of the offence could have been considered by the state.
It said, “A pregnant woman was gang-raped and several people were killed. You cannot compare victim’s case with standard section 302 (murder) cases. Like you cannot compare apples with oranges, similarly massacre cannot be compared with single murder. Crimes are generally committed against society and the community. Unequals cannot be treated equally.”
“The question is whether government applied its mind and what material formed the basis of its decision to grant remission,” the bench said, adding, “Today it is Bilkis but tomorrow it can be anyone. It may be you or me. If you do not show your reasons for grant of remission, then we will draw our own conclusions.”
The bench posted the batch of pleas challenging the remission to the convicts in Bilkis Bano case for final disposal on May 2 and asked all the convicts who have not been served notices to file their replies.
It asked the Centre and the state to make its stand clear about filing of a review plea.
On March 27, terming Bilkis Bano’s gang-rape and the murder of her family members during the 2002 Godhra riots as a “horrendous” act, the Supreme Court had asked the Gujarat government whether uniform standards, as followed in other cases of murder, were applied while granting remission to the 11 convicts in the case.
It had sought a response from the Centre, Gujarat government and others on a plea filed by Bilkis Bano, who was gang-raped and seven members of her family were killed during the 2002 post-Godhra riots.
Bano has challenged the remission of sentence of 11 convicts in the case.
All 11 convicts were granted remission by the Gujarat government and released on August 15 last year.
The top court seized of PILs filed by CPI(M) leader Subhashini Ali, Revati Laul, an independent journalist, Roop Rekha Verma, who is a former vice chancellor of the Lucknow University, and TMC MP Mahua Moitra against the release of the convicts.
Bano was 21 years old and five months pregnant when she was gang-raped while fleeing the riots that broke out after the Godhra train burning incident. Her three-year-old daughter was among the seven family members killed.
