Head & neck cancer cases on rise in Bengaluru: Experts
[ad_1]
Bengaluru: The incidence of head and neck cancers is increasing in the city, according to medical experts.
Nevertheless, the city has many world-class hospitals and medical facilities that are equipped to handle the diagnosis, treatment, and management of these cancers. With advanced technologies such as robotic surgery becoming more prevalent, Bangalore is emerging as a hub for cutting-edge treatments and therapies for the patients, Dr Sandeep Nayak P, Director – Department of Surgical Oncology and Robotic and Laparoscopic Surgery, Fortis said.
It is crucial for individuals to stay informed about the risk factors and symptoms of head and neck cancers and to seek medical attention promptly if they suspect they may be affected. “With this in mind, I have developed a revolutionary technique for robotic surgery, known as RIA-MIND. This technique not only eliminates the need for an incision in the neck but also reduces the risk of complications associated with such wounds, promotes faster healing, and provides vastly superior cosmetic results,” he explained.

Dr Vishal Rao, Group Director for Head & Neck Surgical Oncology and Robotic Surgery, HCG Cancer Centre, said, “Surgeons have small eyes and big hands, but robots have small hands and big eyes, which help the surgeon probe deeper into hitherto inaccessible areas with racoon-like vision and precision. Technology has thus made the representation of reality way more interesting than the reality itself. Robots have taken site location, visualisation, and human error mitigation to a whole new level. The haptic sensory feedback has made minimally invasive head and neck surgery an experience as intimate as the conventional one; it hardly appears like a remote mechanism.
Underlining that robotic surgery has become increasingly popular, Dr Avinash Chaitanya S, Consultant Head and Neck Surgical Oncology, CARE Hospitals, says it has several advantages over traditional surgical techniques.
In India, head and neck cancers account for about 30 per cent of all cancer cases. Robotic surgery has emerged as a new approach for treating these cancers because of its precision, minimally invasive approach, reduced risk of complications, better visualization, and increased patient safety, he said.
April is head and neck cancer awareness month.

Gujarat HC to hear PIL seeking ban on mosque loudspeakers
[ad_1]
Ahmedabad: A plea seeking a ban on the use of loudspeakers at mosques in Gujarat will be taken up by a division bench of the Gujarat High Court on June 19, an official said on Wednesday.
The plea has been filed by a doctor, Dharmendra Prajapati.
The Gujarat government has not responded to a high court notice issued over a year ago regarding the public interest litigation (PIL).

The court directed the advocate-general on Wednesday to file the government’s reply by June 12.
Prajapati, who resides in Sector 5C in Gandhinagar, claimed that Muslim individuals come to pray at different times and use loudspeakers, causing disturbance to the nearby residents.
He claims that the use of loudspeakers during Muslims’ prayer times infringes on his fundamental rights.
He has cited an Allahabad High Court judgment that rejected a request to allow the Muslim call for prayer to be sounded with amplifying devices in Uttar Pradesh’s Ghazipur district.
Prajapati also submitted a written complaint to the Gandhinagar ‘mamlatdar’ in June 2020, which was forwarded to the Sector 7 police station.
However, no action was taken in response.
The petitioner also claimed that the use of loudspeakers during prayer times violates noise pollution rules, which prescribe a permissible noise level of 80 decibels.
He has sought direction from the appropriate authority to ban the use of loudspeakers in mosques across the state.

Watch: UAE astronaut shares view of Makkah, Madinah from space on Shab-e-Qadr
[ad_1]
Abu Dhabi: United Arab Emirates (UAE) astronaut Sultan Al Neyadi, who is currently on a six-month space mission to the International Space Station (ISS) shared an incredible view of Saudi Arabia’s Makkah and Madinah.
Al Neyadi tweeted a video of the Kingdom’s holy sites on the 27th night of Ramzan, calling the footage “a gift for Salman’s children on these blessed nights”.
“A dedication to the country of the Two Holy Mosques, the landing site of revelation and the land of the message, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia,” he added.

The video shows Makkah and Madinah completely lit up, and stunning images of the Grand Mosque.
Al Neyadi pans the camera over Madinah and says, “This is Madinah, the city to which Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) immigrated with his beloved people.”
Then he moves the camera to show Jeddah.
“This is the city of Jeddah, often referred to as the Bride of the Red Sea,” Al Neyadi says.
Then move the camera to show Makkah and says, “The holy city of Makkah, where the message of Islam was rooted with the Prophet, may God bless him and grant him peace.”
Al Neyadi then points to the light from the Grand Mosque in the city centre, which can be seen shining brightly in the video, even from space.
Watch the video below
Al Neyadi’s special gift came as crowds of worshippers performed the Isha and Taraweeh prayers on Monday at the Grand Mosque to glorify the 27th night of Ramzan, while also celebrating the last ten days of Ramzan, which many Muslims consider the most blessed.
Emirati astronaut Sultan Al Neyadi made history on March 2 by becoming the first Arab to join a long-term space mission that will last six months as part of SpaceX’s crew.
The mission is a historic landmark for the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
The SpaceX Dragon spacecraft, named Endeavor, aboard a Falcon 9 rocket, carried the Emirati astronaut along with two NASA astronauts, Mission Commander Stephen Bowen, Pilot Warren Hoburg, and Roscosmos Cosmonaut Andrey Fedyaev.
Sultan Al Neyadi will be the first Arab to walk in space when he exits the International Space Station on April 28.

Karnataka polls: Siddaramaiah files nomination from Varuna
[ad_1]
Mysuru: Senior Congress leader and former Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Wednesday filed nomination from Varuna constituency in this district, for the May 10 Karnataka Assembly polls.
The Leader of Opposition in the Assembly was accompanied by former Minister H C Mahadevappa and Congress leaders.
Siddaramaiah’s son Dr Yathindra Siddaramaiah is the sitting Congress MLA from Varuna.

The 75-year-old, eight time MLA, had earlier won twice from Varuna, and went on to become the Leader of Opposition after winning from here in 2008, and then became Chief Minister after 2013 Assembly polls.
The Congress legislature party leader offered prayers to his family deity Siddarameshwara at the temple in his native village of Siddaramanahundi, and also visited Sri Rama temple there, and held a massive roadshow before filing the nomination.
He also visited the famous Chamundeshwari temple, on Chamundi hills in Mysuru, and addressed a public meeting ahead of filing papers.
The ruling BJP has fielded Minister V Somanna from Varuna to take on Siddaramaiah.
By filing nomination in Varuna, Siddaramaiah has returned to his home constituency after contesting from neighbouring Chamundeshwari, and Badami in Bagalkote district, in 2018 polls. He had faced a defeat in Chamundeshwari, but had won in Badami.
A Chief Ministerial aspirant in the event of Congress coming to power, he has already declared that this will be his last election.
Filing of nominations for the election ends on April 20. Voting will take place on May 10 and the counting of votes will be on May 13.
