Centre plans to enable Aadhaar authentication by entities other than govt depts

    [ad_1]

New Delhi: The Centre plans to allow entities other than a central or state government ministry or department that plan to use Aadhaar for providing various public services to authenticate it.

The Ministry for Electronics and IT proposes to amend the Aadhaar Authentication for Good Governance Rules, 2020 for this purpose and has posted the amendments on its website, seeking comments on them from stakeholders and the general public by May 5, 2023.

“It is proposed that any entity other than a government ministry or department that desires to use Aadhaar authentication for the purpose of enabling better access to services, usage of digital platforms to ensure good governance, preventing dissipation of social welfare benefits, enabling innovation and spread of knowledge, shall prepare a proposal giving justification as to how the authentication sought is for one of the above purposes and in the interest of state and submit the same to the concerned ministry or department of the central or state government,” a statement issued by the IT ministry said.

    MS Education Academy

“If the concerned ministry or department is of the opinion that the proposal submitted fulfils such a purpose and is in the interest of the state, it will forward the proposal along with its recommendation to the IT ministry,” it added further.

At present, the ministries and departments are allowed to undertake Aadhaar authentication under the Aadhaar Authentication for Good Governance (Social Welfare, Innovation, Knowledge) Rules, 2020 in the interest of good governance and to prevent leakage of public funds and enable innovation and the spread of knowledge.

Atiq-Ashraf case: SIT arrests 3 who trained accused to behave as journos

    [ad_1]

Lucknow: The three assailants, who shot dead gangster Atiq Ahmad and his brother Ashraf, were trained to behave like real journalists before they joined a group of media persons at the hospital where the brothers were shot dead.

Three men, who helped the main accused in the murder of gangster Atiq Ahmed and his brother, in pretending to be a reporter have been detained by the Special Investigation Team, the police said on Thursday.

Three men, who work for a local news website, showed the ropes of reporting to Tiwari and helped him buy a camera, the police said.

    MS Education Academy

They have been detained from the railway station in Banda by the Special Investigation Team probing the case.

The killers, Lovelesh Tiwari, Arun Maurya and Sunny Singh, had trailed the arrested gangster as journalists for an entire day before shooting him in front of television cameras and dozens of policemen on April 15, said the police.

Meanwhile, search for Shaista Parveen continued on Thursday also. “Raids were conducted in search of Shaista Parveen, wife of gangster Atiq Ahmed. A search operation was conducted after receiving information about some criminals hiding. The operation lasted for about two hours. A drone camera was also used in the operation. However, the operation did not prove successful today,” senior police officer Samar Bahadur said.

Atiq Ahmed was accused in the murder of BSP MLA Raju Pal in 2005, as well as in the killing of Umesh Pal, a key witness in the BSP leader’s murder, in February this year.

  • Jisko samjha tha khameera woh bhasaaku nikla By Justice Katju

Jisko samjha tha khameera woh bhasaaku nikla By Justice Katju

On 4th April the Pakistan Supreme Court boldly passed an order fixing 14th May as the date for holding elections to the Punjab Assembly,

However, thereafter an application was filled by the Defence Ministry for changing the date, citing security and financial reasons, and praying that elections should be held simultaneously for the National and Provincial Assemblies.

This application, which was heard yesterday, 19th April, should have been dismissed in 5 minutes by the Court, as it was clearly frivolous and specious, but instead it was unnecessarily heard the whole day, during which the Court behaved like a village panchayat, mediation centre, or a jirga ( as in Afghanistan ) and delivered homilies and lectures, advising the political parties to sit together and try to come to an agreement about the date for the elections.

After its boldness shown on 4th April, this pusillanimous behaviour of the Court was deeply disappointing.

The Court should have simply asked the Attorney General whether the PDM Govt will comply with the order of the Court of 4th April and release the funds for the elections, and on receiving no clear cut, or an evasive reply, as it happened,

should have sacked the Govt, relying on the precedent of the dismissal by the Court of former PM Yusuf Raza Gilani for contempt of Court.

Instead, the Court blew hot and cold together, by on the one hand hand saying that it cannot backtrack on its order fixing 14th May for the elections, and at the same time saying that the date can be changed if there is consensus among the political parties.

But how can they say this ? Can the Court say that the Constitution must be followed, but it need not be followed if the parties agree ? That would be ex facie legally untenable and unacceptable.

The case was adjourned for today, 20th April, but it is obvious this is just a waste of time.

The PMLN has announced it will boycott the polls if held on 14th May

Political parties have started arriving in the Court

So another drama will be enacted in Court today.

It seems the wind has gone out of the sails of the judges on the bench, who have lost their nerve, and now they are trying to wriggle out somehow from their earlier bold and correct stand.

There is a proverb :” Jisko samjha tha khameera woh bhasaaku nikla ”

I regret to say this, but this aptly describes the judges on the bench hearing the case.

‘Afwaah’ trailer shows Bhumi, Nawaz’s characters on the run

    [ad_1]

Mumbai: The trailer of the upcoming movie ‘Afwaah’ was unveiled on Wednesday. The film, directed by Sudhir Mishra of ‘Hazaaron Khwaishein Aisi,’ stars Nawazuddin Siddiqui, Bhumi Pednekar, Sumeet Vyas, T.J. Bhanu and Sharib Hashmi.

The trailer, which is two minutes and thirty seconds in length, shows Sumeet as a politician who is in hot pursuit of his fiancee (played by Bhumi) after she runs away from home and Nawaz’s character comes to her rescue. A rumour that Bhumi and Nawaz’s character eloped together is unleashed by those in power.

Director Sudhir Mishra said: “What if the monster chasing you is a bloody rumour? Basically you’re screwed because there’s no place to hide. The monster will always get there before you. What is worse is that sometimes the monster comes in the shape of a friend or a lover or a parent. If this is not the basis of a f****g good thriller, then I don’t know what is! Presenting my reaction to our times: ‘Afwaah’.”

    MS Education Academy

The film is a quirky thriller and speaks about how a rumour has the power to turn someone’s life upside down. This is Sudhir’s second outing with Nawazuddin after the ‘Serious Men’.

Producer Anubhav Sinha said: “It’s been an enriching experience collaborating with Sudhir on this important film. I believe ‘Afwaah’ is a very important film that accomplishes our objective of producing films that are high on content.”

Produced by Anubhav Sinha under his banner Benaras Mediaworks, the film will release theatrically on May 5, 2023.

  • Keeping one day roza during Ramadan by Justice Katju

Keeping one day roza during Ramadan by Justice Katju

Though I am a Hindu, for the last 25-30 years I have kept one day roza ( fast ) during the Muslim Holy month of Ramadan ( called Ramzan in India where I live ), usually on the last Friday, called Alvida.

I also appeal every year to all non Muslims to do the same to express respect and solidarity with our Muslim brothers and sisters.

This does not mean that non Muslims must change their religion and become Muslims. It is just a symbolic act, to show our respect and solidarity with our Muslim brethren, who are often vilified.

I am a humble disciple of the great French political philosopher Jean-Jacques Rousseau ( 1712-78 ) who believed in the inherent goodness of people. I too think that 99% members of all religions, whether Hindu, Muslim, Christian, Sikh, Jew, Buddhist or any other, and of all races and communities, are good by nature. They are, however, vilified by the bigoted acts of the remaining 1%.

We have to end the false propaganda that all Muslims are terrorists. People in the Indian subcontinent and elsewhere are tired of communalism and religious bigotry, and are realising the great harm it does. To counter this poison, we have to administer antidotes. Non-Muslims observing roza for one day during Ramzan and non-Hindus observing vrat for one day during Navratri could be one such antidote.

This year too I will observe one day roza tomorrow, 21st April 2023, which is the last Friday of Ramzan, and I appeal to non Muslims everywhere to do the same.

I enquired from my Muslim friends in Delhi who told me that the time of sehri, the time for beginning the fast in Delhi is 4.20 a.m. ( different regions have different timings ), after which one must not eat or drink anything till the time of iftaar, which is 6.50 p.m. here, when one may break the fast.

So I have told my wife to boil 2 eggs and keep them along with some bread and fruits and milk in the refrigerator at night today. I will get up early morning tomorrow, 21st April, at 4 a.m.and consume these with lots of water before 4.20 a.m, and then begin my fast, which will last till the time of iftaar.

When I was in California a few years back I kept one day roza during Ramzan, after which I had iftaar and dinner at the residence of my friend Shaista Ali who lives in California. Here is a pic of the iftaar. Standing next to me is my friend Santosh Addagulla.
