What’s in store for Paigah Palace in Hyderabad: Museum or heritage hotel?

    [ad_1]

Hyderabad: Paigah Palace in Hyderabad, which served as the US Consulate in Hyderabad since 2009, will soon see a change in its identity.

With the US Consulate officially ending its lease of Paigah Palace, the fate of the building will now be decided by the state government.

Telangana state museum or heritage hotel in Hyderabad?

While the tourism and other departments had earlier proposed to convert the building into a heritage hotel on the lines of Falaknuma Palace, it now looks like the palace is likely to be converted into a state museum.

    MS Education Academy

According to a report by TOI, Telangana Municipal Administration Minister KT Rama Rao is believed to have informed HMDA officials about Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao’s plan to convert it into a state museum.

History of Paigah Palace in Hyderabad

Paigah Palace was built by Sir Vicar-ul-Umra, a Paigah nobleman. It is spread over four acres of land and is a double-storied building.

The palace premises consist of the main building (G+1), annexure-I building (G+3), and annexure-II (G+3) with a total built-up area of 6,211 square meters.

The US Consulate office in Hyderabad was the first US diplomatic office to open in India after 1947. Until March 15, it was housed in Paigah Palace, Chiran Fort Lane, Hyderabad.

In the past 14 years, the US Consulate approved over 16 lakh visas and processed 42511 citizenship services. However, on March 20, the US Consulate in Hyderabad began its operation at a new facility in Nanakramguda, which is the largest US diplomatic mission in South Asia, built with an investment of USD 297 million. The new consulate office, constructed on a 12.2-acre site, has many new features, including 54 visa procession windows.

Paigah Palace in Hyderabad has a rich history and cultural significance. The building’s architectural marvels and historical significance make it a valuable asset for the state of Telangana.

SpaceX’s Starship ready for second launch attempt on Thursday: Musk

    [ad_1]

San Francisco: SpaceX’s Starship is ready for its first orbital test flight on Thursday, CEO Elon Musk said.

This will be the second launch attempt, as the first on Monday was scrubbed at the last minute due to an issue with the pressurisation system on Starship’s first stage, a huge booster called Super Heavy.

“All systems currently green for launch,” Musk wrote in a tweet on Thursday.

    MS Education Academy

Earlier on Tuesday, he tweeted that the company is working on many issues to prepare for the launch.

“The team is working around the clock on many issues. Maybe 4/20, maybe not,” Musk said.

Meanwhile, the company updated on its website: “SpaceX is targeting as soon as Thursday, April 20 for the first flight test of a fully integrated Starship and Super Heavy rocket from Starbase in Texas.”

“The 62 minute launch window opens at 8:28 a.m. CT (6:58a-pm IST) and closes at 9:30 a.m. CT (8:00a-pm IST),” it added.

If successful, the Super Heavy booster will make a hard splashdown in the Gulf of Mexico about eight minutes after liftoff today.

Starship’s upper-stage spacecraft will make a partial lap around Earth, coming down in the Pacific Ocean near Hawaii around 90 minutes after launch.

“With a test such as this, success is measured by how much we can learn, which will inform and improve the probability of success in the future as SpaceX rapidly advances development of Starship,” the company said.

Musk had previously said that there is only a 50 per cent chance that the first-ever orbital mission of SpaceX’s huge Starship vehicle will be a success. But he also stressed that SpaceX is building multiple Starship vehicles at the South Texas site.

These will be launched in relatively quick succession over the coming months, and there’s about an 80 per cent chance one of them will reach orbit this year.

SpaceX aims to use Starship as a fully reusable transportation system to carry both crew and cargo to Earth orbit, help humanity return to the Moon, and travel to Mars and beyond.

Vital supplies dwindle, healthcare system threatened in Sudan amid unrest: UN

    [ad_1]

Khartoum: Amid the ongoing unrest in Sudan, people are running out of food, fuel and other vital supplies, and the healthcare system is in danger of collapse, UN humanitarians said.

“We desperately need a humanitarian pause so that wounded and sick civilians can reach hospitals,” the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) said.

“People in the capital Khartoum have been unable to safely leave their homes to buy food and other essentials for days now.”

    MS Education Academy

OCHA reported on a severely hampered relief-response system and called for a halt to attacks against aid workers and looting of humanitarian facilities, reports Xinhua news agency.

It said that humanitarian actors must be able to carry out their work safely, and aid agencies must be able to move staff and replenish critical supplies safely.

“We are worried that Sudan’s health care system could completely collapse,” the UN humanitarians said. “Hospitals need additional staff, supplies, and blood.”

The World Health Organization (WHO) listed 16 hospitals across Sudan, including capital Khartoum, were forced to shut down due to attacks.

A further 16 hospitals, including in Darfur states, could close soon due to staff fatigue and lack of supplies, said the WHO.

The fighting that erupted on the morning of April 15 between the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) in Kharotum has so far killed about 270 people and injured more than 2,600 others, with gunfire and explosions still heard across the capital city.

The violence, which is a result of a bloody tussle for power between Sudan’s military leader Abdel Fattah al-Burhan and RSF head Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo, also known as Hemedti, has also spread to other areas in the country, including in Darfur to the west.

As a result of the unrest, thousands of civilians have fled Khartoum and foreign nations are trying to evacuate their citizens, amid a sixth day of fierce fighting.

“We condemn all attacks on health personnel, facilities and ambulances — which are putting more lives at risk,” said OCHA.

“They are flagrant violations of international law, and they must stop now.”

Salman Khan refused to hit Jagapathi Babu during shoot, know why

    [ad_1]

Mumbai: Salman Khan starrer Kisi Ka Bhai Kisi Ki Jaan is all set to release on the eve of Eid. One of the top popular actor in India, Jagapathi Babu plays the role of the prime antagonist in Farhad Samji’s film. As the movie is talked about everywhere, Jagapathi revealed in an interview recently that Salman Khan was initially hesitant about hitting him on the sets.

Yes, in an exclusive interview with Hindustan Times, Jagapathi Babu said, Salman makes everything simple. He said that Bhaijaan guides everyone on the sets and no one feels intimidated by him at all because he doesn’t make you feel that way.

The report in the HT quoted him saying about Bhaijaan, ”He makes it so simple. He guides you. You don’t feel intimidated by him at all because he doesn’t make you feel that way. In fact, we were supposed to have a fight (scene) but due to covid and dengue, we couldn’t, bad luck.”

    MS Education Academy

”There was no reservation regarding the role. Bhai wanted me to dye my hair black and look younger. This is because he has this logic and said ‘I can’t fight a person who is older than me.’ So. we had to do that and nothing else. It wasn’t a reservation but something that the character needed, ‘he added.

Talking about how he became part of the film, Jagapathi Babu said that Gunjalkar who is with Salman Khan is a major instrument for it. He further said that he doesn’t see much of a difference between the South and Bollywood film. He said, “I really didn’t find much of a difference honestly. It was cooler…there was no pressure at all, like money pressure, and budget pressure. It went smoothly. I can’t generalise and say that for all Bollywood (films) but only for this project.”

Kisi Ka Bhai Kisi Ki Jaan is set to hit the screens on April 21, Friday on the occasion of Eid this year.

Sanaa: A stampede at an aid distribution centre in Yemen’s capital of Sanaa has claimed the lives of at least 80 people and left 220 others injured, according to Anis Al-Subaihi, spokesperson for the Houthi-led health ministry.

Abdul Khalik Al-Ajri, spokesperson for the Houthi-controlled interior ministry, told the Houthi-run Saba news that “the stampede accident on Wednesday evening was the result of the random distribution of sums of money by some merchants without coordination with the Ministry of Interior”, Xinhua news agency reported.

  • Viveka murder case: CBI questioning Kadapa MP for 2nd straight day

Viveka murder case: CBI questioning Kadapa MP for 2nd straight day

    [ad_1]

Hyderabad: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) was questioning Kadapa MP Y S Avinash Reddy for the second consecutive day on Thursday in former minister Y. S. Vivekananda Reddy’s murder case.

Avinash Reddy, who was grilled for about eight hours on Wednesday, appeared before the agency at its regional office here at 10.30 a.m.

The CBI officials were also questioning Avinash Reddy’s father Y. S. Bhaskar Reddy and another accused Uday Kumar Reddy for a second day. The duo was brought from Chanchalguda Jail to the CBI office.

    MS Education Academy

On the first day, the CBI officials had questioned them separately and it is not clear if Avinash Reddy will be questioned in the presence of his father and Uday Kumar Reddy.

The CBI team is gathering information from the accused about the reasons for the murder, events of the day when the crime was committed and their movements on the day.

Avinash Reddy, cousin of Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y. S. Jagan Mohan Reddy, has to appear daily before the CBI till April 25, as per the direction of the Telangana High Court.

This was the fifth time that the YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) MP appeared before the CBI.

The Telangana High Court had on Tuesday directed the CBI not to arrest Avinash Reddy till April 25.

In its interim order on anticipatory bail petition of the MP, the court directed him to appear before the CBI daily till April 25.

The CBI had summoned Avinash Reddy for questioning on April 17 but the agency twice deferred the questioning due to hearing of his anticipatory bail petition.

The final order on the anticipatory bail plea will be delivered on April 25.

On Tuesday, the CBI sent Bhaskar Reddy and Uday Kumar Reddy to CBI custody for six days. They will be questioned every day between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m.

Bhaskar Reddy was arrested by the CBI on April 16 while his follower Uday Kumar Reddy was arrested on April 14 in Pulivendula town of Kadapa district in Andhra Pradesh. Both were brought to Hyderabad where a court sent them to judicial custody.

Vivekananda Reddy, brother of former chief minister Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy and uncle of Jagan Mohan Reddy, was murdered at his residence in Pulivendula on March 15, 2019, a few days before the elections.

The 68-year-old former state minister and former MP was alone at his house when unidentified persons barged in and killed him.

The CBI took over the investigation into the case in 2020 on the direction of Andhra Pradesh High Court while hearing a petition of Vivekananda Reddy’s daughter Suneetha Reddy, who raised suspicion about some relatives.

The Supreme Court transferred the case to Hyderabad in November last year after Suneetha Reddy raised doubts about getting a fair trial and investigation in Andhra Pradesh.

With the Supreme Court setting April 30 as the deadline for the CBI to complete its investigation, the agency has expedited the probe with the arrest of Bhaskar Reddy and Uday Kumar Reddy and questioning of Avinash Reddy.
