Karnataka: EC checks helicopter used by DK Shivakumar’s family

    [ad_1]

Mangaluru: The Election officials on Saturday searched the private helicopter in which Congress state president D K Shivakumar’s family travelled from Bengaluru to Dharmasthala in Dakshina Kannada district.

Shivakumar’s wife Usha, her son, daughter and son-in-law were on a pilgrimage to offer prayers at Dharmasthala Manjunatha Swamy temple.

As soon as the helicopter landed at Dharmasthala, the Election officials came forward to check the helicopter.

    MS Education Academy

The pilot sought to know the need to check the helicopter when the Election Commission has been informed that this was not a vehicle on the election duty. “We have already given the letter (Election Commision),” the pilot was heard saying in a video which went viral.

“We have to check the helicopter,” the Election officials said. “That’s what I am saying. This is not an election flight. We have already given the letter stating that this is a private charter. Anyway, check,” the pilot replied.

The Model Code of Conduct is in force in the State, which goes to polls on May 10.

The Election officials had also intercepted and checked Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai’s car when he was on his way to a temple in Chikkaballapura district on March 31.

Ever since the Model Code of Conduct came into effect, over Rs 253 crore worth unaccounted cash, gold, freebies, liquor and drugs have been seized in Karnataka, according to Election Commision officials.

‘BJP believes in continuous change’, Shah on denial of tickets

    [ad_1]

Bengaluru: Reacting to the denial of tickets to state BJP bigwigs in poll-bound Karnataka, Union Home Minister Amit Shah said at a media conclave here on Saturday that the BJP believes in a continuous process of change.

Shah also underlined that if Congress thinks that it can come to power in Karnataka with the induction of former BJP leader Jagadish Shettar into the party, it is thinking of the impossible.

“Only Shettar has joined the Congress, not our vote bank or the party workers. BJP will retain power with a thumping majority,” Shah said.

    MS Education Academy

On denial of tickets to senior state BJP leaders, Shah said that various factors are taken into account before preparing the list of candidates.

“The nominees should not be tainted, they should be respectable candidates. Those who have been denied tickets have been convinced about the party’s decision,” the Home Minister said.

Shah also clarified that one can’t brand all the leaders who were denied tickets as tainted. To accommodate new faces and the new generation, many sitting MLA were not given tickets, he said, adding that the change infused in Karnataka BJP is minimal.

Former Karnataka Chief Minister and senior BJP leader Shettar recently quit the party and joined the Congress after being denied ticket for the May 10 Assembly elections. Former Deputy CM Laxman Savadi has also jumped ship to the Congress for the same reason.

Shah, who arrived in Bengaluru on Friday evening, conducted a marathon meeting of party leaders that continued till 3 a.m. on Saturday, during which he gave them specific tasks to ensure victory of the party. He also advised the party leaders not to be over confident and to shed their negative image.

He also said that the defectors should be taught a lesson in the elections, sources said.

  • Hardik hits 66 as GT manage 135/6 against LSG

Hardik hits 66 as GT manage 135/6 against LSG

    [ad_1]

Lucknow: Hardik Pandya top-scored with a 50-ball 66 but slow batting in the middle overs meant that Gujarat Titans could post only a modest 135 for six against Lucknow Super Giants in their IPL match here on Saturday.

Wriddhiman Saha made 47 off 37 balls to lay the foundation but Hardik couldn’t get going for most part of his innings although he somewhat made up for the slow batting with some big hits in the end.

With the pitch a tad slow and aiding the spinners, stroke-making was difficult and Krunal Pandya emerged Lucknow’s best bowler as he snapped two wickets, giving away just 16 runs after coming to bowl in the second over.

    MS Education Academy

Pacer Naveen-ul-Haq (1/19) and Marcus Stoinis (2/20) also did the job but Ravi Bishnoi had a forgettable outing as he conceded 49 off his quota of four overs.

The black soil pitch didn’t offer much bounce and pace but Naveen-ul-Haq used the conditions well, not allowing the batters to break free as he conceded just 12 in his first two overs.

Krunal drew first blood, dismissing Shubhman Gill for a duck in just his second delivery with the opener holing out to Ravi Bishnoi at long-off.

Saha looked proactive as he managed to pick up boundaries against each of the bowlers, especially Bishnoi, who was punished twice on the off-side as GT scored 40 for 1 in the Powerplay overs.

Hardik, who promoted himself to No. 3, found the going tough initially but Saha was in good nick as he dispatched Stoinis across backward point for another boundary.

Hardik finally broke free, sending Bishnoi across extra cover to bring up the 50-run partnership and then depositing him over long-off as the 9th over yielded 14 runs.

After 12 for 1 in his first three overs, Krunal returned to deceive a well-set Saha with his flight and the opener was caught by Deepak Hooda.

Soon it was 77 for 3 as Amit Mishra set up Abhinav Manohar (3) with a loopy ball outside off and Naveen-ul-Haq took a stunning catch at deep cover with a full stretch dive.

Pandya and newman Vijay Shankar couldn’t push the score and Naveen-ul-Haq returned to clean up the latter as GT reached 92 for 4 in 15 overs.

The 16th and 17th overs slowed down the Titans but with Mishra subbed out, Bishnoi bowled the 18th and Pandya slammed two sixes and a four to bring up his fifty in 44 balls. The over yielded 19 runs.

Naveen-ul-Haq bowled another good over as David Miller just couldn’t get going.

Hardik clubbed Stoinis for a maximum before holing out to KL Rahul.

  • Efforts on to have single database for all lands in Andhra

Efforts on to have single database for all lands in Andhra

    [ad_1]

Amaravati: The Andhra Pradesh government is taking measures to ensure that there will be only one database for all the lands in the state, Special Chief Secretary (Revenue) and Chief Commissioner-land administration (CCLA) G Sai Prasad has said.

Over the past two years, Prasad said several reforms have been effected in the Revenue department to make services easy for the people.

“As part of these efforts, 50 lakh land records out of the 2.74 crore have been rectified. Earlier, everybody used to manipulate survey numbers and meddle with the existing ones but now these interventions will not be possible,” he said in a release on Friday.

    MS Education Academy

According to him, nearly three per cent of the applications made to transfer mutations have overshot the service level agreement (SLA) time limit while 12 percent have been rejected, unlike 50 per cent and 30 per cent respectively a year ago.

Further, the CCLA noted that the law has been amended to transfer the power to alter revenue records from tahsildhars (MROs) to deputy collectors (RDOs).

He observed that the issue of resolving mutation applications has reached a crucial stage as a result of unrelenting auditing efforts at the district and state levels.

Moreover, Prasad said 12 tahsildars were dismissed from service and 13 more were demoted as deputy tahsildars for manipulating land records in the past one year.

Meanwhile, the special chief secretary said registration services have commenced at the village secretariats of 2,000 villages where first phase of resurvey has been completed, including the actual completion of 1,798 registrations.

Likewise, he highlighted that following the first phase of resurvey, 2 lakh mutations gave rise to 4 lakh subdivisions, which will result in 7.8 lakh people receiving land rights documents.

Prasad said Chief Minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy has directed officials to install survey stones in the 2,000 villages by May 20 where the first phase survey was over, even as 13.5 lakh stones have already been installed.

In addition to the 295 registration offices conducting registration services across the state, Prasad said registration seva kendras will also be started in some urban areas.

  • ISRO to send up uncrewed rocket as part of Gaganyaan Mission

ISRO to send up uncrewed rocket as part of Gaganyaan Mission

    [ad_1]

Sriharikota: Ahead of the 2024 General Elections, the Indian space agency ISRO will launch the first uncrewed test rocket Geosynchronous Satellite Launch Vehicle (GSLV) as a part of the Gaganyaan Mission – India’s human space mission.

The Chairman of Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) S. Somanath said here on Saturday the space agency is planning to send up the first uncrewed GSLV rocket in February 2024 as part of the Gaganyaan Mission. The human module will land in the sea.

He was speaking to reporters here after the successful launch of two Singaporean satellites – TeLEOS-2 and Lumilite-4, with the rocket Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle (PSLV).

    MS Education Academy

Somanath said prior that there will a test of Gagayaan Mission in June this year where the rocket will go up to 12-14 km and test its safety systems.

Queried about the next step in ISRO developing a reusable rocket – similar to the USA’s Space Shuttle, Somanath said the space agency will send up a Oribital Recovery Vehicle. The vehicle will be in the space for some days and come back.

On forthcoming space missions of ISRO, he said the space agency will send the Aditya L1, Navigation satellites, a commercial launch with the heavier rocket GSLV and a mission with Small Satellite Launch Vehicle (SSLV).

According to D. Radhakrishnan, Chairman and Managing Director of NewSpace India Ltd (NSIL) – the commercial arm of Department of Space, there is emerging demand for SSLV rocket for orbiting small satellites.

Similarly after the successful launch of 72 OneWeb satellites – for a fee of over Rs 1,000 crore- with ISRO’s LVM3 rocket, there is a good business potential for that rocket as well, Radhakrishnan said.

He said the NSIL is planning to build communication satellites and launch the same.

Be that as it may, speaking about the Saturday’s successful PSLV rocket mission, Somanath said the space agency did some re-engineering to cut costs without compromising on its performance.

The ISRO officials are also upbeat about using the PSLV rocket’s upper stage as a stablised orbital platform on which small payloads are fitted to carry out experiments.

The upper stage of PSLV-C55 rocket that went up on Saturday had seven experimental payloads.

According to M. Sankaran, Director, U R Rao Satellite Centre (URSC), the thought of using the upper stage came four years ago as it will be in the space for a long time.

Sankaran said the space agency took steps to stabilise the upper stage in space and then upgraded the same.

Somanath said commercial electronics are used in the upper stage to make it as an orbital platform and hence its life span will be short.

  • Musk-run Tesla wins Autopilot crash case in US

Musk-run Tesla wins Autopilot crash case in US

    [ad_1]

San Francisco: In some relief for Tesla CEO Elon Musk, jurors in an Autopilot-related 2019 crash in the US have given the verdict in favour of the electric car company.

The jury in the California state court awarded plaintiff Justine Hsu, who sued Tesla in 2020, no damages, reports The Verge.

The jurors found that the Tesla Autopilot software “wasn’t at fault in a crash where the car turned into a median on a city street while Autopilot was engaged”.

    MS Education Academy

Tesla is under intense scrutiny for its Autopilot and its Full Self-Driving (FSD) driver assistance features.

In February, Tesla received a clean chit from the US National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) in a fatal crash involving a Tesla Model S Autopilot system in 2021.

The US transportation agency determined that the “probable cause of the Spring, Texas, electric vehicle crash was the driver’s excessive speed and failure to control his car”.

As for Autopilot, the NTSB determined it wasn’t in use because the system is not programmed to not go faster than 30 mph on the street the Tesla last travelled.

The US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) is also investigating self-driving claims made by Musk.

The SEC probe is to determine if the electric car-maker flouted its rules in promoting its full-self driving (FSD) and Autopilot software.

In February, Tesla paused the rollout of its Full Self-Driving beta software in the US and Canada following a recall of the system.

  • Alabama education director ousted over ‘woke’ training book

Alabama education director ousted over ‘woke’ training book

    [ad_1]

    ivey teacher training book 58863

Ivey’s statement comes as conservative politicians have made a rallying cry out of decrying so-called woke teachings, with schools sometimes emerging as a flashpoint over diversity training and parents’ rights.

The governor’s office said Ivey first asked Cooper to “send a memo to disavow this book and to immediately discontinue its use.” Ivey’s office did not say how Cooper responded but that the governor made the decision to replace Cooper and accepted her resignation. Cooper could not immediately be reached for comment.

The book is a guide for early childhood educators. It is not a curriculum taught to children.

The governor’s office, in a press release, cited two examples from the book — one discussing white privilege and that “the United States is built on systemic and structural racism” and another that Ivey’s office claimed teaches LGBTQ+ inclusion to 4-year-olds. Those sections, according to a copy of the 881-page book obtained by The Associated Press, discuss combating bias and making sure that all children feel welcome.

“Early childhood programs also serve and welcome families that represent many compositions. Children from all families (e.g., single parent, grandparent-led, foster, LGBTQIA+) need to hear and see messages that promote equality, dignity, and worth,” the book states.

The section on structural racism states that “systemic and structural racism … has permeated every institution and system through policies and practices that position people of color in oppressive, repressive, and menial positions. The early education system is not immune to these forces.” It says preschool is one place where children “begin to see how they are represented in society” and that the classroom should be a place of “affirmation and healing.”

NAEYC is a national accrediting board that works to provide high-quality education materials and resources for young children. In an emailed response to The Associated Press, the group did not address Ivey’s statements but said the book is a research-based resource for educators.

“For nearly four decades, and in partnership with hundreds of thousands of families and educators, Developmentally Appropriate Practice has served as the foundation for high-quality early childhood education across all states and communities. While not a curriculum, it is a responsive, educator-developed, educator-informed, and research-based resource that has been honed over multiple generations to support teachers in helping all children thrive and reach their full potential,” the statement read.

Cooper is a member of the NAEYC board. In a previously published statement on the organization’s website about the latest edition of the book, Cooper said that book teaches, “applicable skills for teaching through developmentally appropriate practices that build brains during the critical first five years of life.”

Alabama’s First Class voluntary pre-kindergarten programs operates more than 1,400 classrooms across the state. The program has won high ratings from the National Institute for Early Education Research.
