Modi asks youth to script a new Kerala, slams traditional rival fronts

    [ad_1]

Kochi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi while speaking to the youths who had turned up in huge numbers on Monday evening said the BJP will always be with the youth, while the traditional fronts have failed in their duty to lift the youth.

“Over the years a lot of opportunities for the youth in Kerala were lost due to the ideological difference of opinion between two traditional political fronts. While one party gave more importance to develop their party, the other political front gave more emphasis to one family and both of them failed the youths,” said Modi.

“We the BJP are trying hard to improve exports from here, but some here are engaged in gold smuggling and are letting the youth down,” said Modi.

    MS Education Academy

He said this at the SH College ground while speaking to more than 20,000 youths waiting for him.

“The country is progressing rapidly and I want Kerala also to make use of it and be part of it. I want that you the youth should script a new history for Kerala and you should take the lead for it and I am ready to follow you,” said Modi to huge applause.

He then spoke about the huge potential that tourism offers to Kerala and asked the youth to make use of it.

“During my Mann Ki Baat radio programme I do get a lot of letters and in the upcoming 100th edition of it, I will again take up the issues of the youth,” said Modi.

Turning to political issues of how the BJP is being perceived, he told the youth that the country is getting divided in the name of caste, creed, religion and the youth should come forward against it.

“Be it in northeast or in Goa, some big communities have appreciated the BJP and in Kerala also there is scope for change in this respect,” added Modi.

Modi arrived at Kochi around 5 p.m. for a two-day trip to Kerala, dressed in typical local style and surprised many when he decided to walk a good part of the 1.8 kms as part of his roadshow.

While the original programme was that he will be in a vehicle, he surprised everyone when he decided to walk down the streets.

Thousands of people were waiting for long and they were taken aback when they saw Modi walking past waving to them.

As he walked the people showered flowers on him.

After walking for about 20 minutes he got into his vehicle but stood and greeted the people waiting on either side of the road and also on top of the buildings.

He reached the venue to a tumultuous welcome and greeted the people on the dais. The star of the moment appeared to be Anil Antony, son of the country’s longest serving Defence Minister A.K. Antony, who had joined the BJP earlier this month.

Seeing Anil, Modi stopped near him, patted him on his shoulder and exchanged pleasantries.

On Tuesday he will reach the state capital to flag off Kerala’s first Vande Bharat train and launch a slew of projects. Around noon he will fly to Surat.

Doctors at AIIMS Delhi remove whistle stuck in airways of 4-year-old through bronchoscopy

    [ad_1]

New Delhi: Doctors at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences here removed a whistle which had got stuck in the airways of a 4-year-old child after he accidentally aspirated it, through endoscopy.

“Shahin, a native of Nuh distrist in Haryana, was brought to the Mother and Child Block of the hospital Sunday morning,” Dr Prabudh Goel, Additional Professor, Department of Paediatric Surgery said.

He said the child’s father had bought him a pair of slippers which had an inbuilt whistle. The whistle got dislodged and Shahin put it inside his mouth and it landed in his airways, Goel added.

    MS Education Academy

“The child was coughing when he was brought to the emergency ward. He was also in respiratory distress because the airways were compromised… the child was also making a whistling sound while breathing,” the doctor said.

The left main bronchas was okay, the left lung was being aerated and that is the reason the child survived. Additionally, there was movement of air into and out of the right lung through the whistle. The parents told us that it took them about one-and-half hours to reach the hospital.

A foreign body lodged in the main trachea blocking the main airway is an emergency of the highest order, Goel said.

“The child was directly taken to the operation theatre from emergency where we did a bronchoscopy. The bronchoscopy per say is a life and death challenge. Besides that it runs a risk of damage to the brain. There is a possibility we might need to do treacheostomy or a thoracotomy (open chest surgery) in such children,” he said.

AIIMS director Dr M Srinivas was also present during the surgery.

Dr Meenu Bajpai, Head of Department, Paediatric Surgery said such incidents of children coming to the emergency ward after swallowing peanuts, pieces of almonds, beads, safety pins, buttons and batteries are common mostly in children aged below 5-7 years. He said the hospital encounters approximately 100 such cases in a year.

“Through this case presentation, we want to spread awareness that parents should keep such items such as buttons, batteries, small toy whistles, necklace beads, peanuts, almonds and shirt buttons out of the reach of children,” he said.

Last week’s news that quiche had been chosen as the signature dish for the King’s upcoming coronation was been met with mixed opinions: are broad beans a good fit for the pastry-based dish? And can anyone get hold of eggs these days?

Along with the broad beans, the recipe for “coronation quiche” includes spinach, cheese and tarragon – but this is far from the only way to fill a shortcrust pastry case. With this in mind, we want to hear all about your favourite quiches: what’s in them, why are they so great, and what memories does eating them conjure up for you.

Drunk Indian passenger urinates on co-passenger on New York-Delhi flight

    [ad_1]

New Delhi: An allegedly inebriated Indian passenger, travelling on a New York-Delhi American Airlines flight, reportedly relieved himself on another passenger on board the flight, sources said.

A senior police officer said that legal action has been taken for non-cognisable offences under the civil aircraft rules.

“We have initiated action after receiving a complaint from the airline staff about the unruly behaviour of one passenger. However, there is no coraborative evidence or complaint given by the co-passengers regarding someone peeing on them yet,” the officer said.

    MS Education Academy

According to sources, the accused passenger, who was reportedly under the influence of alcohol, got engaged in an argument with a co-passenger on board American Airlines flight AA 292 and urinated on him.

After the plane landed at the Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport at around 9 p.m. on Sunday, the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) apprehended the alleged ‘unruly’ passenger.

    More details are awaited.

On November 26 last year, an intoxicated man had reportedly urinated on a female co-passenger in her seventies while on a business class Air India flight from New York to Delhi. The incident had made national headlines.

Another incident occurred on December 6, 2022, in an Air India flight from Paris to New Delhi in which a male passenger allegedly relieved himself on a vacant seat and blanket belonging to a female passenger while she was using the lavatory.

Relief for Rahul Gandhi from Patna HC in ‘Modi surname’ case

Patna: The Patna High Court on Monday accorded some relief to Congress leader Rahul Gandhi in a criminal defamation case related to Modi surname.

The case was filed by BJP Rajya Sabha member Sushil Kumar Modi in MP-MLA court of Patna, alleging that Gandhi humiliated the community having Modi surname in the country. Gandhi, during a rally in Karnataka’s Kolar in 2019, had said that all those with the Modi surname are thieves.

During the hearing in the MP-MLA court on April 12, it had directed Gandhi to appear physically on April 25. His lawyers then went to Patna High Court to challenge the decision.

  • The Real Reason Trump Might Win the Nomination

The Real Reason Trump Might Win the Nomination

    [ad_1]

    election 2024 desantis 46843

For almost seven years, Donald Trump has dwelled on a plane so far beyond the political norms that it’s almost impossible to analyze him through the traditional frames of reference. But if we can put aside the sheer otherworldliness of his conduct — John Kelly, his former chief of staff, called him “the most flawed individual I have ever met” — there’s an aspect of Trump’s candidacy that would be eye-opening all by itself. Trump is the first ex-president in more than 130 years who is seeking a rematch against his victorious rival.

There are plenty of nations where combatants go up against each other again and again. In France, Emmanuel Macron and Marine LePen were electoral foes last year, five years after their first encounter, with similar results; such rematches are commonplace in parliamentary systems. But here?

The great populist William Jennings Bryan faced off against President William McKinley in 1896 and 1900 and lost both times; the next rematch was Dwight Eisenhower vs. Adlai Stevenson; Ike was victorious in 1952 and 1956. Not since Grover Cleveland took the White House back from Benjamin Harrison in 1892 has a defeated president sought to oust the president who ousted him. (When Theodore Roosevelt ran against William Howard Taft in 1912, that was an intraparty battle between former allies. In 1940, Herbert Hoover tried to mount a comeback against FDR that was met with less than enthusiastic support among Republicans and he didn’t win the nomination). The prospect of an ex-president actively campaigning for the White House is something no one alive today has ever seen.

What makes this even more unprecedented is the way Republicans regard the 45th president. In modern times before the 2020 election, every defeated incumbent but one (Gerald Ford) lost the White House decisively. Taft in 1912 finished third behind Woodrow Wilson and Teddy Roosevelt, winning a grand total of eight electoral votes. Hoover in 1932 won only six states, losing by 18 points in the popular vote. Jimmy Carter lost the electoral vote 489-89, winning only six states. With these results, defeated presidents would have faced a steep climb in trying to convince their party to give them another chance. They were, as Trump might put it, losers.

Trump’s standing with Republicans is very different. Sure, Trump lost the 2020 popular vote by seven million votes, but Republicans can look at the razor-thin margins in the (also decisive) Electoral College count; a shift of 44,000 votes in three states — Georgia, Wisconsin and Arizona — would have meant a 269-269 tie, throwing the election into the House of Representatives, where a majority of delegations would likely have given Trump the presidency.

That’s only part of the picture; by a nearly two-to-one margin, Republicans believe that the election was stolen — that Trump is in fact the rightful president. Even as his approval ratings sink below 30 percent among all voters, his favorability rating among Republicans remains at or near 80 percent.

In a sense, then, the Republican base sees Trump less as a candidate for president than as the real president, deprived of office by fraud. That’s despite the clear lack of evidence of fraud in the election, a fact that even many Fox commentators acknowledged privately despite what they told their viewers, as the Dominion lawsuit made clear.

Moreover, history shows that political parties simply do not jettison their presidents, even when their prospects for victory are slim. The last time the country’s chief executive was denied renomination was Chester Arthur in 1884 (Ronald Reagan came close to unseating Ford in 1976; Ford, like Arthur, was an unelected president). Given the Bizarro World quality of the Trump era, it almost seems normal for Republicans to be standing behind their “president,” who they regard as the candidate who really won last time out.

All that said, is it really necessary to note this does not qualify as a prediction for who will win the GOP nomination? It’s entirely possible that one or two or three indictments — about matters more serious than hush money to a porn star — might change Republican minds. Perhaps so would a widespread campaign among GOP officials that a Trump nomination would doom the party to November defeat (though this would require Trump’s foes actually having the fortitude to mention his name when they are making that case).

For now, however, many Republicans appear to see Donald Trump as not simply their voice or their champion, but their president as well.

  • Karnataka HC relief for Kannada actor Chetan, stays order on returning OCI card

Karnataka HC relief for Kannada actor Chetan, stays order on returning OCI card

    [ad_1]

Bengaluru: In a temporary relief to Kannada actor and anti-Hindutva activist Chetan Kumar Ahimsa, the Karnataka High Court on Monday stayed an earlier order of the Central government on the cancellation of his Overseas Citizenship of India (OCI) status.

Chetan Kumar had challenged the order in the court. The bench headed by Justice M. Nagaprasanna has ordered that neither the state nor the central government should initiate any action against Chetan till June 2, 2023. The bench had also asked Chetan not to tweet anything about the judiciary. He was also directed not to issue any statement regarding pending cases.

The bench asked Chetan to remove all the tweets and submit an affidavit within four days. This direction is part of the final order and if any of the conditions are violated, the interim stay order will be vacated, the court told Chetan Kumar.

    MS Education Academy

Senior counsel Aditya Sondhi who argued for Chetan submitted that the petitioner should have been given an opportunity to present himself before issuing the show cause notice. The Central government should establish how the tweets of Chetan amount to sedition? If the court does not grant a stay on this order, the petitioner faces the threat of being extradited from the country.

Once the OCI card is cancelled he will become an illegal immigrant. The petitioner’s interest should be protected by the court, the counsel stated.

Additional Advocate General Arun Shyam who appeared for the state government submitted in the court that the actor has the habit of tweeting against the judiciary also and hence he should not get interim protection.

The Union home ministry had cancelled the Overseas Citizenship of India status of Chetan Kumar and he was asked to surrender his OCI card within 15 days.

Condemning the move, the actor had stated that the notice has been issued to him as he can’t be defeated in his social oriented and rational work.

Chetan’s recent claim that the Tirupati temple had been built after demolishing a Buddha temple had stirred a controversy. In an interview he claimed that Hindu temples were never Vaidik institutions. He said that Hindu temples were built after destroying Buddhist temples.

Chetan in his social media post claimed that Hindutva is based on falsehood. He said the statement of BJP icon Veer Savarkar that the Hindu nation took shape when Lord Rama returned to Ayodhya after defeating Ravana is incorrect.

He also stated that the claim of Ramjanmabhoomi being at the site of the Babri Masjid is also a lie. In 2023, their (BJP) statement of Uri Gowda and Nanje Gowda killing then Mysuru ruler Tipu Sultan is also false.

Chetan underlined that Hindutva could be defeated by the truth. “Truth is equality,” his post stated.
