Five Journalists From Kashmir Resigned Allegedly After Getting Militant Threats

    [ad_1]

Five journalists who were employed by a local newspaper in Kashmir have quit after receiving online threats from militants, according to reports.

Recently, militants published a list of more than a dozen journalists who were reportedly employed by security services, IANS reported.

There were two local newspaper editors among the people on the list. Three of the five journalists who left their jobs on Tuesday posted their resignations on social media.

The Resistance Front (TRF), a militant organisation affiliated with Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT), is allegedly responsible for these threats, according to the authorities.

The threats’ contents show what militants and anti-national elements have in mind. By openly accusing them of being corrupt and issuing a clear threat, they have endangered people’s lives, particularly those of media professionals, according to the police.

According to the police, a FIR has been filed in this matter, and over a dozen suspects have been apprehended and are currently undergoing questioning.

As militants threatened to target everyone working for three media outlets in Srinagar, three reporters posted their resignations on their social media profiles to avoid any difficulties.

A young reporter who covered local news claims that he has been charged with spreading the army narrative. He decided to quit his job, reports NDTV.

Such threats, according to the BJP, are unacceptable, and no one should be permitted to threaten journalists.

“Terrorists have touched new lows, which is against people and against the fundamental right of freedom of speech and expression,” NDTV quoted RS Pathania, spokesperson of the BJP.

  • While Raising The Tricolour, A Kashmiri Youth Lost His Hand And Leg In Kishtwar

While Raising The Tricolour, A Kashmiri Youth Lost His Hand And Leg In Kishtwar

    [ad_1]

The “Har Ghar Tiranga” campaign was in full swing in August 2022, both nationally and especially in Jammu and Kashmir. The people actively participated in this initiative.

On one side, people were busy decorating their homes’ roofs with the tricolour flag on August 13.

According to The Chenab Times video report, Mohammad Anwar, a native of Jammu and Kashmir’s Kapran Shahabad Veerinag, is a young man who came to Kishtwar district for study because of his poor financial situation and was forced to accept employment at a man’s home in Kishtwar. But Anwar described the good nature of his master, in whose home he was living in Kishtwar, as they paid his medical expenses until now after this incident.

    The tragedy

The tragic incident with Anwar happened on August 13. When the landlord of Muhammad Anwar asked him to bring a pipe so that he can install the tricolour flag at the residence, Anwar held an iron pipe, and while standing the pipe, it came into contact with a power transmission line, due to which Anwar was electrocuted. The landlord of Anwar immediately took him to the District Hospital Kishtwar, from where he was referred to SKIMS Soura in Srinagar. In this tragic incident, Anwar lost his right hand and leg completely.

Unfortunately, as of November 15, there is no FIR regarding this incident, according to Anwar. When a Chenab Times correspondent asked him whether any police officials had met or visited him, he said that no one met him after this incident. On November 14, he went back to Kishtwar to lodge an FIR so that he could get compensation from the concerned authorities because he was now handicapped and could not earn for his family.

    Police response

When CT tried to contact Jammu and Kashmir Police officials in Kishtwar, no calls were received. An official saw our WhatsApp message but didn’t respond until the day this report is filed. We contacted Anwar’s lawyer; he said that they had moved to court regarding this, and the court has directed the police to lodge an FIR.

    The unanswered questions

The question is whether Anwar will get compensation for living his life or whether he will keep knocking on doors for help. For losing his hand and leg for the tricolour, whether the Jammu and Kashmir government give honour to him and help him or not. These questions will remain unanswered until some practical developments take place.

  • Twitter Suspends $8 Subscription Based Verification After Fake Accounts Created Mess

Twitter Suspends $8 Subscription Based Verification After Fake Accounts Created Mess

    [ad_1]

Elon Musk’s Twitter suspended the subscription-based blue tick verification badges on Friday, only days after introducing them as part of a slew of changes. The social media site planned to charge $8 to users who wanted the premium blue tick verification badge, but as soon as the service went live, several fake “verified” accounts appeared on Twitter, causing the platform to reconsider its decision.

Previously, blue tick verification was provided to notable figures in various fields such as entertainment, politics, journalism, and so on to avoid impersonation, but after Tesla co-founder Elon Musk took over the social media giant in a $44 billion takeover deal, the company decided to change the verification policy and decided to provide blue tick to anyone willing to pay $8 for the service.

Following the launch of the service, numerous fake accounts, including Elon Musk’s own Tesla and SpaceX, appeared with a blue tick. An impersonator account even claimed that ‘insulin is free,’ prompting pharmaceutical company Eli Lilly & Co. to issue an apology via Twitter.

There are currently two types of verified accounts on Twitter: one that was verified before to Musk’s takeover and states, “This account is verified because it is notable in government, news, entertainment, or another specified category.” The other verified account belongs to a person who paid $8 for Twitter Blue service.

The payment for the blue tick badge was necessary because analysts believe Musk overpaid for the $44 billion contract, which he is now realising. He has sold billions of dollars in shares from his other firm, Tesla, and has also raised funds from the markets. Several sponsors have paused their Twitter commercials as they learn about the new leadership’s policies, and the current mess of fake accounts has made them even more sceptical.

Elon Musk has recently cautioned Twitter employees to brace long hours as the firm approaches bankruptcy. The warning came as the US regulator announced the departure of the company’s trust and safety chief, as well as other top officials.

Musk cautioned in his first company-wide email that Twitter will not “survive the upcoming economic slump” if it does not increase subscription revenue to balance dwindling advertising revenue, according to three people who saw the message, reports Reuters.
