    Passenger bus gutted in a fire incident in Central Kashmir’s Budgam

    Budgam, Jan 16: A passenger bus belonging to Road Transport Corporation, erstwhile known as SRTC was completely damaged in a fire incident on Monday morning in Central Kashmir’s Budgam district.

    The incident occurred near Shunglipora bus station of the district at 7 in the morning.Divulging information about the incident, the driver of the bus (JK01Y-0848), Muhammad Younis told the news agency Kashmir News Trust that they had parked the bus at Shunglipora bus station and on Monday morning they arrived there when started the bus and kept it on starting mode for a couple of minutes, there was a short circuit and within a jiffy, the bus was in flames.

    He said the bus caught fire and was damaged quickly as it is made up of fiber.

    Locals helped to douse the fire. The fire tender from Magam reached when the fire was over,” he added.Police have taken cognizance of the incident and registered a case under relevant sections of law. [KNT]

    3 cops suspended after man dies in Rajouri village

    Three cops have been suspended in Rajouri district after mysterious death of a man in Dagal village of the district on Saturday evening even as locals alleged the man died due to carelessness of the cops.

    Senior superintendent of police Rajouri, Mohammad Aslam told news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) that three police personnel deployed at police Naka Bakhar have been suspended for carelessness and not taking the man to hospital.He said they have started investigation into the matter and inquest proceedings under CrPC 174 have been initiated.

    On Saturday evening, villagers of Dagal and nearby areas of Rajouri district held a protest demonstration the death of the man identified as Sher Singh (23) son of Chatar Singh.They said the deceased used to work in Sunderbani as a labourer and was returning for home to take part in Lohri festival but he went missing on the way.“On Friday we came to know that he was lying in inebriated condition at Siot after which team of police from Bakhar police post took him along but he died later,” they alleged.The protestors alleged that the man has died due to the carelessness of the cops and blocked the road, demanding a proper investigation into the matter.Later, additional deputy commissioner Kalakote, Krishan Lal and SDPO Nowshera Tusif Ahmed reached to the spot and assured protestors that the matter will be probed—(KNO)

    Rajouri, Jan 15: The security forces in Poonch district busted a militant hideout and recovered arms & ammunition including three AK rifles and 10 hand grenades on Sunday.

    Officials told the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) that a joint team of Army and Jammu and Kashmir police launched a Cordon and Search Operation in Bachian Wali village of Surankote in Poonch district during which a militant hideout was unearthed under some rocks.They said that arms and ammunition have been recovered from the hideout that include 3 AK rifles, 3 AK rifle magazines, 28 bullets, 10 hand grenades and one UBGL.Officials further said that the grenades have been taken into possession by forces and will be destroyed through a controlled explosion—(KNO)

    Ganderbal, Jan 15: The Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir has been awarded with eight prestigious medals of the Union Home Minister’s Medal for Excellence in Police Training for the year 2021-22 ahead of Republic day 2023.

    As per the details available with the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), Police Training School Manigam has bagged two medals and the officers who have been awarded the medals include Dysp Syed Ahmad Badhana for Administration and Inspector Adil Bashir Makhdoomi for Indoor Category.The objective of the institution of Union Home Minister’s Medal for Excellence in Police Training is to recognize the importance of Training and the Trainers in Police organizations and make training a respectable assignment and also to promote the quality of training and training institutions in the country

    An official while talking to KNO, said that out of 320, the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir has bagged 8 medals.

    The Union Home Minister’s Medal for Excellence in Police Training is established to recognize the significance of training and trainers within police organizations.”

    The goal of this prestigious award is to inspire police personnel to excel in the field of training and to make training a respected assignment. This award aims to increase the enthusiasm of trainers to improve the quality of training and training institutions in the country, he said.

    “The award comes with a certificate signed by the Union Home Minister, a one-time cash reward of Rs 25,000, and the names of the awardees are published in the Gazette of India and a register of such names is kept in the Ministry of Home Affairs and Bureau of Police Research and Development.”—(KNO)

    MED clears 99% roads from Snow under Priority-I, R&B 85% of roads, almost all WSSs running & all 11 kv feeders providing Power supply

    Srinagar, Jan 15: After recent Snowfall affected road connectivity and basic facilities in some areas of Kashmir Division, the advance measures put in place by the Administration helped to respond immediately to any emergency arising due to Snowfall and restore services at the earliest.

    The Divisional Commissioner’s Office in a report said that the Mechanical Engineering Department (MED) cleared 5423 Kms of roads under priority- 1 and 5423 Kms, 3045 Kms under priority II and III which constitutes 99.63 percent and 89 percent respectively.Similarly, the R&B department cleared 3760 Kms out of 4471, therefore restoring 85 percent of road length across Kashmir Division. Also, PMGSY completed Snow clearance on 518.1 Kms which constitutes 74 percent of roads under its jurisdiction to be cleared .While ULB completed 100 percent of the total 885 Kms road length in all its 40 Urban Local Bodies, Kashmir.

    Regarding the restoration of PHE Water Supply Schemes (WSSs), it was informed that a total of 86 schemes were affected by Snowfall out of which 68 schemes have been restored while the work on the rest of the schemes is going on and shall be restored soon.KPDCL reported the outage on 78, 11kv lines on January 13 of which 98 percent have been restored while the restoration processes of the remaining part continues.In view of inclement weather, SMC has announced that 80 permanent de-watering stations and 122 mobile pumps are fully functional to meet any eventuality. After the recent snowfall, SMC informed that 28 De-watering Mobile pumps were pressed in service in Srinagar city on 13th January besides it said that the Control room under the supervision of Joint Commissioner, Works has been already established.

    Regarding the availability of food grains in the valley to meet the requirement, FCS&CA today stated that against 70,000 MTS storage capacity, 59347 MTS of food grains is available in FCI godowns.The FCSCA has dumped 100% foodgrains in 796 Snow-bound centers in 9 districts. It informed that 272015 LPG cylinders sufficient for 23 days, 7089 KLs MS for 23 days, 6357 KLs HSD for 11 days and 1599 KLs SKO for 1 month are also available in Kashmir Division.While divulging the information regarding availability of medicine in Kashmir Division, the Health Department has briefed divisional administration that all necessary/emergency drugs are available across in all hospitals.While giving the status of health facilities in far off areas, it was stated that the Border Areas of Block Gurez and Tangdhar have been supplied with all adequate medicines, emergency drugs, Oxygen Cylinders. Besides, the arrangements for Power backup & heating have been made in advance, ambulances have been equipped with anti-skid chains and rosters have also been framed in all hospitals.(GNS)

    Srinagar, Jan 15: At least six people have died of suspected heart attacks in different areas of Kashmir valley, while doctors say around 200 cases of heart attack have been reported in this month so far Reports reaching Srinagar based news agency Kashmir Dot Com said that six people have died of suspected heart attacks in south and north Kashmir parts.They said that Fayaz Ahmad Sofi, son of Mohammad Shabana, a government teacher from Durpora Zainapora area of south Kashmir’s Shopian district, died by cardiac arrest on Sunday. A 12th class girl also died of suspected heart attack in Sugan area of Shopian district on Saturday.
